Tawa Indian Buffet in Newport

I used to live in Newport and I went here every weekend and man the food was the best the chef was nice and so was the staff I really enjoyed it and I hope next time I go newport I'll go there again

One of the Worst Indian restaurants in Newport. Was ill after eating there. Now i read it has been shut down on health rusk grounds as rat droppings and gnawed food found !!!!....and yey restaurant says it has closed temporarily "due to unforeseen circumstances"!!! If they didnt forsee a rat infestation in the kitchen as a health risk to us as customers then they dont deserve to operate as a restaurant so should be permanently shut down to save us all from serious illness or even loss of life !!!!!

I ordered food from here in their website about an hour and a half ago and still nowhere to be seen and the restaurant haven’t answered any of my phone calls but we’re happy to take my money, terrible service

Had a delivery order that was mostly bland and dry. It was edible but not up to expectations.

Average food and a little over priced for what it is. Good place to go as a group or party.

My partner and I visited for the first time yesterday for Sunday lunch. We weren't expecting much as it was a very reasonable price. As soon as we walked in the staff were so polite and friendly. The food was phenomenonal. Genuinely the nicest indian food we've had in the UK. We are used to authentic Indian food from when we lived abroad, and the taste here was the closest we've tried. The curries were tasty with huge chunks of chicken, the appetizers were fresh and the ice cream machine was the perfect end. Really reasonable drink prices too, and lovely mocktails. We will definitely be back!

We used to love treating ourselves to this Indian on way back from Western super mare,but sorry to say didn't think much of the flavour of the korma ,tikka ,or the lamb .there was a distinctive taste of ideal milk in the korma ,to much tomato taste in the tikka and the lamb had no taste.very bland sorry to say,but it's nice to have hot plates . So for that and price of inflation I'm sorry but we will not be back. I hope you get the flavours back in your food ,and I wish you all the best.

The food was incredible, I will be going back. The staff. Oh the staff. You won't find kinder, more helpful, knowledgeable people. Please visit, such a clean, comfortable place, such a range of delicious food that even the fussest of eaters will be able find something.

Definitely the worst Indian restaurant we had ever tried! It was just disgusted since the welcome. Wish I knew the name of that man who was super arrogant and greedily tried charging us £20pp when we arrived before 4pm since he confirmed it was £15 pp before 4pm. But when he went their he decided to change his word. Just don’t understand how he could do that. And the food was the worst! Too much oil and colour. We know how authentic Indian taste like but this food was just tasteless. Like we just regretted being there. All of us regretted! We didn’t eat much though it was buffet since food was just bland! There was a range of curries but non tasted good. The desert selection was just too bad. Nothing was Indian anyway. Would never go there again!

More expensive than my last visit, several years ago, but the food hasn't improved enough to warrant the extra cost, I had one meal and some desserts which came to £20. Not enough vegetarian options, only two currys, the rice and naan, well, I could do better. The desserts were nice.

Very low veggie options, but ambience is reasonable.. However, prices are VERY VERY VERY HIGH! £17 per ADULT AND £9 PER CHILD!

Alan made us very welcome even let me try a bit of cobra beer to see if I liked it, I did . I'm not a real lover of curry but I tried a bit of everything (and there's a lot to try) and liked most of it. The music they played was very good. Overall a very good and enjoyable experience.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon. A nice time to go about 8 other tables occupied. Food had plenty of options and was kept hot and fresh. Selection of starter. 4 rice dishes, over 10 curries, beef, chicken, lamb and vegetables. Salads, sauces and chutneys. Mint sauce 👌 😋. Choice of 3 Naan breads and poppadoms. Desserts was selection of cakes with cream or whippy machine icecream with sauces and sprinkles. £15.95 all you can eat. Highly recommended

Great all you can eat buffet, service could be a little better but the prices are very reasonable

