Terry's Cafe in Southwark

I was looking forward to trying Terry’s cafe after hearing and seeing good things and we traveled some distance to get there. Unfortunately I left extremely underwhelmed, although you could tell the meat on the full English was of good quality that’s about the only thing I could complement. I felt that the service was quite substandard, We were sat at a table which hadn’t been wiped properly so it was very wet and still had bits of food left all over it. I felt that the server was slow quite ‘slap dash’ very slow to take our order although they were not busy and I felt the server was quite rude when she did come over. We ordered 2 cups of tea which came with the milk already added and with the teabag floating in the cup and I had to ask for a clean cup as one cup was filthy and very stained on the inside. The breakfast came out within minutes, our eggs were undercooked and had to send mine back as can’t stand snotty egg white, they forgot the mushrooms on one of the breakfasts and never asked if we would have liked fresh or tinned tomatoes. The ‘chunky chips’ on the breakfast were clearly frozen chips and were overcooked so didn’t bother eating them. We received tap water in a dirty, chipped glass bottle and one of the side plates had a big chip out of it. Unfortunately I felt quite ripped off so I wouldn’t recommend this place and certainly won’t be returning.

The breakfast options are delicious, especially the classic full English. The staff is friendly, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Perfect for a casual brunch or a quick bite any time of the day!

Really nice, authentic English breakfast experience. Huge portion sizes at very reasonable prices. Service was fast and staff were lovely. We joined the queue before arriving which meant a shorter wait time on a busy Sunday. Hash browns were cooked perfectly although price is a little steep for 3 hashbrowns and we also enjoyed the smoothies which were freshly made. Highly recommend for a no fuss, breakfast or brunch here. Would be nice to see an option to book inside or outside on the booking system in future.

We found this little gem with a bit of research looking for the best breakfast/brunch in London and it did not disappoint. Friendly, attentive service. Fabulous choice of food. Good quality fresh ingredients. Recommend for a treat. Perhaps worth booking as they are incredibly popular. Definitely one to return to when we are in the city again.

Have to wait (virtual queue, scan QR code when you get there) but it’s worth it! Tasty food, comes quickly and didn’t feel rushed at all to leave (which you can a lot of the time when there’s people waiting!) Veggie and vegan options, lots of add ons Cheap and tasty, very generous portions as well Come here! We will be back

We Steamed into Terrys cafe after a good mornings graft. Table service was instant as we arrived. The food turned up real quick and the staff were very helpful We sat outside as it was busy. Three plates of food completely wiped out! Nothing left. Good quality food. You pay the extra here but it's worth it with the experience you get ... it is a world famous cafe and you get that feel. Compare the quality to the Regency or Pelicis and I feel my arm has been diced sliced and sold No toast or drink included in the breakfast which is double the price of the others Asked for crispy bacon (it was limp as an old man) and runny yolk (hard as a young man£. Utterly new and disappointing

We ate outside over the summer. The silverware and glasses for my friend and I were dirty, which was unfortunately a common theme on our trip. It really took away from the experience here since this is supposed to be one of the best breakfast spots. The food wasn't particularly good. The black pudding - which I was very excited to try - tasted mealy and had a matching texture. The rest of my custom English breakfast was bland and not noteworthy.

Great food, warm welcoming service, lovely atmosphere. My Eggs Royale and the Eggs Benedict were excellent on the sourdough bread. Have been twice. Fully enjoyed each time. Don't forget the hash browns!

A warm inviting place with delicious food and attentive service perfect for any occasion

Visited this cafe since it is local to my flat and have recently moved into the area. Had to wait 30 mins in a virtual queue on a Sunday which wasn’t too bad given the popularity. The plate in my photo is a ‘hamlet’ with toast that came to £14 total - tea was £2 also. A bit pricey but good quality meat and black pudding. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service as well. All in all, the experience was good and Not your typical tourist trap. While the food quality could be found cheaper elsewhere, the cafe did provide an enjoyable, very ‘British’ atmosphere and is good to bring people visiting London.

Wow. Greasy spoon but not at the same time. Sizable portions. Love this place but couldn't use the lavatory here as it was right next to the pot washer and I don't think I would be able to look them in the eye after destroying the toilet. Also I feel this is rather unhygienic.

Everything's 5 stars. Thalia is one of the kindest and sweetest persons we've ever met. Austin sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" when he learnt that we're from San Francisco! Great food and beautiful people!

Personal place, nice queue system

Not a bad place if you want to try a traditional English breakfast. The food is okay, but not exactly delicious. The staff is different: some are nice, some are not so nice.

