Attend the Wednesday night quiz. What I liked: the refurbished venue is great, nice fresh environment. Great selection of beers. The quiz was good with a great turn out. Free bowl of chips.

Everything was great, however I’ve deducted one star as the menu on the table seems quite vague. Burgers don’t mention whether they come with fries/onion rings etc when they did and there are no dessert menus on the tables.

Having just moved to the area, was keen to visit my new local. Fabulous place. Really nice decor, friendly staff and great food. Will definitely be becoming a regular.

We went to this pub-restaurant, it is located about 20 minutes walking along the coast, very pleasant walk, enjoying a very nice afternoon. The place is very spacious, next to a, less nice, garage. Inside it is nice and spacious. The service is good, but they don't come to the table, you have to place the order at the bar. It has a variety of liquors and beers, but only 3 or 4 types of cocktails. The food menu is varied, but unfortunately that day they don't have steak. Food well presented and large portions, good prices.

We only had a bottle of wine . We will return

Paid a deposit to book a table, when we arrived it was a reduced menu plus items also out of stock off the reduced menu, the manager agreed to process a refund but I never received it, now they are saying I can’t have a refund, why would a company do that, no one wants to resolve the issue just leaving it to the staff to pass messages on, I even went back in to check it was processed & again confirmed it was, do not believe a word this company says a terrible & disgusting way to run a business, I don’t live anywhere near to go back in either, worst company I have ever dealt with

Shocking tough roast beef cold roast potatoes and vegetables. Had beef replaced with chicken again cold roast potatoes and vegetables. What a disgrace for a beautiful restaurant in prime position on sea front.

Really good food, delicious and lots of choice. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. I only gave 4 stars for atmosphere because at times it was quite noisy as the rooms are big and a bit echoey. Will definitely be back though.

Just had 3 meals which were OK. When they had been delivered to the table, neither one of the 2 waitresses offered any salt, vinegar or sauces, I had to get up and ask for them myself. Neither did they return to ask if everything was OK with our meals, as is usually the case with all other restaurants we have visited. The 2 eggs on my gammon were overcooked and very crispy with solid yolks which was disappointing, although my 15 year old son polished them off. Once we'd finished and a waiter came over to clear the table, he also didn't ask us if everything was OK. Not a bad experience but the service could have been better.... runny eggs next time please!

Staff could do with some supervision and guidance from management. Sorry to leave this negative review but the people in our company were disappointed with the lack of organisation and attention customer service

Just popped in for a drink ...... intending to go in again for some food which looked really nice.

Ordered scampi and chips and fish and chips, Sent meals back because we ordered triple cooked chips , manger came over with meals and said they were triple cooked chips, they clearly were NOT ,They were frozen Chips !!! Utter Rubish for the Price!!

We went here yesterday 14th May 2024, the staff are amazing lovely place plenty of parking, great food and drink, the only reason I never gave it a 5 was I ordered tempura prawns with my steak but they were just 3 prawns in their own shell no tempura batter, plus one of the prawns still had the black vein in the back. Would go back though.

The food was nice .We were informed,there would be a 25min wait .The food came after 15mins. So pretty good.

Much better after the second refurbishment, the first refurbishment was like a shipyard canteen. A central bar with several inside seating areas and outside seating. Carpark to the side and wheelchair accessible.

Food was beautiful hot well presented staff was polite well mannered very helpful would recommend this establishment and very dog friendly 5+

First visit but won’t be our last. Visited first thing on a Sunday. Lovely decor, very cosy! Sat next to the fire which was delightful! Food delicious, bit on the pricier side but worth it. Staff all very welcoming and eager to serve. Very spacious, nice to see tables not crammed together.

Great food and excellent service. We were there for a 50th wedding anniversary and service was brilliant. Thanks to Reece for looking after us all night. Highly recommend

Tea was awful (one teabag in the pot). Beef stottie beef tasted of liver and was a strange texture, as if it had been steamed. Dirty toilets with poo marks in the bowl. The touch points on the toilet doors hadn’t been wiped and there was dirt on the tiles, under the driers. A disgrace for a newly opened venue.

It was a very enjoyable experience, The food was absolutely fantastic. Service was polite and quick, enjoyed every minute of my stay.

Very pleased to have this open again and doing well. Drinks are reasonably priced and the food is good. Just had a Sunday lunch with really excellent meat 👍 A small point - they really need to finish / tidy up the building work.

Exceptional quality and reasonable price for what is a chain pub. Staff super cheery if a little inexperienced, not that it made a difference to the great time had.

This used to be the best chippy in Whitley, it now doesn't exist! What a tragedy!

