Th Grove Pub in Wandsworth

We went on a Friday and were seated by a girl who was serving nearby tables. Drinks were delayed for 20 minutes. A second person brought us the drinks by when we were very hungry and desperate to order (8 pm). A third person took our order and left. Came back 3 times saying items were no longer available. We reordered and waited 40 minutes by when we got up and paid for our drinks. This third member of staff also left (end of their shift). To the shame of the staff they didn’t even think to give us free drinks as a na apology. We left hungry. The food was being brought in to our table the moment we were leaving the pub. Ridiculously overpriced, understaffed (?) and poor service. We live locally, have been going there for the past 4 years and seen it deteriorate. Never going back again for food there.

The Grove has long been my favourite local pub. I’m afraid to say that it’s not quite what it was. The recent refurbishment is not an improvement; it’s all a bit ‘Costa Coffee’ vibe now. They’ve also crammed in more tables and don’t seem to be able to cope with so many customers. The staff are lovely & cheerful but the service was chaotic. Sorry. Every time we go for Sunday Lunch something is off the menu or they run out before they’ve barely started. My food was OK but the chicken was ultra-dry. And I know it’s a first world problem but: if you haven’t got any custard to go with the crumble dessert then make some! And don’t offer an ice-cream alternative only to come back and say “we haven’t got that either”. It was a great pub under the previous manager but now it’s heading towards average. And that’s a shame.

Friendly bar staff and excellent service in lovely surroundings the food quality is high. A great place for a family get together.

Went there for a Sunday roast and a bottle of wine with a friend. Only to be told they had ran out of all roasts and didn’t have the wine we wanted. Ended up ordering a burger and a fish pie. The burger was dry and overcooked. As for the fish pie, you would expect this to come with mash, but it didn’t. Both dishes were disappointing Despite not being really busy, the food took a while to arrive. The newly refurbished layout is really nice but the food really needs to improve.

Lovely pub with great indoor and outdoor options. We had a table outside which was covered and had heaters. Staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a prefect evening which is lovely to see after hospitality has been hit so hard recently. We ended up staying for food which was great as well. Couldn’t recommend this pub more if you want a relaxed evening or just something a little more hidden away.

A pub with a wide array of beer choice, effective service, excellent food and friendly staff, can’t knock it at all. Solid 5*!

Un amigo y yo fuimos a la arboleda este fin de semana para el almuerzo del domingo y no nos decepcionó. Delicioso asado con todos los adornos, el personal era encantador, al igual que el lugar, nos sentamos en la terraza al sol. Lugar encantador cerca de Clapham Common para almorzar

Visité nuestro local para una fecha segura de COVID y no decepcionó (nuevamente). Esta vez Adz nos sirvió y fue excelente; gran broma y super profesional.Si alguien busca un pub adecuado (sin televisores ni fútbol, etc.) y música de punta, este es tu lugar.

Estuvimos allí un miércoles (la primera semana que el gobierno lanzó el plan de comer fuera para ayudar).Toda la experiencia fue un desastre. Llegamos antes de la hora en que reservamos una mesa. Tomamos unas cervezas, luego a las 7:30 nos sentamos en nuestra mesa.La comida principal llegó a las 8:57 pm. Fue un juego de espera.El pedido estaba desordenado, faltaban cosas, luego no había cubiertos ni servilletas para comer. Tuvimos que pedirlos para poder comer.Pedimos vino y otra vez. Tuvimos que pedirle a otra persona que lo hiciera. Y no tenían ni idea de que habíamos pedido el vino.Llegó el primer plato y como con toda la comida y los platos que pedimos, todos eran mediocres. (Ver fotos adjuntas). Mi plato principal se veía bien pero no tenía sabor. No tenían sabor. Totalmente sin sabor. Luego pedí un poco de sal y el pequeño molino en el que venía la sal estaba vacío. Luego pedí uno nuevo. Nunca llegó. Mi amigo fue a recoger y le dieron otro, y traté de salar mi comida y ¿adivinen qué? ? El segundo molino también estaba vacío. El tercer molino de sal tenía finalmente sal. Los filetes no estaban cocinados de la manera que pedimos.El inodoro estaba mal cuidado, había orines por todo el piso alrededor del urinario. Uno de mis amigos alertó al personal que dijo que estaría limpio. Pero salimos del local y todavía estaba sucio.Lo siento porque esta es una reseña negativa. Pero lo hemos abordado con el personal que ofreció un descuento en nuestra factura. Muy amable de su parte.Tenía muchas ganas de compartir aquí también, así que espero que se aborde nuestra mala experiencia y podamos volver y que otros clientes también se beneficien con esto.Es uno de nuestros locales y espero que sigan mejorando ya que el lugar tiene potencial.Las patatas fritas y las patatas fritas estaban perfectamente cocinadas. El vino también estuvo bueno.

