Taste of Thai in North West Leicestershire

The food was excellent, we had the chicken satay as a starter and both shared a chicken masaman and chicken penang curry. Unfortunately the service let this restaurant down. Our mains took so long to arrive, when I chased this up I was told it would be 15 minutes and then 15 minutes later the waiter came over and asked if it was chicken or beef curry. So I think our order had not gone through and been forgotten as other tables that ordered food after us arrived before ours. 😕 Whether this is a blip I am not sure as our first visit as we were staying overnight in the area.

Been going to Taste of Thai for many years and always have a lovely time. Food is delicious, staff friendly, service good and a good atmosphere. I have my work Christmas do here and my favourite place for my birthday meal out, as well as going regularly just for a night out. Highly recommend.

Staff were friendly,waited along time for food in stages!! they brought the rice out 20mins beforehand which was cold by the time they brought individual dishes out,nothing arrived together and it wasn't the most pleasant of places too sit a long time and wait for your food,when it eventually all arrived it was awful tasteless and cold so disappointed as this was recommended but it's a NO from us

Service is excellent. Food was fabulous. Maybe I was with good company, maybe it was the atmosphere. Throughly enjoyed the evening. Looking forward to going again very soon.

Outstanding meal Real taste of Thai food 😋 Glad we'd booked a table for 4 as Friday evening was busy (a good sign) Huge menu! Loved the mixed starter platter. Really tasty Tom Yum shrimp 🍤 soup was warm but not lip numbingly hit as I've had at some restaurants Penang curry delicious Mrs B's Pad Thai was divine. Light ansld packed with peanuts Highly recommended 🇹🇭

Popped into Tast Of Thai for lunch whilst visiting Ashby de la Zouch , the food and service were excellent and the lunchtime fixed price menu was almost unbelievable value.

Bang average food and overly expensive. I've had better takeaways but not many worse. It's not really Thai cuisine either, it's a bit of a mish-mash in fact. Very disappointed.

We went last week for some food and were very disappointed with what we had We ordered a bottle of red and 3 starters but due to the quality of them we decided not to eat anything else and left  Numbers 1,6 & 7. They were terrible and almost inedible. The wontons were so dry and over cooked we had to cut them to eat them. Rather than leaving a review, I emailed them about our visit so give them the benefit of the doubt. Its been a week and I haven't heard a thing from them so I have put the review on here. What an absolute mess that they can't even reply to emails about really disappointing visit We spent £50 including a bottle of red we we took with us!!!

Fantastic food, lots of choice. Staff great and friendly. Make sure you book as get very busy!

First time at the restaurant. Menu is extensive with plenty of choice. The food was excellent and they did not compromise on spice or flavour. Good portions and fresh authentic ingredients. The only negative was that the house wine was a little pricey. Would go again though as the food was delicious.

Allergy beware Called in at lunch time to try this place first impressions neglected dated decor and dirty doors. Notified staff of gluten allergy. Ordered pad Thai with tofu staff came back said tofu had gluten but could do me a vegetarian pad Thai. When it arrived half way through eating it had a piece of tofu in it,veg served cabbage and carrot that were slimy and clearly belonged in the bin. Complained staff ignored me and still charged us. Cross contamination is dangerous for allergy suffers. Profit came first appears they made the tofu dish picked it out and still served it placing me at risk . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone with allergies as they clearly do not understand the risks or care.

Dropped in for lunch and had a great meal. Tempura Prawns to start and delicious Massaman curry for main. Reasonable price and really friendly service.

This was a first time visit for my wife and I, and we booked a table for a Sunday evening as a birthday treat. We came across the restaurant quite by accident when searching for somewhere to dine on the internet. What an inspired choice it turned out to be. We chose a set meal for two, which comprised of a mixed Thai platter, the main meal consisted of 3 delicious dishes, followed by an ice cream dessert. The whole meal was excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive and it’s a very nice venue. We will be going back again next month to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Very happy to recommend a taste of Thai.

