What a hidden gem in the city centre of Manchester. All you can eat Lunch for £8.50 between 12noon till 2pm. Including a drink £10.50 (beer or soft drink your choice). Their menu change every day and today we had chilli con carne, roast chicken, fish goujons with a lot of sides your choice, salad and cakes for desert. I will be back as this was just a bargain. The place has been running for years and I wish I knew about it earlier.

After being told that the breakfast is £12, I thought 'well, at least it's buffet and I won't have to wait long', but then, after getting my food and drink, I realised that everything was cold and both juices were extremely watered down, even scrambled eggs were swimming in water. Noone has even asked me how was the food, they probably knew it wasn't the best.

Firstly, it was really hard to find the entrance. It is on the other side of the building from what Google Maps indicates and the door was closed. The only way in was through the Hotel. The setting feels old and cold, not very welcoming. With a little touch it could actually become a nice vintage restaurant, Titanic-style. There is a lovely lady that welcomes you and makes you pay first, then she serves the soup, clears the tables and takes away the empty trays from the buffet. The breaded cod was delicious, fresh and crunchy. I also appreciated the tomato soup, the chicken and the vegetarian option which was filo pastry pie with lentils. While these were very good, the potatoes and the broccoli and cauliflower were surprisingly bad, hard to swallow. The gravy, the peas and the garlic bread were average good. I didn't even taste the lasagna and the cakes as they looked really dry and old. The strength of this experience is probably the price, 8.50£ per person all you can eat buffet, the only drink included is water. I believe this place has great potential but suffers of the connection with the hotel above it.

Well, time for another review on Jenny's restaurant and bar.We go here quite regular and twice at Christmas for the festive lunch. This year was the same as last year. The food was great. Nicely set table, Sherry to start with, followed by the usual soup and bread roll, then a lovely turkey dinner followed by the lovely Christmas pudding and custard. Plenty of everything and the service was impeccable, first class. No complaints on anything there. Well done to the chefs. Three cheers to you. Also a big thank you to all the restaurant staff for their hard work too.The only problem this time is the entertainment program. The usual man who does the disco was not available this year, so the man who was doing the entertainment this year was actually terrible in our view. One, he was way to loud and could not sing. In fact he was not singing, he was shouting down the microphone and it was deafening. He was no-where near as good as the previous entertainer. There was not really any Christmas music except an odd one, and he was sometimes out of tune with that. It was supposed to be a Christmas party, but it really did not feel that way. This was on both occasions that we went this Christmas. We really could not wait to get out of the restaurant, to get away from the excessive noise. I did ask the entertainer at the start of lunch if he would balance the speakers so that the noise was not excessive, but as the lunch went on he must have increased it. Terrible. After going here for festive lunches for several years now, we may have to think twice next year before we go again, as if the entertainer is the same person again, we will have to give it a miss. We think that the only ones enjoying this entertainer were those who were drunk or merry, in which case, they would not care about the entertainment. Over all, it did not have a Christmas atmosphere to the lunch. So Jenny's, if you are reading this, Please change this years entertainer to the original entertainer, or lose our business. It was truly spoilt by this years entertainer.

Should have known not to bother when the restaurant was empty at 8.15pm. Food was disgusting, my son had boiled potatoes & wedges, as not really much choice for kids. The wedges looked like they had been sat there all night & the potatoes were rock hard. Gammon was not much better, had to dig slices from the bottom as everything on top had dried up. Desert, well what can I say, non existant. Cheese cake, some other undescribable cake & what looked like tinned fruit. Cheese cake was warm, the other, god knows what it was but tasted disgusting. Waited ages for a drink, while they allegedly changed the pump, only to be told they now have a problem with the San Migel & was offered an alternative. Best is when u go to pay, wait again forever while they get their card machine up & running, to be then asked to pay cash as they have a problem with the card reader. Waitress asked if everything was ok, told her yes & paid cash. WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK. AVOID AT ALL COST, save your money

Visited this place on and off for 10 years. Latest update from me- soup excellent, dessert excellent, main course and presentation average. The idea of a carvery is someone carves the meat- this was some identifiable pinkish meat lounging in some gravy (im veggie and even for me this looked wrong) normally with the meat they used to serve yorkshire puddings and stuffing- none around. I went to help myself to the veggie offerings but despite having been open an hour, the ladles and tongs to grab the food still hadnt been set up. Veg was a pasta bake which was ok as were the boiled potatoes, greens consisted of frozen cheapo ones and the roast potatoes werent proper roasts but looked like leftover baked potatoes thrown in some fat. Big problem is most of the staff are Eastern Euro so dont really have a clue how a British carvery should look and taste (10 years ago when the staff were mainly brits and western euro was amazing and professional) and they were struggling understanding requests from customers. When my mum said she didnt enjoy her meal the girl just laughed and didnt request further feedback.