The Grove has always been a great local pub, so it is good to see it open again after COVID-19 closure. Good meal, good vegetarian option chosen by one of our group, great service and good choice of wine and beer

Had a Sunday lunch here with my family, the roast was nice but nothing special considering the price. They use a huge Yorkshire pudding to make the plate look fuller. £5 for a very small side of cauliflower cheese. Sticky toffee pudding was very tasty and the decor is really nice and seemed very clean.

No merece 5 estrellas, no me dejó sin medias. Pero un asado lo suficientemente bueno, en un entorno encantador con un personal educado. Once a great local, sadly now a complete joke.We went in intending to have dinner only to find that there was only one person on duty who was busy talking to friends at the bar. When we asked for a meal which a card on the table said would be accompanied by ta glass of wine he disappeared to find out. After 15 minutes we left.

the Grove is a local favourite of mine, always a welcoming atmosphere and happy staff! the menu is suited to everyone and food is always top notch, I'm all for the veggie options! its a great little place to have dinner, or enjoy some drinks with friends, definitely recommend to any of those visiting or living in south london

Esta es nuestra 4ª Navidad en el Grove y definitivamente la mejor comida y servicio. Todos los que trabajaban fueron alegres y muy serviciales. El menú era variado, no solo la obligatoria Turquía. The pub is lovely spacious and good range of wines to have a drink with mates. But the food is unappetising , poor quality. Have eaten there a couple of times - sharing / starters very small and tasteless. This week had main course and none of us impressed at all- In fact worst Caesar salad I have had ...tasteless ! Pity - if the food was great it would be packed out as staff and ambience are fab.

The Grove is a lovely pub, with great food, a nice relaxed atmosphere and good staff. Will be going back again very soon.

Excellent day watching the Rugby, fantastic service and food. A great venue for Sunday lunches and sporting events. Not too busy.

I visit this pub often and occasionally eat there particularly on Sunday. The relatively new chef Aaron has certainly made a great impact.Today I chose what proved to be melt-in-the-mouth roast lamb served with beautiful veg. My two fellow diners equally enjoyed their roast beef and a roasted vegetable dish. As always, the service was friendly and efficient.

Avoid the signature 'Grove burger' , very small with tiny pot of vertical 'macdonald' French fries, wildly overpriced and mine came burnt and blackened! Better off to go to macdonald or Burger King and get guaranteed unburnt at a fraction of the price.

I was passing through Balham earlier on the way home and originally intended to go to The Cyclist, however it was rammed so I chose this as a back-up option.

Situated just off the Main Street and slightly hidden. Large pub with welcoming bar and large eating area off the bar. Extensive selection of craft beers. Good choices on menu and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and welcoming and very helpful. Food was high quality and good sized portions. Their Fish and Chips defeated me such was the size of the portion. Good clean surroundings. Give it a visit, you won’t be disappointed

Just discovered this little gem. Been twice in the past week and both times it’s been lovely. Have experienced a number of staff and all have been so friendly & welcoming; and this seems obvious with even all the locals in the bar area chatty.

Nos encanta este pub. Muy por delante de los lugares más obvios, como The Avalon (que se ha convertido en un ruidoso "infierno vertical", el infierno). La comida muy ordinaria y el asado del domingo sorprendentemente malo. Tan recocido que no era comestible, dos veces, y en la tercera vez resultó no ser un asado, sino un bistec que podría haberse hecho raro desde el principio. Patatas poco cocidas y verduras y puré sin sabor. El personal se disculpó porque los cocineros eran nuevos y amablemente redujeron mi factura. El lugar en sí es luminoso y cómodo, con obras de arte extravagantes en las paredes. Comida de pub sí, calidad gastropub no.

