5* #1 in Leeds? Joking surely. I had bought in smooth Duck 's Liver you could eat anywhere; smoked haddock (the girl next to us at breakfast had a bigger piece) was overcooked and served on greasy stir fried onions, leeks and peppers when the menu said green vegetables; covered on bottle bought mustard sauce you get on hot dogs served with overdone roast new potatoes. Desert was vanilla brûlée sans sugar coating., the best thing was the ice cream served with it. The serving staff were lovely though.

Comida y bebida a precios razonables.

We had a pre theatre booking. There were no staff to greet us at the restaurant and we had to find someone ourselves in order to be seated. This happened again twice ie when we were ready to order and when we wanted the bill. We were the only people in the restaurant so there was no ambiance. There was a private function directly beside the OPEN restaurant which got noisier and noisier. There was also Christmas music playing loudly. We were unable to here each other speak. Overall VERY disappointing!!

The first night I ate here there was a mix up with my food, and I had to wait for it to be cooked again. I had initially waited 30 minutes and then had to wait another 30 minutes for the food that I wanted. I found this to be a very long wait but the food was delicious and they did take it off the bill. However the next night I ate here food came out within 10 minutes and was of an equal standard.I would say that service was a bit pot luck but the food was great and more than made up for it!

It never ceases to amaze me just how quiet Tempus always seems to be despite its close proximity to the palace theatre. Nevertheless the prices are reasonable for Manchester city centre and the quality of food, drinks and services has never disappointed. The ambience is grand yet modern but quiet. If you can manage a short walk there are far better places to eat (the Midland hotel is our preferred place) but if not don't hesitate to pop in here pre or post a palace theatre visit for drinks or food, just don't expect a raving atmosphere!

We had stayed in the Palace Hotel previously but missed this gem. This time the hotel was full for some kind of conference. We booked the restaurant for its convenience to the theatre where we were taking our children that evening. <br />The ambience was calming and peaceful whilst not being too deathly. The staff were friendly and attentive and we were all made to feel welcome. The children were, unusually, on their best behaviour and a credit to themselves. But I think that the luxury of the occasion was not lost on them. We all enjoyred our food which was of exceptional quality. The sizes of the portions were deceiving and gave no hint of how filling they would turn out to be. I had the Posh hotpot. Delicious. Similar comments were made by the others, who all had chicken. <br />So, a very big &quot;Yes&quot; to this Restaurant from us. So much so that my partner and I are going back on Thursday when we are staying in the hotel without the children ;-).

We booked this as a quick 2 course deal prior to going to a gig. We'd mused eating at James Martin but it was too far. What a bad choice from us. Firstly we were told the deal that is currently live on Pride of Manchester was not valid and had not been since summer. Then we were told we could have 3 course for £25. When said we'd have the 3 for £25 we were told that wasn't an option?! Whilst we we were querying this the drinks didn't come despite the bar being empty and bar staff just stood there. Finally the very lovely waitress (the only positive to this visit) came to say they would honour the deal. By this time it was 45 mins in to our visit. Easily the time we could have walked to and from James Martins. The food was ok. This is me being kind. It was Luke warm. The linguine was penne and the lobster in it was 3 pieces of God only knows what part. I will never ever ever eat there again. It was just an awful experience. No wonder it was empty. As a ps the only other guest was complaining loudly about the food too. Chips were cooked on the outside but not on the inside. What a shame as its a beautiful building inside.

We booked this as there is a 2/3 course meal deal live on Pride of Manchester. The link leads you through to open table to book and is still live now. The restaurant said that hadn&#039;t been valid since summer 2014! Then they asked us if we&#039;d like 3 courses for £25. We said yes only to be told by the next waitress that was not an option either! We were in a rush and by the time this was sorted we had been sat there for 30 mins without even a drink despite having ordered one. And despite the bar staff stood around not going anything. The ambiance was poor as there was barely anyone in. Now I know why! <br />The restaurant agreed to honour the deal but the food was poor there was only one other diner and she complained loudly about the poor food. I&#039;d say do not bother eating here. It&#039; a joke. There are tons of great restaurants with better food and ambiance. <br />The only plus was our waitress was very pleasant.

We booked a table at this restaurant two months early for a special occasion before going on to a concert in Manchester. Less than a week before the evening, the hotel restaurant rang to say they'd cancelled our booking in favour of a group booking of 300. On questioning the lady if she thought that was fair she was stumped for an answer. Telling us the booking was cancelled, she was extremely matter of fact. On being questioned if she thought it fair, maybe changed and said she would need her superior to contact me. The same lady rang back to say they couldn't do anything and when I said that wasn't acceotable she asked what I wanted! I said the table we had booked two months ago. They had effectively contracted with us by booking the table. A day after, I was contacted saying they had found a table miraculously and would give us a bottle of champagne. Very nice of them but by this point, the whole affair had been tainted. I understand a booking of 300 is more profitable than a booking for two but to just cancel our booking in such an offhand manner and only 'find' a table when I said their treatment was poor leaves a sour taste. This should have been a special occasion and I have no doubt the restaurant would have been nice and the food lovely but the haughty manner in which we were 'cancelled' spoiled the whole episode.

