Tariff & Dale in Manchester

The girl who served us had about as much personality as a piece of wood. She didn't smile or converse once. She virtually slammed our drinks down. The toilets were abysmal. Heavy black mold in one toilet that made it unusable. They were dark & dingy. The ceiling looked like it was about to fall down.

A bar with some nice vibes. Will go again.

Stumbled across this place and was pleasantly surprised. Staff are incredibly attentive and free pizza on Thursday was a lovely touch! Very tasty pizza.

I came in here on an early Friday afternoon for a client meeting and some drinks and there is a little booth that has been made out of the lift shaft which is absolutely insane. If you shiny up there it really does feel surreal. What a great use of this space The service is all lovely and very friendly and would happily recommend this place for somebody wanting a few drinks

I had the cheeseburger for lunch, which was nice, but at £15 plus a cheeky 10% service charge was a bit meagre with just a few fries to accompany it. No complaints, but it's fairly pricey here.

I come to Tarrif and Dale a couple times a week and went in for my usual. The bar maid with dark hair and tattoos on her left arm poured my cider about 1.5” short. I asked for my drink to be topped up which I think is reasonable. I don’t want to be awkward but if you pay for a pint, you expect a pint. She put a splash in (which didn’t make a difference) and slung my drink down. I sensed an attitude. Although I appreciate how hard it is to work in hospitality (considering I work in it myself) and you may have hard days, it’s disappointing to receive this kind of service as the rest of the staff are lovely. But this service really angered me as it’s my favourite local and I don’t want to go in again if I receive this kind of service from her. This might be a one off, although I think it needs addressing as it has severely damaged my opinion of the place.

Calling that loud noise music is a compliment. The bass at an exaggerated level, as if having a lot of bass was cool. Overly spicy English food, far from the quality of Italian food. Experience not to be repeated. The waitress with reddish hair was very patient and kind.

Friendly staff, tasty food. I had the classic cheeseburger. The burger was juicy and great with the truffle fries.

Popped into T&D after a film on Wednesday evening, & it was a perfect choice. This venue is good at any time of the day but it was late eveninv, low lighting, attebtive, welcoming & friendly team members & great wine. Pricing was perfect & we stayed for a few We were the last 2 people in the venue as the bar team closed down, yet they legt us to it, did not rush us to leave & were very polite when we did The music, vibe & all round feel of this place is perfect great venue, can't fault it

The bar staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. My friend and I had a couple of cocktails each that were both delicious and expertly made. A nice place to stop and have a drink. It was quiet when we visited but it was a Friday afternoon and I’m sure it picks up once people finish work for the weekend etc. A rustic and cosy vibe with plenty of seating and a great selection of drinks. We didn’t eat the food having already eaten but it did smell tasty!

Finalmente resultó que teníamos una mesa en el bar de arriba. Nos habría costado encontrar una mesa en otro lugar con tan poco tiempo de antelación en un sábado, así que tuvimos que quedarnos. La comida y el personal eran geniales, pero no era absolutamente la experiencia que queríamos o esperábamos. El bar estaba lleno de gente bebiendo y haciendo mucho ruido (no es su culpa) , y la música era demasiado alta. Estábamos cortos 1 entrante cuando vinieron - me imagino porque la camarera no podía oírnos correctamente cuando estábamos pidiendo - y no podíamos oírnos hablar. Es pobre que nos trasladaran arriba sin ser informados de antemano - no habríamos venido si lo hubiéramos sabido. Afortunadamente el personal (muy amable y servicial) y la comida salvó la noche ligeramente, pero fue muy decepcionante, especialmente para lo que se suponía que iba a ser una ocasión especial, y una para la que mis padres habían viajado mucho.