Visité este pub con un compañero para una tarde tranquila y me pareció un pub muy cálido y agradable. El personal era realmente agradable y el pub tenía un gran ambiente también. Había asientos en el frente para ver pasar el mundo también. Agradable fuera del pub de pista batida.

Arrived on way to the Apollo to enjoy two rounds of cocktails for four. Food menu very good and extensive wine list. Started with olives, yummy and then into mains. Salmon, truffle pasta and beef bourguignon all very good. Desserts not much choice. Good prices for London.

This was meant to be a pleasant Sunday afternoon lunch with friends. We were a party of 5, and on arrival I found this pub to be attractive and inviting. The decor is smart and the restaurant is decorated in muted colours and very light due to the very large skylight. The Front of House staff were a delight and the service could not be faulted. However, I regret to say that I cannot say the same for the food. I ordered the Roast Beef and asked if it was possible for it to be rare rather than overcooked. When the plate arrived I was faced with a slab of beef about an inch thick which had hardly seen an oven as it was blue rather than rare. The plate was cold, the gravy and vegetables lukewarm and the Yorkshire pudding was massive and tough as old boots. I also had to ask for the horseradish sauce. I followed this with the cheeseboard which was ok but overpriced. Everyone around the table was rather disappointed with their meals. The only consolation was that after complaining, the restaurant did take off the cost of the desserts. Regrettably I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Came across this Pub while driving in the area and stopped in for a drink and desserts🥂🍹...lovely pub with a great atmosphere and drinks and desserts was so good...will be heading back for food on the menu soon ❤️❤️😋😋🙌🏻🙌🏻

Had an impromptu lunch here today. The pub is really well presented with a good range of seating areas, friendly staff and good food. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

This pub is well hidden and I like that! The staff are really friendly and provide table service. Pub quiz on a Sunday is a must!

A lovely venue. The staff were superbly friendly. Even a burthday card for my sister-in-law. A had a lovely bottle of presecco to start. Half the table had roasts, half the table had other things. The roasts were ok but had odd choices of veg. Red cabbage should not be on a roast. No one ate it. And why does every plate of food need sweet potato. The rest of the food was good.

To put it simply, the staff, food and atmosphere were lovely. The food was reasonably price and the wine selection was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely visiting again.

El personal fue muy útil de antemano, me ayudó a planificar y organizar, con excelentes ideas sobre cómo hacer un mejor uso de su espacio. Entonces, ¿qué tipo de sistema tiene este lugar que puede olvidar para procesar un pedido? ? ? ! ! ! ! ¿Y por qué la comida llegó tan rápido después de que fue señalada? Nos dijeron que la comida se cocinaba en el local en lugar de los atuendos 'sling and ping' que prevalecen, pero ahora tengo mis dudas. Visited the grove for dinner and had the gilled lambchops, i must say it was very delicious and well prepared. Along with Great ambient and lovely staff.

The food was, at best, average and our Sunday lunch was spoiled by a boorish group of six millennials guffawing and bellowing at the tops of their voices. We eventually had to move from the restaurant to the bar to escape the racket. Service, however, was excellent - the wait-staff were charming and helpful. We used to be regular customers at the Grove, but we won't be returning.

Visité este pub a mediados de junio cuando esté en Londres, ya que me fue recomendado. El personal era muy amable y profesional, y me pareció que el director muy acogedor, teniendo un interés en nuestra razón para visitar. El servicio era excelente, tenía una larga conversación con el nuevo gerente que claramente tiene algunas grandes ideas para el espacio. Really lovely meal. Fantastic service! The staff (Jo and Hannah) were really friendly and chatty. Would highly recommend!

Tuve una brillante Expresso Martini, hechas por le en el Grove. Es un pub encantador, estupendo para perros, niños y comidas de bar.

