Tempura Ayr in South Ayrshire

We visited yesterday and was very disappointed with food. We ordered fish & chips what we got was 4 fish goujons and frozen chips with salad which was mostly packet lettuce 1 pint orange juice halfpint shandy and 1 mocha. Price £49 00. Not worth the money

Great food, lovely staff, great ambiance. Good but LARGE dessert, two tasty donuts, could only manage one of them. I will be back.

A really lovely restaurant. Not massive but perfectly formed. Amazing menu options. Fabulous staff. Reasonably priced.

Tempura pub grub is a nice concept if executed well, but I wouldn't class it as tempura. The batter was denser than traditional tempura. We ordered 3 plates, one of them was a prawn tempura, and it's the first time I've had prawn tempura that haven't been straightened. Cooking it causes it to curl up into a ball, this meant the batter wasn't cooked evenly and there's a bit of soggy dough in the middle. The sauces were really nice, although given the large volume of carbs in even their lunch portion, we ran out of sauce and had plenty of food leftover. So in addition to paying £16+ for a main course, you have to fork out another £1.50 for an additional tub of sauce. But the service was fantastic and I'd come back just for the hospitality alone.

Awesome wee ethnic corner! Amazing flavours and freshness in everything served. Also filthy chips served with sauce on top AND below so diggg in 🥰 the staff is friendly and kind to kids too. Lovely atmosphere for lunch or your relaxed scrumptious tea 🍤🍋🍻

When you try any tempura at Tempura, any other tempura elsewhere tastes like cardboard. My advice: go for anything but fish & chips there. It's not that it's not good, but there's so many other exciting things on the menu that you'd be wasting a great opportunity to try something unique. Ah, and the coffee is best in town.

Been many times in the past loved the place last time wife cracking a tooth on a chicken bone in a sandwich won't go back again

Lovely cozy little bar/restaurant. Premises were very clean. Servers and chefs worked together effectively, therefore the service was quick. Food portions were very generous, and the taste was excellent. Wholeheartedly recommended.

My husband and I stopped here for a late lunch when we were doing a bike ride from Irvine to Ayr and back. We were delighted with the whole experience from start to finish. As soon as we stepped inside the restaurant we were impressed by the decor and how nice it was. The front of house/our waiter (Mark I think he said his name was) was excellent. So welcoming, helpful and friendly. He even went out of his way to try and find us a phone charger to borrow while we were there. The food was excellent. I had mixed tempura and salad and my husband had the dirty fries with tempura chicken. All beautifully cooked and presented and extremely tasty. Loved it. We were on our last day on holiday before driving 4 hours home so it isn't a restaurant we would be able to visit again unless in the area but as we were enjoying our lunch I said to my husband that if it was in our own home town it is a place we would definitely frequent. All in all this "wee restaurant" is spot on!

Went for a meal with my Mum and brother, first time eating in the restaurant. Had the steak tempura, filthy fries, prawn tempura and salt and chilli chicken. Food was outstanding, great portion sizes. Staff were welcoming and friendly and all set in lovely environment. A real asset to Ayr town centre.

This place is so much smaller than I thought it would be but it was great. Been to the one in Troon a few times and loved it so hoped this would be as good. It did not disappoint. Filthy Mac loaded fries were amazing. My daughter loved the fish and chips kids option. My wife also enjoyed her meal. Next time I am in Ayr I will be back that’s for sure.

First time in this wonderful , quirky and relaxed restaurant. The customer service was excellent the staff were very knowledgeable in the whole menu and gave excellent advice on what to choose from the delicious menu. Food portions were more than substantial and the meal itself was absolutely delicious and fresh. A very happy dining experience and we will definitely go back so many more dishes to try!

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere and good music. Can't fault it, honestly. It's modern, fun, tasty and with properly friendly staff. I'd go out of my way to come again.