The food is amazing and gawjus. The service is superb and polite. The venue has ample parking. The seats and tables are comfortable and clean. The choice of food and drink is huge and perfect. The price of a visit is well worth it, considering the quality of the food on offer. My favourite is the lamb, although everything else is so tasty too. My partners favourite is the chicken korma and mint sauce and poppadoms and we both love the naans, especially the coconut one. As if that's not enough, the ice cream is awesome and sauces and sprinkle, too. Jellies, red velvet cak, and other treats always delightful. We had the good fortune of talking with Alan, the lovely guy in charge, and he was so nice and friendly and polite. He couldn't do enough for , s and after two visits in less than a month, we will definitely be returning. Please give the Tawa a try. I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. I visited this delightful restaurant this week with my father, who has just turned 99. The food there is absolutely delicious, and everything is freshly made. I have not tasted a better lamb curry even in London at three times the price. The aubergine dish was memorable, too. Service was exceptional....special shout-out to ALAN, who turned our buffet lunch into a truly special occasion. Next time I visit my old home town, I will eat here again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 🌹

My son took me for a Father's Day lunch and it was excellent. Great service, great food, well stocked, very clean as someone was going round all the time cleaning up after mucky people. Very much improved since we visited before in February so 5 stars from us!

Pleasantly surprised to find an establishment such as this with a 5 star hygiene rating. . On entering we were not disappointed. The welcome from Alan the manager was genuinely warm and we felt reassured when he asked if we had any allergies. The place was clean and kept clean regularly. The food was hot, fresh and consistently topped up. Good quality and tasty. Will definitely return and recommend to friends

I had a curry on the 2 good to go app from tawa. I had a curry with rice samosas and pakora. Was only £5 and really nice. Will be back again

Had lunch here today. The staff were very friendly. Large choice of food. Some other buffet restaurants offer a reduced menu lunchtimes. Food was fresh, hot and tasty.

Had I checked price before hand I wouldn't have booked, last time we went it was £15pp now £23pp, that's a big increase, its not fine dining or a plush restaurant, at the end of the day it's a help yourself buffet, meals for 4 and 2 drinks each £140, can go to a restaurant with nice surroundings and be waited on for less than than that, sorry won't be returning !

honestly used to be a great place but ever since it changed into tawa it’s gone completely downhill. especially with the new management and the prices are ridiculous every restaurant/ buffet charges a bit more but not £6-£7 extra. at least if ur gonna charge that much make sure ur not serving gone off cakes and mediocre food.

It's not Indian all mostly all main Course are sweet in taste. Lots of colours in food just to make them look red to get attraction. Expensive according to quality it's clearly not Indian chef and staff are not Indian as well. All Indian famous places pictures are hanging on the wall to make it look like indian. Taste is not even near to the indian taste. Just misleading people with advertising indian food.

Up from £9.99 on Sunday lunch to £15.99. Not such a good deal now.

Worst food I have ever had all went in bin

We loved it here have been so many times however it used to be £12.95 - 14.95 pp which is why we loved it, went to go there recently and seen online it 22.99 pp? So we turned around.. completely understand inflation but to increase it this much? It’s not in line with inflation at all. Sorry but we can’t justify paying it anymore which is really gutting as it was our favourite place and the staff here are lovely too!

Fantastic resturant great service and food!

Friends had been regulars but they said there had been a price hike to £22.95 per person no matter if you wanted something tiny. There is no option for a small amount it will cost you the full £23. Staff were friendly, food was average not worth £23 a person and a take away box was a further £7. Puddings were tiny pieces of cut up cake nothing special and a bit dry. Would not recommend this place at all not at that price. Felt well and truly stung.

Ok so I got stung here. I didn't realize how expensive it would be on a Sunday night. For 2 adults and 2 kids. Plus 4 drinks. £80+ very disappointed. The food was fine in my opinion. I had no issues with staff. Very present and helpful. Hygiene to me looked good. Just the price. If we had been greedy and ate a load of food I would understand but my 2 girls are 2 puddings and a few chips. I will return again but not on a Sunday. Be aware.

I don't often review but thought this place needed it! We eat here on a Saturday evening thinking it would be a great time for fresh food well we though completely wrong! Everything except the curry was freezing cold! When the manger approached us we expressed how we felt he went onto tell us we have to dig to the bottom 👀 which obviously anyone who's been to a buffet will give things a stir before platting the food but wow! He went on to give everything a stir himself and then approached us again and I explained the chips tasted like they had been there a few days rather than hours he offered to cook fresh but for £25pp why arnt there fresh chips there anyway after this complaint he left the chips there. He continued to walk around the restaurant and tell others to unsure they were digging to the bottom 😭 how is this okay? The kids eat hardly anything but were 10pp which would be fine if we all enjoyed our food but in all honesty it was disgusting. How this place has a 5 star hygiene rating I have absolutely no idea I belive they must have payed someone to have got this.The toilets were the most disgusting toilets I have ever used! No soap no sanitizer near the buffet overall I wish we had saved £80 and gone to mcdonalds atleast we would have got what we payed for because compared to tiffins up cwbran this place is terrible. Not even a free drink offered honestly fuming at myself for paying after the food we eat.