Things started out ok in the restaurant. We were seated, it was less noisy, our drink and food orders were taken, but that was the last we saw of anyone. After 30 minutes of waiting we left. The reason for the 2 rating for the food and value is that the site requires a rating. As we had neither food nor drinks, I really cannot give a rating. N/A would be more appropriate.

Don't make a reservation at this restaurant they cancel 45 minutes before you are due to dine !!! They are totally unreliable and their customer relations is diabolical.. I am absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated .........We have never tried the Tempus Restaurant before (and never will now) so on the 22nd October 2014 I made a reservation for 1730 for the 5th December 2014 for three people. I received confirmation of the booking by e-mail way back in October. I wanted to make sure that I had a table for pre-theatre dining on the lead up to Christmas. 22nd October, plenty of time you would think for a December booking. Not the case.We were in a taxi on the way to the venue and I received a voicemail from the restaurant saying they were cancelling my table and to ring them back. I rang back immediately and they confirmed they were cancelling the table because the hotel was full!!! What has that got to do with accepting my booking way back in October? I told them it was unacceptable and how was I to find a table somewhere at such short notice to accommodate a show that starts at 1900. I asked them why they had not tried to contact me sooner to cancel my table to give me time to re-arrange something myself. Their excuse was that they had tried to ring me several times and wanted to speak to me. I had no missed calls from them and they did not leave a voicemail to ring them back which would have been the sensible thing to do. They had my e-mail address but did not e-mail me.So, they say they had tried to contact me on several dates to cancel, so why did they send me an e-mail on the day before my reservation to confirm the booking?????They offered to book me a table at a restaurant that advertises itself as a 'posh junk food restaurant'. I told them this was unacceptable. I had booked at a 4* hotel for a decent meal and was being re-directed to a 'junk food' restaurant. They then tried to book me in at another restaurant which was miles away from where I wanted to be. Not being impolite even though I was livid from the experience I tried to ring them back to tell them this was not acceptable but they didn't answer the phone !!!!Luckily I was able to book a table at very short notice at Mr. Coopers at the Midland Hotel. They came to the rescue and we had a delicious meal with perfect service !!! I should have booked there in the first place. So my advice is don't book a table at the Tempus Restaurant. I will never ever consider going there again after my experience.Lindsay B

The food was okay but the service was a bit slow even although we had given them our started and maincourse choices ahead of time. The restaurant itself is lovely inside and the staff very nice but not one to visit if you are in a hurry.

I was staying in the Palace Hotel for a duration of 5 nights over two separate visits, so I ate in the restaurant alone on a few occasions.Firstly, the quality of the food was excellent, but be warned, expect ala-carte portions that will have to be supplemented with side dishes if you are feeling hungry!Unfortunately, this food seems to have a premium price tag to it, which I'm not sure is justified. I have seen this uplift in prices in other restaurants that are located inside a hotel. £22 for a sirloin steak in a place like Tempus seems an awful lot to me, and whilst it was lovely, it certainly wasn't the best I've ever had and probably doesn't represent good value for money. I had a similar experience with a £14 chicken Caesar salad from the bar menu. £14 for a simple meal without table service! The service was also patchy as well. The staff were very polite and professional, but I'd be left without drinks for durations, or nobody coming to take an order. I think the issue is that the restaurant is quite large to accommodate the hotel's breakfast and conference needs, but on a quiet night, only a handful of staff are service across customers that are spread right across the restaurant, so people get missed or forgotten about. You won't be disappointed with Tempus, but there are certainly restaurants that offer better service and value in the heart of Manchester.

All was fine, ambience, food and value. Perhaps you should re-introduce the &quot;Pre/Post Theatre Menus &quot; Only constructive criticism - some what cold within the Tempus Restaurant due to the main entrance doors being left open - not automatically closing plus I had a black coffee prior to our meal from the bar and was charged £4 - exorbitant !!

The food and service was really good, however, we sat just as you went in the restaurant and there was a draft from presumably the outside door. Next time we go we&#039;ll ask for a table nearer the back of the restaurant.

Food was good, service very good, decent size portions but all dishes were a little cool. Ambience spoilt by a large group function at the bar area, but would still recommend as a pre theatre meal, on this experience would not recommend if you are looking for an intimate meal.

