Tap House in Kirklees

We arrived at 5pm on Sunday 16/6 and were ignored by the man behind the bar, we tried to make eye contact to say hello but there was nothing from him, it was like we didn't exist and there was only 1 other table there (a table of 3 for Fathers Day). The guy left the bar and went into the kitchen, we kept looking as there was a glass window in the door and could see him there but we were ignored for 5 minutes so we left. A real shame as we would have spent a lot on food and drinks and had highlighted Tap House as a point to visit but on reflection, only 3 people there on Fathers Day at 5pm when most others in the town were very busy (including the restaurant next door Lou and Joes Burger). It was our first stop in Holmfirth and thank goodness our other experiences were positive. Based on our own experience we wouldn't recommend, it doesn't take any effort to acknowledge your customers and just say 'Hi, sorry I will be with you in a minute' but in this instance, we were just ignored, we were not important enough to say hello. We experienced a completely different experience everywhere else that we tried in the wonderful town of Holmfirth so in a way, I feel sorry for the owners as their own staff are letting them down.

We were brought our starter with ours mains after specifically asking for it as a starter to share, I kindly explained to the server that we wanted it as a starter so we weren’t bothered about having it anymore unless she could knock it off the bill, she said she couldn’t do that as she still brought it and it wasn’t put down as a starter, we went back and forth a few times while I tried to put my point across that we definitely asked for is as a starter and they didn’t initially bring it as a starter and we would just have too much food all at once, finally she stormed off with the starter in a huff without saying anything and then bobbed her head round after to say she took it off the bill. We were then there for another hour and a half without anyone checking in with us to see how the food was or to get us more drinks, bare in mind the restaurant area was empty, only about 3 small groups of customers in the bar area and at least 3 members of staff working, I could only assume this was because the servers didn’t want to wait on us because of the starter debacle. We had to go to the bar to ask them if we could order more drinks and then again when we were done to pay our bill. The same server who brought our meals dealt with our bill and once we had all paid she didn’t say a word and walked away from the bar and we then left. My friends food was also burnt but we didn’t mention this as we were already made to feel like we were being difficult about the starter and also not given the opportunity as they never asked how our food was or checked in on us.

Caitlin was a fantastic host she gave us great advise for our table on what to get. they looked after us so well and really looked after our dog too

The best tapas we have ever had. Fabulous atmosphere, great music, excellent staff, a lovely young lady who was very knowledgeable about the dishes. We shall definitely be coming back.

New menu today , so did a takeout , which they are trying out for the first time today .. My order was Moroccan Chicken Kebab Beef Empanadas Monkfish and Bacon Skewers ... Everything was beautifully cooked and well presented ..great 1st day for Jimmy and the rest of the staff Well recommended...!!!!

A group of 9 of us had a tapas meal at the Tap House yesterday. The food was served promptly, all hot and delicious as well as beautifully presented. Our waitress, Caitlin, was friendly and attentive. The dining room had a lovely atmosphere and comfortable seating. Also worth mentioning that the staff were very reassuring to my daughter who has a nut allergy and she felt safe eating there. A fantastic evening and we will definitely return for another meal! Thank you.

Great afternoon at Tap House We visited for bottomless brunch Food - good sized portions of tasty food, we had 6 tapas dishes and 3 portions of fries between us and every dish was outstanding!! compliments to the chef. Drink - The staff made sure there was always Prosecco available throughout the brunch which was great. Service - was absolutely outstanding and made the night so special, Caitlin did an amazing job we can’t thank you enough for everything you did. We came wait to come back and try your new menu once you’ve launched it and try your cocktails as they look delicious!

Went a day late as my family booked the wrong date and the staff were very helpful getting us a table within 15 minutes. The food was great and the first dishes were brought out within 15 minutes and the rest followed quickly. As a group we tried most of the dishes and i couldnt complain about a single one. Would definitely recommend.

Recently we returned to Tap house for our 3rd visit as a family. Overall our evening was great! Unfortunately we had got our booking mixed up and turned up a day late. The staff were very accommodating and were able to fit us in straight away. The tapas was amazing and the drinks on offer were great too including the cocktails and real ale on sale. Staff very friendly and happy to help advise on portion sizes and how much to order per person.