I don’t like having to write negative reviews, but following our visit I received an email asking for feedback which I responded to with a complaint, but never heard back. I had written the below and would have liked a response: I came on Saturday evening with my parents to celebrate my graduation, having booked a table in the restaurant 2 weeks ago. We turned up to find the restaurant set up for a private function, and staff were confused as to why we had a booking. It eventually turned out that we had a table in the bar upstairs. We would have struggled to find a table elsewhere at such short notice on a Saturday, so had to stay. The food and staff were great, but it was absolutely not the experience we wanted or expected. The bar was full of people drinking and being very loud (not their fault), and the music was far too loud. We were short 1 starter when they came - I imagine because the waitress couldn’t hear us properly when we were ordering - and we couldn’t hear each other speak. It’s poor that we were moved upstairs without being made aware beforehand - we would not have come had we known. Thankfully the staff (very friendly and helpful) and the food saved the evening slightly, but it was very disappointing, especially for what was supposed to be a special occasion, and one for which my parents had travelled a long way.

Mixed Experience: Great Food, Unpleasant Wait Staff I recently visited tariff and dale for the first time to meet friends for Sunday dinner. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by friendly and the informative staff. The bar person was very helpful in assisting us with drink selections, and the person seating us was exemplary in their friendliness and helpfulness, making us feel welcome right from the start. However, the experience took a sour turn when a red-headed staff member with a sour mood began serving us. She slammed drinks on the table, just a general unpleasant, made she was having a bad day but she made sure she let us know about it, with her abrupt attitude, haste for us to leave it seemed and hence making us feel unwelcome. This behavior was noticed by everyone at our table, and it was disappointing so much so we paid and prefer to go to another bar to carry on drinking, I could only think she might of been in a rush to finish and go home, as there wasn’t anyone else, we were the only table dining at that time. Unfortunately, this unpleasant interaction with the staff member is the sole reason I cannot give this establishment a 5-star rating. Despite the setback with the staff member, the food at tariff and dale was outstanding. The Sunday Roast was exceptional, and everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The quality of the food was top-notch, and the portions were just right, offering great value for the money spent. In conclusion, while the food at tariff and dale was undeniably delicious and satisfying, the unpleasant experience with one particular staff member marred an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. I hope that the management addresses such behavior to ensure that all guests feel welcomed and valued during their visit at all stages of there visit waiting staff shouldn’t be clearing tables until every one on the tables finish eating, or they’ve been asked to.

Cool bar, great atmosphere and the free pizza is genius - has made us return on a regular basis after work.

We ordered margarita pizza and spiced crispy chicken burger with fries. The pizza was delicious, the sauce was very tasty and overall the pizza was very fresh and the dough was perfectly made. Burger was one of the best I've eaten in a long time. Fries also came in nicely seasoned. Overall great food, quick and friendly service, nice mocktails made at request based on preferences. All that at a very reasonable price, would definitely recommend. 👍

Food is over priced for what it is and drinks aren't cheap either. Handily placed though and always busy so will always attract footfall. If it was a few quid cheaper it would be ace

Beautiful cocktails, nice food, excellent staff. However we arrived about 45 minutes before the DJ. Could you take the DJs volume control away please? She continually increased the volume as the crowd tried to hold a conversation over her. Perhaps explain the concept of ambiance and that her music is a compliment to the atmosphere, not the main event?

I'm from Canada, I've been here 4 years out of 5. Damn COVID! I think that says it all.

I wanted to leave a review to make sure no one suffers the same fate as us... the worst chicken wings I've ever had. I felt the skins were under done, all soft and chewy, not very satisfying. And the coating or sauce was not only tastless, it was dry in places? Like they'd been sat under a heat lamp for ages? Really bad, couldn't finished them, which is unlike me! The rest of the place was fine, like most trendy bars in the NQ. Typical crazy Manchester drinks prices.

Very nice Sunday Lunch, well presented and lovely to eat. However, I would advise checking your bill as I found out later that I'd been overcharged.

made a reservation but it was relaxed and quiet when I was there. the menu was of a good size and the service was suitably attentive. The food was good. I had the burger and was of a good size and well-cooked. ordered the thick-cut chips, the inside could be softer. One disappointment was that the bill came with a "discretionary service charge". I had them take it off

Really lovely food in the classy looking but down-to-earth early evening atmosphere of the cellar restaurant at Tariff and Dale. We had the Goat's Cheese Filo Parcels, Classic Chicken Burger, Sea Bass, Sticky Toffee Pudding and erm, Churo sticks (not Affogato 😀) between us and all were excellent. Decently kept beer, lovely gin and some seriously great sounding/ looking cocktails on the menu too. Great and attentive service (from Lucy) as well. Loved it and will try to come back next time we're in town

Huge place and lots of room to get a seat and a drink. lots of people using wi fi with laptops etc. Jess our server was very friendly. We did not eat. Worth a visit.

