Ordered food. Sent it to the wrong table. Waited a further 45 mins for starters. Then asked for a refund and left without being served any food.

I had lunch there last Sunday. patatas bravas were loaded with chili and pretty inedible as too hot, the meat balls were still pink inside and extremely salty, the salad on the menu was not available. someone ordered something else which did not arrive. all in all a pretty dismal experience.

Bacon on all ordered items was very underdone. Raspberries supplied instead of blueberries as ordered, no explanation or apology. Food quality was not up to the usual standard we have enjoyed on our previous visits and will certainly think twice before we decide to visit again. Service and coffee was good. Do hope this is not the start of the slide into mediocrity.

My daughter is a vegan. Most people know what it means. Unfortunately, the chefs at this restaurant do not. I have been for food twice with her and both time they have given her fish cakes instead of the food she ordered. I have eaten here often, and it's often wrong, but it's always fine with me, but the way they give someone who can not eat meat, fish, or dairy is unacceptable and dangerous. They changed the food for here but it was served cold. Saying all that, it's a nice place with great service and very pleasant staff.

Great visit to Allard’s. Second trip of the week. First visit, we had Tapas… 1. Patatas bravas, 2. Salted Kale, 3. Olives and focaccia, 4. Honey Cauliflower. All were absolutely incredible. Some were nearly finished while others still waiting. Side dishes coming late after having to ask and some of the food is not what is stated on menu. The lemon chicken is more like Iceland chicken strips and over cooked. The pizzas looked nice. Food here is nothing like the one in Tynemouth which I would give five stars to. Only good thing was the nice waiting staff so I would suggest going for drinks but give some of the food a miss

We visited after Allards Monkseaton was recommended to us...........really wish I hadn't. We were seated after I ducked the ridiculous plastic orange tree that fills both walkways to get to our table...maybe my fault for being 6ft 1. Young gentleman turned up to take drinks orders, no Bacardi so had to settle for another white rum with coke but with no ice. It turned up with enough ice to sink the Titanic. Ordered our food, 2 tapas and 2 main meals. Waited not to long and all the food turned up at once! Not enough space on the table for everything so I asked them to take back the mains which they did. After finishing the tapas our mains reappeared and to their credit they had recooked them. Margarita pizza advertised as being served with basil and oilve oil both missing and the fish and chips advertised as being served with mushy peas and chunky chips. Peas were normal garden peas and the whilst chunky chips were chunky they also had their skins on and were borderline cremated. Spoke to the manager on the way out and got a half mumbled apology. We don't eat out that often and definitely will not be returning. £57.00 for one of the worst and comical meals ever.

We were over the moon to hear Allards were opening around the corner and have been in quite a few times now for various meals/drinks. The decor is beautiful, food great but the big let down is the service. Having to ask several times for cutlery, for staff to take empty glasses, part of order missing, wrong drinks etc… I feel it’s missing someone being in charge and overseeing the floor staff. Absolutely want this to be our go to as it is on our door stop but always leave a bit disappointed.

Been to this place three times now and every single time they have got the order wrong not through the fault of the waiter but through the fault of the kitchen as when we complained the things that were missing the waiter added on and then at the end it was on the bill twice. When you build your own breakfast it is extremely expensive for certain item's and the way the Items were cooked on all three occasions was very poor- black on one side quite often.. having said that the waiter was a very good guy and the service was ok.

