Tealicious Tearoom in County Durham

I treated my friend for her birthday to tea here. Absolutely amazing, delicious home made cakes, scones and sandwiches. The atmosphere is really warm and welcoming and well worth a return visit.

A cosy tearoom in a good location. We had a nice lunch and some lovely cake. Particularly recommend the Guinness and chocolate. Visited twice in a 3 day trip.

A lovely place and the host is truly excellent. We really enjoyed our tea, lunch, and the cakes were truly fantastic. I will certainly go again.

It is a very nice and cosy place for a breakfast or afternoon tea. Very family staff and delicious scones and tea. Price is very good too. Definitely recommend it

Tealicious Tearoom in Durham was absolutely Fabulous! I surprised my daughter in law to be and her mom to afternoon tea! Lyndsey was very welcoming, kind and thoughtful! Her cakes were divine! I ordered a family size gluten free afternoon tea for collection to celebrate my birthday. I was over the moon to find a local place that did gluten free afternoon tea options as there arent many and it was very reasonably priced. I was pleasantly surprised to see what it contained because there was more than I expected in perfect portion sizes. It contained sausage roll, mini quiche, finger snadwiches, cheese scone, choc cake and another 3 cake choices with fruit scones, clotted cream and jam. There were also some tea bags. Everything tasted delicious, the only thing I would suggest is having 3 different sandwich fillings as we only had the two with the majority being salmon which people werent that keen on and if you could chose from a selection then that would be great, other than that little point it was amazing and I would definitely recommend people try it esp people who are gluten free.

Went for afternoon tea at a price of £24 each. Sandwiches were 8 tiny fingers, 4 with salmon, 2 beef and 2 cream cheese and cucumber. This was strange after they acknowledged that 1 person didn't like salmon! 4 scones which were tiny and didn't seem fresh. The cakes were really nice, lemon drizzle, lemon tart, chocolate cake and Victoria sponge. The tea was also lovely. It was all served on lovely China, but we had to request napkins. I think it was definitely overpriced and wouldn't go again for afternoon tea. I would however go for tea and cake.

DO NOT GO HERE - DRY DAYS OLD FOOD AND TERRIBLE SERVICE. I can’t believe all the positive reviews on here - they must have been purchased. We came to Durham for the weekend and booked a £48 afternoon tea as a treat. It took 40 mins to arrive and was more or less inedible. One of the finger sandwiches had a weird yellow paste in it that we think may have been mashed potato and the scones were stale, the cake tier was 6 pieces of exactly the same plain cake (tasted like shop bought golden syrup cake) with a couple of different bits of icing on some of them to make them look different from each other. There were also two horrible looking little tartlets filled with grey custard! SERIOUSLY AVOID AT ALL COSTS! A COMPLETE RIP OFF

This tearoom is delightful! And the lady who runs it is too. Great toast, wonderful tea and good coffee too. Definitely worth the trip.

Came on a Sunday morning with my mother and had the loveliest time in this cute, welcoming tea room. We were the first customers of the day and the kind lady took care of us. She was sweet and really easy to talk to and ask for recommendations. We enjoyed a great cream tea and the home made scones were perfection. Would love to visit again if I ever head up north again!

Popped into this lovely tea room today. Enjoyed some lovely home made pea and mint soup and lovely fresh bread, followed by a wonderful choice of home made cakes. Lindsay, the owner and David were really welcoming and amusing. I would definitely recommend this tearoom, well worth a visit.

What a lovely little tea room, lovely people, nice decor and excellent food. We both had lovely sandwiches to start and unusual for me I fancied a cake, the caramel sponge was delicious and my sisters Victoria sponge looked good too

Don’t waste your money, I visited tea delicious with three friends, we ordered sandwiches and tea….service was very slow considering they weren’t busy…. My sandwich was extremely disappointing, the spelt bread was far too thickly cut and the ham slice which had no flavour couldn’t have been cut thinner, we were all very disappointed… the tea was fine but at over £40 it was a real disappointment…. Don’t waste your hard earned money, there must be far better tearooms in Durham….

Lindsay and her culinary skills were epic. She's incredibly friendly and hospitable. Will most certainly be back on our next visit! It's a perfect, quaint tearoom with the best atmosphere and location.

We had read reviews of Tealicious on the Trip Advisor site and were so glad we made a slight detour to walk over Elvet Bridge to find it. It is a delightful little tea room (a few tables downstairs but more upstairs) with a good variety of eats and drinks - in fact 40-something different types of tea I think we were told! Having said that, I don't drink tea(!) and we both chose hot chocolates and toasted tea cakes, all very good indeed. A very enjoyable break on our day trip by train to lovely Durham from York.

My friend and I both had the vegetarian option of afternoon tea. The selection was great and the extensive choice of loose leaf teas were brilliant (plus refillable!). So much choice that we had to take some home. Staff were really friendly also. Will definitely be returning!