Thanks to the staff at the Tap House for providing an excellent party venue. The curries we had were lovely and many of our guests remarked on this. The bar staff were great and friendly and they supported us with setting up our event. The venue was excellent with different areas - some noisy and others quiet for a chat, so everyone was catered for. Many Thanks would definitely recommend.

Treat for Valentines evening, atmosphere intimate, service attentive but not intrusive. Food fantastic, complements to the chef. Will be back next time we stay in Holmfirth

We called in twice in one evening, just because our first visit was so good. Staff were really friendly and hard working. However, when we came in for the second time the overwhelming stench hung in the air. People were walking in and then straight out as the smell was too much. The bar staff were apologising because it was so bad. I know it can't be helped but it marred the end of a great night.

Absolutely brilliant. Don't know who the two girls were in the bar tonight but they were without any shadow of a doubt welcoming and nothing was to much trouble.

Excellent service from booking to. paying the bill Customer service very good and the Tapas was delicious. Major plus was our dogs were welcome. Would highly revommend.

We are occasional visitors to this pub, and feeling peckish last night decided to try a couple of items off their tempting-looking tapas menu. Opting for the “Greek Style Chicken Kebab” and the “Salt & Pepper Baby Squid”, this was the first time we’d ordered food there, and we had high hopes because the grub that we’d seen being carried around by staff on this and previous visits had all looked lovely. As things turned out however, it was a very mixed bag. First the positive: The overall presentation was good, the chicken dish being served on a wooden board which is always a nice touch. And the chicken itself was cooked to a tee. The portion was also decent, with a nice tasty skewer of tender breast chunks for each of us. The flatbread however was slightly overcooked and a bit hard around the edges in some places. I persevered with my half of the bread, but the wife left some of hers. The tzatziki was okay but nothing to do cartwheels over, and the salad garnish was just that – salad garnish. Adequate, but nothing more. Overall rating: 3/5 Now the negative: The squid dish was truly awful and a complete waste of 8.50. We may as well not have bothered. In total there were 5 pieces of what was supposed to be battered squid, but when the time came to share that between us, it turned out that 3 of the 5 pieces were just batter with nothing inside, and the pieces of squid that the remaining 2 actually contained were about the site of a fingernail and utterly devoid of taste. “Baby squid” was overstating matters. More accurate would be “virtually non-existent squid”. As for the salad bed that accompanied it, that was just a heap of tired-looking rocket in a boring lemon dressing. And we didn’t even get the aioli dip that the menu said was supposed to accompany it. Overall rating: a very poor 1/5 We like the pub itself. The ambience and atmosphere are good, and the mixed-age clientele respectable. Like the food however, the staff are also a mixed bag: All youngsters, some reasonably efficient but others looking like they’d rather be somewhere else and in need of brushing up their “people skills” (on one occasion I asked for a fresh glass, only to have it slammed down onto the bar in front of me with a disapproving scowl from the barmaid). Would we eat there again? We *might* give it one more chance. But only one!

We were stay it the Nook rooms about the Tap House and had to check in at the bar. After being escorted to our rooms we came back for a bear and something to eat and did not move any further. The beer was good and the food prepared fresh. After a long journey the staff were helpful, efficient and provided just what we needed. The menu had a good selection and the was also a specials board. I had the fish platter which is a selection of cold fish and well presented. It fulfilled out needs. There was a wide range of age groups in the small bar area. We sat in the dining area to the rear and moved no further. I will be recommending this place to my beer drinking friends.

Fantastic Tapas, food was wonderful and full of flavour.. We had the Brunch so we had 4 different tapas between us, staff were great food was served quickly, well presented, good portions, drinks were brought as soon as you were nearly empty.. Next time we are in the area we will definitely go back..

Best Tapas I've tasted. This place is really authentic. Doesn't look it but don't let this deceive you. We were told about this place as a tip off and it paid off and we weren't disappointed.!

We booked the function room at the tap house for the day for a hen do and it was fantastic. Montanna and team could not do enough for us, the food and the service were amazing and they all went above an beyond to look after us. We’ve had tapas a few times around the country. Flavours and quality were great. Attentive service. Very reasonable prices.