My son had his 30th birthday celebration at the Tavern and Galley recently. Jay was immensely professional and helpful: he set up an area of the pub to facilitate a private function, and was so attentive throughout — ensuring everything ran smoothly. I ordered pizzas and side orders for our guests, and the food was delicious; the staff serving our tables were very polite and helpful, too. Fantastic venue, great atmosphere, helpful staff, and delicious pizzas — would definitely recommend.

Stottie was on the dry side of life.

Had high expectations about my lunchtime visit and on first entry of this establishment I was not disappointed. The inside is well decorated and plush and very welcoming with separate areas throughout to eat more privately if you wish. I also loved the fact that dogs are welcomed with well behaved owners a touch always welcomed at a sea side venue. I ordered croque monsieur but was disappointed with the food when it arrived. The bread was hard to chew through, the ham although plentiful was one thick piece and very dry and the cheese was quite sparse turning what should have been a rather decadent ham and cheese sandwich into a hard to eat sandwich, I was pleased I asked for extra sauce as this did help. Would i return to this pub, most certainly i would but i would order something different next time, something that is their speciality maybe?

First time here. Used to visit a lot when Briardene. Was one of our friends birthday so thought we'd give it a try. Really nicely done, good atmosphere and staff friendly and helpful. Food was pretty good. Served quickly by very friendly staff. But what a shame about the price of drinks. 2 wine, 1 spritzer and 1 pt.....£36.55!! I needed oxygen. Blimey. I just don't know how those prices can be justified. I don't mind paying a little extra but that's just OTT. I won't be going back but only for that reason.

Roast beef was very fatty and tuff. Disappointing, won't be going back !

This is the first time I have been here since it was done out. Its been done to a really high standard which is a good indication of what to expect. We had lunch, the food was lovely and the staff were really nice. My friend and I had chose from the light bite/ starter menu and had the black pudding Scotch Egg and the 3 fish, both were really nice. The table next to us had the burger and fries which looked really nice. I'm definitely intend to go back on an evening

Generally a good offering. Drinks service and ordering was quick. Food service was a little slow. Food was good. But please sort out your small tables. Many have feet missing and are unsuitable for use. It would cost little to solve. Just do it.

Service & atmosphere was fine, food very poor standard, ordered Steak with egg & beans, a whole layer the waiter came back & said ‘No Beans’ so ordered 2 eggs, only to be told ‘No eggs’!!!!! Certainly won’t be making a return trip

Myself and my husband went for a rare meal out. My husband had heard about the restaurant from his work colleagues, so we made a booking for a Sunday. The meal came and it was a lovely presentation but I found the green beans were nearly raw. Nearly at the end of my Sunday dinner I gasped, there was a long blonde hair in my vegetables. I went straight to the manager and told him that was discusting. We also heard another complaint from another table but I don't know what that was about. I would not recommend people to go, but others might have had a good experience

We went for Sunday lunch today and the food was delicious. The staff were also very attentive and friendly. We will return 😊

Far too busy, not enough staff, ran out of most things for Sunday lunch, very long wait and was cold, our children's food didn't arrive at the same time and had to ask where it was as we were nearly finished eating. Overpriced for what we received! Disappointed.

Visited for food without a booking a got a booth, seating five of us. Service was brilliant, Jay was very attentive whilst also well timed, giving us time to get stuck in but also asking if we are enjoying food while our mouths are empty, not full as what usually happens. Jay was very friendly with a warm welcoming smile, observant and looked after ourselves as well as other customers to a great standard. Other staff were very friendly and courteous too. The food was lovely, triple cooked chips were so yum! And the batter on the scampi was lovely and crispy, not soft, with a home made tartre sauce. Would definitely recommend and return. I wanted to leave this review on Dish Cult but had difficulties with the website.

We booked a table for 3 with only a few hours notice. On arrival there was confusion about our table. Once seated it took about 20 mins to order drinks. And asked if we were ready to order food. I advised we had not yet been provided with menus. After another 20 mins we ordered our food. We ordered more drinks just as our starters arrived and received them long after finishing our starters. At which point we had been there an hour. Best creamy garlic mushrooms I've ever had. Soft boiled egg wrapped in black pudding to die for and the tacos were polished off nicely. The mains let them down. Chilli beef tasted lovely. Huge portion but eating food should ever take that much effort and I struggled to chew the beef. Scampi and chips were poor. Chips soggy and very greasy, scampi very fishy taste. And burger with cold fries was disappointing. We asked for our bill whilst I was still trying to eat the chilli beef because as I expected it took about 20 minutes to come. The price for some of the food was reasonable because of the food quality but the service really let the restaurant down. The front of house staff mostly walked around looking a bit lost and empty handed. We probably won't return.

