Coffee was recommended by our tour guide. However, we found the service unwelcoming and left without purchasing anything.

It was unfortunate that it was incredibly busy on the Sunday morning we went, despite having a reservation we had to stand and wait for 15 minutes and it generally felt disorganised and stressed which reflected in the staffs welcome. After waiting a member of staff pulled some stools from another place and placed us on the communal tables stands which was disappointing, especially considering we had booked in advance. The food was nice and arrived quick and our server was very lovely. The cafe is pretty and quaint inside, but possibly avoid at the weekend.

We've had a couple of disappointing visits here lately so we're going to look elsewhere for a while. We got a couple of full English breakfasts this morning with filter coffee (batch brew). It was pretty poor. If you're gonna charge £3.50 for a small batch, it should be really good quality. This wasn't that much better than you could make at home with decent supermarket ground coffee. The breakfasts were just alright. The mushrooms were really bland. Everything else was fine, but also just warm. Not very hot. Butter didn't melt on the toast kinda warm. £14 each. Reasonable price if you're making one of the best full English breakfasts in Manchester. Not for a warm plate of food. Would love them to get back to where they were and we'll be regulars again, but felt a bit let down a couple of times now.

The staff is very friendly. The prices are very high in relation to the portion size. The food is nothing special.

Amazing breakfast/brunch spot, food is fantastic and the pastries are unreal, the service has always been outstanding especially James (the manager) who always goes above and beyond. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

The Turkish eggs were excellent. The service was more than wonderful. The employee was cheerful and helpful. She apologized profusely for an unintentional mistake. I recommend them to everyone. The place in general is nice, especially in rainy weather.

Fast service and amazing atmosphere 😍

Our first visit to Pot Kettle Black was made all the more enjoyable by wonderful service from the lovely Anya. We were offered water as soon as we had sat down, a small gesture that makes a difference. Anya was warm, bubbly, delivered service with a smile, and was attentive without being overly so. She knew exactly when to check in on us, was informative about the menu, and was both friendly and professional in her manner The food was really impressive overall, and I cannot wait to return to try out some more items from the menu. Great service though, really does make a difference, and we certainly felt it here.

We found this place for breakfast, while in Manchester for a couple of days. It is in a shopping arcade which doesn't open until 9, but well worth the wait. There are seats inside and out, a friendly relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff. Most importantly, the food was excellent! Eggs Benedict and the Avocado, Feta and Poached Eggs dishes were much enjoyed. Recommended.

The service was super friendly The vibe of the space is great. The menu has traditional choices done in new and interesting ways. Coffee also was great. A great place to treat yourself without breaking the bank.

The food looks delicious but the taste was sadly not. Even the service was late They served the coffee sooo late after we finished our breakfast even when we asked them. Half of the menu were unavailable.

Excellent place to have brunch. Didn't have to wait long for a table. But at busier times it would be advisable to pre book as it can get very busy. Poached egg and avocado on sourdough toast was excellent. Along with a cup of tea. There is a varied menu and coffee/ tea selection. Staff had a warm welcome and where very helpful. Recommended

A really good quality vegan breakfast. Plenty of effort had gone into the meal with home made baked beans, seasoned sweet potatoes and smashed avo with a hint of basil. Delicious! Lovely relaxed environment and friendly staff.

Most of the dishes were delicious, but the strawberries on the French toast were soggy, and the chairs outside were uncomfortable.

Very disappointing experience here! It was set in a lovely arcade and had a nice atmosphere however service was slow and when I informed them that I had a nut allergy I was told I would not be served any cakes or pastries due to cross contamination. When I asked if I could eat anything I was informed no! There seems to have been no thought for those with an allergy in terms of using different utensils, keeping items separate etc. We decided to leave having experienced such poor service.

The food was for breakfast and was generally average The atmosphere is beautiful Breakfast was normal, nothing special There was too much garlic in my dish (turkish egg).

Cappuccino was cold in a tiny cup. I asked to change it but again it’s cold. It might be the restaurant concept to serve cold cappuccino! Foods were tasty. Service was great.

