The man behind the bar is shockingly bad Large glass of wine with ice? No thank you. Terrible staff who don't know the meaning of service

Great time, despite of the damp weather. Outdoor seating overlooking the Thames covered by large brolly. Recommend the Zinfandel, luscious red wine.

Held our pre-wedding gettogether at the Boathouse upstairs and on the terrace. It was the perfect venue with fabulous service. Particular thanks to Max for managing the whole night for us is such a professional and capable way.

I couldn’t help but feel disappointed after my visit to the boathouse last weekend. The bar was very busy and there only seemed to be two workers behind the bar who were very slow and seemingly incompetent. The first drink they poured me was not what I ordered so I had to wait for a new drink after already waiting ages to be served. I almost felt sorry for the bartenders clearly with little experience. Following this, we decided to move onto a different pub and I can confidently say I will not be returning to the boathouse. Such a shame.

Brilliant service from Simon, Max, and Tom. The music was great and the volume perfect. Staff were really responsive and the place was spotless. The Boathouse gave me back the will to live.

We had a relaxed family meal outdoors early evening. There was a good selection of pub food and the staff were helpful and friendly. We ordered food at the bar & service was prompt. Would happily visit again.

My husband and I recently had a summer party for 85 at The Boathouse in Putney. The venue was fabulous, overlooking the river, particularly the balcony, which was a real hit with our friends. Working with Rebecca to plan our event was a pleasure and the team on the night were fantastic. If you are looking to host a stress free event, in a great location with good food (we had a selection of canapés) a good selection of beer and wine and great service, I would highly recommend it. Thank you for everything.

I booked a table for dinner on Saturday 10th August at 7pm. It was already really busy which was not a problem but was incredibly noisy with loud music. Asked if we could move, but staff said a party upstairs meant it wasn't possible. We couldn't hear ourselves speak, and found a table outside, but loads of these tables were empty but had not been cleared, obviously for quite some time. We sat outside for a short while but couldn't attract the attention of any staff, no sign of them anywhere. Massive queue at the bar, barely moving, and hardly any staff. Eventually lost the will to live and walked away. The menu looked good, but I would have had the mussels, however I saw someone order it, and it was served up on a plate, not in a pot so would have gone cold really quickly. Shame, maybe we were unlucky to go on such a busy night, but the staff really appeared to not care. Disappointing.

Booked an outside table for dinner with friends. Being a lovely sunny evening, the Boathouse was very busy as it's perfectly located right next to the Thames and obviously the place to be in Putney on a summers evening - but our table was clearly labelled as reserved showing the actual booked time (unlike some venues) which meant our table was empty and waiting for us when we arrived. Great, friendly and efficient service throughout the whole evening and the food was fantastic (calamari starter, steak main). Venue had a lovely relaxed vibe. Fantastic experience. Will definitely return.

Had to wait over 50 minutes for food to come to our table. Food was tasty but service subpar. Not worth the wait.

I met a friend for lunch and the experience was very enjoyable. The meet and greet was done well and the menu was given quickly as was the taking of the order. The quality of food presented was good and both of us completed our meals and commented on the quality. Service staff engaged us in conversation .

Came in for a few nibbles and cocktails with the ladies and got the best service ever! Employees were so so lovely and made the most amazing cocktails! Elena and Max were fabulous bartenders, tendering all our needs! Will definitely come again!

I’ve visited The Boathouse on several occasions, and felt the need to stress how great the place is. Service is always first class, with staff all too happy to go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. I’ve eaten a couple of times too, and certainly cannot fault the chefs here! Special shoutout to Simon who has worked there for ages and we love him to pieces!! However all staff are exceptional. Also, the music here is also awesome and also helps the terrific atmosphere of the pub. Many thanks to Team Boathouse x

The Boathouse was the perfect venue for our 50th birthday celebration. From the start, Rebecca, the manager, was phenomenal and a real pleasure to deal with. She made the entire process incredibly easy and stress-free, providing invaluable assistance on the night to help us and to make us feel at ease. The bar staff were exceptional, working tirelessly to meet the demands of our very thirsty guests with efficiency and big smiles! The backdrop of the river added a beautiful touch to the evening, enhancing the overall ambiance. Our guests couldn't stop praising the venue, and we couldn't agree more. The Boathouse exceeded all our expectations, and we cannot recommend it enough. Thank you for making our celebration unforgettable!

Came here last weekend for drinks and food. Service wasn’t good at all and very understaffed. Seemed poorly organised. All the staff seemed unfriendly. Food was good but bad experience ruined it.

