A lovely find. The sort of welcoming place that leaves you feeling happy on top of some excellent food. We really enjoyed eating at the Thai Cafe because of the great menu selections, the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the excellent service given us. The corn cake starter was delicious and the stir fry I ordered was incredible with the coconut rice. We are so glad our friends took us there.

Now I understand why most people like to eat Thai food at the restaurant which is runned by local family from the region, the food was delecious and yummy 😋. I was very happy with what I ordered. The Thai food in this place execedeed my expectation. The only thing is that the price was not updated on the Google and when we arrive they gave us a new menu with different prices. I’m a Thai living in the US and was craving spicy food after roadtripping around Scotland for over a week with my husband. We requested the dishes to be super spicy and oh did they deliver! The mushroom tom yum soup was spicy and herbaceous. They even gave us more chili on the side, but it was already perfect so we didn’t need it. It was the best restaurant tom yum soup I had in a while. The fried king prawn spring rolls were perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The yum talay was spicy and limey with super fresh seafood. The pla jian was another highlight of the meal: perfectly fried cod with a peppery sauce. Don’t be discouraged by the low reviews. Highly recommend!

Good authentic Thai food at a reasonable price. The only negative is that it's a small space that doubles as a busy takeaway.

Just know that when you order a curry and get asked “what kind of rice would you like?” that that rice will show up as an extra £4 on the bill

Our wonderful red-headed waitress guided us s through the menu. We had the sharing plate of starters. Delicious. We especially enjoyed the sweet chilli sauce which enhanced all the flavours. The mains were delicious and filling. For dessert I had the deep fried rice cream - something between baked alaska and fresh hot doughnut. Yummy. Highly recommended.

Got a take away on a Saturday evening. Just for a start, if you order post 17:30 expect a long wait, mine was 1:15mins. They get very busy. We ordered 6 dishes, the chicken dishes all had over cooked tough/chewy chicken, even the pork was more tender. The red curry was too watery, aside from these it was edible.

Place was busy. Shame about the kapow gai. I don't understand how a Thai person can't make one properly. I get it's tough to find holy basil but if you're using British sweet basil then add ground pepper. Don't add chopped peppers. Also mince the chicken more. Staff were nice.

Five stars for the price and the tastiness - extremely good value in Stornoway. Others on our tour tried other places, but were less satisfied for a higher cost. Extremely busy with takeaway orders from locals, so clearly a hidden gem. Great if staying at the hostel and looking for cheap and cheerful but delicious. A bit chaotic behind the till and not the most beautiful restaurant, but all servers were very respectful and friendly and I don’t care too much about the atmosphere so long as it’s clean and the food is good!

Les nems et le plat de riz ça allés . Mais le Pad Thaï il était vraiment trop sucrée les saveurs ce sont noyer dans ce goût sucré donc rebutant. Concernant le dessert la crêpe à la mangue aurait mérité d'avoir une mangue fraîche et non chaude . Je pense que c'est peut-être dû aux habitudes des locaux, je ne sais pas . Personnellement ayant l'habitude de manger des plats Thaïlandais ceci est une première.

Worst restaurant I have ever eaten at in my life. So bad that we had to stop orders for fear of getting sick. I think it's better to fast than eat there. If you are invited, decline.

Meal was tasty and well priced, staff were nice and bring your own booze beers went down well. All in all a nice restaurant experience and not what some other reviews suggested- these people clearly came expecting a fine dining experience which is not what this place is.

The two young waiters did not want to be there. When they had a chance they’d be on their phone. It was like sitting in a dining room with two grumpy teenagers. They only knew the menu from the dish number and had no clue what they were serving. Food was soaking. Bland. Microwaved and frozen fish. Incredibly weird experience.

The food was really delicious! Went here for dinner on the recommendation of a local and it certainly did not disappoint. You get a really good portion per person here and the staff was very nice. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes tasty food!

