Great fish & chips supper here this week! And, most importantly, friendly service with a smile! We'll be back!

An absolute favourite of mine to go for a meal that’s local. Amazing staff that you can have a good laugh with. I’m a big fan of the pub quiz they used to do, im not sure if they still do though. The food is great, as well as drinks and prices.

Called today, only to be greeted by a rude member of staff. The young woman was rude and angry throwing stuff behind the bar, cardboard box and keys. Used to go a lot, but won't be going back anytime soon! Customer service training required me thinks?

just along from where we are staying so convenient located near the pier. cheap and cheerful menu and competitive price for drinks. not a five star offering but good value for money and would come again. friendly staff but working alone front of house. help definitely would be an advantage

This was a lovely country field pub, very welcoming food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend coming here again.

We were welcomed on our arrival my a cheery young girl behind the bar (no name, blue hair) who was friendly and helpful. We were a party of 5 plus a baby visiting for lunch, we were offered a choice of tables which unfortunately we had to wipe down with wet wipes and the beer soaked sticky chairs needed wiping before we could sit down. Great that high chairs were provided (also needed wiping down from food residue) our party included a vegetarian, GF, egg/dairy free and these were adequately catered for. The meals were ‘nice’ but unlikely to be freshly prepared and had a reheated vibe but the quantity and quality was reflected in the price and it was tasty. Baby changing as impossible given the size of the toilets but this was easily resolved by changing him in his pram. The Tap and Spile is in a great location just off the pier and handy for a spot of cheap lunch.

It won’t win master chef Bangor , the food was plain at best , I ordered salt and pepper fries , BLT wrap and fish finger wrap. Look at my photos and make ur own opinion , the BLT wrap was dry , raw wrap , maybe the chef had a off day it wasn’t the best , even the salt and pepper fries looked poor in presentation and mediocre in eating. I did like the tea , a bit unsure about the warm milk ……..

Very helpful young barmaid, rang the kitchen to see if they fit us in after their busy day. She could easily not have bothered, but we were delighted when we were handed menus and took our seats. Super bar food menu, with GF choices. Good value for money. Great staff. GLUTENFREE SAUSAGE AND MASH!

Great little pub. Stayed in the hotel next door and came here for drinks in the evenings during our stay. Good draft selection, some really nice local Welsh whiskeys & guns. Fantastic personal service from young barmen, good conversation and recommendations.

The atmosphere is typical of a "pub" (quite noisy at times!) and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is good (good portion size) and drinks are reasonably priced. Well worth a visit :)

Took a little trip to Bangor and stumbled across this quirky little pub. The barmaid on at the time was amazingly friendly from the minute we walked in, chatting away like we'd been visiting for years. Real ales a plenty which kept me happy and happy hour for the rest of the party (£3 a pint!!!). The atmosphere was so nice and welcoming, we decided to have food and that is when the pub came into its own. Great selection, fair prices and when the food arrived, massive portions. The food was brilliantly good & presented..... highly recommended. What started out as a quick stop ended up staying for a good few hours. Well done folks, brilliant example of a traditional pub 😀

Very good value. Friendly staff. Good scampi. Reasonably priced drinks and kids eat free which means a lot! There were big screens for sport which the kids loved.

Whilst staying In Bangor, we checked reviews onTripadvisor and decided on the Tap and Spile. The Welsh rarebit was disappointing with its wilted side salad and the main course wasn’t any better. Although it was hot, the fish was bland and soggy with undercooked batter and I can’t even begin to describe the curry sauce! As we were leaving, we heard another couple making a complaint about their meal. Overall, it was very disappointing!

We visited last Sunday and were warmly greeted by friendly staff. 2 out of the 3 of us are vegetarian so we we’re pleased to see there there were interesting Veggie choices on the menu. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals- very generous portions, locally sourced meat (for the 1!), excellent service and a perfect location. We would definitely recommend a visit- plus children eat free if you have little ones- a huge bonus for many at the moment.

Called into the Tap and Spile after a nice walk around the town and down to the pier. Warm day and fancied a drink. Entered the pub and were informed that it is table service only and to choose a table. I asked the member of staff if that included tables outside and she said yes. We left and chose a table with a view on the pavement just outside the pub. No-one came to take our order. We waited 15 minutes and then decided to leave. There were people having lunch inside but it was far from being busy, so no excuse.