No hospitality at all. Wasn't overly impressed with the food, lack of care from the staff to serve us. Guess I'll seat myself get my own menu and whilst I'm at it might as well go behind the bar and get my own drink no effort by the staff to cater to us. Even when ordering at the bar the server was so inept couldn't even seem to understand us when we were selecting off the menu colleague had to assist him. Ordered glass of wine and he didn't even have a clue what he was doing filled the wine glass with ice. Food was quick probably because we were the only ones ordering but even after food was bought they never asked if we needed anything condiments, drinks etc.. you don't even lay the table in advance or provide basic salt and pepper. The roast dinner came as a boned chicken leg no thanks and the carrot was just roasted and not even cut just left whole. Roast potatoes didn't taste right and I'm not sure why you're serving courgettes with a Sunday roast and gravy was way to thin and not proper gravy. Suppose it's a good job we payed before the meal came out because not sure the staff would have even noticed if we had just walked out. Best roast in Putney yeah right.

Being my local I go regularly - under new management it is still as good. Unfortunately though the roast wasn’t as good as usual yesterday but Simon the manager on duty compensated us exceptionally and the squid I had instead was tasty. Keep going good Boathouse…..

Lovely pub sits right next to River Thames! They have got an amazing selection of beers on tap, Asahi, Estrella Damm, Moretti and Beavertown. Love the food as well, I would definitely go back for fish and chips with mushy peas and some Scotch eggs!!!!

Had a really nice dinner here on Friday night, ,good atmosphere and lots of space so it didn't feel too busy. Had a really nice burrata as a starter. had the schnitzel for a main, and it was cooked to perfection, although I feel like it could do with a gravy/sauce. All in all very nice and would recommend.

Nice pub/bar with good outside space near the river. Probably gets very crowded on a nice evening, but we were there on a mid afternoon late springtime and it wasn't too crowded.

Absolutely excellent spot. Booked the upstairs for a private event and it was perfect….given the weather was sometimes rainy and sometimes sunny so the mix of indoor and a balcony was perfect, particularly for little people that wants to plod about freely. Thank you

Poor service very slow. Table booked for 1pm didn't get drinks till nearly 2pm. Told we had to be off the table by 3pm for another booking and food didn't turn up till 2.15pm. Food was mediocre had a roast all meats were superb but roast potatoes and veg was cold and under cooked

we booked the first floor of the boathouse for a party for 50 people, drinks, and a sit down dinner. The occasion was wonderfully catered for; very very well organised by Rebecca and her team, the room beautifully decorated and we even had weather good enough to use the balcony! It was a major success on all levels and most heartfelt thanks to the Boathouse team and Rebecca especially. And even things we hadn’t anticipated were taken care of, cannot ask for more than that.

Awful experience yesterday! Food took 90 minutes to arrive. Pre paid at the bar, after 1hr got free drinks and told 5 mins, only to wait a further 25 to 30 minutes. Staff kept on apologising and saying it was due to a function being held but if they are going to stay open for these "functions" they should clearly have enough staff to cope. Downstairs was empty where we were sitting. Food arrived and was awful, waste of money and a horrible experience all round

We had our wedding reception at The Boathouse and it couldn't have been a better day. It was really easy to arrange everything and the team were super flexible sorting us out with all the tables, food and drink etc we needed, we can't thank them all enough for making it such a great time. There was more than enough space with tables, a band, dancefloor and the outdoor balcony. The food was excellent and people were raving about the scotch eggs and sausages rolls. Everyone had the best time and I'd highly recommend The Boathouse for any events.

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff but it was beautiful weather on Sunday and clearly the staff couldn’t cope. We waited so long for everything we ordered - drinks, starters and mains. Furthermore, our scotch egg starter was super oily to the point it was inedible, and our roast beef was very tough and stringy, and the potatoes not crispy and too hard. So yes not the quality you’d expect from a gastropub in Putney. Shame cos the location and staff were lovely, it was just let down by slow frustrating service and some poor food. This is clearly something management have to improve on as it’s mentioned in various other reviews here too. You’ve really got to up your game in London, so much choice out there and word gets round quick. Hope they turn things around.

I hosted my wedding with The Boathouse, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I'm very laidback, and of course I was aware that I'd booked a pub for my wedding meal so set my expectations accordingly - but Rebecca and her team went above and beyond to lay my tables as I wished, staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble - it felt really magical Thank you so much!