Lovely little spot for a cuppa. In my case I had a good coffee, but as you might expect from the name there's lots of different choices of teas on offer. I had the most delicious piece of lemon curd cake, again lots of different options - it was hard to choose! Nice lady working in there and a cute place to while away an hour.

This small exquisite tea room is just a lovely place for a cup of tea in bone China with a selection of delicious homemade cakes to choose from but also some savory choices for lunch. Obviously run with love .

Me and my husband had a wonderful afternoon tea at Tealicious at the beginning of December. He had the vegetarian version and I had the vegan option. Both were lovely. The service was also great and the servers were very welcoming.

We went to Tealicious several times during our week in Durham. The first few times we had delicious toasted teacakes and enjoyed excellent service from a super young man who worked there. On the third and final visit we decided to treat ourselves to the cakes which look universally delicious. I chose a berry loaf cake which was about half used and looked lovely. When it was served to me, they had cut off the other "end" piece of the cake which was disappointing and I don't know why they did it when the cake had already been started - don't you just cut towards the other end until it's used up? I do! Anyway, they did hear my dissatisfaction and offer me a middle piece but I was too embarrassed to say "yes". Also, when it came to pay, the price charged for the miserable, end piece was 30p more than was advertised on the board. I pointed this out anf was told "That's Alison's fault"... I didn't care whose fault it was, but I wasn't paying more than advertised. I wished the young man had been there to serve us that final morning as we thought this place was a complete find but left thinking we had perhaps been mistaken.

Absolutely perfect spot for an early lunch. The food was delicious, super fresh and prepared to perfection. We had sandwiches, soup, bagels and cake among the four of us, plus drinks, all super. Service was extremely friendly and attentive; the people working there obviously really care about their business. Recommend unreservedly and would go back in a shot if we are on Durham again!

We ordered 2 afternoon teas and savoury platter to be delivered after temporary closier of the tea room had been announced.Ordering as usual is simple, received confirmation of order immediately, and delivery time and date the evening before from courier.The order was delivered on time, by a very polite lady without any problems, everything correct.We have ordered before with Tealicious and have visited the Tea rooms. Tealicious food is not just food as the M&S advert says, it is wonderful, the very best of home cooked Cakes, scones, and the best pork pies I have ever tasted, you have just got to experience the delights. Would recommend anytime, hope the Tearooms opens soon.

We discovered Tealicious on a trip to Durham in 2017 and I've been wanting to go back ever since, so when my husband took me to Durham this weekend for my birthday I was delighted that he'd booked us in for Afternoon tea! It came with a good range of sandwiches, two scones (the cheese one was particularly delicious!) and 4 lovely little cakes each. I had the house blend tea which was so nice I bought some to take home. The staff are really friendly and chatty, and it was all perfectly Covid secure. So I'd definitely recommend a visit for their delicious cake to eat in or take away. If I lived in Durham I'd be there at least once a week - small businesses like this need our support at the moment, and Tealicious definitely deserves it!

Good selection of hot and cold drinks are available here. The staff are really nice and good at recommending things from the menu should you need help deciding. The tea is served in real china cups which is a nice touch. Cakes tasted fresh and delicious.

It is the only tea room that we visited while in Durham but we struggle to think of a better cafe that we have been to anywhere in England. Friendly, with strong adherence to anti-COVID procedures. We very much enjoyed the cheese scones with a cup of soup. Nice cups of tea, lots of choice.

Popped in today hoping for afternoon tea but you need to book for this so we opted for high tea. Only a choice of two sandwiches but they were very nice. Lovely scones with jam & cream and a choice of cake. I had to take cake home as was full from sandwiches and large scone. Definitely worth a visit.

A lovely cosy cafe with beautiful decor, tea and coffee in proper china cups and heavenly cakes and scones. The staff were friendly and the Victoria Sponge was heavenly. Will definitely be back.

We hadn’t booked but they managed to fit us in during a busy day. The tearoom is COVID secure and the staff were very friendly. The cheese scones were delicious and we also had the Malteser slice which was also very nice. I would fully recommend this little gem.

Durham is full of lovely cafes and coffee shops but this one is amazing. Called in on saturday just by chance. Social distancing and sanatizer being used. Tables well spread out as much as you can with the size of the cafe. (Although there is an upstairs) the cafe closes at 4pm and it still had a few people wanting to be in. In 15minutes the lady had to turn away 13 potential customer. Its a very popular place. The greeting was very welcoming and even though they were closing shortly we were never rushed. The food was very tasty. We had cheese sandwiches, cheese scone and chocolate cake with coffee. We will definitely be back soon.

