Tata's Cafe & Restaurant in South Lakeland

Disappointing. Ideally located on the main street but not somewhere we'd go again. Ambience was non-existent, toilet facilities unsanitary and the waitresses having to deal with being shouted at (unfairly) by whoever was in the back. Food took a while to arrive and was expensive for what was on the plate. There's much nicer cafes to spend your money in, don't waste your time in here.

Food took over 40mins to arrive with only the two of us in there listening to all the clattering and banging of plates and cutlery so talking to one another was out of the question! The 2 poached eggs I had were not cooked and the third was so overcooked you could bounce it off the walls plus the plate was swimming with water topped off with cold toast. Left the place hungry as wasn’t prepared to eat what was placed in front of me. The waitress was the only thing decent about this place!

Absolutely shocking. Had to wait 25 minutes for our food to arrive (the full English) the sausages were hard/tough, the bacon was grey in places and the beans were from the Asda essentials range so cheap!! Egg undercooked. Really off putting and did not enjoy the meal at all. Also charged 2.95 for a glass of apple juice, which I assume will also be cheap Asda juice. So their profit margin will be high for sure. The mushrooms had fried onion in amongst but this was never stated on the menu description. Not good if you have allergies etc. Also have ‘homemade soup on the menu and could see the Heinz tins in the kitchen…..would not recommend eating here!!

An excellent little cafe opposite the Snooty Fox on the Main Street. We had a toasted cheese sandwich with salad, bacon & egg on toast and a cup of tea/coffee for our lunch there on Sunday. We really enjoyed it, did not feel rushed and the person waiting on the tables who took our order was very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. Very nice cafe with great prices, good menu and friendly service.

Called in for a something for a light lunch, we had a cheese, ham & tomato toastie which was excellent, piping hot and just the right amount of filling. A pot of tea for 2 to finish off with. There were some lovely looking cakes but we were full, a Lady near us recommended the scones which also looked lovely, we would certainly visit again

Lovely Sevice with a lovely warm atmosphere... couldn't ask more from this quirky little cafe and the the staff perfect 🙂🤩

Called in on a wet an cold day, to be welcomed by a lovely host! Food was lovely and excellent coffees just what we needed. Will definitely be back when in Kirkby Lonsdale!

Me and my son always go to Tata’s Cafe when we will go for a coffee in town. We love their scones and hot chocolate. And the recent one that we’ve tried is their tuna melt, it was delish. Also, I heard from some of the locals that their breakfast is one of the best in Kirkby. We haven’t tried it yet but we’ll definitely will one day.

I went to this cafe yesterday with a family of 6, we all ordered full English and it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had.My mum also had a bacon and egg sandwich she really enjoyed it said it was cooked perfectly with fresh bread.Also lovely and smiley staff all the way through,kept checking on us and asking if everything was okay.Amazing experience will definitely be coming back 🤩

Beautiful eggs and great coffee, had a cheese and mushroom ommelette and an americano, friendly atmosphere , very helpful staff, even allowed my dog and gace her water

Had a lovely time at Tata’s Cafe. Came in with my friends for a cooked breakfast for 4. Order was taken soon and not a long wait. Breakfast was good, with lots on the plate. Lovely staff and great food. Would come again!

Lovely tasty mushroom and cheese omelette with side salad. My friend had poached eggs on toast. Food was nicely cooked and very well presented. Will come back to try your soup next!

A small ‘dog friendly’ cafe with only 5 tables, even the kitchen is area is small. The rear door was kept fully open to allow the smell of cooking to escape but it was a cold day and it made the room cold, hence other customers and I kept are coats on. Service was slow, my wife’s omelette was to her liking, her cappuccino was small and not from a steamed ‘bean to cup’ machine. I had soup and a tuna sandwich, the tomato soup was sweet and tasted very nice. The tuna sandwich was a little dry, the bread was definitely not fresh. The salad garnish was nice. On a positive note one of the men working there did wash his hands a couple of times after handling food and dirty plates. We took a chance on eating here, it won’t get a second chance when there are better run, warm comfortable eating establishments charging the same prices within 100 yards.