We visit this buffet restaurant quite regularly and the service, food and general feel of the restaurant is fab. Definitely recommend.

We came here on the way back from a holiday in the north of wales, being from the south coast of England theres a lot of takeaways to choose from. However, I can honestly say I’ve never had such a good experience in a Indian restaurant before! The food and choice was amazing, staff are very attentive and being a vegetarian there was a good amount of meat free options for me and a nice pick for my boyfriend who’s a meat eater!! The price for a weekend was what I expected but you’d pay £60 for that much food from a takeaway down south so the price is worth it! I believe Aian was our sever and he made us feel very welcome and was very attentive! The only thing wrong with the place was that it’s 170miles away from where we live! Would recommend to anyone!

This place has gone downhill so badly since being taken over by new management. The prices have shot up, at £53 for 2 people, which is so much more expensive than other local all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants. £7 increase per person is ridiculous. Prices are no longer displayed on the window/outside of the restaurant so you think it's still a reasonable price...but when you sit down and have already ordered drinks, you glance at the menu and it's an offensive £22.95 each. The food has gotten worse and the service is shocking - no one asking how the food was and they didn't even bother clearing our plates between buffet visits. Stale naan breads as other reviewers have said and rock-hard onion bahjis. Trying to get a response from the management for a refund is like trying to get blood out of a stone.

What happened? Is this under new management? The price has shot up to £22.95 per person on the weekend?! The price board has been removed from the front window too - definitely wouldn't have gone in if we'd have known. The food hasn't improved despite the price increase, and there seems to be less options. Where are the spicy chips? Where is the dessert variety? Very disappointed as we used to frequent here and have previously rated it 5*

After a long time customer previously it was stunning but aftery experience this time I would give 0 stars food was lacking in flavour nann bread was burnt and rock hard and over priced soft drinks spoke to Manager to give my opinion and he just argued with me saying it can't be that bad we are busy all the time but as I explained to him it's has gone down hill since the last time we visited the staff have hardly any people skills and music is way to loud very hard to have a conversation to the person opposite. Total waste of 71.00 that's for 2 adults 1 child 10 yrs old 3 bottles of coke and charging full price for a child aged 10 as there policy is 7 years old for child's price. I will not be a returning customer after over 3 years of eating at this establishment.

Prive online differed to price in stall was overcharged 13 pounds due to the website not being updated food was not the best the manager did refund the 13 pounds the next day ohh and my drinks glass tasted like soap.

Went there for a lunch buffet on Saturday afternoon at around 12:30. Not many vegetarian curry options and all of the food was bland. Not really authentic Indian food. The food was lukewarm and the dessert options were sad. The samosas were stale and we found a hair in a piece of garlic naan. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The building said tiffins outside but they served no tiffins.

Everything we ordered arrived barely warm. Hardly any meat, just some shreds (or should I say flakes) of chicken which they tried to disguise with an abundance of mushrooms. It was just cold and oily. Delivery was late. Mint sauce was like green water. Waiting on a refund through just eat. Everyone's food went in the bin. Wouldn't order from here again and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. No apology from the restaurant when I contacted them.