I absolutely loved both of my visits here. My first visit was for my son's 19th birthday lunch and I brought my 8 year old daughter along. She has allergies and they were very helpful in making sure there was no milk egg or peanuts in her food. She's very fussy and usually doesn't finish her food when we're out but to my surprise she eats everything. I had the tempura prawns with a side of filthy fries and my son had tempura chicken and a side of mozzarella sticks. He had a large portion and I had a small portion. We both struggled to finish as the portion sizes are very large but so sooo good. My son also had a drumstick cocktail which I had a sip of and it was delicious. When I returned for my second visit a few weeks later I had the same food and my 15 year old that I took that time had tempura chicken and a side of Mac and cheese. Once again the food was amazing. The staff are lovely helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is good. The decor inside is also stunning my new fav place to eat in Ayr

Been coming to Tempura since it first opened in Buf Prestwick. Feel bad that I haven't reviewed until now, I'll blame it on the fact that I always need a nap after all that food! One of my favourite restaurants. The Filthy Fries are unreal and the Filthy Mac Fries are an absoloute game changer (I like to be difficult and subsitute the Chilli Cheese sauce with the addictive Thai Sauce) I moved to Paisley but travel down to get my Tempura fix as often as I can. The staff are amazing, always so welcoming and are quick to write funny messages on the takeaway boxes about not finishing it all which is a brilliant touch. Not got a bad thing to say about the place at all, maybe apart from the fact that you've not opened a restaurant in Renfrewshire yet!

I have eaten at Tempura several times over the last few years, and the food, together with the service, has been consistently very good. It is always busy, which is a great sign. My personal favourite is 'chicken tempura', and I have tried the fish and the prawn. The tempura is always consistently crisp.

I had the tempura chicken burger, the chicken was fantastic just the same old problem these days with far too much between the bun so it is impossible to eat as a burger and also…. Brioche buns just soak up grease and are far too sweet for burgers.but most places think adding a brioche bun means it’s posher… it’s not and not many people actually like burgers in these buns. All that aside a great place to eat and it’s fantastic staff

I've had multiple takeaways from Prestwick, a few from Ayr 2go as well as takeaways (before the 2gos opened) and sit in from the Ayr restaurant. I can honestly say it's my favourite for both takeaway and sit in. The food is always delicious, fresh and good value. The staff are so lovely and can't do enough for you. Would definitely recommend, best tempura about and I've tried plenty🍽️

my friend and i were in on friday and there was a guy sitting alone staring at us, both Ciara and Lauren couldn’t have done more to ensure that we were ok and comfortable even moving us table, they couldn’t dealt with the entire situation better ensuring he didn’t disturb any other customers friday night out!🙂

Ordered a takeaway Friday, was spot on for pick up time, food was still hot when arrived home, and not a crumb left. Amazing food, would eat here every week if I was paid better 😂 keep up the great work! X

Been to Ayr three times now and been exceptional each time. Had normal menu, the red thai special and the xmas yorkie wrap. Would go every week if we weren't in Stranraer. Highly recommend. Look forward to our next visit

I popped in the other night knowing I'd be lucky if you guys had space because as I knew it was a busy time of year but the guys fitted me in and said 20 mins which was ideal as I was able to go shopping and come back. We thoroughly enjoyed our food & the service is always outstanding so friendly and helpful. You guys rock.

First time today had lunch great choice and big portions also do small portions very friendly good atmosphere definitely be back

Enjoyed my classic Tempura (large) with fries and cool mayo. Nice relaxed and cosy atmosphere, film on the t.v. They were busy on the night I went and I felt like me and other customers were waiting a little bit longer for service/order taking than you would expect. Hope to get back again.

Nice meal, pleasant efficient staff

Really tasty food here. They specialise in tempura battered prawns, chicken, veg etc but have seasonal dishes too. Quite a tight wee place, so best booking ahead if you can. It would have been 5 star for the food, but the Christmas flavours tempura Yorkshire pudding dish medley, although everything individually was tasty, didn't quite work as a flavour combo together on one plate. There is also a budget drinks list with beer, spirit mixers and some cocktails all at £2.50.