Reservamos y pagamos entradas para lo que solía ser la noche de degustación de vino aquí, para llegar y encontrar que había sido cancelada debido a un cambio en la gestión. Es comprensible que, debido a los cambios en la gestión, la eliminación del evento había olvidado pero nos quedamos muy decepcionados de que estábamos sólo informó de ello a través de correo electrónico 15 minutos antes del evento de empezar y, después de haber viajado 30 minutos en llegar y me dijeron de esto, nos ofrecieron nada de compensación por el error, así que compramos una bebida (muy caro) y a la izquierda. Nos quedamos muy decepcionados con la manera en que fue manipulado y no regresaré.

Massively underwhelming and fell considerably below our past visits. It started with the welcome to our table by the hostess / waitress involved - lack of warmth / friendliness. We ordered drinks at the bar - no issue - but then we carried our 5 drinks to the table from the bar on a tray - no real problem but as it was not overly busy at the time, an offer to assist would have at least been appreciated.

Went with 4 members of family. Got a table after people left, ordered food and advised 30 minute wait. Pub was busy. After 40 minutes another group of people came over to table and said they had reserved this table but ate at another and now wanted table back. Staff merely shrugged and it took 20 minutes for the cost of the meal which we never saw to be returned. 1.5 hours later left pub no food rude customers and indifferent staff. Will never return but is my daughters local so feel sorry for them. They are clearly not able to cope with a busy environment

My partner and me went to this restaurant/pub on Saturday night. Inside it is nice and cosy with a fire. It was nice to sit with a drink but that's as good as it gets. We ordered the soup of the day (parsnip and apple) and Fish and Chips. The Fish and Chips were £14 and were awful, the chips were lukewarm, the fish tasted out of date and was soggy.

I tried to book for 2pm and was told I had to book for 1.45. However, we sat at our table for 25 minutes before anyone served us. We eventually ordered drinks after flagging someone down, they forgot my drink. We then got our food which did come out at similar times at least, except for the two dishes that they forgot. They forgot gravy on one of the roasts. There were no sharp knives given for the beef or for the crackling, despite these being given to other tables.

A cozy pub just off the Main Street in Balham. We had a large group of 30+ people coming if for food. The staff were amazing at accommodating us. I agree that there is a limited vegetarian selection and I was very thankful that the chef accommodated in making vegetarian burgers - would recommend keeping these on for sure!

On the plus side, the pub is lovely and cosy, however the service from a couple of team members was not great. My husband waited 15 minutes for his drink, main courses were served without cutlery and my main was so salty (fish and chips) that I had to send it back. The pub has a quiz (which we were not aware of) on Sunday night that starts at 8pm, but they started testing the speakers system (very loudly!) about 7.30pm (whilst we were still having dinner with my elderly mum). The quiz master swore a few times when 'warming' the quiz crowd up, which was not appropriate. I'm not sure if we would go again.

I'm not a big fan of writing reviews i do it only if i do enjoy the place i'm visiting or if i had bad experience with it , so that's why i decided to write this review after i been invited for Sunday roast with group of friends i had the roast beef which is the main reason i deiced to write this review its really amazing i don't know but there is something different than any roast beef i had ever taste, my friends ordered the chicken and the veg Wellington they did really enjoined it and the cauliflower cheese delicious ,so definitely this place is gonna be my weekly Sunday roast from now on and i will be happy to recommend it for my colleagues as well

Fuimos para bebidas y aperitivos como parte de un padres reunirse desde nuestro vivero. pequeños A pesar de estar en la zona o por ahí por unos treinta años la primera vez que había estado aquí y, de hecho, ni siquiera saben de su existencia. Está un poco apartado del camino y no en un lugar que te pase por si en las principales partes de Balham. Lo que veo en otros comentarios que la comida a veces no acertamos la marca (en aquellos opinión críticas), sin embargo la luz picaduras - scotch huevos, mini hamburguesas, perritos calientes mini y mini flanes que teníamos eran geniales y sólo lamento que no se mofan de más! Buena selección de cervezas y largers aunque admito que no soy el mayor fan de jóvenes. Es bastante grande por dentro con muchos asientos y adornada de una manera tradicional en vez de llamativos modernos. Teníamos una sección aparte para nuestra visita, pero en una noche de jueves, no estaba demasiado concurrido. Sin duda, uno de los pubs más bonitos en Balham y uno al que volveremos. Puede incluso probar el almuerzo allí un fin de semana yo tendré informara sobre que uno!