The food was great with a few veggie/ vegan options available. We would come back here if in the area again. The staff were nice. Social distancing was is in place between tables which was good to see.

We’ll start up for COVID with sanitiser available on entering. Tables were well spaced out. Lovely food and the staff were great.

I stopped here with my three children and mother. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. It’s a lovely location. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

We stayed a couple of nights in the accomodation ready for Anglesey 10k. Far enough out of the main centre of Bangor to be nice and quiet but close enough to be easy to reach the trains and buses. We were given a friendly welcome and the service was pleasant throughout - the bed very comfy and the shower excellent. We had Sunday lunch in the pub after the race and it was good value and very tasty - bit odd to have lamb without mint sauce but it was so tasty I'll let that slide!

Ate here on a Monday night as I was in Bangor for a course, I had a chicken burger, which was a entire chicken breast, cooked well and all tasted nice, with some decent beers

A cosy and friendly pub which is ideal for watching sport and has an amazing collection of beer mats in the upper room. Doggy friendly (very) with a good selection of real ale and gin. Also, nice pub food at a reasonable price. Sits on the Menai strait just near Bangor pier. A good find!

Had the good fortune of staying in the Tap & Spile as my ferry back to Ireland was delayed. The hotel is located right next to a bay with wonderful sea views. Received a really warm welcome on arrival. All of the staff in the hotel were a pleasure to deal with, very professional and paid a lot of attention to me as a guest ensuring that I was comfortable and enjoyed my stay. The weather was too miserable to venture very far from the hotel in the evening. However, this didn’t bother me as I decided to dine in the hotel bar. The food was excellent and the pints went down very well. I had an early night and my room was very clean and warm. The beds are extremely comfortable and I slept very well. In the morning, I enjoyed a full Welsh breakfast which was reall well presented and delicious.

I booked one night in the Tap and Spile and had the best nights sleep in years! The rooms are refurbished to retain a feeling of individuality. The shower was powerful and there was a really good standard of cleanliness. My room on the top floor looked out over the Menai Straits . The bed is huge with crisp white sheets and provides perfect comfort. I opted to not have breakfast but my colleague said it was excellent. The previous night we'd eaten in the pub downstairs and I had delicious Vegan soup and my carnivorous friend was happy with his sausage and mash. Vegetarians and Vegans are well catered for. The staff are friendly and helpful and a delight to chat to. We're going back in February!

Visited Bangor and thought we'd have a look at the pier, as it was lunchtime popped here as very close by. Sat in the window with views of the sea. Staff were very friendly and the food was great. Fish and chips were lovely, generous portions and reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again if back in the area.

Staff friendly and efficient. Squirter(airator) now NOT fitted to the draught beer pumps by most of the staff.

The hubby and I stopped here for a quick lunch. The price was good, staff were welcoming and the food comes in very generous portions. I ordered nachos and cheese and was impressed to see this was a homemade dish, with even the guacamole having a lovely garlicky taste to it – different from the bulk standard stuff you usually get. Also really nice hearing a mixture of Welsh and English language being used. (I don’t know why I say this – we were in wales, after all!)

Stopped here by chance having been on pier. Delighted to find had veggie & vegan options. Daughter & I had vegan Thai curry & vegan chilli. Husband had veggie Glamorgan sausages roast dinner. All very tasty & just what we needed. Large portions no room for pudding! Lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Went for lunch yesterday, very friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar. Brought our dog water and welcomed him in. Excellent quick service and the food was lovely. My husband said it was the best burger he had ever had. Very jealous of my daughter in laws baked camembert as it looked amazing! Good prices and excellent friendly staff. Beautiful views over the straits and over to Llandudno.

Came here as it was advertised as dog friendly and they are hard to come by these days. Place has a rustic look a bit tired but in-keeping with its atmosphere and style. Lovely views over Bangor marina. Staff very friendly nothing too much trouble, made fuss of our attention seeking french bulldog Alfie. Prices very reasonable and the meals were of better than average pub grub quality. We would come here again and recommend.

For pub food, it’s pretty good and there is a little more to offer than your standard, which I like. Good selection of beers and ale and even some amazing folk music playing when I visited. Lovely staff and awesome vibes, can’t fault it.