MORE AT Google

I came here with my family yesterday (Easter sunday). We had a table booked for 1 o'clock for 7 people. As we were booking ourselves in we were told our table was needed again at 2.20 so we had to vacate our table by then! Not a great start. We were shown to our table. The restaurant was absolutely lovely. Nice, bright and airy. The tables weren't crammed together which was a nice change and it wasn't overly busy, just a steady flow of customers, making it much more comfortable. Once sat down we realised the table was only set for 6 so we asked staff for more cutlery. But WE had to move the table along to fit the 7th person on it at the end. Looking at the menu the food sounded delicious....if you eat meat. There were 2 vegetarian options, 1 being vegan, a sweet potato and lentil bake, or margarita pizza. (This is a Sunday lunch menu so no other menu was available, obviously). 4 of the group had starters. 2 prawn cocktail, 2 meatballs, and thoroughly enjoyed them. The 4 who had starters obviously used their cutlery (the settings only had cutlery for one course?) so we asked for more. I opted for the sweet potato dish...the others had meat roasts, one had fish and chips. All the roasts came out at 1.55 and the plates were full to the brim! They looked delicious. Apart from the very dark brown/black extremely crispy, but HUGE, Yorkshire puddings. I think everyone ate the bottom of them but had to leave the rest....but nobody was too fussed as their plates were full of other delicious food. The fish was huge, the chips even bigger! And was, again, tasty. We had to ask again for the 4 sets of cutlery though, after the meals were served. Then I waited for mine. It came out 5 minutes later, bearing in mind we had to vacate our table by 2.20! So, out came my meal. A piece of sweet potato and lentil bake with a spoonful of green veg which included, green beans, sugar snap peas, cabbage. That was it! It wasn't a spoonful of each of the veg, it was 1 spoonful. I queried the lack of veg, potatoes etc and I was told they weren't vegetarian/vegan! Why? You only offer ONE vegan dish and don't serve it with a variety of veg? Potatoes at that!? Then unexpectedly, a few minutes later, someone came with a dish of 'roasted' potatoes in oil. They definately had oil on them and were possibly threatened with being roasted....but roasted they definitely were not! They were tasteless and rock hard! And they come out after my meal was served? Needless to say I wasn't very happy. If you only offer one vegan/vegetarian meal (pizza isn't really a sunday lunch meal) why isn't the veg prepped/par cooked to cater for that ONE vegan/vegetarian option? When you clearly do that for your roasties done in beef dripping, mash done in butter.... It's not a difficult thing to think of and definitely not any more difficult to cook!!! To be fair. My small, lonely piece of sweet potato and lentil bake was quite tasty and my spoonful of veg, again, quite tasty, but come on. £14 for 2 (small) food items on your plate is a bit shameful. Obviously we were nowhere near finished our meal at 2.20. But well done to the staff they didn't ask us to move. Once we'd all finished eating we asked if we could take our drinks to another table to finish (we were very conscious of another group waiting for the table). We moved into the bar area, which again was a pleasant area to have our drinks. It was obviously a lot busier through there but still pleasant. All in all it was a lovely place, good atmosphere, nice staff. Food for meat eaters is great. Food for vegan/vegetarian is diabolical and very shameful to the establishment. So, after paying just under £200, that was just for the restaurant side (we also had a couple of drinks in the bar afterwards) , I felt extremely underwhelmed and most definitely very disappointed. I did mention to a member of staff how disappointed I was with my meal.....it was kind of dismissed with a 'tilt of her head, a 'sad look' and 'ah sorry you didn't enjoy it!!!??? I'm undecided as to whether I'd return......

Dined here this evening, arrived in good time and upon arrival it seemed chaotic. When we were able to order drinks we were told it would be 25 minutes before we could order food due to such a backlog. The time between arrival and getting our food was 90 minutes. The food was hot and fresh but was nothing special. Even though I’ve rated the service poorly I feel for the staff as the booking system seemed to have issues and possibly communication issues in the kitchen. Upon paying we were just going to pay the bill as one lump sum, however the staff member was adamant it was easier if we were to split.

Came here at lunchtime once and the tapas was really nice and service was quick, however, after our last visit at teatime the experience unfortunately wasn't quite the same. Service was very slow, the food came and there was little to no meat on the flatbreads that we ordered (£15 each) it was essentially a dribble of sauce and overloaded with soggy red Cabbage. We had our table booked for 2 hours from 5pm, the restaurant was not that busy so expected service to be quicker than it was. Staggered services when ordering drinks, sat for 25 minutes after finishing our food and nobody came to clear our table, we were then asked if we would like dessert, when we then ordered dessert we were then asked to go and sit in the bar as they needed the table as it was passed the 2 hour slot (plenty of other tables around in the restaurant for their next party to use) very disappointed as all of our other experiences in the Allards restaurants have been really nice

Very sad to report that the breakfast here has gone from excellent to rubbish. On Sunday all 4 of us had to send back our plates with missing items or undercooked food. Even on return the food was poor with bread ends served as toast, 6 slices of small mushroom deemed a portion and wet spinach. It's a shame as the venue is gorgeous and the wait staff wonderful. Perhaps if the chef spent less time smoking in the alley behind things might improve?

