Taste of China in Scarborough

By far the worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever eaten. The food was barely edible and all went in the bin. Just Eat refused to refund the meal so wasted £35 for nothing and had to order again from somewhere else. Firstly the sweet and sour sauce was like water with no taste. The crispy beef was just overcooked batter with no beef in it. The prawns were cold and slightly undercooked. The chips were barely lukewarm. Curry sauce was lumpy. To top it all off the delivery driver was rude and ignorant when he delivered it, just threw the food to me and walked off, didn’t even say anything at all. Maybe it was our mistake for ordering an hour before you closed as it seems like we were sent the days leftovers. Looking at the other reviews on here, everyone else feels the same way too

Glorified cardboard. Can the owner please tell me if they watered down my sweet and sour sauce(definitely was) to travelodge on Monday the 22nd of July… chips woefully undercooked and under seasoned, salt and pepper chicken chewey and again under seasoned, even that could be excused by nice sweet and sour sauce of which it was watery and near tasteless !😂 most flavourful extra was the prawn crackers and if they’re the most edible part of a Chinese takeaway you’re doing something wrong. Hope the others in Scarborough are better for locals sake take a trip to York and try them Jesus what a waste of 23 quid fs

Delivery quickly and delicious food 👍👍

The food tasted awful, nothing to do with personal taste, 3 people had different things of your menu and 3 people had to throw food away, it tasted disgusting, looked like it was off and tasted like it too. You can't excuse those facts by saying its personal taste, the food was at a level that was unacceptable and I find it unacceptable that you fob it off as personal taste, It was awful, not upto standard. We will never buy food from here again.

My mother ordered food from here last night and it tasted awful, they had to throw it away, waste of money. Please don't bother. Taste of sewage, not china

Ordered an egg foo young from here to be delivered, it arrived ok and on time , but my god it tasted like the eggs were rotten, moldy taste, sweet and sour pork balls that were tough as a bulls, and run down sauce. Yuck definitely never again

Food is hot and staff are friendly

Food very bland. Sweet and sour tastes watered down special chowmain hardly no meat in and tasteless probly the worse Chinese iv tried in Scarborough. Wont be coming back until I know a new chef is on unfortunately

They short changed me twice now. Suppose to get a 10% discount for walk in orders paying cash. Not clean. Not friendly. Won't be back.

Top class food used for years now best Chinese in Scarborough for me

Ordered a special wandering dragon and bbq ribs. Nothing special about wandering in what tastes like a slightly chinese gravy. However, surprisingly enough, the ribs were also in a similar non bbq gravy.

Had special fried rice and was pretty good. Great value for money

Have been going here for years. Its great always. Tonight it was really quick. Really fresh and spot on. We always get chicken wings with out the chilli. I had king prawns with cashew nuts and calamari. Mrs had chicken balls. Reccomend it.

Just what I needed after a long day, a good Chinese and reasonable price, you get 10% off when you order in the shop. Cash only.

Food bland and tasteless. Nothing special about special foo yung as meat content nearly all chicken. Offer of 10% discount but fried rice charged £3.40 not £2.10 as advertised which more than cancelled £1.03 discount. Even with discount most I have ever paid for this dish.

£16 for a tray of cold soggy chips. I ordered the special mix box, inside was 2 x chicken balls, 2 x salt and paper wings and 1 x small bbq rib. Rest was cold soggy chips. Absolute scam. Would not recommend this at all. And took a lifetime to deliver.

Absolutely gross! Wish I’d have seen the reviews before I ordered. I’m not from the area & was hungry so just ordered. The crispy shredded beef was all stuck together in a big lump, nothing crispy about it. The prawn crackers were dry. I got 1/4 duck & it was basically a dish full of bird fat. Never again

First time from here but definitely not our last . Food arrived on time and piping hot. I've never had urdon noodles before but delicious and filling Rest of food also just as tasty 10/10..

The worst food I have ever had in my life ( ordered 10 £ worth of food and through it right into the trash bin after 1 bite, I have never done such a thing in my life ), I would starve to death rather than eat from here again ( I even asked for refund but they refused ) just terrible avoid at all cost .