I love coming here! The staff are really really great!!! So I have to say that the starters are my favourite! Usually on unlimited food places the starters are vegetarian based? Here, there’s chicken pakora!!! Also the salad is fresh and cold… I love the dressings as well… mint and onions… really lovely.. x x. All the curry’s for main course taste different.. it’s not like they’re all the same just a bit spicier than each other.. they are genuinely unique and tasty… my friend David and I came in early .. and spent time eating and felt relaxed. The ice cream machine is great … i had a bowl with blue sauce … felt like a child again! We paid the bill (with Ash) and it was value for money (especially these days!) Thanks 🙏 guys! Went there on Dec 3 The food was cold ie the samosa Tandoori chicken was also cold and hard The curry was good but got 2 jellies out of the fridge a red and yellow one, the yellow 1 was full of mould although they took out all the yellow jellies they left the red ones there ,our bill for 2 seniors was £35 definitely not value for money We won't be going there again

Tawa I wouldn’t go anywhere else for curry it’s absolutely amazing all these bad reviews about a broken toilet seat is very strange and cutlery! The FOOD is very good and you get a lot for what you pay for some of the reviews on here are out of order that I have read the one- two star review just seems like a negative Nelly that has had a bad day to be honest don’t take it out on company take it out on your baby daddy or wife 😂👏

Good value for money as you can eat as much as you like. I thought the starters were very good but the mains, curries, were not so good. They were a little bland but adequate. The rice, poppadoms, chips etc. were all good too. The service was very good and it was busy here on a Sunday lunch time so there was a good atmosphere.

Everyone loves a buffet and this places does it right. Great food, great price qnd great service

First off I was fully aware of the cost off this buffet and fully aware that this wouldn't be any fine dining. In that regard I was correct and the food was as expected. A bit bland. That said there was a decent range off curries to choose from including your usual sides. Staff were friendly and attentive. What really knocked the the stats down was cleanliness and hygiene. Upon taking a jelly from the fridge one I could see there was mold on top of the jelly. They clearly don't have any use by date system in place as this must have been I'm the fridge a good while. Secondly. Using the toilets I noticed a damaged seat with sharp plastic. Other reviews also mention this. Thirdly upon turning around in the toilet I noticed a lot of toilet roll had been thrown all over the wall above the door. Easy to notice and it had clearly been there for a long time. Any decent restaurants that values cleanliness would remove it. This may explain yhe 2 star council rating. Cleanliness and hygiene isn't hard.

So after visiting numerous times over the past few years, I think Tawa has changed owners now, as the past 2 times I've been in- In June and Now October, I've found the service has been really poor compared to the lovely last owners. The new staff aren't friendly at all, drinks take ages to come, no one is overly smiley or happy and the tables aren't even set up with cutlery anymore. I thought this was a one off when I came in June but after the same today, we won't be back. Plus some of the chairs in the booths need a really good deep clean, they're very stained.

Really lovely food and staff, Have an allergy and the staff bought me an allergens list to my table. Customer Service was second to none as a visitor to Wales this really made my trip!!! They should definitely open one in London. Would visit again if ever in the area!!!

My wife and I have been going here for a number of years before and after the pandemic. The food and choices of different meals are absolutely stunning,the staff are exceptional and give an excellent service,nothing is to much trouble for them. I would personally recommend this Indian cuisine to anyone. 10/10🙂👍

I visited with my friends for the evening buffet. I’m so sorry to say the food was awful. No authenticity at all, no flavour, no spices to give that flavour. 90% of the curries were just greasy/oily. I’ve been to many Indian restaurants and compared them the quality was so poor. As an example I had biriyani, it was just rice, colour and chicken only. I can make a biriyani better than that. Buy a pack of biriyani-mix from Asda or Tesco and try it cheff. It’ll have a lot more flavour than yours.

This place was good when it was Tiffin's now it absolutely dreadful. Went in at around 8pm there was not a huge choice, what was there was luke warm and had a nice skin on it. Everything was over sweet with very little spicing. Puddings where pitiful and I'm being nice. Also don't think they warrant the level 2 hygiene rating they have, the toilets looked like something from a 3rd world country. Avoid and save your money!

Indian food renound for spices and flavour, just bland central.

The food was amazing but there was no air conditioning at all and the temperature was 35 degrees . Staff dressed in inappropriate clothing as it was far to hot inside , apparently the air conditioners has been broken for more than a week . It is most unreasonable to expect both staff and customer to be able to endure this kind of heat in your building .

On this occasion, not the best visit. On arrival, shown to our table. Offered papadums,asked if we would like drinks, ordered two soft drinks, one a Coke, arrived in the bottle, no glass or straw. Had to ask for a glass. Ordered more drinks, which never arrived. The premises were very quiet, so not rushed off their feet. We presume that the server was new................x