Me and my partner came here last Thursday to try this place for the first time time, I had seen some of the specials on Facebook and thought they looked amazing so wanted to give it a try for my early birthday meal. From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was amazing and staff were super friendly, even letting us know that food would be with us shortly while waiting for our food which we’ve never experienced in a restaurant before. You can tell that the staff love working here. The girl who served us was super helpful! I ordered the Cajun chicken 4 cheese burger with Parmesan fries and my partner had Cajun chilli cheese chicken with fries. As I am on a gluten free diet it can be hard finding unique tasty places to eat but I loved it here! My food was amazing, the whole experience felt special and the service was perfect. Partners food was also delicious. Food was very filling, huge portions for the price and the best battered food I’ve ever had. Will definitely be coming back here again, thank you for the amazing food! 5 stars!

Stooped in here a few nights ago for a feed. Cosy little atmosphere as you walk in. Seating is limited, and it's walk-in only( I dint think you can reserve). Saying that, I had no issues. The staff were polite, pleasant, and professional. Gave good advice on the food choice and recommendations. Prices are decent, and the food was excellent. Worth a visit or 3...

Quite thick tempura batter, fairly bland food which was pricey and the meals were assembled at the bar by a staff member who, in my opinion, should have been wearing gloves.

For me, as a vegan, tempura is usually just the same old dish - battered vegetables. But whilst this restaurant might be called Tempura, they offer a lot more! They have a great menu that pushed the concept of tempura into delicious plates of incredible satisfaction. Their vegan options are varied, with a new vegan dirty fries dish (pictured) that was insanely good. The vibe in the restaurant is very laid back, well decorated, and fantastic background music to listen to whilst eating. The staff are friendly, not overbearing, and genuinely seem to like working there. There's a reason why this restaurant is popular and why they are expanding. Give it a go!

Seriously, delicious food, I have never had better "dirty fries" anywhere. Every dish I saw the waiting staff bring out looked simply amazing. I would definitely come back again. A tad bit pricey in my opinion but it was worth it.

Great little local place. Host and wait staff are very friendly and accommodating. Delicious food. We had tempura shrimp, tempura chicken and a chicken burger. Excellent fries. Can get crowded so go early. Service was a little slow but that was because it was so busy on Friday night. Food was worth the wait, however. Definitely will return.

Really enjoyed this place. Very much a Scottish take on Tempura (served with chips/salad rather than rice/soba). The tempura batter was light & crisp, food and service were very good.

The food was excellent. The batter was very light and crispy. Filthy fries was a big plate of food with lots of amazing flavours, and the coffee milkshake is very tasty. I took one star off because the disabled toilet is used for furniture storage. This restricted the space and also meant that a support bar could not be pulled down.

Well this was dissapointing… went to tempura not too long ago and was disgusted by the service and food. Waitresses kept moving people around and were quick to get you out. Felt so rushed and they had terrible attitudes. As for the food it was overly salty, we asked for no chillis within the macaroni only to receive chillis. The tempura was rubbish. I don’t see how anyone can big up in here because even basic pub grub is better…..

Went here in March ‘23 . I had the best ever Espresso Martini made with Kraken Rum and Baileys . I am now obsessed with it 🥰 . The staff were so friendly and welcoming . Please move to Bristol , we need you down here.

Lovely freshly made tempura accompanied by salad or dirty or plain fries . Portions are generous. Very light batter. Small restaurant, no bookings possible, so you can be lucky to get a table at times.

The food was lovely,not too much choice but the quality of the food made up for the limited menu. The staff were just lovely ❤️ the atmosphere was brilliant customers were singing and dancing. We went out for a combined Birthday dinner,and the staff made an extra fuss of us when they found out,which made us feel extra special. The food was very tasty and moreish and plentiful and we both had to get a "doggy bag", to take home with us,and all the food was very reasonably priced. 💝💖💜🩷❤️

Really lovely little restaurant, South African themed. Couldnt believe eating this delish food in Ayr, after living in Jburg, years ago, and after returning from a holiday there in October 22 and then visiting my husbands home town now.... Amazing Highly recommend 🥰

Be sure to wear trousers with an elastic waist. The potions are massive, but the food so good you will eat till you are fit to burst anyway.