Join the virtual queue before heading there, as it should save you some waiting. Our table was available within 5 minutes of our arrival. It gets quite busy especially on weekends. Food was great and came out hot and fast. It was just as great as my first visit in 2017.

£2.70 for a lousy cup of filter coffee in a paper cup, 3.70 for a stale cinnamon bun. Rip off.

Finally visited Terrys cafe today. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! Love the bubble and squeak option, a proper nice cuppa a proper cafe. Great service & atmosphere, will definitely return - 10/10!

What an absolute blinder of a place! One of the best Cafe’s I’ve ever been to for a full english. The owner Austin is a top man and really cares about his customers. It’s no wonder this place has hosted the likes of Big John and Tom Skinner. After my food, Austin even offered me a cup of tea free of charge on him. Everything this cafe represents is why we should support small businesses and hardworking business people. I’ll definitely be back on my next visit to London. Keep up the good work Austin, doing Terry proud. Gianluca

Extremely popular cafe and rightly so. Around a 30-minute wait for a table on a Saturday morning due to the number of customers but able to grab a delicious coffee from the adjoining coffee and takeout counter whilst we waited. I had poached eggs on sourdough toast with avocado. Very reasonably priced for central London. The service was friendly and attentive. Recommended.

A beautiful diner with even more beautiful food

To be fair we did come in a big group (8 people) and most of us ordered an omelette (the menu is limited so not masses of choice anyway). However the food came in dribs and drabs over a period of 40 min and usually not correct at first time of asking. (One took 3 attempts before it was right). Mine was last and the chips were cold. That happens and is not the end of the world. What annoyed me is the half hearted apology like it was our fault. Two members of party had to leave early and told Terry’s to take the service charge off. They didn’t and even tried to charge us for something that had already been paid for. The first time I came here the food and service was nice but subsequent visits have become increasingly poor. I don’t mind it when things go wrong but being made to feel that we were responsible is not on. Terry’s is a busy cafe and won’t miss my custom but he won’t be returning.

We’ve visited Terry’s before and had a great experience so we brought some friends who were here on holiday for breakfast, unfortunately this time our experience was completely ruined by the wait. When we arrived, we were told we had under a 30 min wait for a group of 3, and queued immediately on the app/website. 1h and 10 mins later we were still not seated and had to leave without eating breakfast as our friend was going to miss his flight because they couldn’t guarantee we could be seated in the next 5-10mins. Extremely disappointing and ruined our friends last morning in London; if they had been upfront about the wait time at any point in the 1hr wait we could’ve salvaged the rest of our morning by going somewhere else, but we ended up just wasting all our time hungry in a queue.

Terry's was a chance discovery for me. I had some mates who were on trial at the nearby court, (not only found 'Not Guilty', the jury came out and hugged them), and I was there to support them. The trial went on a few weeks, and on my first day, I called into Terry's for breakfast. I enjoyed it so much, I started meeting up with my mates here, and going here for lunch. What a lovely place, and great service.

After watching a video on you tube I decided to pay a visit to this cafe I had to wait only about ten minutes to get seated it was very busy that's always a good sign a nice lady showed me to my seat and gave me a menu I had a full English breakfast it was great egg bacon sausage tomato black pudding and crusty bread and a cup of tea the service was good the food was excellent the whole experience was very good I will do it again some time

On my recent trip to London visiting Terry’s Café was number one on my to do list. I was pleased to see that the café was exactly as I have seen on their website and other TripAdvisor reviews. On arrival I was shown to a table and given a menu… I was given some time to select what I wanted to eat and drink. I think as I placed my order my mouth started to water in anticipation. After a few minutes the staff member who took my order returned to confirm what I had ordered to drink. Some more time passed, and they noticed that there was still no drink so said they would chase it up. My food was delivered by another member of staff, and I mentioned that my drinks order has not arrived, they disappeared and returned shortly with my coffee… I guess they must have been expecting stormy weather as the cup was about 2/3 full. So now for the main event… The food was extremely nice, and I would suggest it was some of the nicest I have eaten. I was happy that I took the time to travel to Terry’s café and would recommend it to all and happily return on a future trip to London. Some of my reviews may seem unforgiving but I come from a time when everything was not “Awesome” and “near enough was not good enough”. So, if I say something is “Excellent” that is because it is somewhere better than most others… and well worth considering visiting. I hope this review was of help, please consider following my travels & reviews in the autumn of my life.

Full English grill for breakfast! Was superb!