Very nice cafe with great coffees and an impressive menu, that made it hard to choose from! Slightly disappointed that my poached eggs were cold, but I guess that’s what happens when they rest on a cold spread. I would try something different next time. The service was good and the decor is lovely. There is only one toilet for the whole cafe so a bit of a queue was inevitable. Would definitely return to try other options.

I got the Turkish eggs and they were average, not the best I've had and lacked a bit of flavour but the sourdough bread was nice. Nice atmosphere and place in the arcade. Service was OK. Very average experience.

Very nice breakfast excellent staff

Lovely place, the service is always so warm and friendly. We were looked after by Percy who was so kind, and really on it when helping make recommendations regarding allergies and our dietary requirements. Food was gorgeous: vegan brekkie and the bruschetta. Also highly recommended the green smoothie, was worried it might taste a “bit too green” but it was great. Thank you! Xx

Came in here last week for the first time. What a fantastic experience it was! I'm not usually a coffee kinda guy but I had a flat white and it was really nice! Didn't even had to add any sugar. And the salted caramel brownie was absolutely to die for! But none of those holds a candle to the quality of service I received. Everyone I interacted with was very kind and courteous, but one stand-out member of staff would have to be James! Super friendly guy! I came in when it wasn't too too busy so we had the chance to have a small chat and the way he presents himself is fantastic. Incredibly professional, and you can tell he really enjoys taking care of his guests - something I feel is missing in the industry nowadays. Thanks you PKB for leaving such a memorable experience. Will be sure to come back again soon :)

Lovely little cafe in the arcade. We had a nice breakfast there. The young blonde girl was so lovely and welcoming as was the young gentleman who took our orders. The brunette with the nose ring and dot martens, not so much. Felt she was a little ignorant towards me. She didnt give me any eye contact when coming to the table, just my partner, even when we were leaving we said thankyou and goodbye. She completely ignored me but aknowledged my partner. That ruined it a little, as i think you should treat all customers the same.Nice little cafe though and would recommend.

We've visited the sister shop in the Northern Quarter (on the Ring Road), so wanted to try PKB at Barton Arcade. Mistake made. In summary, disappointing food and indifferent service. The arcade is half deserted, an atmosphere that lingers in the periphery as you eat. Not PKB's fault, but alas the experience doesn't do much to distract. I asked for the special for coffee, a Brazilian single lot, and a PKB Brekkie. My companions got Eggs Benedict and another Brekkie. The coffee was poorly prepared, muddy tasting. After we received our drinks, we had to ask for someone to bring us the food menus—a solid 10 minutes after being seated. That was the last we saw of service, pretty much. While we had our food delivered and ketchup, no one checked in before the end—and it was a different member of staff, someone we hadn't seen before, who received our list of disappointments with the meal. So. Breakfast. Well. Sourdough toast was weakly toasted, less so for the Eggs Benedict. My bacon was fatty and stringy. Eggs had runny yolks, but one of them had congealed to a rubbery bullet-like consistency on the outside. The sausage, black pudding, beans, and button mushrooms were fine. Nothing that excelled, and all disappointing after our experience in the sister PKB—I'd enjoyed a Dirty Bacon Bennie there that knocked it out of the park. Oh, and I had to take the seal off the ketchup myself. Which felt like being underserved. Never again.

We tried their French toast and it is absolutely delicious! Perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, yet soft and fluffy on the inside, it was a true treat. Paired with their excellent coffee, rich and smooth, it made for a perfect start to the day. The combination of delicious food and great coffee, along with the cozy atmosphere, makes it a must-visit spot for breakfast lovers. Highly recommended!

Art Nouveau arcades with glass roofs, great café/bistro inside and outside, always dry thanks to the roof. Good lounge music, warm, unobtrusive service (curly and blonde service 👍🏻👍🏻) free water, excellent Americano and overnight oats with blueberries, peanut butter and coconut chips, incredibly tasty!

Very good! If you don't realize the small passage, you'll lose a real gem here. Great atmosphere, delicious coffee and great food. Gladly again.

Avoid, no respect for the customer. Despite available tables, let customers wait and clean up! After 20 minutes of waiting, the waiter announces that without a reservation you will have to wait 15 to 20 minutes more! Lamentable!