My partner and I decided to pop in for lunch today having seen the pizzeria signs plastered along the side of the hotel along Portland Street advertising a lunch pizza deal with free garlic bread from 12-3pm.We at first missed the sign to the pizzeria to the left and instead stumbled into Jenny's Restaurant. It seemed moderately busy with a self service flow. We waited at the 'wait to be seated' sign however no one promptly greeted us and after a minute or so we left the room to check we were in the right place.Upon realising our error we went through to a deserted but open-doored and unattended pizzeria just after 1pm. We were sat down for a good few minutes but noone came to welcome us, in fact, there were no staff in sight. A woman that looked like a server later came through from the kitchen and gave us a funny look as she went out another door and we realised why later when my partner called in to the kitchen to grab someone's attention only to eventually be told that the pizzeria only opens at 4pm. The lady could have informed us!After sitting around like lemons we just left so I can't comment on the look or taste of the food. The pizzeria had good decor (dark, so perhaps not to all tastes) but the lack of attentive staff and blatant false advertising has really frustrated me.

Popped into Jennys and we were impressed with the cost, service and food. Its a carvery and you have the option of having a starter and or dessert. As I was with my 'starving' sons they had all that was on offer. The staff were helpful and pleasant, we were not rushed.

I have to say after a very heavy night at the stone roses concert my husband and myself were looking forward to our breakfast in the morning! We were welcomed by friendly staff and were told to find a seat, I went to get myself some toast where I found a large tray of pre cooked toast which looked like it had been there a while, the sausage was burnt the bacon was unsure if it was cooked or burnt, the beans looked like they had been there all morning and had been sat there to for a long time. But the most shocking part of it all was that while I was still eating my breakfast my plate was taken away from me! Let's just say we quickly left after that, the restaurant was not even busy so there was no reason to feel like we needed to be rushed! I am very happy that the breakfast was included in the cost of our stay. Definitely would not recommend

My two sons and I went for Breakfast and wish we hadn't bothered it was the worst and driest bacon and Black pudding we have ever had.The toast was burnt and the place only had about fifteen tables in. I would heat to see the place full. I spoke to a member of staff that replaced the Black pudding for on that wasn't cooked omg it was getting worse. I spoke to a manger and told him and he said he would let the kitchen know and then walked off never to be seen again. When speaking to the manager I said your trip advisor reviews must be bad but he convinced me that they had no complaints. Never ever again. Burger King next door we ended up in spending money again but at least it was worth the money and prepared us for our long flight ahead.

We had been wandering around Manchester looking for somewhere cheap for lunch. It was a Sunday and we came across the sign 3 course carvery for £6.95....thought we would give it a go....pleasantly surprised...my partner had the soup he said it was okay, although he didn't know what flavour it was and neither did the waiter. I had the salad with salmon and I was more than pleased. The carvery was basic...Two meat beef & turkey but it was carved thick and was very good, Yorkshire puds, boiled & roast potatoes ( although no mash & for me that's usually a deal breaker on a carvery but you remind yourself it's a £6.95 3 course carvery! !) Three veg sauces and gravy then a fab choice of deserts...overall it's pretty good value ... only down side was we were taken to our table and almost abandoned I'm presuming there were a lot of regulars in there and we had to keep asking what to do ...we had to ask about drinks ..It was our waiters first day so he didn't know either so it was all a bit confusing. I'd visit again especially with my daughters.

Eaten here 3 times over the last couple of weeks. It is great value for money, £6.50 or £6 for pensioners. Each time the soup has been piping hot & delicious, this is served with a huge wedge of bread and butter. Every time I have been they have had a whole salmon with various salad. When I have been on a Saturday it has been a 2 meat carvery plus fish, but today it was gammon carvery, boneless chicken breast in a mushroom sauce or curry served with new and roast potatoes and plenty of veg. There has always been a choice of 3 different desserts or fruit salad, plus there has always been melon and fresh oranges, cheese and biscuits served with grapes. They have also had a bottle of wine on offer for £6.95. The food each time has been good and the head waiter is so very polite. Service too is very good.