I travelled some way to terrys caf on recommendation of top bubble and squeak… I ordered the works and a veggie the meals came with 2 hash browns instead of bubble and squeak without me being informed this was the case (unfortunate cause I just don’t really like these, I would have ordered something different or come back another time if I’d have known) I told the blonde waitress she replied “these things happens when we are busy”… come on surely if I’m paying a £77 bill for my breakfast it’s gotta be a better than that? I took off the service charge because of this and still felt short changed which is unfortunate because the other staff were great and the bloody Mary’s were some of the best I’ve had. Too bad I probably won’t have that bubble and squeak now.

After a long travel we woke up in London and first place we went was Terry’s Cafe. Can’t explain how happy and full their breakfast made us. Talia was great explained us the menu. And the owner dogs were so cute and well behaved. Loved the place and will definitely come back. Thank you!!!

The best vegan sausage I've ever had! Was initially grumpy during my visit to Terry's as it took over an hour for our table of four to be seated, but the charm of the place quickly lifted my mood. It wasn't my first time at Terry's so I was already familiar with the decor, but it was nice to sit at the table closest to the till, where we could get a good look at the pictures on the wall - mostly from local schools and street parties in the early 1950s. Had to cancel the smoothie I'd ordered next door while waiting (which was due to be delivered through to our table) as the menu revealed it had an item I'm allergic to - so be warned if you're ordering in the deli to ask for the ingredients. Thankfully this was dealt with quickly and efficiently. I ordered the veggie breakfast, swapping out tomatoes for toast and, despite the no substitions rule, was allowed to add chips as they were out of bubble and squeak. I initially tried to order the vegan (which comes with chips as standard) with an added egg, but the waitstaff kindly pointed out I could get the breakfast I wanted cheaper another way. I would recommend joining the queue before you arrive, if the app indicates a wait, as it can be quite a while. It's just testament to how great the place is though.

This is my first breakfast in the UK. The café offers traditional English breakfast dishes, and they play retro nostalgic music inside. The portions are generous and delicious. The staff is very friendly, especially an older Caucasian woman. If I have the chance to visit London again, this breakfast place will definitely be my top choice to revisit.

A1 service, super friendly staff and good quality food! The hangover cure I needed! Full fry, a pint, and a cuppa! I joined the virtual queue on the website on the train up, and as I walked to the door, my table was ready. Brilliant food, and I love the hospitality. You can tell all the staff were super proud of the cafe and loved to serve all the happy customers. The cafe has so much charm and will be back!

The Terrys Cafe and Terry's Deli situation is just a mess. I'm not sure why food from one menu is not available in the other when they're next door. Coffee is made in the Deli and brought into the cafe anyway! The food is good and service is friendly.

Absolutely delicious, at a good price and with very friendly staff, they don't allow reservations but we arrived at a good time on a Monday. The full English Breakfast is incredible and very very filling and the tea is very delicious.

This was my first time in this restaurant although I had looked longingly at it on my way past for the better part of the last year. What a treat. It was like you had arrived back on your nan's sofa and she had whipped you up a cheese omelette and chips! The service was darling. SO friendly, so attentive and smiley. To be honest I don't want to big it up too much because everyone will go!

Visited Terry's for a proper London experience and enjoyed a classic English breakfast. It was fantastic—sausage, eggs, bacon, bubble & squeak, black pudding, beans, grilled tomatoes, and mushrooms. Definitely a meal to remember—delicious and filling, the perfect start to a day in London!

A cafe that has a service charge. What genius thought that was a good idea? Since when did 'caffs' have service charges? They also think 'cash is obsolete' and throw insults about for leaving factually correct reviews. Nice people. To make matters worse they attempt to cover up their behaviour and poor attitude to customers by amending their response in which they used insults. Nice people.

This has become somewhat of a regular haunt for me, being so close to the office. The food is of exceptional quality (very reasonably priced too) and you can always be sure of a warm welcome at Terry’s! What is clear is that they take great care in sourcing top quality ingredients and top quality staff! Bonus that they’re also dog friendly . So I’ve no excuse to pass by on my day off…

It is too pricey, honestly, for the quality and quantity of the food. I did not find anything special regarding the dishes. Yes, they are nice, but there are many other restaurants that have similar taste at much lower prices and smaller crowd.

I came for breakfast on a Wednesday at 7:30 am. The staff wasn't ready until 10 minutes later. They were welcoming. The full English breakfast was so good. It came with a sunny side egg, bacon, sausage, black sausage, bubble and squeak, mushroom, grilled tomato and bean. Their menu offers a variety of items. I hope to come back on my next trip to London.