Great staff some very unusual coffees. Didn't try the food.

Came for breakfast today with my baby and was given a seat. 10 minutes went by with other people arriving after me and getting their orders taken. After 15 minutes someone who had arrived after me order was delivered to me. At which point I said I hadn't had my order taken yet. The waitress laughed and looked embarrassed. 10 minutes later. Still no order taken so I had to leave as my baby was getting restless.

A city centre coffee haven in a lovely arcade, with an excellent breakfast and brunch menu. The food was great and the coffee excellent too. Ideal for a brief over-laptop business meeting, which is why I was there, or for doing a little work in a different environment. Service was friendly and made me, as a customer, feel important and welcomed. Accessibility, including bathroom facilities is good.

First visit here and really impressed. I've heard great things but when I sat down for breakfast I realised nothing on the menu was doing it for me, not because it isn't a great menu but because my taste buds are a mess atm due to medication. I asked if a variation on something was possible and even though it was busy the staff kindly agreed to accommodate. Food was perfect. I will say the atmosphere is a little loud (music, chat) if like me you prefer something less overwhelming but i think others would love it if that's your thing. If not, bring my loop earplugs!

A young, blonde waitress was abrupt, unwelcoming and incredibly rude to my partner, denying her to have a quick coffee, when there was 30 mins left until closing time. Wish she had been nicer about it. A real shame. Won’t be visiting again.

We only stopped to have a coffee, but we were left wanting more, a very lively and charming place. They have both sweet and savory dishes and they are very friendly.

We enjoyed our first breakfast visit to PKB that we came back on the second day of our short stay. Between the two of us we tried four different breakfast options from the menu and each one was gorgeous! Definitely a bit different from the usual selection which is a bonus. The staff were all lovely, efficient and helpful. The venue itself is in an old arcade and pretty quirky. Will definitely be back!

We visit every Saturday with Gilbert The Westie. Amazing greeting always with a smile from Katie. Great service and attention from all of the staff, Steve, Anya, Sophie to name just a few. The food is always excellent. If you are in Manchester it's a must visit.

Great location inside the vintage arcade which has been recently renovated. Good spot for a coffee or light meal, but be warned, busy with locals and tourists at lunchtime or weekends

Prompt service and friendly staff but those were the only positives. The food took 40 minutes to arrive. After we ordered a waiter came back 20 minutes later and told us the soup one of us had ordered wasn’t available. Therefore had to change our order and they didn’t bring out a knife and fork to eat it with leaving us with a soup spoon to eat a breakie bun. No water brought to table. Some of the food was also not hot enough. No further service between sitting down and finishing the meal.

We visited Manchester for the bank holiday weekend and had a look online for the best rated breakfast places, we wanted it to be near our hotel and this place came up as number 1 in the area so we booked in for this morning (Monday 1st April). The reviews seemed good with the odd bad ones which made us a little hesitant but honestly we were SO impressed and couldn’t have chose a better place to eat before our journey home. We were booked in for 11:30 but arrived at 11 as we got packed up and checked out quicker than we thought - we wouldn’t have minded if we had to wait for our table as they were busy but they said the table was ready which was nice as we were all quite hungry! The decor of the place is really cool and cosy and all the different furniture and lights is really attractive. Our waitress was so lovely and really attentive, we are so sorry we didn’t catch your name! We ordered a mixture of cappuccinos and orange juices, the juice was really tasty and seemed fresh, we own our own coffee shop back home so are always picky with our coffees but the cappuccinos were delicious, I added salted caramel syrup to mine which was a nice touch, we liked the coffee so much we got another round before leaving ☕️ The food was genuinely really tasty! I ordered eggs Benedict with added mushrooms which was SO delicious, I must say I’m not a huge fan of chunky bread/sourdough and think normal thick sliced toast or a muffin is better and easier to eat but their sourdough was actually so lovely and wasn’t too hard or crispy, it all went so nice together. My partner had the monte cristo sandwich which literally melted in the mouth it was so good (of course I had to try it), my stepdad went for the poached eggs, feta and avocado on sourdough and he said it was tasty and ‘different’ but in a good way, and my mum also had the eggs Benedict with avocado and got a sausage Pattie on the side which we shared and that was very succulent and yummy! Honestly the food was delicious and so fresh so hats off to the kitchen as the place was really busy with queues out the door. We will absolutely be going back when we visit Manchester in the future. Pre booked, because it’s busy. Crowd waiting to be admitted at 9am. I had full breakfast. Sausage was meaty, smoked bacon good, and the beans excellent. Slice of black pudding let it down. Dry! The sourdough was ok. Very hard crusts. Tea was good.

