Tao Tao Ju is a lively, busy restaurant – there's a lot going on here! Many large groups, especially younger people, create a high-energy atmosphere. The food was delicious, more hearty than light or healthy, but absolutely delicious. If you're looking for authentic, hearty cuisine in a convivial atmosphere, this is the place to be. It was definitely fun – four stars!

Tao Tao Ju is a fantastic find in London! From the moment we stepped inside, we were impressed by the incredibly fast and efficient service. Despite being busy, the team managed to provide really personalised attention, making us feel truly valued as customers. And let's talk about the food – it was delicious! Every dish was flavourful and well-prepared, showcasing the best of what they have to offer. What's even better is that it all comes at a great value. Tao Tao Ju offers a wonderful dining experience without breaking the bank. If you're looking for tasty food, quick service, and a friendly atmosphere without a hefty price tag, Tao Tao Ju is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

I remember this place used to be quite good, but after not visiting for about two years, I was really disappointed. For a slightly overpriced restaurant, I expected the food to be better than your average Chinatown spot. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The fried rice had a strange fridge-like smell, was soggy, and lacked the chewy texture you’d expect from good-quality rice. The roasted duck was inconsistently seasoned, with some parts overly salty. On a positive note, the service was good. The staff were kind and waived the service charge for us, which we appreciated. However, the food just didn’t meet expectations, and we won’t be coming back.

Remember this place to be good but no longer returning. I’m Chinese so when I eat out I expect something better than I can cook. A few pieces of the char siu and roast duck were pure salt. The asparagus cashew was okay. The seafood fried rice was £17 for a few scraps of prawn, squid, and strands of duck meat. For the price we hoped for something exceptional but it was worse than average. Customer service is decent, returned our dish with no fuss, took 5% off our bill. On the whole, too pricey for the quality.

The food is very good, but it's not a revolution in steamed dishes. The service is horrible, you feel like you're bothering, no smiles.

Chicken and sweetcorn soup nice. Salt and pepper wings lacked seasoning, essentially plain battered. Crispy fried pork belly had not been rendered down long enough, it was neither crispy and the fat rubbery and overbearing. The crispy fried beef was crispy fried batter, again with a lack of flavour. May be we ordered the wrong dishes, but won't be back again and can't recommend.

Don't know why this place isn't rated higher. I stopped in after sightseeing in London as a tourist. The food was excellent. I ate the Malaysian spicy flat noodles, steamed pork buns and steamed prawn dumplings. Service was attentive and fast. If this place was where I lived, I would go all the time. A+

Moderately good southern Chinese restaurant in China Town in London. The deduction is that the food came very late even though we had ordered the same thing three times. At the end they will add a 5% service fee, which I personally find a bit cheeky. But at the end they show you how much tip you can give. After that 5% we didn't give any additional tip and the waiter got a bit angry. I probably won't come here again because I wasn't that impressed and it's a tourist trap.

Extremely disappointed. Ordered delivery and EVERYTHING turned up over cooked and dry. Nothing worse than when restaurants give one service quality for eat in and another for delivery (because we can’t return it to the kitchen). Get your act together!

Ordered the Honey Roasted Pork. The Mrs said she's only ever seen me roll my eyes like that in an intimate setting with her. Not going to lie i think she's a little jealous, train ride home was a particularly quiet one. 10/10 would recommend

Excellent food. Did not quite live up to our expectations in terms of price and quality, as they are on the expensive end. We were placed in the back room due to many people, but there was not as cozy an atmosphere as in the first room. Get a good amount of food so that you are full.

Letting people queue outside while there are free tables inside seems more like an advertising trick than good service. It creates the illusion of popularity, but the food doesn’t live up to it at all. The curry chicken was so poorly made that I honestly wondered if there was even a real cook in the kitchen. Overall, the food was well below average. This place is a complete waste of time and money. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The food was slightly less than average. The service was horrible. Waited in line and they let others in ahead of line for no apparent reason. This is not worth the wait with so many other fantastic options.

I had a craving for cha siu bao and the dim sum was quite good! The staff seemed super friendly as well! That said, I did find it a bit pricey — £67 for four dim sum dishes and three small beers felt steep. But I suppose that's just the norm in London these days.

I came in with 6 friends and we all thought this place was excellent. The quality was high and the service friendly, so a solid choice out of the many options in Chinatown.

The service was extremely bad. Unfriendly, annoyed, and disinterested. I didn't think the service would be that bad.

I was in London with my grandson and his chosen tea was chinese so came to china town. He wanted salt and pepper chicken but nowhere seemed to understand what we meant. However the staff here was friendly and tried to assure him as he is picky with what he will eat. Uncertain he decided on the barbecue ribs and quarter of crispy duck me getting a chicken curry. He devoured both ribs and duck which says it all about the quality as Billy wont touch it if the smell taste and texture is not right for him. My chicken curry was not what I expected it was almost a cross between a Thai green curry and a chinese curry. A large bowl packed with chicken, onions, green peppers and red chillies. Very tasty and good value for money. The other food people around were eating all looked and smelt good. I was put off eating in china town due to bad experience a number of years ago and not eaten there since, but I now have good place to return to.