Can’t say we’ve been to many restaurants where staff eat a meal at the counter in full view of the paying customers who are waiting for their food. This was after we had some initial “how can we not help you today” service, and a group was turned away at 5pm because they were “busy” despite 8 of the 10 or so tables in the restaurant being empty. Oh, our mistake, 1 of the tables is now occupied by a different staff member eating their enormous meal loudly whilst watching videos on their phone (at least they’re eating at a table, not the counter). Whilst waiting for our food and then whilst eating, we listening to the Caucasian staff complain about other staff members and sound quite racist against the Thai staff working there, in between shoving mouthfuls of food into their mouths and slurping loudly on soft drinks. Sadly owner was away so we couldn’t give them feedback, however the staff member we spoke took feedback well and hopefully grows from it. That being said, food was tasty and staff members (when not openly finishing their mouthful and picking food out of their teeth in front of us) were averagely attentive. Maybe opt for takeaway if you’re tempted to eat here.

Sadly, despite this being a local recommendation, the whole experience was utterly disappointing. The food (pad thai) was average at best, but it was really the wait staff who let it down - two young people who seemed more interested in catching up with each other than serving customers. With it being only a small restaurant, we could really hear it all (including personal details). Food came out quickly, but everything else was very slow and seemed a hassle for them and there was no check-backs on the food, I could see other customers were growing increasingly frustrated as well.

Unfortunately cannot recommend, service unfriendly and chaotic. Nice lad trying his best but being patronised and left to flounder by his more experienced colleague. She did nothing to help, no eye contact, I waited an hour for a takeaway.

I mean, I wouldn't expect much more in Stornoway, but the food was pretty below par. Chicken skewers were welded to the skewer, main course wasn't much better... Since they don't sell alcohol, the tap water was acceptable.

Sticky menu, sticky table, sticky chair - the place needs a bit of a clean. Starters overcooked in oil well past its best. Heavy on the batter and light on the filling. Mains not eaten as bland, overcooked and congealed is how the Pad Thai was for us. No fresh flavours, just bland and heavy. Paid the bill and when asked if we had enjoyed the meal, we replied no - at that point they simply turned and walked away. Our plates were still on the table loaded with food.

We visited this restaurant on our recent trip to Stornoway...an absolute gem and one of the tastiest places for Thai food I have ever been to. Both our dishes were beautifully cooked, very fresh, and utterly delicious. The restaurant was also very homely and the service was excellent - very friendly and hospitable. If I'm ever in Stornoway again, I would definitely go there highly recommend it! It's also brilliant value for money :)

Trevlig personal, snabb service och rikliga portioner. Lokalen var lite sval, skulle behöver prydas med mer ”thaistuff”. PS. Thai Cafe serverar inte alkohol, men man får ta med egen.

We ordered a takeaway from here on 31/8/22. Superb Thai food and very authentic - the Green Curry was fragrant and had a lovely bite to it. Friendly and efficient front house staff. My takeaway of choice on the island and I'll be having more than the one takeaway from here when I return next year 😁👍

This small restaurant features take out and dining in--though the takeout business was very large. The food is excellent and freshly prepared. We were staying in the area and simply walked over for the take out. The prices are very good.

Perfect location. Near the harbour, shops, restaurants and impressive castle. Very welcoming, comfortable and clean apartment with everything one needs, in a lovely old building. Reasonably priced. I would definitely visit here again and would recommend it to others.

This place changed my life—I have only been to Stornoway once and blessed has it been to be graced by the culinary extravaganza and excellence that is Thai Cafe. Their steak was cooked with utter delicacy that rivals the sheer brilliance of their seafood. Comfy, welcoming to those shunned by the Main Street pubs (hint, skip those for this Shangri-La), and easy—this place will cajole you with classic hits of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac while ensuring your hunger from many hikes and drives is quelled and conquered. I will come again to Stornoway and that means again to Thai Cafe—until then, may further weary travellers treat this place with the majesty it is.

The food was excellent however the management and the staff were appalling in dealing with a young man who was either very drunk or high on drugs. His behaviour became more outrageous as the evening progressed and ended up with him throwing glasses which were then left on the floor to the entrance of the toilets. The staff said and did nothing as though this was completely acceptable. I asked a member of staff why they had not said anything, the reply was he was a friend of the owners family. Questioned about the glass on the floor the reply was have you been hurt. I requested to speak to the manager and was informed she was busy. I stated that we were not leaving until we had spoken to them. After 10 minutes she came to our table, shrugged her shoulders and said he didn’t come in very often!!! It was as if it was all perfectly acceptable. I regret not calling the police!