Summary: Utterly terrible service; food fine. Good option during the week, less at weekends. Firstly, should highlight that I am ex-hospitality industry so have a professional viewpoint. Secondly, visited on an exceedingly busy Sunday around 330pm (traditionally quieter after the lunch time rush but not the case on this visit). Décor: Newly refurbished with the bar now moved into the centre of the property, décor is modern in dark colours; with lower lighting levels. Lots of high tables for drinkers; and an expanded restaurant seating area. What seems to be lacking in the new décor is any "please wait here to be seated" area. Food: No real issues, although some of the dishes served up were different from description on the (limited) menu. When it arrived, food was hot and tasted good. Does not appear to be pre-packaged catering compared with fresh food preparation. Staff: Utter disaster. Nobody is controlling anything, and the staff are poorly trained and we spotted three dressed in tracksuit bottoms, who had zero customer service skills. All the staff just spend all their time apologising. 20 minutes after seating we had to ask for our order to be taken; and 45 minutes later the food arrived; and drinks 10 minutes after that! We didn't risk anything else, as the wait times were too long. At asking for the bill, they had lost our order and had to ask what we had. It was clearly then entered into the till system and 15 minutes later, our original drinks from two hours earlier arrived (again). Someone from SJF needs to take this venue, it's staff, and take control and enormously turn around customer service and quality.

Came here 1st time for Sunday lunch, won't be back!!! Food good apart from Yorkshire pudding which seemed to disintegrate and dry!! Staff could do with some training in customer service. After ordering drinks waited over 20 minutes before order taken, no one came at end so we waited 15 mins then paid bill at bar instead of waiting, tables not cleared promptly!!! Very disappointed .

Drinks ordered immediately took so long to arrive they were flat so must of been poured and left standing before being served. Food took over 40 minutes was only just warm. My meal was dreadful pork sandwich Supposed to be served on ciabatta bun but was on a cheap dry stottie type. Thick Chunks of pork quite uneatable and round things that I thought were sage and onion but didn’t taste of anything. The only good thing was a young lady called Rachel who was extremely nice and did her very best to hurry on our meal.

It was the first time we had been in for food since it was done out and it has to be said that the whole place is so much better, the food was fantastic, one of the nicest Sunday lunches I've ever had and we will definitely be going back very soon

booked a table for 1pm, waited 15 minutes at the bar (only 2 customers in front of me) to be told you names on the table. took a further 20 minutes for someone to come and take food order. worst meal ive ever had, couldn't cut the beef it was that stringy and green beans were raw (not al dente) then couldn't find anyone to pay the bill. for context, we go to the twin farms and ridley Arms quite a bit. Will not be back.

Booked a table for 6 celebrating my brother’s 70th birthday. I was told they couldn’t provide a cake but would provide candles to his desert and make a fuss like happy birthday etc. We provided balloons and presents. First of all the gentlemen behind the bar was good but on his own, so we queued for drinks and had to rejoin the queue for food, this was not good, it was also cold, I could hear comments from other table’s, could see the bar person was agitated and needed help bot no one came to assist, there was no front of house monitoring. Service was poor, we were not all served together as expected, salt, pepper and condiments were not suppled prior to meal, girl got agitated when asked where they were, definitely lack of staff, when the meal was finished we moved the dishes to an empty table as no one came to clear the table. Ordered desert had to queue again, informed the gentleman behind the bar if he birthday person, he confirmed candles will he supplied and a fuss will be made, when desert arrived, no candles, no fuss, girl informed us they had ran out of candles, no fuss made not her job!. Not a satisfactory night at all, bill came to £160, not a good night, definitely not worth the money, what you are told ion the phone is not what you get on the night. The gentleman behind the bar knew the service was pool but he needed help but no one was there to assist. Very disappointed.

This pub is a transformation and very welcome change to the previous disaster that it was.

Went for lunch today and the food was fantastic, large portions and delicious. I had the fish finger stottie with fries and my mum had the hot beef stottie. Staff were attentive and pleasant.

Waited 40 minutes for food that arrived Luke warm. We were not informed of the wait when ordering. Won’t be back.

Busy Friday lunch time (especially busy for time of year) Really nice refurbishment. Huge fish & chips!! Great value. Attentive service from Michael - Thank you again! Looking forward to next visit when in area. Large selection of drinks & (again reasonably priced)£3.80 for a pint of Lager not bad at all… Noticed Sky Sports available & plenty of private dining areas. Ideal for weekends I presume.. Excellent all round. Wish you all the success & we’ll definitely be back when in Whitley Bay Area. Wish I had a similar Tavern as my local !😁

Horrendous. Where do I start…. Put 3 diners on a table for 2; request to move ignored; had to guess how/where to order; finally given starters- the meanest tacos ever, with ‘nachos’ made up of the basic dust at the end of a bag. Waited for a further 1.5 hours for main courses- after enquiring twice and ignored.then they brought out the starters again! Finally got three main courses which have unsettled our tummies since. The fish pie was less tasty than a school dinner in the 1970s, the green veg side was uncooked, unseasoned, and not even prepped properly. The burger was the standard of a burger van at a football match. The pizza was ok. None of us scored our food higher than 4/10. And the service was appalling- young kids with no training on how not to stick their fingers in your food as they serve it. Waste of money, and not worth a repeat visit. What a shame, as the old Brierdene was always good.