This is the second time this week I’ve eaten at the tap house, this is a great for food and drink, great service and friendly staff, the tapas is a good portion at a good price, as well as the meat and cheese boards.I can highly recommend it. You can have as much or as little as you want.The local real ales are very good along with the wines and lagers.

The food and service here was absolutely incredible! Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a delicious meal accompanied with live music and a great selection of beers!

Popped in for impromptu Wednesday night drink. Stopped for the excellent Tapas. Chef is very well trained and serves excellent and tasty dishes all hand made. Looking forward to next visit already.

Fab food, fab service, fab value, bottomless drinks and dog friendly - Thank you for a fantastic Saturday afternoon.We ordered tapas, we were impressed by the selection and the flavours, everything was delicious. The bar staff were attentive and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere just what we were looking for.

Called in for a quick tea time drink with friends .....ended up ordering tapas and making a night of it ..... got to say food was fab ..... service was great and our host in the bar Montana ( fabulous name).. she was fantastic... will be back very soon

We only went in there for a beer and glass of wine, but having perused the menu we cancelled the reservation we had across the road and opted for the meat meze board, a side of olives and garlic mushroomsWe were not disappointed, it was excellent, the mushrooms were with roasted garlic which were soft and delightful. The olive bread was very tasty, with big chunks of olive through it. The rest of the meze was superb, the meats were so moist and the humous was so clearly homemade.All in all my only complaint, if you could call it that, was that the olives could have been better marinated but that really is nit picking.In the end we left happy and as we hit the street bumped into a couple who asked for directions to another place and off the back of our review they were persuaded to go to the Tap House.

Really nice generous portion of tapas, had 4 between 2 of us and now full, great on the premises brewed ales and stout, good wine and great service. Really relaxed atmosphere and also dog friendly.

Came here and ate the swingers mezze. Perfect for group like us, because we all like a picky tea. Would swing again 10/10.

Such a fantastic place. Tried Tapas for the first time. It was amazing!!! Ryan is a genius - the food was spectacular and so tasty!! Montana is the perfect host. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and such lovely craft ales brewed on site. Funky banana is a must to try !!!! Thank you it was a perfect night

Lovely meal - we’d been earlier in the summer and had a meal and thought we’d try their new menu. We chose the meat board and picked a couple of tapas dishes too - haddock and the halloumi fries. Delicious home made olive bread served with the meat board, (so much so we asked for extra bread!) plenty of selection of meats, pickles, olives etc more than enough for two. The staff are really helpful in advising on number of tapas dishes to order if you’re not sure. Lovely meal and we’ll be back.

We can highly recommend the food at the Tap House. We have eaten there 3 Fridays on the run !The tapas style menu is varied and all the options are really tasty!! …well presented and very reasonably priced. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and the bar serves some great local ales, Gins or whatever you fancy!What’s not to like !

Met up with my bro we had some lovely nook beers and the food was plentiful delicious and fab price the best patas bravas around..amazing definately go back soon

Totally overfaced ourselves with what we ordered...expected smaller portions..food was superb, Beef Cheeks were gorgeous ..lovely to see new Head Chef popping out to ask how it went .lad has only been there two days so please wipe the slate clean and call again . Staff always polite and spot on with the real ale then brew themselves ...please call. Worth your while I'm sure

We ordered the prawns on the special board only to be told with disarming honesty by the waiter that the chef had quit, defrosting all the prawns. We were offered an alternative so went for what sounded like a lovely but pricey dish of calamari (£9.50) The plate was pathetic 7 or 8 rings that had clearly been defrosted and so thin they looked like from Iceland. We complained at the poor quality and how overpriced it was - only to be told by the waiter ‘ that’s what you get’We are regular customers who have made a big effort to support The Nook family over a very difficult 18 months over lockdowns. The beer is always good and the chilliNachos excellent. But the owners need to understand that there’s lots of bars and restaurants in Holmfirth that offer serious competition and they cannot rest on their laurels

As a couple, we had a bottle of Prosecco to share outside and moved inside for food when it got a little cooler. Enjoyed the afternoon and early evening the food and drinks and service. Caitlin was 'on it' and very helpful.