Always fantastic every time we go. The couple that own the restaurant are very kind and the food is always excellent. I’d recommend them for a takeaway or a dine in experience.

Absolutely lovely meal,however this restaurant needs a good refurb the decor is dated and really grubby.

A Mix of Delightful Cuisine and Unfortunate Service I recently dined at your Thai restaurant with my parents and partner, and while the food was generally good, there are some aspects of the service that I hope you consider seriously. Starters: The calamari was fresh and crispy, although the platter for 2 felt a bit sparse with only two of each item. Mains: The steamed sea bass was exceptional. The green, red and massaman curries we sampled were good and packed quite a punch, especially the green curry. The fried rice and the late-delivered coconut rice were satisfactory, but what truly stood out was the sincere apology from the chef, who went out of his way to address the oversight. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming, seamlessly blending Thai-inspired decor with the rustic setting of an old English building. The gold bamboo-esque cutlery added a unique touch. However, the dining experience was marred by one particular staff member, presumably in a managerial role. His aggressive and hostile behaviour towards the staff was unsettling. While the wait staff were friendly and professional, this individual's conduct overshadowed the positive aspects of our visit. His actions, including snatching plates out of their hands and hissing at them, created an uncomfortable atmosphere for both patrons and staff. Constructively, I urge a thorough review of this staff member's behaviour, as it significantly impacted an otherwise decent dining experience. Encouraging and supporting the team, rather than undermining them, would undoubtedly contribute to a more enjoyable and harmonious dining atmosphere. In conclusion, we enjoyed the culinary offerings of your establishment, and the sea bass alone is worthy of a return visit. However, addressing the issues with the aggressive staff member is crucial for sustaining a positive reputation and ensuring a pleasant dining experience for all patrons.

We read the reviews and booked a table for Saturday night. We were not disappointed. Excellent value for money, very friendly owners and staff and amazing food. We had a sharing menu for 2 as we couldn’t decide and loved everything. Would we come back - without hesitation. Shame we live so far away. Book here - you won’t be disappointed.

Nice attitude…. Not !! Called in for takeaway , after our usual Chinese takeaway was closed. The guy at the counter taking the order was rude and had no manners at all. Slammed my change down on the counter , this guy should NOT be in a customer facing role . Don’t they have please and thank you in the Thai vocabulary ? Food was ok but that dude needs to go …. Really.

The thing is, when somewhere you eat seems grubby and tired, it kind of puts you off your food. Which wasn't that bad, all things considered, but c'mon, what do you expect your customers to imagine your kitchens are like when you crunch your way up the stairs to the toilets?

Lovely setting and atmosphere; good service. Every dish was delicious - really fresh, fragrant & lots of crisp vegetables in the curries. Will definitely be back!

First time we'd experience this restaurant. Very welcoming, amazing food, great flavours, very well looked after. We will certainly return, and next time, we will want to experience a weekend atmosphere, as a little quiet last night being a Wednesday evening.

Fantastic vegetarian lunch a couple of weeks ago. Wonderful service too. Going back today😋 I only gave the low score for atmosphere because there was nobody in there but us. It's so good, at such a good price, I don't understand why its not packed at lunchtimes. A hidden gem indeed.

Absolutely delightful place! Lovely food at an incredible price, been multiple times and have always enjoyed the food. Best thai I know about!

Saw the board outside but the door was shut and the restaurant looked closed but wasn't. Several other people thought the same. So as we looked at the menu outside, got chatting to another couple whom had never been before either but had 2 couples highly recommend the place. So we tried the midweek lunch of 4 courses at £13.95 each. Not being familiar with Thai, chose chicken balls and chicken satay as starters, but were given complimentary prawn crakers beforehand. The presentation was superb with the carrot flower, and both were very tasty. Followed by the a beef red curry, and sweet and sour chicken. The beef and chicken were so tender and moist, and both meals superb. Unfortunately, it looked so delicious I forgot to take photos sadly. We then had a mango sorbet, and chocolate ice cream. Didn't chose tea/coffee as 4 course as had a lovely large glass of Shiraz at £6.95 plus 2 bottled beers at £4 each. Setting lovely & cool inside. Staff were very friendly and attentive without being in your face. Would highly recommend. Will be returning to have an evening meal soon.