First time back after the reopening. The fit out is beautiful, the place looks great. The food was very good, Fish Pie perfect! The staff were also great, Ashleigh the manager was all over everything, chatty and very attentive!

Make sure you are really hungry when you visit. This is one pub restaurant we will never forget. The food was to die for and you get such huge portions. The steak and ale pie was incredible. Absolutely huge chunks and lots of them. The fish was perfectly cooked and hubby described it as big as a whale, it certainly looked it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. You don't feel crowded or rushed and it has brilliant views over the bay. Fully wheelchair friendly with loads of room to get around the tables etc. We didn't see any children, but it's clear that they cater for them. We highly recommend this as a place to rest up and have a meal. You won't be disappointed.

The ambience is very good, and likewise the food......when it arrived. But we had to wait patiently for an hour, no exaggeration, for the six meals to arrive. Perhaps this was a result of he place being understaffed, with inexperienced staff, who knows. It's a lovely place. But to wait so long for service is a real drag.

Great food - but took around 2 hours from ordering to mains being delivered. Apparently this is because 2 out of 9 of us ordered starters so the mains were bumped down the chef's list. We had booked the table in advance but the mains were delivered at the time we'd been told they'd need the table back 🤦‍♂️

Tried to have a meal here today. We waited an hour and the couple who we were with got their food. Half an hour after we still hadn't been served with our food. Shockingly bad service. Staff didn't seem too concerned about the hour and a half wait for food. We will not go back to this pub again .

Firstly I must out myself as a briardene fan. The tavern and galley's previous incarnati and was a regular visitor and was always impressed with the food despite some long waits when it was busy. Whilst the interior remodelling looks great, they have increased the number of tables by at least 10 by my estimation but there has not been the additional increase in staff, and from what I can tell there are no experienced hands at the moment. For example tables left with used plates and glasses for over 30 minutes despite staff coming past with meals for other tables but going back to the kitchen with empty hands and guests having to request staff clear a table so they can be seated. Another bugbear of mine is having to order food and drinks from the bar but with only 3-4 staff behind the bar and those staff also delivering drinks to some tables it means a longer than necessary wait at the bar. As you can see from the photos the food is well presented on tasteful crockery, however the food arrived at the same time with a reasonable wait but in a variety of temperatures, with all plates and bowls being cold, and the most painful experience of all the chips being tepid and soggy. I will give the tavern and galley the benefit of the doubt as it is boxing day and I always say try everything twice so hopefully won't be as disappointed on my next visit

Had a beautiful meal last night at the Tavern and Galley with my family. Hanging chicken kebab was delicious as were the deserts, we had the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. Parking was easy, staff were so helpful and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Drinks prices were very competitive with other places in the area.

Have to say I do let be the refurbishment they have done with this place. We all loved the food and drinks. Best ribeye steak I've had for a while! Great service!

Six of us went for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent, fish pie superb, as was the range of real ales and lagers on offer.

Great food and looking forward to a nice until the football started on the tv’s , so loud it was difficult to hold a conversation and this was throughout the whole pub even in the quiet area we were told about, don’t go if there is football on , the area we were sitting in emptied

My belly pork was a bit to fatty but the rest of my crowd really enjoyed there’s a nice atmosphere and good service

Just had a lovely family meal at the Tavern and Galley. Chaotic because we were 3 generations, with ages down to a just turned one year old. The staff coped with us brilliantly. The food was all lovely and arrived very quickly. I had a Sunday Roast which was great but 2 of the group had fish and chips and the fish was as large as 2 x fish as most restaurants. Highly recommended for food, drink and quality of staff!

The restaurant / pub has only been (re) opened for a few days, but we have been there twice already, and had both good food and good service. Quality and quantity was good. It can get very busy, which is always a good sign. Many thanks to the staff there.

Love the smell of the log fire ,adds to the whole ambience, Neck Oil on tap, and the foods delicious, all while the waves are crashing just over the road! What's not to love? 10/10

I'm so glad to see the building reopened into mainly a bar rather than a restaurant. The atmosphere is a lot better and the menu is fitting. The interior is incredible.

Food is not that nice, not much to choose from. Waited for a long time for the food to arrive. The staff are average. Wouldn't recommend or go again. Finally it's closed

The food service was very, very slow. Was also overpriced for what we got. Rumours are it's being closed for reservations. With no reopening date and staff are being paid off.