The food was delicious, excellently prepared and presented. The staff were amazing, Caitlin made us some outstanding cocktails they were delicious will be coming back to try some more off your cocktails.

Called into this small bar, for snack and a couple of beers, very welcoming atmosphere, food was fine, cannot remember what we had but it was a light snack and it filled a hole. The beer selection was excellent, local brews, we were only there for an hour so I did not get to try them all, but the beers I had were nice and well presented. Thanks to friendly and efficient the staff here.

Stayed for 2 nights b and b very nice room it was the family room large and spacious comfy beds and a great breakfast. Location central to all restaurants and bars. Tap house bar and restaurant next door had the burger meal absolutely fantastic with real home made chips the bar manager Damien made our visit special he is the french man. Recommending drinks and food had a great time thank you.

We came here for some food early June 2021 and was blown away by the quality of the food. The Nook is a hidden gem, it is tucked away and not many people know of it but the food and drinks are absolutely gorgeous. My boyfriend had fish and chips and I had the Cajun chicken. My mum and dad came a couple of days before and really recommended it and I am so glad we listened to them and went. The staff were really friendly and the decor inside was really nice and felt almost hidden away!We will come again and be recommending it to our friends and family :)

Have been to the Tap House a few times prior to Lockdown last year and have always had a great time. Great to be back today...New Menu....Food was really good and atmosphere and staff their usual excellent selves....If you've never been then get your bums down there as you'll love it and always made very welcome

Extensive menu with something for everyone. We dined as a family and shared a meat platter and camembert to start, followed by belly pork, homemade steak pie and a Taphouse stack. The food was faultless, beautifully presented and portions were sizable - a fair proportion returned home with us for Sunday lunch!As expected for a brewery bar, there was a good choice of ales as well as a selection of interesting cocktails. I can recommend the Funky Banana pale ale The staff too made the experience, very attentive and cheerful. Also an eclectic selection of music in the background. My only slight issue were the high tables and benches, although there are "normal" tables to the rear of the bar that are better suited to those who have mobility issues. It wasn't near enough to mar an otherwise excellent experience though.

I had the the belly pork dish which was beautiful. My daughter had the burger which was huge and my other daughter had the mushroom lasagne which was made into a child’s portion to accommodate. Lovely staff and a really lovely evening with lovely food. Thank you!

Had a meal before we went to a gig at the picturedrome. I had the house burger absolutely delicious but it was so big it finished me off. Julie had steak and ale pie which came with thick rich gravy again suberb. Only complaint was the portions were so big there wasn't room for dessert, really fancied a jam roly poly!!. Excellent beer and cider to wash it down. book a table for a quiter dining experience away from the main bar

Would've been a 5 if it had mash or an extra roast potato .The brisket is cooked to perfection and we sat in the restaurant bit as unfortunately my legs are a little short for the very high chairs .The only other down side was there card machine broke and the waiter kept me at the bar to try and pay but the waitress came over and said our dinner had been on the table a while so when we eventually got it it was a bit cold but couldn't be helped .

The Tap House is my favourite bar for a Sunday afternoon pint and meal after a long walk. The beers are second-to-none (being brewed in the Nook next door) and the burgers are simply exceptional. The portions are generous, with real hand cut chips, great salad and coleslaw. Overall, the Tap House offers great value, professional service and high quality food and beers in a relaxed environment. Highly recommended!

I go to the tap house often. The menu is small but there is plenty of choice. I dont eat meat and my daughter is a full vegetarian. I have never had a bad meal there. Always tasty and excellent service. There are places with bigger menu choices. But I must say the service in these places is not what you get here. Thank you for being so welcoming on each if our visits. I have put some pictures from some if my visits.