We have just visited the Boathouse for an overnight stay we were very pleased with our rooms staff were very friendly and helpful our breakfast was lovely we also had a evening meal which unfortunately wasn't that good menu choice wasn't that great had a starter main and dessert but thought it was expensive for what we both had would definitely stay again at the Boathouse but would probably eat somewhere else in the evening if the food didn't improve don't like to complain but things need to improve i am not the only one to have mentioned this in a review

We recently hosted our Wedding reception at The boathouse in Putney. We were super laid back knowing we had booked “just a pub”, but new manager Rebecca and her team pulled out all the stops. Rebecca’s sourced some stands to display our table plan which we didn’t have ourselves, and our requests and wish list were met with ease to lay out the tables with various pieces of table decor. As well as a cake table, and later a dessert buffet. I couldn’t believe it, it looked excellent!! All my requests had been met perfectly. The staff were amazingly coordinated to serve 80 guests. Silly complaint, but there may have been too much food. The portions were very generous!! But that just goes to show, there’s no scrimping - we were given the same value as any other customer. We offered the guests a limited version of the menu, and in advance so the kitchen could be organised. We had some guests with food requirements which Rebecca’s and team assisted with. We were on the top floor away from the regular crowd and we got to enjoy the tartare with outdoor light and heating, enjoying the views of the Thames and Putney Bridge lit up at night. The Boathouse and the staff were amazing and we felt so lucky to have chosen it.

The risotto was okay, but extremely misleading that their "vegetarian" roast had potatoes cooked in goose fat, with no alternative - last time I checked geese were animals, so I'd be interested to learn how you extract the fat while they're still alive. I can only hope the (blunt and unhelpful) waitress was mistaken, else you should expect a visit from the FSA in the coming weeks.

veggie roast is marked as vegetarian on the menu but when we asked we were told the roast potatoes are cooked in goose fat and there is no alternative for veggies unless we paid extra for a side. the waitress was very blunt, hostile and unhelpful and not at all accommodating to us. came here a few years ago and found it was really veggie/vegan friendly then so very disappointing!!

I celebrated my birthday at the Boathouse Putney. I love the place: food is really good, crew is super nice and supportive and the venue is beautiful!

A far superior option to the neighbouring Wetherspoons on a beautiful Saturday lunchtime by the Thames and a 20 min walk to Craven Cottage. Service was good....but ... They could have done with a couple more bar staff as it was match day, very sunny and therefore so busy. Could do with more river side seating too. (You can book)

Was there with the love of my life, and he absolutely loved the food. Such a good spot for food. We sat in the garden in the sun, and the staff were so attentive and made our night. Completely recommend!

The view and the area are wonderful, especially on nice days seating outside. However, the service was so bad. We ordered drinks at the bar and a portion of fries that arrived 35 mins after we asked for it TWICE because the first waiter we asked to must have forgotten. Tables have no number and no bar code so when you order at the bar you have to explain roughly where you're sat which is not ideal. If the service keeps being like this it's not worth it.

Booked an outside table, turned up for one staff member to have the world's worst attitude and tell us basically no, we can't sit outside, until the manager saw and apologised and sorted it. Food took FOREVER and it was only a salad. Nothing was marked as Gluten Free and I'm coeliac so it's detrimental to my health. When the food FINALLY came out, I asked for condiments, they never came. The view was nice but honestly so overrated.

Such an incredible location, can’t recommend the pub enough. Service was top notch, and the food matched. I personally went for the steak - which was incredible - but the missus wanted seafood and wow did they deliver. Beautiful evening overlooking the river was the cherry on top. Staff were on point, always there for what we needed. Can’t really give more praise - an utter 5 star venue.

Very disappointed with the food. We got married here a few years ago and we were keen to go back for a dinner. The fish pie came out more like a soup, with what little potatoes there was quickly dissolving into the shallow dish, and the mussels (which I had had a few times before and was looking forward to) came out cold with a broth that just tasted like salty water. In the end the whole table had fish and chips. No apology from the staff or complimentary drink to compensate for the fact that we ended up eating in two shifts while waiting for the second round of fish and chips, and the only acknowledgement came at the end of the night when we asked that the service charge be removed from the bill.

Very disappointed. My parents went to this place to have coffee , a lady from the staff shouted at them for no reason ,,,,coffee was served late for them and they were calm and nice , however she started shouting asking them to leave …..im not sure why this happened , however , if two nice , decent adults wants to have coffee in the weekend , then they for sure deserves it , if any of your staff is not in a good mood , then they need to put there anger somewhere else not on people ! Really disappointing!

Came here to have a few drinks. Wouldn’t serve me past 10:15. Very rude service considering that fact I worked at Youngs. Accussed me of lying about my selima but I work for the company. Not sure why they accused us of lying. I wouldn’t come back.

Another beautiful environment you should see!

A 10 minute walk from one of Putney's tube stations is worthwhile to find this hidden gem overlooking the Thames river. The interior whilst large is cosy with nice wooden finishes and some lovely seating areas. Multi- levels so you can get a good view of the river and enjoy a good pint! N.b. Didn't eat so can't comment on the food! Prices are standard london prices 6-7 pounds/pint.

Love this pub, food is amazing, reasonably priced and the service is spot on. We go most weeks as we really feel it’s the best roast in London. The sausage roll is also AMAZING!