Old skool, very nice experience. Seasoned hosts, with established, perfected menu. A little limited in choice, but I imagine everything would be as enjoyable as what we ordered. Excellent service. Will be going again.

The food was absolutely delicious & the staff were an absolute delight. The lunch menu is a real bargain - I just wish we lived closer to go regularly as we absolutely would!

A regular visitor over the years whenever visiting Ashby, which admittedly isn't often. Never eaten anywhere else in Ashby because we always go there, which must say something. Food is great and great value. Only downside is diet coke is always flat...must be from a half used bottle or something? Cans would improve things on this front no end. We had standard offerings from the lunch menu...pad Thai, chicken satay red curry. All delish! Always not sure if it's open...it looks shut and dark inside when approaching despite sandwich board on pavement and open sign in window. I worry this might put people off visiting a great restaurant for lunch.

Outstanding Thai food for market town. The Taste for 2 menu proved a winner with a great selection of appetizers and 5 main dishes.

Visited for my daughter’s birthday as a family of 5. Food was delicious as always & the service was friendly & attentive. Still the best restaurant in Ashby a mile.

Used to be amazing and favourite venue to eat here but the standard of food, decor, furniture and everything else has pretty much dropped in quality. After the last meal we had I won't be bothering to go back sadly.

A lovely greeting followed by a wonderful tasty meal. Freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Attentive service. Couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommend and a welcome alternative to a traditional Sunday lunch.

Fantastic service and lovely food. We visited as a couple on a Saturday evening and the staff were extremely attentive. Food was delicious and much better than other local Thai restaurants we have visited. Would highly recommend the red thai curry or the massaman and the pad thai noodles were amazing.

Excellent dinner. We went for the vegetarian set menu for the two of us, and it was an absolute treat! Deep-fried aubergine was delicious. Plenty of food and the staff were happy to box up the remaining to take home. Would visit again.

We have eaten at quite a few Thai restaurants but this was nowhere near as good. We didn't think it was authentic Thai food. The place itself is in need of updating, waiting staff were good and working hard. The person who took our order didn't greet us or engage in conversation, he just wanted the order and then on to another table. We won't be returning.

Been here several times now and its decent food. But the place is starting to look neglected from the outside so agree with another reviewer who says it needs a good clean and tidy up. Its a shame because the place is ok.

The "Taste of Thai" is a lovely family run restaurant in the main street of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. We hadn't been back in recent times because of family priorities and the Pandemic restrictions. However, we returned the other evening and found it to be just as good and friendly as before. It was also busy, which is always a measure of good restaurants.

While this place may get good reviews for food.. the ‘shop frontage’ of this restaurant is a disgrace. It’s windows are dirty, unwashed and unkept. The paint is peeling and it looks utterly neglected. I just hope the kitchen is a whole lot cleaner. Come on management sort it out. You’re letting the side down! Ashby deserves better than this.

I have been going to the restaurant since 2015. I have been to Thailand several times so I can assure the authenticity of it. Starting with the staff , always very polite and smiling , which is typical of the country were they are from....

Amazing quality food, ordered with friends and we enjoyed the meal massively. Food was ready in good time. Would definitely order again.

Ate here for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious. We had one of the set menus and the food was exceptional for the price. Service and staff were polite and very attentive. Will definitely be returning!

Restaurant and take away Thai cuisine. Pretty average food but good fast service. Fills a gap in the local market for variety of cuisine in this market town.

