Lived in the village for about 8 years. Always say "I must pop in" life gets in the way and it never happened. Popped in today, what a lovely place, tidy, modern, clean and most of all welcoming. Lovely beer garden sun trap. 100% will be back and bring the family.

First time i have eaten here. Had shredded smokey chicken to start. Was ok but didnt taste smokey and salad was limp. Had breaded haddock for main. The fish was fine but the dressing was lumpy and hard and again limp salad with no dressing. The plate was cold which meant my food got cold half way through.i was very disappointed and wont be back.

A village pub with a great sense of community, the restaurant is just fantastic! I’ve been here twice now and I can’t find anything to fault, the food is top class with large portion sizes and well priced. I’ve eaten the Steak Pie and the Gammon Steak (as well as starters and desserts) between my visits and both meals were well made, very tasty, great portion sizes and served quickly. The owners, Stuart and Alison, are very welcoming and nothing is a trouble for them, they take time to speak to you and make sure you have everything to make your visit enjoyable. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing, you feel quite at home and can easily spend hours enjoying this little gem. We will be back here regularly!!

We visit this pub on a regular basis, with it being walking distance from our home. We always bring family when they are visiting and have always enjoyed our experience. Last night (a Saturday evening), I phoned at 4pm to book a table for 4 people at 6pm. The girl on the phone told us 6pm wasn’t available but 6:15pm was. This was fine and we accepted. However, at 4:30pm, I received a phonecall from the pub telling me that they were going to have to cancel my booking as a ‘very large walk in’ had appeared and the manager has said they could no longer accommodate my booking. Now, surely if you are taking walk ins, you check who/how many tables you have already booked before you decide whether you can take them? I was always under the impression bookings came first and this was why you booked in the first place. I could not believe that my booking was getting cancelled due to a table who had just turned up. I understand that the larger table would be bringing in more money, and we would’ve been ok had they asked to move our booking to slightly later, but to completely cancel this due to someone else walking in, we were completely shocked. I really don’t think we will be back after this, as clearly serving big tables and making money is their main objective, instead of happy customers. I am very disappointed, as I said above, we used to visit the pub regularly and always enjoyed our time when there. Unfortunately, this is something which has put us off completely. My 3 stars are simply based on the fact that all our precious visits have been alright and I wanted to be fair, but if I were just basing it on my experience last night, it would have been 1 star!

A prominent location in Joppa on the main road through to Colylton. A rather pubbish look from the outside. Inside it is comfortable and rustic with a dining area at the back and a lawn with outside eating available. Staff were very welcoming and conversational. A typical menu and the food was quick in arriving with good portions, well cooked and tasty. Would be happy to return.

I went to this little place on a Friday night , the sun was glorious and couldn't understand why it wasn't busier, granted Parking is in the street outside it , which isn't ideal! It's on looks is a typical unassuming village pub! The menu of length is tailored to suit the market and business , but it has something for everyone! The staff were very helpful , and polite , I had the steak pie which was lovely indeed , frankly it's a little goldmine and it should be supported , pay a visit soon

Had to book a family meal for between 7 and 10 at very short notice. Phoned here and they were happy to accommodate and table was booked for two hours time. Were taken through a very pleasant bar area to the newly decorated dining room at the back of the property. Made to feel very welcome. We were all amazed at the variety of dishes on the menu. We all opted for starters and main meal and when the food arrived it was beautifully presented, piping hot and delicious. Portions were so large none of us had room for a dessert and two could not finish their mains but were determined not to leave any so asked for doggy bags which were happily supplied. As most of us were driving we all had soft drinks but had a couple each and then had coffee. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and there was no rush for us to vacate the table which was very nice. The bill was extremely reasonable. If I had to criticise anything it would be that the coffee cups could have been a bit bigger but that is just me. All in all a good time was had by all and I would happily return here for a meal if in the area. I case this helps - this is very convenient for Masonhill Crematorium as is only a couple of miles away but parking could be an issue if a lot of cars.

On behalf of our table ov 13 on christmas day, we had the worst meal possible. The bill was almost £700 for what we can only describe as an absolute disgrace. Ther was no brussels, some plates had no veg, the ones unfortunate enough to get roast potatoes were burnt black, the main was lukewarm, not once did alison come to ask us if the meal was ok, when normally she comes out + chats, the trifle was bitter, when all the trifle plates went back untouched we shouldv been asked what was wrong. We did hear rumours the meals were terrible now, but being loyal as last year it was 1st class, when they couldn't do enough for us + spoke to us, we gave them the benefit of the doubt. We would've complained on xmas day, but the meal was already ruined, we will never ever set foot in there again + all the business we sent your way will be told about your absolute disgrace of a meal. The only reason we left a tip was because we felt sorry for the young boy + girl who had to serve us.

Recently visited here with my husband after hearing people talk about it. When we arrived the bar area was packed and staff were too busy standing about talking to even say hello or give us a table. Was 10 more minutes before we got menus. When the food came it was of a good standard for the prices and the chefs are obviously of a high standard, however had to order drinks twice as our waitress forgot about us and we could hear the chefs shouting from our table near the wall.

Went to the trysting thorn last night with 4 family members. The bar is at the front and restaurant at the back. We were shown to our table (which we booked) by a very pleasant and polite young lady. Bar prices were reasonable. Orders were taken and between us we had the garlic mushrooms and lentil soup both very tasty. The main meals between us were lamb shank, macaroni cheese, mexican burger an BLT burger with cheesy garlic bread. Everyone enjoyed their meal and all agreed it was well cooked, well presented and just right! Nobody tried the desserts as,unfortunately, we were all to full! For 5 people to all agree is (in my opinion) quite rare so full marks to the trysting thorn for a very nice evening.

Trysting Thorn was recommended by a local while we were visiting Coylton. It had just recently changed hands from Kyle to a young-ish couple. Our great experience there had much to do with their warmth and humor. And our food was awesome. I had lentil soup with crusty bread, and my husband got the macaroni and cheese. This is also a hotel, and the restaurant is off the pub area. Cozy and casual.

This is a real hidden gem. Set off the beaten track it takes a bit more effort that some of the more bouge cafes in Troon, but if you're looking for honest food and a fair price in a cafe you can get a seat in....its well worth the extra 3 min walk.

Went here with some friends after working up an appetite swimming. Food was absolutely stellar and all staff gave an excellent service with a smile. Great range of food and very accommodating to dietary needs, it can be a struggle to find somewhere with as many options for dairy/gluten free diets. 10/10 will definitely be back regularly.