The latest conversion is awful, small tables, low chairs . Also the food menu is far too limited with only one vegetarian dish. The hamburgers are overcooked.

Volvimos a la salida de la reforma y tenía un asado los domingos, carne fue excelente, todo estaba bien preparado en el plato. Gran ambiente y ahora tienen una mesa para los niños (lo cual es genial ya que no se ejecutan). Volveré con mi familia a utilizar este.

Booked a table of 6 for a Sunday roast but the vegetarian option came with goose fat potatoes and no other option, the waiter also couldn't tell me if the gravey was vegetarian. There was only one other option for me on the Sunday menu which was a dry cauliflower bulgar wheat dish & not very exciting. Everyone else enjoyed their roast thoroughly and the service was great. Such a shame they're not catering at all well at for the vegetarians.

Popped in here after hearing of the refurbishment. Pub is looking gorge and with a very rich feeling to the walls. The Sunday belly pork was super, washed down with a Pinot Noir of course... Great local

Admittedly we went after 1400 but the beef was like leather and for £16 not worth it on the other hand my Wife's belly pork was excellent. Just avoid the roast!

I have been her 3 times in the last couple of months I think they must rotate the staff/chef as the food & service is inconsistent to the point where I've had a fabulous burger & on another occasion a meal that was inedible. The staff vary greatly also,some were really good others miserable lacking in training & clearly wanted to be elsewhere, we were made to feel like an inconvenience just being there!In the current market & economic climate standards need to be consistent, menus imaginative & staff well trained & courteous non of this applies to the Grove sadly & it has great potential

We've always had great beer (real ale) here with Youngs flowing freely - always has locals in with dogs and kids. Friendy pub and they also have some good extra events on too throughout the year.

Used to love this for Sunday Lunch, haven't been for a long while but remember it was always packed out and the roasts were outstanding. Sadly this time virtually empty and the roasts were terrible. The pork was like thick cut over cooked bacon and there was no crackling, the vegetables consisted of a few bits of cabbage, soggy baby parsnips and two roast potatoes which were definitely not cooked in a quality goose fat (if it was goose fat at all). Roast beef was dry, lamb shank was good but veg/potatoes same on all and for some bizarre reason everything was swamped in the same Bisto gravy. So disappointed and the manager gave no concession or apology for the terrible pork dish which went back and was eventually replaced by chicken (which had to be eaten after everyone else had finished). Sadly will not return as there are much much finer food options out there

Sunday lunch with a friend. Chose the pork this time and as always, the food was excellent. Great atmosphere and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. A shame that they don't do apple sauce!

You are not prepared for what you get when you walk into this establishment. It is really amazing and not what you would expect in a pub up a side street. I was really impressed with the decor and the quality of the decor. There is a good selection of beers and wines. You on my next visit I will return here.

Had roast dinner here. Surrounded dings very pleasant and great pub quiz but the food let it down. Roast beef was tough and grizzly with bisto gravy but the worst was the desert- rhubarb trifle. Not quite sure what was in it .It was sloppy and had a very strange taste. Should have complained at the time as it cost £6.50.

On arrival all looked really positive, watching other people's food arrive looking great but when ours arrived some of the vegetables were exceptionally al dente.....even to the point that part of the roast potato may as well have been taken straight from the soil it was so hard.Other tables around us at the same time began to complain about the food.It was such a shame as the roasts looked so good.

Reading newer reviews we were encouraged to learn this pub had improved, we went for sunday lunch based on the nost recent reviews. Sad to say it was nediocre at best. The lamb shank was ok, pork belly tough and a smattering of veg was stingy. An extra side of cauliflower cheese was missing the cheese. Staff were friendly enough but had no enthusiasm and didn't seem to care. No one asked how the food was at any point. In summation, over priced and underwhelming. Unlikely we'll go again.

Best Sunday lunch I've had for a long time. Lovely pub - bit special. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic gastropub in the heart of Balham/Clapham South, finely decorated in a light shabby-chic style with a lovely light-well in the back section of the restaurant. Food was excellent, the Sunday roast was perfectly cooked to our request (well done) and the wine list is also excellent. Very good crowd around, we had a great time, excellent food and very attentive service. Highly recommended for families. We'll become regulars.

