J J's Fish Bar and Chinese take-away (delivery available) in Newport

Today I ordered Singapore Chow main with no pork and little spice, when I got home the food had no flavour whatsoever and was very oily. I was extremely disappointed as I had ordered the exact some order from this place just over a week ago and it was really nice but my partner had a box meal with sweet and sour sauce but when arrived home to discover the box meal had no sauce. Today there was a female staff behind the counter with a terrible attitude. Then when called up to complain about the Singapore chow main she started arguing with me.

You know when it says on the website they shut at 10 and so you go there at 9:30 and they ignore you tapped the window and a blonde lady flips you off, classic

Just had the worst Chinese take away I have ever bought!! Absolutely terrible. Cold / Luke warm food and glutinous awful sauces. Stay away for the sake of your health!

Normally really lovely food and service, today it was cold when I got it home, chicken balls had raw dough, chicken in the satay was freezing and the sauce lukewarm warm very disappointed

Just bought a takeaway. When I got home and opened the chips they were disgusting and inedible. They look as if they have been there for a week and warmed up everyday. Shame on you JJs when takeaways are not cheap. Theses chips belong in the bin

Lovely staff & quick service. However, chips were tasteless and to me seemed as though they had been reheated & very greasy.

Fish and chips supper after evening run. OK, but not the best. Linked to Chinese takeaway, so may try Chinese next time.

Amazing staff and nice atmosphere

Called in one night for some chips, it was a little late but when I got home and opened them, we cudnt eat them!! They must have been about 3 weeks old. They were rock solid, vile and I’m never going there again! £6.60 for nothin!

Very warm restaurant. Very good and tasty food in quantity. Perfect service. Just a little noisy.

Food is really good as always. But pick up food tonight had some bad aptitude from some elderly lady serving, as I didn't know the order as my wife ordered it and I was paying cash so I didn't see the problem not a lady for public relations. But still the best takeaway

Had my first Chinese takeaway from here. 3 of us had various dishes, all still hot and tasty! Didn't have to wait long for our order, pleasant staff. I will be going back and would recommend them.

Popped in quickly on my late break in work. Never been before so didn'tknow what to expect. Food was boiling hot and the best chip shop meal I have had in ages. Staff were all friendly and seemed to work well as a team. I was in and out in less than 4 mins. Will make this my regular chippy on my way home from work.

Great Chinese food, excellent service

Food was ok! Standard chip shop food, though limited choice. The reason I have given three stars is because the lady behind the counter was very rude. I ordered curry sauce and chips and a battered sausage and the lady started serving four portions of chips in trays. I’m not sure how she heard four portions?? When I asked her why she was preparing 4 meals, she said this is what I ordered. She quickly slopped everything into one tray and slammed it on the counter. I wouldn’t normally write a review under these circumstances, but she treated me like a drunk straight out of the pub when this wasn’t the case. The food was slopped up open with a fork stabbed in it. Not ideal to drive home with.

Great meal! Definitely getting better. New menu items appearing, very nice. Reasonably priced too

I remember this place being the China garden with Pete in charge as I use to work here. The food was always made fresh and it always tasted great no matter if you had an English dish or Chinese.

Long day at work couldn't be bothered to cook, so Sausage chips and curry sauce it was 😋😋😋😋

Excellent portion of Salt and Chilli chips, great value and service, would recommend. Can't fault other than say the menu isn't as big as other Chinese. But what they do, they do well.

Ordered chicken chow mein,egg fried rice and Kung PO chicken and a curry sauce. The most tasteless Chinese I have ever eaten. The Kung po chicken was nothing like any Kung po chicken I have ever had before , anaemic looking ,with cashew nuts . It’s normally bright red in colour. Also ordered prawn crackers and they were not in order. Very disappointing as spent £17 . Will be ringing to complain as well.

Old school chip shop with a Chinese in it😍. Chips are the best I've had in years and the Chinese is very nice too.

Had the fish and chips. Chips not quite as good as what we get up North and the fish still had the skin on one side beneath the batter which i've never seen before and didn't particularly enjoy, but the lady who served us was a joy. She should get 5 stars on her own!

Best fish and chips I’ve had for a long time - l live in Usk but luckily drive through Caerleon on my way home from work, so plan to pop in often x

Just had fish and chips from this establishment they were the worst I have had in this country, believe me I have traveled around. The fish and the chips were soaked in oil enough to ooze out as the fork entered the batter. The chips were a sodden matter laid under the fish. Trust me disgusting do not use this place

Chips were greasy as greasy gets. And the fish was hard. Sounds bizarre , how can a battered cooked fish be hard right ?? I'm sat here still hungry asking myself the same question. ?? I'm pretty easy going and don't really complain but this was bad. And I leave this review only in the hope that this issue doesn't happen to the next paying customer. Sort it out guys . It was rank.

Lovely location, nice staff excellent layout due to covid19 . We had curry fish and chips and curry is excellent as was the fish.

Lovely fresh food, I travel from the city center and it's well worth it.

Beautifully clean, polite staff and no smell of lurking oil. We only tried the fried rice and it was lovely and fresh tasting, the price was nice too 🙂

What happend to this place haven't been for a while never again soggy batter old fat most went in the bin don't know what the Chinese is like should be one or the other no one does both well

Came from Yorkshire visiting family, this Chinese is as gods as it was 5 years ago. Best in Newport well done

Great staff here, and good food! Always come here over anywhere else for fish and chips. It's super handy that they also do Chinese so you can mix it up when you want to. Parking can be a pain, but generally work it out by using the parking by the green area

Seriously the best place to get chips in the area. They are closed Monday's.