Go in here quite a lot as Holmfirth is my preferred drinking area, but never had food, and have been pleasantly surprised today, we didnt want anything flamboyant or over the top, as we were only in Jean's and Jumpers, anyway, l had a Cheeseburger with chips and onion rings, and my Partner had the Steak and Ale Nook Pie, and it was delicious, the Chips were homemade, as they should be, just nicely browned and with plenty of taste, my burger was massive and l couldn't eat it all, but it was spot on, the Steak Pie was absolutely brilliant, lots of taste, lots of Steak and lots of gravy, again with homemade chips, unfortunately we had to leave some, as even undoing the top button of our Jean's wasn't helping, the Staff were pleasant and attentive, the new Manager was very helpful and had plenty of enthusiasm, all in all a good idea to give it a go, if you are in Holmfirth, give this place a bash, you will not be disappointed, a good 5 stars from me.

28 of us ate here on Saturday December 7th for our walking Christmas doo. We had the room upstairs and pre-ordered our meals. We had a very good selection to choose from at very reasonable prices. The food was lovely and staff went above and beyond. Peter the manger kept coming up to make sure everyone was happy whilst still running a busy bar and restaurant downstairs. Would definitely recommend the tap house if you’re ever in Holmfirth. I would good back and eat here again. Fabulous

The front of house provided a modern bar yet with an excellent range of locally crafted beers, the funky banana beer was superb. The rear was more geared towards eating. The food and service were, again, excellent and although we had only visited Holmfirth for one evening, we were tempted to return for lunch the following day. Highly recommended.

This pub has my favourite beer in the valley, Nook Baby Blonde. It can be very busy, good young vibe. It has room to stand outside if the weather is good.

Haven't eaten at the tap House for a while, although do go in fairly regularly for drinks. 4 of us had the burgers, 4 choices on offer and we had one of each. Can honestly say I couldn't fault the chicken cheese burger. Apart from there was too much! We all agreed they were excellent. Far superior to Lou and Joe's!

Having visited this establishment before,last year,this is the first time we realised they served food. Very very pleasantly surprised. Booked a table for two,had the most amazing food. Served pipping hot and freshly cooked. The staff are so friendly and although we are not regular visitors we never once felt out of place. My husband loved the choice of real ales. Most deffinately a place to visit.

Not a hugely original venue but great staff, massive variety of beers and lovely atmosphere. I had to check the bill. There were nine of us and I expected it to be at least £30 more. Fabulous value.

Good place to go with a group of friends, had a nice meal and a few drinks, popular place with good atmosphere, the lads liked the traditional beer, the filled Yorkshire puddings are very good and lot's of choice on the menu so everyone had a good selection to chose from, all in all a good place to try in an evening when in Holmfirth. Might be a bit noisy if you want a quiet meal for two but great for groups.

I visited today for lunch with friends nice people and food ok my friend had a burger and it looked lovley i had the yorkshire pudding with brisket and sticky gravy meat was good but gravy and Yorkshire not so overcooked pud and gravy more gloopy than sticky . Improved Lighting and normal sized seating would be good .

Great little hideaway pub/beer house. Great food and great prices with awesome hospitality! A must! The filled Yorkshire Puddings were fantastic as were the burgers! The best roasted potatoes

Stayed in the rooms above The Nook and the bar is good. Own brewed beer which is good (and lager). Quite small, which isn't a problem. Knocked a point off as it's really difficult to sit as some of the seats, they are really high!! Other than that, it's a great place to drink and the food looked good, although we didn't eat there

We ate before a gig at the Picturehouse. The place was very busy and we had about 30 min wait for food. but we all loved what we had ordered - mine a lovely lasagne (home made and excellent, others had the filled Yorkshire puds and burgers. all good portions and nicely presented. For those who like good Yorkshire food presented in a rustic way on scrubbed tables. But much tastier than fine dining!

A relaxed early meal of a delicious veggie platter, roast potatoes and salad. The staff were very attentive and service excellent. Good beer as well. We had the Bees Knees - delicious.