Great pub inside, almost like a country pub. We tried fish and chips and was amazing..... good atmosphere. A gem!

This must have been one of the worst experiences of bad service that I have encountered in my 60 years of globetrotting the world. When we arrived there was a free table, but it was not cleared from the previous customers. So, we waited and waited , the waitress passed by a couple of times and although she was taking orders she could have said - I will be with you shortly. Finally my son cleared the table and we sat. As the table was apparently reserved we were moved. We had drinks , all self service and then orders were taken. They did say it will take around 45 minutes for the food to be delivered. That was fine, we had some more drinks and some crisps, and after 45 minutes my starter arrived, my son's main meal arrived , but my daughter's meal was not there. They told her they had run out of sirloin steak. Why did they waited all this time to tell her the steak had run out, if they told her from the beginning she would have had the chance to chose something else. Not even a glass of wine to apologise , nothing. That same waitress with her moody face collected our plates and when I told her thank you, she did even acknowledge it. We were amazed that she could have a job in a pub, were you need to have a smile.and some sort of good mannners towards the paying customer. I wonder were the manager was? The food was mediocre, and I am being kind. Never again. The only nice thing , it is dog and children friendly and that was nice.

This is the perfect place to while away a Sunday afternoon. Sunday lunch with red wine and good companions is a real treat. Food excellent and staff lovely.

We spent our Sunday having a roast lunch at The Grove and were bowled over by the pubs decor and friendly welcoming staff. They tended to our every request perfectly. The roasts were plentiful although slightly disappointing. There was far too much meat on the plate, the celeriac cubes (or whatever they were) were hard and unpleasant. The Yorkshire although large wasn't very tasty. Will visit again for a drink but perhaps not for a roast.

The interior of this pub is really worth experiencing, everything is laid out beautifully. Staff here are very friendly and the pub itself is immaculately clean. The food looked great, although we were just here for drinks, the last time I looked they were only serving roast dinner on a Sunday which is really annoying for people that don't like roasts (AKA me) however that may have changed.Prices are pretty high in this pub but are average for Balham.Well worth a visit.

Have eaten here on numerous occasisons. The food has always been excellent, and the staff friendly. The atmosphere is a real plus of this place - it's off the main road so it's a bit more relaxed. Would highly recommend if you're looking for good food and a chilled atmosphere.

A Sunday lunch menu at this Balham gastrotisserie lists beef striploin, pork belly or chicken. Other options include fish 'n chips, braised lamb shank, or a beef burger (think The Best of...Pub Food). The prices for a main are £10-17. There's a pub end with a proper bar, and an end at which there are dinner tables and servers, a wine list, and a bunch of noisy twenty-somethings sitting communally around a trendily cramped counter, above which are advertised a number of gin tasting nights. There's a kid's birthday party at another table. So it's a pub for all the constituents of well-to-do Balham life. And it holds it all together well.The roasts are good, and the pork deserves special mention for its succulence; while the braised lamb merits a diversion from the roast specialities. The gravy is the uniform in which all the roasts are dressed, and it is one to write home about: perfectly thick, dark, and glossy. Refreshingly, they give you not just a thimbleful but a big ladleful. The desserts are a bit pricey and, to my mind, would do better for being less fancy. They tend to adhere to this trend in which desserts have to come in threes on a rectangular plate.Just brownie and ice cream in a bowl is fine, thanks.Small quibbles aside, the service was fine and the interior is lively but not cramped. It may not be a cheap roast, but if you knew where to get a good, cheap roast in London, you wouldn't be reading this review.

A group of us went to the Grove on Sunday as we were in the area. This pub has changed over the years, and this one is for the better. The staff are lovely and friendly and able to talk about the menu and drinks. All very happy staff. It was a very, very, busy Sunday, and best to book in advance. The roast dinners are great, and the veggie options are really tasty. Well worth a visit any day of the week.