Bad service but absolutely beautiful food. Me and my partner had a set 3 course meal the starter and the main was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Unfortunately we did not stay for the last course this is because the service was just way over the top. I suffer from severe anxiety but because it was my birthday we wished to celebrate at Taste of Thai which was recommended by a friend. We felt extremely uncomfortable and rushed, we had waiters surrounding us and waiters hovering around us waiting for us to finish. We kept getting asked if we had finished eating although food was still remaining on our plates. We felt extremely rushed and not comfortable at all. I would recommend perhaps takeaway or delivery if they deliver. Did not like the restaurant environment at all and felt that the staff was very rude in regards to giving us time to eat and relax comfortably.

I can’t recall how many times I have recommended Taste of Thai to anybody who would listen. I lived in Thailand and have also visited many times in the last 15 years (so I’d like to think I know good Thai food) and can say...

Food was great value and absolutely superb. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and they catered for a coeliac with ease. Many of the options on the menu were gluten free. Excellent allergy information all round and it felt like the coeliac in the group had a really varied choice, rather than just "making do" as is often the case. Highly recommended.

Had a great meal here opting for the set menu which provided broad spectrum of dishes.The food arrived quickly although the place was very busy. Very tasty dishes and pleasant attentive staff rounded off the experience. I would recommend a seat away from the door so booking is essential. A return visit is highly anticipated.

My first try of Thai food and I wasn’t disappointed. My sister and I shared a vegetarian platter for two. It was a banquet to say the least, lots of food beautifully cooked and presented, we took a doggy bay home, I think next time I may go for the scallops. Lovely setting and a warm welcome, staff are knowledgable and friendly, we hadn’t booked and arrived at just after 7, it soon filled up even on a Wednesday evening, so I would book. .

Called in for lunch. The staff were very welcoming and we loved the traditional interior. We ordered the platter to start followed by Khao Soi and Pork in holy basil. A few Chang beers too. Absolutely exceptional. Can highly recommend.

Visited Taste of Thai Saturday evening for dinner. The decor is very dated and tired but the food was excellent. Great choice of dishes on the menu. We had the traditional red + green curry which were both excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and offered a great service. Overall great food.!!!

Brought here by eldest daughter (whilst visiting her in Coalville) on a busy Summer Saturday evening. The place was bustling but service was excellent, the food delicious, came in good sized portions and is at the spicy end of the spectrum. We tend to order the same dishes all over the country so can make direct comparisons. The Tom Yum soup was very flavourful and loaded with chicken and the Som Tum papaya salad was to die for. They had managed to blend chili heat and sharp lime with an unusual sweetness not found in may other places, and there were plenty of crunchy toasted peanuts, a great accompaniment to the beef basil and chili stir-fry. My only negative comment would be the Chang beer, a bit rough and not complementing the Thai food as well as Singha. It can surely only be for cost considerations that they stock it I've drunk enough of it in Thailand to pay premium prices in the UK. Still, that alone was insufficient to detract from a full 15-star rating! I'm only sorry I don't live locally, I would be a regular.

Finally visited after years of thinking must give it a try. The decor hasn’t changed since the 70-80’s. the staff/owners are very friendly and welcoming. It was half full on a Tuesday evening, seemed to be regular locals. We ordered the set menu b, the starter was great. We also enjoyed the main dishes except for the fishy one. I wanted to go for the Thai experience but it’s no different to most Chinese’s, ticked it of the try list, don’t think I’ll go back. But if you’re in Ashby it’s worth a visit

Had a lovely evening meal to celebrate wife’s birthday. Excellent food and service. Staff very friendly and helpful. Service was very fast even though they were quite busy.

A large party of us ate here last weekend. 2 of the starters were forgotten about and weren’t taken off the bill which I would have expected considering there was a 10 min wait whilst everyone else finished. The mains were ok - not amazing. They kept bringing beers when we hadn’t ordered them. Having said this, we had a good evening.

Had a good meal here, good service and a huge choice of dishes. Shame there is no draught beer though.