This review concerns the Bar.As cafe / bars go this venue be a little on the cold side - draughty even !There be three seating options - 'low down' 'high up' and 'normal'. The ' normal' seating and tables can be found along the two sides. We settled for the latter, albeit with a slight draught behind Moi. It was comfortable enough for dining. The Restaurant did not open until 16:00 - too late on this occasion. The menu for the bar be rather limited - no grill option. One settled for the Pizza - 12'' stonebaked meat feast. It was served on a wooden paddle ! Meat was included, but, not a feasts worth ! Condiments were not provided - one did not want such anyway. The draught beers be rather limited - just the 'usual' brews. Bottled beers are available - one enjoyed two pints of Clock Tower Blonde brewed by the Tatton Brewery for this venue at 4.0 %.The wine list be reasonable - one settled for a large glass of the cheaper Spanish Red - it was fine. The restaurant be situated in the middle of the large room on a platform, the bar seating encircles this. The conveniences be small but clean.Service was fine, but, the meal took a fair while to arrive despite it being quiet. Will bear this place in mind in future.

We used this restaurant prior to the theatre. Most of what we experienced was OK. Nothing particularly bad but nothing to shout about either. The place is comfortable but is in a very large area in the Palace hotel and as a result would benefit from being screened off to make it more private. The food was fine but would have benefitted from being hotter with bigger portions. This is not the place to go if you have a good appetite. The service was quite good and not slow as suggested by others but I don't like waitresses having their fingers inside of the glasses as they deliver them to the table ( hygiene). I'm not ruling it out for the future but I would hope to see improvements if I do risk it.

Average food and not much choice. Overpriced for what you get. Strange atmosphere feels a little like you are sat on a platform in a train station not really the kind of place you want to sit and eat and drink for hours.

Visited here before going to see Jersey Boys, food was very good, bit pricey but worth it! The steak was cooked to perfection. The only criticism would be that the service was pretty slow, we had to go the bar to order drinks after we had waited for 15 mins for someone to come over and then the food did seem to take a long time from ordering to eating, about 45 minutes - luckily it was worth the wait!!

Steaks cooked wrong X2, a Medium rare steak was taken away and came back 3 mins later as Medium-well done!!! and a well done steak was red in the center. My wife had to assist holding my plate as we where not given stake knives (despite asking twice) and the plate moved with the effort to cut the meat. When we walked into the restaurant we loved the decor and ambiance. The service was very good. Instead of starters we decided to have some humus and olives to share. The humus was very dry and tasteless. For the main course we went for the cod loin with sweet potato. It was not really seasoned so it tasted very bland and slightly dry. I won&#039;t say I will not go again, but I thought it was pricy and not particularly good.

£10.50 for a glass of wine is an absolute disgrace even for Manchester for a house sauvignon blanc. If I had known before ordering I would have had water. The food was more or less inedible - chicken tikka masala that would make the best vindaloo blush. Naan bread that was actually pitta bread. And 6 chips. No apology just a waiter that thought it was amusing. Disgusting service disgusting food and way overpriced for what can only be described as average pub grub trying to be restaurant class. Note to chef tikka masala is only mildly spicy with tomatoes and cream not mind blowingly hot tomato sauce

I ate here this evening as part of a large party, and was disappointed. I agree with other that this a beautiful building, which I've visited over the years for functions, but I hadn't eaten at this restaurant before. We waited a long time for the food to arrive, for well over an hour, and when the food came it was poor to average. The choices on our set menu were limited, but I ordered a melon starter and cod loin. I asked for some bread and butter with the starter, had to remind the waiter to bring it, and when it came had to ask again for butter too.The cod was advertised as coming with 'spiced sweet potato wedges'. When it arrived, the fish was not hot, and as there was no more in the kitchen, they could only reheat it, not replace it. The wedges were not sweet potato, they were ordinary potatoes. Overall, none of the other diners at my table (about 10 of us) were that pleased with their food. There was a steak pie with a thick crust, a mackerel dish which was very small given the price of mackerel, and pork with noodles which was largely left uneaten. I do appreciate that time was taken to try and remedy my main course, but overall the meal was not that good.

Beautiful restaurant in impressive and elegant surroundings. We went for the pre theatre set menu which at first glance appeared reasonably priced. However many of the dishes carried a supplement and so not as good value as we initially thought. Having said that we both enjoyed the food. My partner was impressed with his pigeon starter and I thoroughly enjoyed my cod main. The food was well presented and the service attentive.

What a hidden gem in the city centre of Manchester. All you can eat Lunch for £8.50 between 12noon till 2pm. Including a drink £10.50 (beer or soft drink your choice). Their menu change every day and today we had chilli con carne, roast chicken, fish goujons with a lot of sides your choice, salad and cakes for desert. I will be back as this was just a bargain. The place has been running for years and I wish I knew about it earlier.