Excellent friendly service the food was good and wholesome surely the best cafe in Kirkby Lonsdale I would recommend it to everyone !

Popped into this cafe. Today whilst in kl. ordered beans on toast ( easy you'd think) and a blt for my husband. After a while a plate with 2 slices of toast was put on the table and the waitress left. I managed to get her attention and asked if the toast was some else's order. She looked I repeated our order. She returned with my husbands blt ( no tomato) then a few minutes later returned with beans on the toast that had been brought earlier. ( it was cold and hard despite the warm beans. I decided not to complain but vote with my feet and not return. At £4.25 I think the toast that comes with the beans could at least be freshly made. Suggest cafe is avoided as others have recommended.

Visited this charming cafe on a chilly Sunday afternoon. There was a warm welcome followed by an excellent coffee followed by fresh hot food on a warm plate. Which is always a bonus. Opposite the snooty fox. Definitely one to try.

Came across the café whilst here on a day out in Kirkby. Sweet potato soup with celery and apple was such a lovely combination of ingredients, and very well presented!!! The waiter was so polite and very enthusiastic, ensuring all customers were happy. He even helped an elderly man outside (who must’ve been a regular) to get his take away food. Service was fantastic and I will definitely be returning to the café!! The café is very small however, definitely worth the wait!:) Fantastic and fresh food.

My wife and I had lunch here by chance after a wet morning in and around Kirkby Lonsdale. A great place to have stumbled on by accident. Wonderful gently spiced sweet potato soup with celery and apple (I combined mine with a very acceptable cheese and chutney sandwich). The young couple running the café were friendly and although the service seemed a little slow at first this was explained as the eponymous Tata was making a fresh batch of soup - so it could not have been fresher. A local couple arrived just after us who were obviously regulars; good to know my wife and I chose a place which is favoured by the residents of Kirkby Lonsdale and is not just a tourist trap. We will certainly return on our next trip to the town.

Great little cafe, we visited with our two dogs friendly staff and lovely owner. Hot chocolate was great after a cold walk on the Ingelton waterfall trials will return on our next visit

Such a friendly place. We came back after our holiday last year and it's just as lovely. Great value, friendly service, delicious food, generous portions. Excellent value for money and the atmosphere always makes our holiday perfect.We will likely come here a few more times before the end of our stay ♥️♥️♥️

We came across the little cafe on our way from a hike around Kirkby Lonsdale and went in as it was the only cafe left open. We both ordered a coffee and a soup and a sandwich. The food was delicious, made fresh - tomato and basil soup was quite chunky and well seasoned. The sandwiches came with a lovely salad on the side. The owner was lovely and friendly, keeping us posted about our food and checking all was good. The servo e was slightly slow but she was working on her own as her workers had left for the day. Would highly recommend.

Grandson Stanley needed a bacon cob but all Catherine could find was designer places where bacon sandwiches are garnished to gourmet standard at gourmet prices. Tata's fitted the bill wonderfully with a very nice couple serving - though the lady kept disappearing out of the shop and the gentleman could barely suppress his mirth.

We called in as we were passing and were made very welcome by the young lady serving. Ordered coffees and “soup and a sarnie” and a fruit scone. Service was friendly and prompt but without being rushed. Food was clearly freshly made to order and was delicious. Young waitress was very professional and very friendly. Dog friendly too. Would recommend and will definitely return.

Stopped to grab a quick bacon sandwich and was pleasantly surprised to find that Tata's do takeaway. Best bacon sandwich ever.

Had breakfast here on Saturday, cosy little café, great service, truthful food, and a celeb of an owner.

Attended today with husband and dog for brunch. Waitress was busy, however did acknowledge us and eventually came to take our order. It was obvious she was on her own today. Took our order and everything came in efficient time. This cafe has a lovely feel to it and also amazing that it was dog friendly. My only down point was that it was extremely expensive. We ordered a full English, cheese and tuna jacket potato. 2 soft drinks and a coffee. Almost £23.