I went on line to view the menu as I am dieting, I was glad to see grilled chicken and salad. On arriving with our group of friends I ordered my healthy choice to be told the don't do the salads any more. So the diet went out the window and I had bangers and mash - lovely, so I had a local bitter from Conwy to top it all off. A great time and nice staff.

Lovely ambience befitting of a local pub. Chris and his team go the extra to make everyone feel welcome, whether regular, or passing through Bangor, and capitalise on the location close to the pier and beautiful Garth coastline. You can even make use of the neighbouring park if you brink a blanket! Great selection of seating, tables and a pool table, out of the way. Plenty of choices on the menus and specials boards, a cracking gin bar, ample guest ales and ciders, with a healthy combination of time-honour3d and local specialities offered. Entire hotel has just been remodelled to update the bar and toilets and upgrade all rooms to improve soundproofing and overall coziness. Highly recommended for a short stay in the city of Bangor.

Just had a lovely overnight stay,our room was amazing, comfy beds, gorgeous bathroom & Decor. Complimentary tea, coffee & hot chocolate in the room & a breakfast to die for. Thank you!

I've been a regular at the Tap & Spile for decades and have enjoyed a consistently GOOD pint of Bass but the new "management" seem to be intent on driving out the long term drinkers of Bass by: not ordering enough, not ordering ANY Bass and have a succession of "renovations" (that close the pub) with no notification. There is a common missconception by NON beer drinkers that providing a slew of "Real Ales" is exactly what beer drinkers want, it is NOT! We beer drinkers may like to try different beers BUT having ONE beer that is ALWAYS good is a reason to become a regular. We now have to cross the Menai Straights to savour a brilliant pint of Bass (at a cheaper price!) and make previously un-necessary phone calls or visits to check on the availability of the Bass. Most bar staff these days wouldn't know a decent pint of beer as most don't drink it, a GOOD cellarman is ESSENTIAL IF an establishment is to keep it's long earned reputation!

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon here with my parents and the kids in school holidays. My parents have been coming to Wales for 15 years and have never called in. What a mistake! Fantastic place, great menu and lovely staff. Well kept ales! My only criticism is there was no mirror in the ladies! Big issue for all ladies!! Excellent menu, kids loved the food as did we all. Excellent views also. Bravo! We really enjoyed ourselves and we will be back as we visit Bangor regularly. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Amazing, friendly and caring staff! Plentiful and very tasty Sunday roast dinner! Excellent beers. Even for the 4 legged ones. The vegetables were full of taste and their quality was superb.

Food was lovely and they were very allergy aware for many different dietary needs. Nothing was too much hassle and we even ended up having an extra portion of spag Bol AND a nut free brownie! All extremely friendly and facilitated a lovely relaxed lunch for all 9 of us. Great place, would highly recommend.

On a slightly grey day in Bangor the Tap and Spile offered a nice place to eat. A good selection of food and drink even beer for dogs! I ordered fish and chips with optional extra bread and butter for the important chip butty and was a good size and very tasty. My wife had Menai mussels which was as a main and was very nice too. Quite reasonably priced and close to Bangor Pier too.

I returned home to have a great pint of Bass on Tuesday and it was closed; more internal decorating, it looks like! The sign on the door says that there will be works until the 26th July and the guys working there are "aiming" for finishing the evening of the 26th. So really the 27th!

My review is long overdue! I'm very lucky to have such a great pub within a short walk from my home. Good beer and gin selection and the food is always good quality. Staff are always friendly and cheerful and the service is excellent..

After going to Bangor Pier we stopped here for lunch, and are so glad we did. The food was amazing. I had the Welsh Rarebit, which was very tasty and my boyfriend had the ham and chips (actually homemade chips). The chocolate sauce with my pudding was divine. All the food was the nicest food we've had in a restaurant for a while, and good value for money. The service was top notch and very friendly and helpful. Cannot recommend here high enough, I will definitely be returning.

Elements of the menu will take you by surprise as they are quite unusual for a bistro surrounded by nothing with style in a small town on the coast. The food is very good and the wine selection adequate to match a meal. We ate there twice and would happily eat there again. Ask for a plastic glass and enjoy a drink on the grass with a fabulous view. Dog-friendly throughout, on a very reasonable condition that the dog is kept on the leash.