Great Masjid that holds Jummah prayer in Manchester City Centre. Perfect for those working and studying nearby. Always full on Fridays. Go up the staircase to the 2nd floor and you'll find the prayer area. Women's facilities available too.

Called into this bar for a bite to eat on the way to the cricket. The upstairs bar was very busy with a lively atmosphere and food service. We ate in the downstairs restaurant area which was much quieter. The wait staff were very friendly and the service was quick. Food was good but not exceptional and reasonably priced. Overall a good pub

The real test of a bar is when you go out in Manchester on a Monday night and have the BEST time! (We felt the after effects the next day thou) The team were welcoming with great service and energy:) It was my partners 50th Birthday... after visiting a few other bars in area that were opting to close early...it was fabulous to find a bar that knew how to show us an amazing time. Great Vibe with mix of ages. We enjoyed pints and some skilled cocktail making...will have to try the food next time:) Already started recommending to our guests as you are within staggering distance of our short term let accommodation. Thankyou!

Excellent service and super food. Pub grub but all very nice. Lovely atmosphere for a group night out. Recommend the burger and also the pizzas. Staff were very attentive and accommodating. My only criticism is there was only one lager on tap.

Had high expectations after reading great reviews, but was left very underwhelmed. Venue itself looks great, but the food is average and nothing special and the service was very poor. We felt like an inconvenience to our waitress, she kept walking away from us every time we were trying to get her attention and just didn't seem to care if we had a nice time or not. She didn't offer us more drinks, or see if everything ok with the food. 10% service charge must be a joke on the bill too. Please train the staff better, or get better staff that want to work there.

A nice relaxed space and friendly staff. Menu is misleading though, as they don’t serve pizzas (or dough balls) on a Sunday. Fairly standard as roasts take precedence, but lack of clarity on the menu meant the employee had to come twice to our table to apologise. Pesto pasta tasty though (Lucas is autistic, he was enjoying it!)

Came here on a food tour and had the pork roll which was by far my favorite food of the whole tour, everyone loved it. Unfortunately the venue needs a bit of TLC, while they are clearly trying to retain original features and an industrial vibe, things like the toilets were a bit dank and unpleasant.

I have been banned from the venue since February. Initially this was supposed to be investigated and someone was supposed to come back to me to explain why but the never did. Apparently entering the venue in April yielded the same results. This is an issue instigated by the Ops Manager that intended me harm in another venue (Sherlock's) outside of Tariff and Dale. He tried to physically hurt someone almost twice his age in a drunken aggressive state. However I am not a lightweight with alcohol nor am I a weak person. When he could not bully me like he does his staff he banned me from accessing the venue for no reason. I have never had an issue with the employees who I see at other venues constantly. Typically this execution is done when someone does some unwanted action at the venue or to the employees. It should never happen when an employee is aggressive to a customer for no reason. Was it because I am in a more prestigious position, make more money, my age, or my race? Unsure of which or if it was a combination of all of them. I could care less to go in again but I have shared this with my corporation so that they do not have to deal with the same behaviour. While I agree with banning negative people, when you are the negative person, bullying your employees for your self-esteem and fascist thinking is wrong. I found out that this ban is ongoing and I am okay with that because I can afford to go elsewhere. I am more than capable to cook myself, better than most. The sad thing is that this has happened to others afraid to voice their dismay with the bullying and poor treatment. This will lead to legal action if allowed to continue. The owner(s) should investigate and adjust as they see fit. The food was decent but nothing I would or will miss with my other options. Not a comfortable venue to visit. Last visit was attempted on April 4th.

I was in Manchester for a business trip and after many days of meat, I have decided to take an Italian Pizza. I was really surprised: the Margherita with ham I took was more or less like the one I take in Italy. Also the Coffin Pannacotta is delicious. The location is really nice: you have to go downstairs for the restaurant. Highly suggested!