Food served quickly, delicious and well prepared. Service with a smile. Will call again if in the area.

Creat little tearooms, the owner TATA is a real character. We had a wonderful breakfast here and a taty lunch the next day. Nothing fancy, just honest food.

We’ve been relaxing in Kirkby Lonsdale and popped in for lunch. The mushroom soup was amazing. All portions were generous and the service was super efficient.

i never write poor reviews but felt i needed to after our experience today. my wife and i ordered soup and sandwich each and waited 45 mins for it to come. the only other people in before us just ordered a soup each and complained when they waited 30 mins as their carpark ticket was about to expire.when i went to pay i politely said to the owner that it really is poor service, she said i should have walked out!! i said that isn't my point, i paid but thought she would like some helpful comments but basically she wasn't interested so never again for us! soup blandest i have ever had, sandwich was nice.

Small cafe in centre Kirkby Lonsdale. . Maybe not the quickest service but food cooked to order. Super bacon and egg butty!!! Free second filter coffee. Dogs welcome--a bonus.

Called at lunch time. Place very busy but there were odd empty tables available. Totally ignored by waiting staff. Stood and waited 15 minutes then finally walked out .

Stopped for lunch at Tata's cafe ordered 2 drinks 2 cheese toasted sandwiches this was having seen nice looking plates of food arrive at tables, ours arrived thin sliced bread bit of cheese and burnt! NO nice side salad nothing zilch but guess what we' d paid £17.50 for the privilege. I just feel like they're ripping off visitors to their town and there certainly isn't any pride in the work of the cook if he, she was happy to send this out , Shameful. I did complain upon leaving! Avoid if visiting this town !

Waiting staff very sweet but, otherwise, oh dear.... Would like to recommend because staff did try and crumpets with cheese and red onion chutney very nice. But have to agree with the other reviews - lacklustre at best

We live locally so often visit Kirkby but have never been in Tata's before. It's small as other reviewers have said- 5 or 6 tables and we were the only people in initially. The girl who was waitressing was pleasant, in a dismissive sort of way, as she presented us with menus and left us to make our choices but did inform us that the coffee machine was broken so no hot milk was available. We chose a cafetière of coffee, toasted crumpets, cheese on toast with red onion chutney and crumpets with tuna melt and salad. Everything came fairly quickly and was ok- crumpets basic quality, a bit on the dry side. Cheese on toast was more red onion chutney on toast with cheese on top. Coffee weak but we drank it. As we ate, we couldn't help but over hear the staff chatting behind the counter saying they were p****d off about this that and the other! Other customers arrived and the waitress emerged with her " customer service" persona once more and informed each table about the coffee machine, no soup available and other non available items. Maybe we chose a bad day to visit but would advise the owner to invest in a little more staff training to improve things and better quality ingredients might be an idea?

Our visit to the rather lovely village of Kirkby Lonsdale was by chance rather than design. We were simply 'killing time' by walking around the village and by the river before walking back to the town for something to eat.

This is a small 5/6 table cafe, very clean and on the main Street of Kirkby Lonsdale. We didn't want a lot so opted for soup. The soup was average but the service was very slow. Would suggest using others in the street.

My husband and I stopped on our way to Yorkshire and wished we hadn't. The service was very slow , I had a wrap which consisted of a lettuce leaf bacon and 1 piece of chicken then bulked up with peppers, the wrap was too small it was just disgusting It was supposed to come with crisps but came with nachos which I am not keen on. I complained to the owner who said she would give me my money back then changed her mind saying she has never had any complaints before maybe she should look at her reviews. I found her to be quite rude and unprofessional. Also when we went to pay she and the waitress were having words and we were left to wait. In my opinion not a place to visit.

My wife and I thought we would try breakfast at this cafe situated in the high street across from the marketplace.

The coffee, scones and teacakes are very good, (when they arrive). It's small and very cramped. On several visits the service is always slow and on a least one occasion poor, with people around me waiting ages for food which then arrived in dribs and drabs with gaps between deliveries of individual items, some of which were wrong.