Great food, just like in our home town, didn't read reviews before ordering, glad we didn't as best around, we travel from filey when on holiday just for a takeaway. We get sweet and sour chicken, and kung po chicken, never had a bad meal.

Avoid at all accounts! No taste in anything we ordered. Curry sauce like water and so was sweet and sour sauce. So disappointing. We were both ill next day, on toilet most the day

Absolutely disgusting food & service!! Ordered chips mixed with curry sauce & some ribs, they charged me a ridiculous £10 for. Asked on the phone if the chips were homemade which I was told yes. So thought that might be why the price is so high for 2 things.. only to receive my ribs undercooked & OVEN chips that were cold with a splash of curry on them? FOR £10!? I could have done a better job at home. & then when I rang back was told I'm basically a liar and not everyone can make homemade chips??? an they then hung up. Will never be ordering from there again! So disappointed.

Never again. Salt and pepper chips with no salt and no peppers! bland rubber chips and about a fivers worth of food! Gone in the bin! The ribs are just floppy fat! The only taste was the onion . AVOID AVOID AVOID! Waste of money. Only 1 star because I can’t give any lower!

Ordered at approx 19:00, quoted an hour for delivery which is typically standard. At 20:10 I called to enquire my order was still coming, the rude man on the phone stated my food was still awaiting to be taken out by a delivery driver, quoted me no longer than 30 minutes over the phone. Another 40 minutes pass and another phone call, before I could even explain who I was, and what I wanted, the man on the phone said my food was with the delivery driver. Approx 10 minutes later a knock on the door and a rude "here you go" from the delivery driver and we had our food, a full 2 hours after ordering. I let the feeling of anger and disappointment fly over my head. We finally had our food. After unpacking the food there was some missing. I immediately filled with rage and dialled the number back for the 3rd time. Took a while to answer and no "Taste of China" introduction just a plain "what?" I explained rather angrily that after waiting for 2 hours for our food they couldn't even get the order right. The man on the other end of the phone, no apology and stated that it wasn't on the order. After checking the receipt for myself it wasn't even listed. After all this nonsense, no apology, no offer to try out things right. Called another local Scarborough Chinese I was familiar with and placed an order for my missing chow mein. It arrived in around 30 minutes, half the time stated for delivery and food was piping hot. You've lost my custom taste of China.

Second time I have ordered from here recently due to the fact that they offer deliveries when many Chinese takeaways don't. On both occasions the food has been excellent, delivered on time, piping hot and very tasty. Highly recommended, wouldn't hesitate to order again!

Ordered at 6pm...for a delivery at 8.15...got a txt to say it would be late and would now be delivered at 9.15...came t 9.25..when delivered there was no explanation/apology...never said a word...the whole idea of ordering so early was that we didn't have to wait...not fantastic and will certainly be the last time we use them..

Before ordering on just eat the wait time said 60 to 80 minutes. Placed order at 19:05, once paid, the delivery time changed to 20:55. Annoyed as it was longer so tried to cancel it. Was told that I could only have half a refund as they had already started preparing my food!? 2 hours before it was going to arrive! Decided to just stick with it. Got to 21:00 and asked for an update. Recieved a text to say it would now be 21:35. Rang the restaurant to complain and spoke to a very rude unhelpful man. I asked him how long it was really going to be and he couldn't give me a straight answer, so I said if it's going to be any longer than another half an hour I want to cancel. Then I received a message from justeat to confirm the restaurant had cancelled my order so obviously it was going to be a lot longer than 21:35. Its the lies that really irritate me. Will never order from here again. Hire another delivery driver if you are that busy!

The second time I have ordered from this place, placed order at half past seven was told it would arrive at ten past nine, arrived at ten o'clock after ringing to find were it was, will not be using again

Took over 2 hours to arrive and was later than the time they said. Food was only lukewarm and it was all very greasy. Some of the food was clearly undercooked and ended up binning most of it. Really not impressed, avoid this place and take your money elsewhere.