I have to echo quite a few of the other reviews and say the decor and interior is lovely and well done, but sadly this is where Allards must have thought 'job done' because everything else just isn't good enough. The service is very slow, the menu is limited including no kids menu, and when the food came it was a disappointment. We mainly ordered flatbreads (some chicken, some honey pork) which we sparse on top to say the least, with a few tiny pieces of meat and the rest was spicy mayo and red pickled cabbage. We had the table for two hours which was agreed, but after waiting 25 minutes after finishing our main we were asked if we would like dessert. When we ordered we were then told we would need to move table (8 of us) as they now needed our table back (if service hadn't been so slow this wouldn't have been a problem). I would advise not to spend your money here as there are so many other places locally where you won't be left disappointed.

I was really excited to have Allards on our doorstep but unfortunately over time the standard of food has proved too erratic for me. Previously I have had the flatbread with beetroot, humus tzatziki. Absolutely amazing, so tasty I raved about it to friends. Last night same dish dreadful. Flatbread itself looked anaemic, with lots of beetroot and a few dots of tzatziki. No resemblance to my previous flatbread at all. After sending back twice I eventually got a fresh flatbread which was only just OK (second attempt same flatbread smothered in humus). We've tried the fish & chips for lunch which arrived looking delicious. In reality the chips were the best I've ever had but the fish was absolutely tasteless. Because we live local and Allards are dog friendly we called in one morning for breakfast. We ordered two Eggs Benedict but only one arrived. On serving we were asked if we were sharing! Really? We have visited many times often with family or friends and know the food can be really good but it needs to be good all the time.

Had to wait several minutes for the 4th meal when the breakfasts did eventually arrive. Then we had to ask for cutlery and condiments as the waitress had disappeared and hadn’t thought to bring it out with the meals. The bacon was overdone, coffee was bitter and the menu said that it was a breakfast stottie, however it wasn’t a stottie, it was a large roll. We felt it was overpriced and a disappointment and despite 2 emails being sent we haven’t received the courtesy of a response nearly 2 months later. Clearly customer service both during a visit and after a visit isn’t of any importance.

Style over substance! Met friends for breakfast and ordered the field mushrooms on rye toast for £9.99. When it arrived it was the smallest slice (singular) of non descript toast, with a tiny selection of mushrooms and spinach. Not often lost for words I was stunned at the meagre offering in front of me. When I queried this with the waitress I was told that field mushrooms are expensive😂😂. Obviously these mushrooms must have been picked by virgins at midnight during a full moon on the far slopes of the Himalayas to justify this ludicrous cost. What was there tasted nice but I had to go home for scrambled egg on toast to satisfy my hunger. Also, one of my friends selected the build your own breakfast option and chose hot smoked salmon as one of her options but what was served was bog standard smoked salmon. Sorry, but if I’ve come to have a meal I don’t need loud music pumped out of a speaker above my head, to the point that I can’t hear other people on my table talk. Maybe save the music for the bar area and allow restauranters to chat. Won’t be going back in a hurry, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

West Monkseaton Allards. Food was lush, came out quickly and was very tasty. Service however, SHOCKING! Not one member of staff attended our table since taking the food order. We had to reorder drinks from the bar ourselves, and later we called a member of staff over after finishing our meal and asked for the dessert menu, to then be told the kitchen had closed as he was walking backwards away from the table, (21:10). We mentioned to the staff 'no one has attended to our table', to which he replied 'sorry' and proceeded to walk away. We can understand the kitchen closes, however, you would expect a member of staff to come over and offer a dessert menu after 30 minutes of finishing your meal. As I am writing this, we still have not had any contact with a member of staff, and are watching them clean as we sit with empty glasses. Such a shame because the food was fantastic. Won't be back in a hurry.

We went for breakfast and sat in the orangery. Beautiful venue and they make lovely eggs. I had scrambled and my friend had poach. Both were perfect. Would definitely go again.

Have been to Allards in Tynemouth before and always enjoyed it so living closer to Monkseaton thought I would give it a try and it did not disappoint. Went with my husband for date night and had tapaz. We went for 4 dishes and 1 side to share which is plenty for 2. All were delicious and the cocktails were good too. Service was excellent, very prompt, attentive and polite.