I have been a few times with my husband for lunch at Jenny’s Restaurant when we are having a day out in Manchester. It is very reasonably priced at £6.50 for three courses or £6 for Seniors, which we are. You can have soup or a selection of salads for starters and we had the salad which included fresh salmon. We then had pork which was carved by the waiter as the chef had gone into the kitchen, but we found it was a bit too thick which made it rather dry to eat, but there was a selection of vegetables and roast potatoes to help yourself to. There were some nice cakes and cheese and biscuits. While not a meal to rave over, it was OK and very good value.

Went in here for a family meal and ordered the combo starter to share. It turned up and was edible, but very over cooked to the point of some of it being burnt. Didn't say anything as was edible and we had pizzas ordered. My pizza arrived and was not only burnt to a crisp, but was also cold! The other two pizzas appeared fine. I complained and had the price of the pizza deducted from the bill. Can't say I would recommend this place.

The meal was great with lots of New chef carving meat, carvery. Worth every penny if it wasn't for the rude staff when we got there. A woman told us that t weren't open till 6.30 when we talked into room. The leaflet said 6.00. We went back at 6.30 in the meal. My friend questioned her. People came in after us and she let them through. I asked why she didn't ask if we were staying in the hotel our room number or anything. Why did she want payment up fronnt and assume I was paying for both meals. She looked me in the face and said because ,' some people eat and don't pay.' I sled about prepayment for breakfast but she brushed me off denying knowledge of procedures. When I got my meal I asked a few people about payment for meals. No one else was asked for payment. I asked the deputy manager who apologised and offered us anything from the bar. I tried to enjoy my meal but was so upset I almost choked. The next day we were told by the manager that the rude staff was going to be disciplined. We accepted apologies and I got a refund. We also had a free lunch because my friend had an accident I'm the bathroom. The showerhead fell on her head. See review for Brittania Hotel.

A carvery to me means a selection of freshly roasted meats with Yorkshire pudding mashed potatoes gravy and veg. This place had beef in gravy and liver with onions or place with the skin on (err) I like fish but not with the skin on, there is no Yorkshire pudding or mashed potatoes only roast potatoes which tasted frozen and heated the left on the warmer. All desserts were just frozen the left to defrost, the cream was more like milk. The soup was nice though, but overall disappointing. I hope they read this review and try to make it a carvery which is what people expect.

Used this so called carvery as part of a Groupon deal whilst staying at the (also terrible) Britannia Hotel (feb 2015).I am sure that there is no health, safety or hygiene being put in place. Cross contamination was evident (don't even attempt if you are vegetarian or have other dietary requirements). The food was all of mass produced frozen bad quality. Very little choice for an advertised carvery menu (should be £9.95 each). Looked dry, tasted horrid and although lots of staff on, very little attention paid to the customers. There was a bottle of wine thrown in....and it was needed! Overall, the management needs to clearly look at this place as we also (grudgingly) had the buffet breakfast in the morning, which was also shocking! Frazzled, stuck together, fatty, cross contaminated...so horrendous if you have allergies and overall grubby looking...I observed one lady whom asked for muesli be passed to 4 different waiters then a chef... Hahah a chef for muesli....and then a waiter brought out 3 single serve sachets and poured them into the muesli dispenser (this highly amused me and the lady in question) even the coffe was of a dreadfully poor standard and the apple juice had a froth on it!My advice would be to go to a whetherspoons.... As the breakfast should also be £9.95 each...AVOID! I do have photos....but I dare not upload them, you'd possibly vomit!

Hello to all you fellow restaurant seekers. Firstly, everyone has the right to their own opinions in regard to a restaurant, but I notice some reviews are faulting the food here.I have reviewed this restaurant now several times and I visit along with a friend on a weekly / fortnightly basis for lunch, and we have been doing now for a couple of years, and the food and staff are excellent. There is usually a carvery at lunch time, and a chef on hand to carve. There is always a selection of meats including fish to suit ones taste. The wine is not expensive. You can get a bottle of house wine, white / red or rose for £6.95 and I have never had a cold meal on either course. The atmosphere of the restaurant is always of high standard, same with the food. The staff plus management are very attentive as always and ready to serve straight away. We have never been kept waiting on any occasion.Personally, we think that Jenny's restaurant on Portland street, Manchester should be given an award for excellence. The chefs are the best we have ever known. The food is of top standards and is cooked to perfection. The chefs never seem to get cheered, so we are sending 3 cheers to the chefs and the restaurant staff, especially after the Christmas festive lunches. They were fantastic. Hip hip. WELL DONE TO ALL, and we will still come to your restaurant as always. Are people going to the correct restaurant?. There are two jenny's, not connected.