Late as always, food didn't taste right and veg spring rolls were heavily undercooked. The delivery driver was a bit rude too and definitely wasn't contactless delivery (like I requested when placing my order on Just eat) he just shoved it in my face. Will not be ordering from there again. Also the food was lukewarm when it arrived and not to sound like a Karen but it's just not good enough. Plenty of other wonderful Chinese takeaways in Scarborough. This is one to avoid!

Waited over 2 hours for our order, called and then they cancelled it. Time wasters.Avoid.

Absolute pots of toss. Ordered our food at 5.45pm told it was coming at 7.15pm it never arrived. Called to see where our order was and they were very snappy and just cancelled my order and hung up on me. Terrible customer service. Avoid at all costs.

2.5 hours later no delivery. They don't answer the phone just eat had to cancel our order. Really bad.

This place is an absolute joke!! Ordered from this place many times and even have their menu's in our pub for customers to order delivery and eat in. One of our customers have just telephoned for a large order for 5 people to be told they won't deliver it because of someone shouted in the background that one of the letters of the postcode was "s, for shaggy" which I must add was the singer of the last song he had put on the jukebox! Customer was told his language was inappropriate and order would not be taken! How pathetic! Good business lost and menus currently burning in the open fire! 👌

We ordered our food and was told an hour wait ... fine one and a half hours later we were very rudely told another half hour, when I complained all I got was short staffed cancel order then get a refund .. will NEVER use this place again !!!!

Pretended he couldn't hear me when I asked for delivery, he did this twice . When I rang a third time and asked for a collection order his ears worked fine! F*ck this place !

The food is ok, but the man taking the orders couldn't care less, very unfriendly, I don't feel welcome as a customer at all. Lose the attitude, and I'll raise my rating. Simple.

Do not order from this take away we HAD been customers for years, but we placed an order and it never turned up so by 8:30 we phoned only to be told by the (as usual) miserable man on the phone that he never took an order from us....errrm yeah you did fella or why would we even bother phoning up t c where it is? avoid this place!

First time we've ordered from here; an hour and 10 for delivery but on a Saturday night we can't complain because the food is really good! Can't complain about the price either. So glad to have found a decent chinese take away!

The food was plain tasting and the chicken balls were doughy and the chicken didn't taste fully cooked. If you order food with a lot of sauce, you don't get much else with it. Overall didn't enjoy the food.

I have used Taste of China for the last 8 or so years and always enjoyed the food which always was delivered promptly and with good customer service; after the last 3 orders since November I will never use them again. Old, badly prepped food that takes 2 hours to arrive is not what I want. The last takeaway we ordered was mostly thrown on the bin because dishes were either full of grease (prawn toast, spring rolls) or tasted old and reheated (Kung Po Chicken, Malaysian Crisp chicken). Our delivery driver also left half of our order in his car which after ringing the takeaway arrived after another 15 mins or so. Do not order from here at a weekend or Friday eve if you don't have 2 hours to wait for food that tastes like it was cooked a few days ago. Very disappointing.

By far the best Chinese takeaway in Scarborough and certainly NOT the same old, same old. Salt & pepper squid and prawns to die for and seafood udon noodles equally so. Staff not overly friendly but that might be a culture/language thing. Certainly wouldn't put me off using them.

Ordered at 5:25 off just eat. its now half past 7 and still no show. Already paid and did not recieve an email or text to say it was running late. Rang up and they just said "oh were running late". Two and a half hours is ridiculus Absolutley disgusting if you ask me. Hope we recieve a discount or free items to apologise for the delay.

We ordered over 50 minutes for our food a simple curry and rice and we ring up to ask where our food is and the person on the phone was rude and insisted we waited another 30 minutes because our food wasn’t ready surely it doesn’t take over an hour to make a curry I’m no chef but that’s bad! Won’t be going again rude staff, really long wait times! not impressed 👎🏼

Average fare at best. Same old same old. Chinese takeaways in Scarborough have lost the ability to prepare and flavour their food, bought in and thrown in the frier. Don't expect better here cause you won't find it.
