Tegfan Fish & Chip Shop in Gwynedd

I went to this Fish & Chip shop today purely based on the reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The owner was exactly what the reviews said. He was kind, friendly and cooked our fish from fresh. He also gave us some of his speciality fiery curry sauce which was absolutely delicious. The food is lovely so please support this small business if you happen to be visiting the area. Very helpful in arranging a grilled fish as I can’t eat batter. Our big order was all ready on time and tasted delicious. Friendly staff and a great service, diolch o galon!

Fresh fish in light batter. Decent portion of fish. Very filling. Lovely chips cooked well and not greasy. Definitely the go-to.

Can fault the service. Not a local and felt very welcomed by the chap on the till. Ready in under 5 minutes (and sometimes we have to wait for food - that’s life I’m afraid… Just think of the poor sod catching the fish!). Food was great and the home made curry was spot on. If I’m driving past again I’ll be sure to drop on by. Let’s support these smaller businesses when possible!

Once again Dylan and his team catered for 28 of us attending a car club event based in the area. We had pre-ordered our food. Service was friendly and efficient, food was lovely and enjoyed by all. We'll definitely go there again.

Popped in (there’s the first joke) for fish & chips for 2 around 6pm on a Saturday night, There was no one waiting. I ordered, paid, and waited. Another chap came in, who also ordered, paid, and waited. And we both waited, waited some more, and waited even more. I was asked FOUR times what I’d ordered… several times in Welsh. Unfortunately I don’t speak Welsh, and having ordered in English, would have thought that was obvious. I think the gent was asked even more times! There were 3 teenagers (?) ‘serving’ plus an older lady who appeared to be in charge. They all chattered away but didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Eventually the mature lady apologised. After another wait, the gent was given his food before me. When I eventually got the food (40+ mins), it was tasty! But despite the fact I regularly camp just up the road, I won’t be returning to this chippy, it’s dreadful service.

Good quick service but let down badly by the portion size. Paid £4 for a large chips but what we got was barely a small. Real shame as we always go local when visiting an area.

honestly awful, ordered two cheesy chips, got just plain chips, the chips were rock hard, fish looked like it had been squashed with a mallet, overall just terrible,expected so much more

Ordered a small and medium chips with spicy curry sauce. They were both smaller portions than expected. I worked out the cost from the prices on the board. But turned out that was wrong as their prices have gone up ! Surely, like in a shop with wrong pricing displayed this is illegal. Trading Standards!!

Truly dreadful. The order was messed up. Our fish was given to another customer by mistake. Only large fish available. Waited ages due to their mistake. They had no change so had to wait again. When we ate our peas they were burnt and smelt awful. Our first and last visit. Avoid.

Not impressed! Medium sized portion of chips was ridiculously small and we dont like large portions. Lots of burnt bits in there from previous frying. Fish was ok but greasy. Young girl serving was lovely though. Wont be going again!

Awesome chips but the fish batter was so soggy that it was grim. The fish was cooked but we ended up scraping the batter off one side as it was totally soggy - looked like it hadn’t been cooked well unfortunately. Certainly not the crispy batter that we hoped for.

Very helpful , very friendly staff . We had an order for people with allergies and they went out of the way to be helpful. Good size portions and lovely gluten free fish . Definitely recommended

In Llanrug on holiday & felt very welcome in the fish & chip shop. The food was freshly cooked & they were possibly the best chips ever! Only issue was different opening hours online & on shop window, so we arrived after it had closed one evening.

Best fish and chip shop that I have visited food is great and all cooked fresh on order. Can definitely recommend worth the visit

1st experience was poor but have been 4 times since and it's been very nice. Good tasting chips and beautiful fish. Would give 4 stars really but giving an extra star due to previous unfair scoring.

Went reading the good star rating thought we give it a go .but wont be going back for £15.00 it was 2 very oily cod that took 4 sheets of paper towel to soak it up before eating if we want so hungry we wanted of eaten it dont feel great now I have chips where soggy.

Food is always spot on, service is friendly and polite can't recommend enough, been a godsend thought out lock down.

The fish and chips were good, but the service was even better. Definitely gonna be coming here again in the future 10/10

Not very welcoming to people who aren’t local to the area unfortunately, we had to wait and watch others get their orders long after we had put our order in. Sadly, our portions were dismal despite ordering larger portions of chips, yet mostly consisted of the smaller crunchier chips. None of the employees were wearing hairnets and the man cooking the food had no gloves on when dipping the fish into the batter and didn’t see him wash his hands before handling the sausages. Everyone seemed unsure of the prices as not all items listed on the board. As a tourist I would not recommend but your experience may be much better as long as you live in the area and speak Welsh.

As tourists we felt an unwelcoming environment for a couple of reasons when we entered the shop and as we waited for our food. I kindly told our server that it was a large order for our family and this seemed to be an unwelcome surprise from the expression we received in response. Once our order was placed we waited patiently as we understood there was a lot of food to prepare, but watched numerous locals get served before us during this time. There didn’t seem to be much certainty on what prices were and lots of foods on the menu weren't available which was disappointing. A portion of large chips is very small and not enough to go around as little as 2 people. Overall I was unsatisfied and left feeling like we’d done something wrong due to the hostile atmosphere inside. It will possibly be a different experience if you’re locals but I wouldn’t recommend for those visiting the area sadly.