Have been here before in the summer and the food was great but I was nervous because so often when you return to a place you are disappointed. Not the case here it was all lovely and it’s reasonably priced and the staff are great-yes you can have two starters and no main, yes you can have an adult portion of the kids menu, no the house salad doesn’t come with feta but we can put some on etc etc. We had booked a table in the back room and I would recommend doing that if there’s a few of you as it gets very busy. Do please go it’s so nice to see an independent bar serving freshly cooked food in a friendly way and it’s not even expensive- 61 quid for 5 of us

Very busy when we entered. Served quickly by efficient staff. Got a seat at the bar and opted for the mixed meat platter. Very nice and reasonably priced.we both enjoyed our visit

Had a couple or three drinks in here as staying over for a gig. The in house brewed cask beer is spot on. And to keep the wife happy they have fizzy wine on tap. Didn’t eat but observing those that did they seemed happy enough.

Right in the heart of Holmfirth. Small bar with plenty of seating inside and a couple of tables outside. Plenty of options on drinks with real ales available. Average price for drinks. Plenty of staff available. Lovely and clean.

Ate in the restaurant twice whilst staying in holmfirth and visiting the Picturedrome. I had the veggie burger, crispy coat and moist flavoursome centre. Lots of topping and served in a large semi crispy bun , chunky Home made chips Large Home made onion ring absolutely delicious and very very filling. Wife had gammon and cleared her plate always a good sign! Returned Sunday lunch and had brisket roast . Such tender meat and veggies were to die for. The flavour of the gravy/ sauce was so tasty and again cleared the lot! Only had an hour before the gig so got chance to try the two lighter ales Baby light and blue I believe but both were very quaffable and would have loved to try the others. Topped off with friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely return .

We have visited a few times and found the beer quality to be average (using Sheffield, Leeds or Huddersfield as a yardstick). 23/8/18 there was one poor lad on duty at 17:30 trying to check in 6 guests, serve beers and change barrels. There were about 8 beer lines showing, but barely half available. Of the cask that was available, it was tired and unexciting.

Called in here for a quick bite to eat before a gig at the Picturedome accross the road. Food was good with decent portions and found the prices at lot more reasonable than other pubs in the area. If you order the nachos as a starter its is big enough to share or have as a main meal :)

Wow what a burger. The chips were amazing too. It was of high quality and huge. All elements were excellent. Just remember to wear your eating trousers!

Called in for a drink as the bar sells the same beer as the Nook, so we knew what we were going to get.

Just popped in on way home from work and glad I did! Very friendly service, great food with good portion sizes and well priced too.

Several years ago I remember seeing a burger and chips on a menu for £10....for a burger ! Now the standard in gastropubs seems to be around £14-£15 for said burger and chips...well not here. Their burger was under £10 and WOW what a burger. Total quality, amazing chips and beautiful onion ring....absolutely amazing...so this review should be way more than 3 star...it's the drink prices. We're in Holmfirth not Holborn..almost £7 for a pint and a half oh boy.

In town for British Sea Power at the Picturedrome. This cosy bar/restaurant is just opposite. We went in initially for a drink but after checking out another place returned for food and more drinks. We both had the Classic Cheese burger which came with a giant onion ring and very chunky chips. It was cooked perfectly, very tasty and more than satisfied my hunger - I was beaten by the last few chips! The food was washed down by their own Nook Brewery Oat Stout. There were 5/6 handpulls for cask beers, plus many keg taps and a good range of bottles. Prices seemed very reasonably, service was good and friendly. We'd definitely go back.

I went for a drink and was tempted to try the Food. On the menu was Rosemary and Garlic Lamb Burger. Never having tried a lamb burger, I was intrigued. I ordered it and was not disappointed. Excellent with the Tzatziki Sauce really flavouring the Burger. I was impressed with the attentive and professional service. I would certainly go again.

The food was very nice and the portions ample and well presented. The staff were not quite as attentive as they could have been. We had made a booking, but it seemed they were not aware of it when we arrived, even though my friend had received a confirmation email. However, it was quiet so we got a table. The restaurant was closed, which was a shame, so we had to sit in the bar. Unfortunately, the seats in the bar are quite high and you have to climb up on a metal bar to reach the seat to be able to sit down. It was quite dim lighting in the bar, which is fine for drinking and chatting, but a little dark for eating. The young lady who served us was very nice though. Not sure if I would go again.

Very standard food, but a very lovely place! Not somewhere to go for food, however is a brilliant place to go for a drink on a friday night!