I have visited four times now, mostly for drinks but today for breakfast. Lovely place with good quality food and drinks . It is let down by the service which is just ok. The serving staff/hosts are not particularly welcoming or friendly . The bar staff are better from my experience so far. As other have mentioned, a few kid friendly options would be a good addition

Very nice looking bar and restaurant, can tell a lot of effort went in to decor etc. however the food is just awful. Portion size is abysmal, ordered seafood paella, was £8 and had about 2 mouth fulls. Ordered 2 steaks, meat was cooked well, but was bad quality, full of fat, not the best cuts. Also ordered a burger, meat was overcooked. They put pizza sauce in the burger, just didn’t go well. No children’s menus is a real let down too. Drinks are nice, well made, but incredibly expensive.

Booked here for daughters birthday meal, sat in Orangery part of restaurant, this area is not for me, far too bright with sun beaming on you as if you're in a greenhouse with heavy cast iron chairs that scrap so loud if you dare move!, this is my personal taste though and I can see the effort in decoration and why others would enjoy this space. As always though Allards did not disappoint with the food, absolutely gorgeous as always could not fault the food, we enjoyed our meal very much. Quick friendly service. I will definitely come back but sit in the bar/restaurant area as I would prefer this.

Visited twice - a Saturday night with my husband & another couple. We ordered 3 tapas dishes to share (& our friends ordered the same). Harissa Lamb (very liquidy with few pieces of lamb), salt & chilli chicken (very small portion & barely enough to share), monkfish/chorizo bean stew (1 small piece of fish on the top). Nice, but very small & not greatly impressed. We don't have big appetites but ended up buying chips on the way home. Went the following Friday lunchtime with friends & what a difference. A friend had the Harissa lamb & it looked a totally different dish. It bore no resemblance to what we had been served on the previous Saturday. I had lemon chicken, which was lovely & a generous portion. The quality & portions of the food need to be consistent. After the first visit I wasn't going to rush back. However, I'm returning again this week & hoping that the food is as good as on my second visit.

Frosty welcome…..hostess without the mostest. Asked if we had a table booked….managed to ‘squeeze us in’ with the 20 plus empty tables. She came to take our order to which I advised we were only ordering drinks. She stated the conservatory area was only for food and ‘you’ll have to go sit next door’ then left us to it. Didn’t explain it was only bar service in that area….poor service. Place itself is done up lovely.

Decor top notch, service and staff good. Definitely worth a visit for drinks. Tapas poor - paella tasteless, patas bravas soggy, salt & chilli chicken dry as sticks, I could go on. Will go back for drinks but not for food.

Looking forward to lunch and drinks only to be told after finishing our food but still having drinking ,we were asked to move to another table as we were told they had just taken a booking for our table only to see a group of 4 woman get up from a table which wasn’t reserved until 17.00 (this was 15.00 )and sit on our table …. Not a great early finish to our day we left early than anticipated and will not be rushing back .

Great place, such a good location for all us locals, for food or just a quick pint after work. Beautiful orangery on the side, more of a restaurant, then a cosy bar area with plenty of tables.

So disappointed ☹️ The place has been beautifully done out and so much potential. But we were given a frosty welcome and then stood for a while before we were taken to our booked table. We then had to ask for menus after we had been sitting for another 10 minutes. Service was overall slow. And the food was not as good as I was expecting having been to the other restaurants. The portions were small for the price and the meat was overdone. Hopefully they will sort out their staffing issues and things will improve.

Good selection of food but no childrens' options. Paid £16 for a kids fish n chips. Out of lamb apparently, must be a shortage in the field. Fast and courteous service. Good selection of cocktails but quite pricey at £10 a pop. Worth booking ahead if you want to be in the restaurant area, bar is quite cramped and busy with only 2 people on taking both bar food and drink orders.

What a lovely place light bright nice decor we enjoyed our drink and Tapas but what spoilt it was dogs on seats and at one point on the table dogs in pubs okay but if you are eating they should not be on seats and never on tables

Another 'meh' Costa location which cements their reputation as the poorest of the big coffee chains in the UK (Nero has better coffee, Starbucks better spaces, and Pret better food - and let's not forget Greggs which is giving them all a run for their money across the board). That said the staff here are lovely. Game for a bit of banter and a laugh and clearly the reason why your cohort of regulars keep coming back. I hope you look after them as well as they look after your customers. This location could be vastly improved by getting the basics right. Why is the WiFi broken? Why is it so dark? Why are there flyers strewn across every surface? And why is a flat white served in a soup bowl?
