The most stressful lunch I've ever had. The strangest afternoon tea (contrary to the pictures here, consisted of 3 buns; BLT, Cheese and pickle, tuna, with a silly amount of cake + a "cheese" (plain) and fruit scone, with a pot of tea (no choice) for 2). Absolutely no understanding of how to deliver a service... Didn't even get a plate until we'd finished our sandwiches! Doors slammed constantly, staff screaming after each other. The list goes on but I don't have forever to write them all up. No idea where all the positive reviews are from because this was not an experience I want a repeat of. Also, btw, streaming Spotify is not legal in a business establishment, with or without ads, this is clearly outlined in their terms and conditions.

Really nice venue, staff were very polite and friendly, really good offer to include pony ride with kids meals on a Tuesday and the little park outside was good for the kids however the food was not great the loaded fries was caked in grease and felt more like a block of cheese on chips, the kids hit dogs we expected a hot dog in a bun however 4 hotdogs that appeared to have been microwaved turned up with no bun on the plate and the chips came wet for the kids meal from the peas not being drained properly, would go back to ride the pony's and have a warm drink due to the friendly staff and pleasant environment however personally I would not be getting the food again

Sadly too long wait and even though it's meant to be dog friendly i didn't agree as my dog couldn't go in the shed like inside area for a second so i could get a menu. I also found a small Caesar salad £14 highly expensive, and didn't even get the parma ham that comes with it and no explanation until i asked, and no discount. Sorry but i won't be coming back

Booked afternoon tea the day before. Wasn’t asked anything about my likes or dislikes, but I did point out my son was fussy. Arrived at the venue and a lovely lass sat us down and took our drinks order. It’s worth pointing out that you can only have afternoon tea if you book 24hrs in advance. Afternoon tea consists of a selection of sandwiches, which had the loveliest fillings (salmon, ham, tuna and cheese savoury were ours), a selection of cakes and meringues (biscoff cheesecake was lovely), and tea (I opted for wine and paid extra, rightly so). Lovely surroundings. Lovely attentive staff (don’t know the name of the lass but she was in her 20s, blonde hair & nose ring). If I had a gripe, it would be that the chairs just look shabby. They look awful and rusty, and the pads on the odd one of them look stained. Overall, lovely venue, lovely staff, decent prices. Will return.

Extremely slow service (45 mins for starters, further 50 mins for mains) - with a toddler this wasn't good. In fact people were ordering and receiving food whilst we looked on. The menu was half the size we had expected from checking online and then many items unavailable e.g. duck, pulled pork (this was 12pm on a Saturday). Starters were lovely, but mains not so - baked potato was obviously microwaved as it had pale, wet skin; the wrap was poorly filled and presented (this had been ordered on a previous visit and was miles apart in quality). Mains arrived without cutlery too which took a few minutes to be brought over - by this point we were picking at it with fingers due to the delays. The kitchen did look completely manic, despite tables only being about half full. I won't be a returning customer unfortunately.

Decided to give The Black Bull a second chance after having dinner there myself in early June, which was an up and down experience. I had the soup for starters that had so much pepper in it, it would have blew a normal persons head off! I quite like pepper so just managed it ok. The main course arrive and was luke warm, I ate it anyway, but when I was asked if everything was satisfactory, I let the staff member know the food tasted ok, but the temperature wasn’t hot enough. He said that it was a new chef who had only started that week as the old chef had retired, and a few other diners had also made the same complaint, so when I went to pay the bill he knocked the price of the main course off it, which I thought was a fair outcome. During a friendly chat with him before leaving, I said I’d be returning to the area for my family summer break in a few weeks’ time, and he told me that the Sunday roast dinners were fantastic and the old chef would be returning on a Sunday to cook these. I was told to book in advance, as it is was always too busy to just walk in and get a table. So I took onboard the advice and a few weeks later I decided to book a table for the seven of us. We arrived for dinner late afternoon on the Sunday and our table was reserved as expected, staff were nice and friendly and the pub wasn’t that busy, with only another three or four small tables having food. Our orders were duly taken and starters arrived reasonably quickly and everyone enjoyed them. Unfortunately the mains were not as quick, and we had quite a long wait. To make things worse, all the plates of food arrived luke warm, definitely not hot as they should have been. All five adults chose from the Sunday roast menu options with four of us choosing the "Sirloin of Beef" option. The sirloin that was served was not of the greatest quality, and although advertised as being served “pink”, was undercooked and very, very rare, to make this worse, all four pieces of meat were full of gristle and fat, and for most of us, large pieces of it were inedible. We were also put off with the “creamy mash”, which was a strange grey colour, and did not taste good. Also the plate of vegetables that was laid on the table for us all to share was embarrassingly insufficient to satisfy 5 adults, we actually thought the portion was for two to share, and couldn’t believe it when no more arrived. Once we had all finished the meal, we noticed the chef had came out from the kitchen, possibly for a break This was definitely a younger person, and definitely not someone old enough to retire. After a second poor experience in just a few weeks, I will unfortunately not be returning the The Black Bull in Etal village again, and unless the situation changes drastically for the better, I wouldn’t recommend the pub for anyone who is expecting hot food or a quality dining experience.

We found this place by accident whilst trying to find somewhere to eat after visiting Alnwick Gardens on a Sunday lunchtime. The inside was quite dark (maybe a bit gloomy?) But we were hungry so decided to give it a go. We found a table easily as it was just after 12 and ordered 2 drinks and 2 roast dinners. The Guinness was good so my Husband was happy. Then we had one Cumberland and one gammon roast, both were hot and tasty and reasonable price. Overall very happy with the food and the service (just didn't like all the black paint everywhere!)

Was feeling really hungry, so went to the fox cover for a carvery. Upon arrival, I was met with what looked like Alton Towers from Temu. After scouring the local industrial estate for a car parking space, I finally found one in the local garden centre. if I wasn't already hungry I would have been after the marathon I had to walk back to the pub. After re-entering the carpark, I was again met with said fair ground I mentioned previously. After multiple attempts at trying to win a goldfish, my attention was brought to a fortune teller. After much debate, she came to the end conclusion that hunger was amidst. I was flabbergasted at her accuracy so asked her for the later lottery numbers! After the fortune teller, I had myself a go on the Waltzer- I forgot how this ride can be and made me terribly sick. I got off the ride and unfortunately was too ill for my carvery. I once again got my map and compass out to re-locate my car and ended up going home, with no goldfish, no lottery numbers and no dinner :(