Undeniably good food. The overall customer experience just a bit too basic and underwhelming. We had cheeseburgers and one sirloin. All very well cooked. Burger with a bowl of thick cut chips. Steak likewise. You need to order extra sides which left the steak appearing somewhat solitary. No condiments on the table or offer of sauce or vinegar etc. Waitress became progressively more busy as the restaurant filled up so we lacked timely service for drinks and bill. Yet a standard service charge added. I would have left a tip, but valued at the level of service we were provided.

Hoping to go back another time soon and give a better review but we went for Sunday lunch yesterday and had an okay but not great time. + Nice environment - restaurant downstairs and bar/food area upstairs, with a pool table tucked away if that's your thing An OK Sunday lunch (more below) - I had the pork, my partner the beef - both meats were quite nice. Pretty small portion of pork though. Nice choice of keg beers - Pretty uninspiring Sunday lunch - very potato heavy, no greens at all on my partners plate (just potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and a Yorkshire pudding). It was all fine, but there are far better Sunday lunches in Manchester. Service was bordering on rude. We weren't seen for a few minutes and often nobody was on the restaurant floor, when they came over it felt like we were getting in the way, we had to ask more than once for some things. No cask beers on.

Great place for a couple of drinks that has an intimate cosy vibe but is still modern with plenty of space. Staff are super friendly and really attentive, drink selection is well varied and the prices are what you would expect for any NQ bar. The DJ was good and it wasn't too loud so you can actually hear each other speak.

Hi everyone we found Tariff & Dale it’s a great bar. It has great food ( easy and uncomplicated). Drinks are the best prepared in the northern quarter. Decor is artistic and modernist and we felt the vibe of people, drinks and ambiance. However the DJ is a disaster he is not playing to the crowd people were leaving because he lost them. 1990s and 2000a songs that he obviously felt were fitting to the far more superior surroundings and clientele, which they were not. Huge opportunity to get music that is far more a NOW pop, trance, house and rock. Just because one woman dances doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for the beautiful bar and professional bar and restaurant team. Our personal opinion that a DJ in a bar should be the cherry on the top of already delicious desert. Not the “sticky carpet” …. Love the bar change the DJ in our opinion you could have a really great vibe without the gangster rap.

We’d been here before a few times but not on a Saturday night and never again. We reserved the lift shaft for 6pm drinks and eats with a girlfriend. The food (different pizza) and drink (wine and beer) were good, as was the service by Maja, but after a while a DJ started playing ear-splitting music, which meant we couldn’t hear ourselves think. Looking around, everyone was now leaning in if they wanted to talk to each other! Totally ruined our evening. If we’d wanted a disco there were plenty of other places to go in Manchester. Unfortunately we can't rate whether or not we could hear each other. We left after not much more than an hour and went to a quieter nightclub nearby….. I said we went somewhere quieter!

Absolutely amazing , patient , hardworking staff that ensured my boyfriend & guests had the best time and were well looked after at his surprise party. Which was held in ‘the snug’ area at the back of the bar. Great use of space, they let me decorate & the bouncer joined in to help with surprise. Food was also delicious, very good value for money. Thank you !!

Excellent gluten free options from understanding and well trained staff - nice atmosphere, gluten free beer on tap available too. Highly recommended

Lovely cosy place for a coffee in the afternoon.

Firstly, its a lovely restored place with great decor majoring on cocktails which are probably better value than the beers tbh. The people on the next table were over the moon with their sausage rolls so will just have to try those next time.

More doughballs than any individual could possibly care to eat

The starters of dough balls, cheesesteak & sausage role were great. The mains were very disappointing. The katsu burger was dry and pizza’s were below par. They automatically added service charge which I am not a fan of. Especially when the service wasn’t good.

Tariff & Dale offers 20% off food and drink with a Canal Street card, so I came as a group of 5 for tea. I picked the vegan burger (just like eating a beef patty) and had it with zucchini fries. I also indulged in...

I thought the rump steak was a bit pricy until I tasted it. 5 starts all the way!!!

Initially popped in for a few drinks but saw some Pizzas being served and thought they looked good so decided to eat there. The bar / restaurant itself looks really good and the booths were really comfortable. Drinks are reasonable price - £20 for 4...