Five family members visited The Grove for the first time. We were greeted with a smile by the young waitress and she fully explained the menu to us. A beer was ordered by one of our family and she went to great detail to explain the various beers on sale and even produced two chosen samples. The food was delicious I fully recommend the Chicken and Leek pie so tasty and succulent. a dish of cabbage and creamed potatoes was served with the meal and it was the best cooked cabbage I have ever eaten in a Restaurant. I will certainly visit The Grove again..

Ideal for a family Sunday lunch, The Grove is an interesting Victorian building with a choice of eating areas inside.The menu is concise and features favourites with a twist but does not forget very traditional puddings.

The service was so unhelpful and not polite.....apparently the waitress didn't know what a smile was. The menu has changed unfortunately not for the better - as they have gotten rid of their lite lunch menu now as well so not ideal for a snack, half the food wasn't available, very large portions for lunch and the food was delayed by 25mins. There is not a good varied of vegetarian options and expensive for what is on offer. Definately gone down hill!

This is the perfect place to end the week with friends. Have a drink and dinner after a five days of work and start the weekend with a smile. Staff are really friendly and the food is great. Caters for all styles - work, friends and family. Kids (fortunately they go home early) and dog (which I prefer anyway) friendly - in fact they are just amazingly friendly. If I were sensible I woudn't tell you about it anyway. On the negative side, I do think the wine prices are a bit steep.

I was recommended to go to The Grove while I was staying in Clapham on a training course by a member of the course who was local to the area. After a long day of training a few of us stopped in for a drink and a couple of us had dinner. The pub is lovely, beautifully furnished, warm and welcoming. Staff who served us were friendly and polite. Our food came quickly and was delicious (I had the garlic and lemon crusted cod) which was reasonably priced. Very pleased we visited and would definitely return and recommend to others!

This was booked by our son-in-law for us and we were equally impressed. The meals were great as was the wine. The Sticky Toffee Pudding to die for and some of the nicest coffee in London.

My cousins and I came down for Sunday lunch as I have recently moved into the area. We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with great Sunday Roasts (well presented, good portion size, and good value) and fantastic service. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt truly welcomed. We will be back!

Went here for a date before Christmas, as had heard good things about it.It's a great looking Victorian Pub, in a quiet residential area on the borders of Clapham and Balham. Inside it's very cozy and has some wonderful Victorian fixtures and fittings - plenty of atmosphere ensues.They have some truly excellent Ales on tap and bar staff who are very happy to let you try generous sized tasters of each! Friendly staff too. It's a perfect first date Pub.I would be very happy to have this place as my local Pub and thus thoroughly recommend it.

The pub is really pretty inside and there is a large amount of drinks to choose from. The food was really good and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was brilliant - we will definitely be going here again

I love this pub as a local - because of its location it always has a good mix of locals and is never over-crowded. The layout and decor is comfortable. A great selection of beers and for major sporting events it has multiple TVs and a big screen.....all good. So why the average rating?The one thing missing from The Grove, and this seems to be a common feature among other reviewers (so please do something about it management), is the below par food. It would probably get away with it if it were a bog standard pub (the kind you find everywhere in Soho and The City) however because it does so well at setting gastro pub expectations - the leather armchairs, the quaint booths, the dining area etc - you can't help but feel a little deflated when the only option you're really left with is the burger (which to be fair is pretty good).It may be the price to pay for a decent local that doesn't get over crowded and you don't have to book a week in advance to get a table, however getting a few things right would be better than a lot of things wrong.

We arranged to meet friends here to have some lunch & watch the rugby. Most of us had the burger which was very good, as was the risotto. We had asked for a table close to the TV screen & we were very happy with the table we were given. The staff were on the whole very helpful & friendly. Later in the afternoon we ordered some snacks of the chorizo & red pepper skewer, sweet potato chips & sausage roll all of which were very tasty. I would definitely go back.

Really nice venue, layout and very friendly staff. unfortunately very limited choices on the menu and what we did order was not good. the butterflied chicken felt like it had been sliced into 2 horizontally to save kitchen costs. was tough and tiny, i could cook better at home. Better choices in the Balham area.

We visited for dinner before their weekly quiz on a Sunday. The portions here are incredibly generous, I struggled to finish mine! The food was all good, the pub was busy and there was a nice atmosphere.