The "carvery" had a choice of two meats chicken or beef. Not carved by a chef but laid in trays and covered with tasteless gravy. Vegetables were either under or over cooked and the waiting staff were not attentive. I asked for a receipt for my drinks as I have to claim separately with my company for these. This was a major problem it seemed and the maitre D tutted and rolled his eyes skywards while he arranged for a receipt to be printed from a till. The place is very unwelcoming at dinner time and little better for breakfast. The breakfast staff were at least a little happier. Perversely, if you order food at the reception you get a discount of close to 30%. Avoid for dinner, better restaurants nearby. Unavoidable for breakfast, to which the reception discount applies too, but that was the better meal.

I have been coming here since 2005 and it used to be fabulous- good value for money, fresh veg, excellent cuts of meat (im veggie but whoever was eating with me said the beef was top notch), lovely desserts etc. However, I went here last night and what a disgrace. It was stifling hot inside, the butter on the table had completely melted, how hygienic. The soup was still decent quality to start but the main course was a shambles. The meat isn't technically a carvery anymore but what looked like frozen beef and turkey slices from Heron Foods or somewhere languishing in gravy, the veggie option was a grim pasta bake with chickpeas and some cheese on top, bit like a school cookery project and the fish had been replaced by scampi. The once fresh veg was a mix of frozen carrots and corn together (Gordon Ramsay and Alex Polizzi would have a field day) and another enticing option was a few florets of broccoli mixed with peas and frozen carrots. The roast potatoes tasted fried to death and heavily seasoned, Yorkshire puds were tasty though and the croquettes were a grim replacement for the fresh cauli and boiled potatoes they used to have. Dessert consisted of fruit cocktail and melon(these were ok) Christmas cake (IN MAY) two dry looking cakes and the piece de resistance, individual trifles which look like the ones you get 10 for £1 from Iceland. Worryingly, these were warm and the cream starting to taste sour, I think food standards would be interested in this considering Britannia's other establishments in Southport have already been 'done' by them. I am sad to see this carvery's decline as I always recommended it to friends.

HI Everyone,Well, what can I say. This is now my second review on Jennys restaurant. Best in Manchester. My friend and I visit this restaurant sometimes weekly, sometimes fortnightly and on every occasion we are greeted immediately with a big smile and a hug from the waitress staff. We are immediately shown to a table and served straight away with our first course of three. We never ever have to wait for service or a table. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and the staff are so wonderful. Nothing is too much for them, and they go out of their way to make you so comfortable. Whilst you get on with lunch, the barman comes to your table to see what you would like to drink. For lunch, you get 3 courses, starter, carvery or alternative, sweet. All for £6.50 inc excellent service. This restaurant is ideal for anyone and also for hotel guests alike. The restaurant is part of the hotel Britannia. Both are found on Portland street, Manchester. If you are in Manchester for the day and would like a good 3 course lunch and excellent fast service, then this is the ideal hotel restaurant for you, and the very best in Manchester. The food is of top quality and proper home style cooking. There is plenty to choose from, from carvery, very tender meats and also alternatives e:g fish and other. Choice of sweets too. Starters, soup of the day or an alternative.I must give the chefs a mention. All you lads back there in the kitchen proberbly think that no-body gives you a thought, but rest assured, we do. Hip Hip to all you chefs, you do a wonderful job, and keep up the good work. The management should be proud of all you staff in Jennys restaurant. We will keep coming to have meals, because we love you all very much. There is alternative to lunch, and that is dinner in the evenings. Cost around £9.95, again 3 course, and again immediate attention from the staff.Go on everyone, if you love meals out, you have got it made at Jennys.Look for Britannia hotel on Portland Street, and Jennys is next to it downstairs, alternative entrance, downstairs in the hotel. Go for it. If we were giving stars for this restaurant, it would be 10/10.

Still probably the best "house" in the city cente. Great beer selection, well maintained. Extensive menu, usually cooked right, service good and ordering on their app' easy. Pleasant interior. Prices of course are a half to third of anywhere else in the city centre.