We visited Tealicious this afternoon and what an absolutely delightful experience!We precooked this morning and they even offered to save us a fruit scone for when we arrived. We had the miners tea which is a house blend and the best cup of tea we’ve had in ages. We opted for red lentil and tomato soup which was full of flavour, homemade pork pie and ham and pease pudding sandwiches went well together, finishing off with the perfect fruit scone which was lovely and soft, with jam and clotted cream. Such a lovely afternoon tea in a very safe and controlled setting. We even came away with a variety of 5 bags of tea to try at home. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this tearoom! We've been here a few times before and have always been impressed, but this was our first time for their afternoon tea. It was quite simply great (made even better by the fact we got it 50% off due to the gov scheme). We got a selection of sandwiches, cheese scones, fruit scones (with jam and cream), carrot cake, lemon cake, mixed fruit tart and cookie/brownie. That was accompanied by unlimited tea from their big selection and a Fentimans (as I don't like tea! :O) The whole selection was fantastic and everything tasted great. There was so much I had to take a few of the items home. The staff were very nice and attentive even though it was busy. Super friendly place and good atmosphere. I liked the fake cake displays in the window too. Very good experience, would definitely recommend.

Had a delicious lunch at Tealicious. The tomato, lentil and chickpea soup was great with a cheese scone. Also enjoyed the treacle, ginger and lime cake. Wide selection off proper leaf tea, pretty china and friendly staff. Would definitely visit again.

This was a stop in between shoe shopping and walking and was a real treat. The earl grey tea was wonderful along with a good choice of cakes. Even if you don't fancy a cake you have to indulge as they look and taste so good. Can recommend the forest gateaux cake and vanilla slice.

This was the first place in Durham we tried for food and drink and were not disappointing. The soup and sandwiches we had were very tasty. Also the lemon and ginger tea used loose products rather than from bags. The best of all at the end was the cakes which were delicious. The service was also excellent A great start to our stay .

Visited today for afternoon tea. Wow, I can honestly say it's the best afternoon tea we have had.The sandwiches were lovely, and very fresh. Two small scones each, one cheese and one fruit. The cheese scone was just wonderful!The cake selection was so pretty and such wonderful flavours.So many teas to choose from, I can recommend the Jasmine Blossom.Service was very great, the cafe was very busy but staff were attentive and friendly.Cant recommend enough. This is a lovely tea shop and the homemade cakes are just excellent. Their afternoon tea is superb. When I booked for one nut free and one veggie they were so happy to oblige. Both were amazing. If you like tea and cake then this is the place to go. Their coffee is good too!!

A warm welcome at this quaint tearoom, not a tea lover myself but the range of teas available here was impressive. Afternoon tea was a little pricey but well worth it, delicious sandwiches, cheese, cucumber, ham and egg, fruit and cheese scones and 4 different cakes each!Would recomend for an extra special treat.

Visted today to a small cute tea room. Serivce was quick and the high tea for one was very filling. The cakes and scorns were fresh and tasty the sandwiches were nice too.

From the moment the four of us walked into this tearoom we knew we had made the right choice. We were greeted warmly by all staff and we had the nicest afternoon tea, beautiful sandwiches, scones and homemade cakes. The tea selection wonderful and we all agreed the Minners Brew was a great cup of tea. Thank you to all who work in this lovely little cafe so friendly, smiley and welcoming.

This is a really lovely tea shop / cafe. Served traditionally with China cups loose tea tea strainers etc. Propper!!

We were visiting Durham for the first time and had read reviews for this place and thought we would call in for tea and scones. They were delicious and there is so many different teas to chose from, would recommend.

Visited with friends for the 1st time, but it certainly won’t be the last time! It was wonderful. Very pretty/quaint and lovely old fashioned crockery (just like grandma had). Home made food and cakes were top notch and the Quality produce was evident. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Are gem of a find. Thank you!

If your perception is of tearooms being stuffy and you don't like that this is the place for you. I don't like cake so I avoid tearooms but one of my friends was adamant that we would go here and so three of us trooped in. I don't think I have ever had a more rapturous response. The head lady was bliss, the other customers talked to my friend because she always involves everybody. We had a wonderful couple of hours there. Because it's small everybody can hear you so perhaps apologies to the few who thought we were taking over but we got to talk to a gorgeous baby and her parents, a couple from Leicestershire and the waitress. What a lovely atmosphere.

We entered the tea rooms at 1:30 and we got straight sat down and served. The food wasn’t long and you could get a range of different drinks. When the food came it looked delicious. The waitress who brought it for us she was kind friendly and was brilliant at serving us. Once we ate our afternoon tea we loved it, it was lovely and yummy . We had a great experience at tealicious it was fantastic.

Came here today for Afternoon Tea, 3 adults & 1 child. We were seated upstairs in a window seat with a great view of the street below. Our servers were so lovely, welcoming, informative & friendly. The Afternoon Tea was to die for! I would go as far as saying it’s probably the best I’ve had. Everything was homemade, sandwiches, scones & cakes; all were truly scrumptious. We were celebrating two birthdays so decided to have a bottle of prosecco too. You have to book 48 hours in advance if you want the Afternoon tea as they have it all ready for you when you arrive which is great. Please give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