Stunned by this coffee just off St Ann's Square and the quality of the food we had. Great service, relatively fast, great music and environment and the space was decorated with great taste. The cappuccino was great and the porridge was among the best ones I have ever had. Will definitely return whenever I stay over around Manchester.

If you want to wait for takeaway coffee for 10 minutes on Sunday, then maybe you can try, but the coffee was pretty average, too.

This place was awful, the staff was terrible and they expected us to wait 1hour for our food with out telling us, when I compiled to the manger she nothing . After waiting all that time they said we had another 15 to wait, ten when the food came it was cold., I honestly couldnt believe it. The staff wasn't helpfull and in the end I just wanted to leave. I honestly have never been to a coffee place so bad. Before going I was so excited to go to this place because of the reviews, but honestly they are lies. I had a English breakfast which was not worth the money and the fact it came cold and waiting so long for it made it worse.

This place exceeded my expectations. The coffee was lovely, and I had the Eggs Benedict which was delicious. The cured bacon was on another level. Will definitely return. Thank you to the lovely girl who squeezed us in as it was busy! 10/10!!

We hired PKB at Angel Gardens for my daughter’s birthday, but sadly on the day there was a flood. We were offered an alternative venue at Barton Square and it was fantastic. The staff, led by Sian went above and beyond to make sure that we all had a great time. I would recommend PKB for breakfast, lunch or for private hire. It’s a great place and the staff really are the best!

This is my favourite cup of coffee. I don't often venture into Manchester anymore but when I do this is how I start my day. Coffee and breakfast here are brilliant and the staff are very friendly! The surrounding architecture is also brilliant. I would thoroughly recommend this place. Best coffee in Manchester and I drink a lot of coffee.

Great place but the music is really loud.

Popular and busy place for your breakfast/brunch. It was Saturday morning when I visited and it was buzzing. So I sat outside in the arcade which was comfortable but a bit too cool to take the coats off. Still, the breakfast and coffee soon warmed me up. Well cooked, tasty and delicious - perfect breakfast. Portion size means you may be able skip lunch. Friendly happy staff.

I understand that sometimes people fall through the cracks, I understand that having to wait during a busy period is expected but to not be able to order when every table around us has order. We called somebody over 25 minutes after we got there and ordered. We then asked how long our food would be after 20 minutes, the man who came over to us started giving out about realistic expectations to us. We pointed out that we were only asking for an update and not to rush it and that our booking was, and we got there, 45 minutes ago. There is no need to be rude to us. We were not even annoyed at the time. All I would ask is that when asked a question about timing just to give us an update and not to bite our heads off. Also, if I ask if it is possible to remove an ingredient and you say yes I don’t need to be quizzed about why I am removing it. The replacement waiter and the other people were nice. Food was okay.

I'm a big PKB fan - the food's great and the coffee is spot on. But the staff at this one were awful. They made me feel that they were doing us a huge favour letting us take up their valuable time and tables. Disinterested, slow, practically rolling their eyes when we asked for ketchup. They turned loads of people away when there were plenty of free tables which they just couldn't be bothered to clean. A real shame.

What a lovely find. We were up in Manchester for a Peter Kay Concert. This place is vibrant, lovely staff and excellent food. I think it is excellent value for money. I will go again in future and try the lunch menu. A good find.

Lovely atmosphere tucked away in the Arcades, a good spot for breakfast run by lovely people. Wasn’t overly impressed by the Turkish Eggs, could have maybe had more spice to it or added flavour through complimentary chorizo so give it a bit more substance. I can’t fault the bakery though one bit as took away a croissant and it was lovely, buttery and flakey!