We came with a party of 7 and sat right now. All of the food was amazing! My father in law lived in China, so he knows good Chinese food and even he raved about the food.

The best option in Chinatown We had dinner as a family, and the place is fantastic. It's quiet, pleasant, and without noise, and the food is 5 stars. Everything we ordered was delicious, of very high quality. You can see the ingredients are top-notch. We ordered noodles, dim sum, lemon chicken, spring rolls, and more. The place is comfortable, spacious, with plenty of room between tables. We were attended to phenomenally, served quickly but without rush, and the place is also very beautiful. Additionally, we had an incident where my son left his watch there, and they went to great lengths to return it to us, with great kindness and ease. We will certainly return and recommend it to everyone who goes there.

Such delicious food, in all honestly I’m not a huge fan of Chinese food 🍜 locally to where I live…. But this was amazing, food was so delicious. Service was ok but good atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back 💜

Sentado en la parte superior de la parte de atrás, por desgracia había una mesa muy grande justo al lado de nosotros tanto que no se podía oír hablar tan solicitado para ser movido. El servicio era eficiente pero frío, no muy amable en absoluto. La comida era generalmente bueno aparte del pollo limón que era extremadamente duro y masticable. En general, a menos que estés sentado en la parte delantera del restaurante, no esperes una experiencia relajante. . cuando se fueron nos dimos cuenta de que había música sonando todo el tiempo. Ensordecedora y grosera. La experiencia promedio con comida bien, probablemente no volverá.

The food here is quite nice, great dumplings and tasty noodles. The service is very rushed, as if they want you to give up the table as soon as possible so they can serve the next customers. This makes the waiting queue go very fast but also makes for quite a fast dining experience, where you don’t really have the chance to take the time and enjoy the meal.

I am soo soo sorry to say this and I'm sure your staff work hard but this was... disappointing. The sweet and sour chicken tasted tough, hard, and stressful on my teeth with every bite. The egg fried rice tasted old and like it had a chemical in it to preserve it. The chow mein had no wok hei and tasted soo basic. Not worth the price even with the little discount. I'm annoyed I spent almost £30 but I ate a little because I was hungry. Edit, they've asked me to email them, I did yet no response, not good, they have no loyalty to their customers.

I can't really say anything positive. We were lured by the relatively good rating on tripadvisor. I'll come straight to the food: simply not edible. We couldn't understand all the good reviews! The meat tasted inedible and had a very strange, rotten aftertaste! My sister had a plate of fried rice that also tasted inedible. My mother ordered a lemon chicken that was so sour it was like eating a pure lemon. It was also cold. As if that wasn't enough, her flesh was tough and tough. Great mix. The whole fun cost us €80 and EVEN THOUGH the food wasn't actually worth a cent, sorry! Went to McDonald afterwards.

The spare ribs and the crispy beef with hot pepper were the best dishes. The chicken with black bean sauce was average and the caramelized fried calamari was tough. The rest of the dishes are also average. So £32 per person is a lot for the quality of the food.

Fortunately, there was no queue, and apart from being a bit pricey, the quality of the food was pretty good! Tastes great too, recommended

I was visiting London and a friend recommended this place. Ordered several dim sum most of them were good and delicious and some were a miss and may need to refocus. Crispy duck rolls were a shredded duck, a little dry, and bland but it had a light and crispy wrapper. Vietnamese spring rolls were fried. I was not a fan of the filling and not sure what it was. Vegetarian dumplings were stuffed with Asian mushrooms some kind of dog ear mushrooms, just needed more stuffing like assorted veggies. Crispy prawn wontons, Lotus wrapped sticky rice with pork filling were amazing, spare ribs in black bean sauce was good but needed more black beans to have a deeper flavor. Dumplings in soup and crabmeat were delicious. This place is clean, servers were attentive. The food is almost perfect but some dishes needed to be developed. One of the best places for dim sum in London Chinatown.

This has officially become our fave dim-sum place in Chinatown! When I say "our" I mean that my friend had asked for recommendations and both another friend and myself recommended this place separately. The ground floor has a much fancier environment, but the upstairs is actually where its at if you're looking for a place that cares more about their food than the room its served in (and I mean this only in a good way!) Food comes out quickly!

Had an excellent pre theater meal. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Showed us to a nice table and it was busy. We ordered various Dim Sum, Cha Siu, Singapore Rice Noodles. And a cold beer. The food was very tasty, great spices and hot out the kitchen. Great Chinatown Cantonese.

Pedimos nuestra comida a través de Deliveroo y la comida llegó a tiempo. La suma mínima estaba bien, pero los platos principales eran terribles. El plato de pollo en salsa de limón era básicamente nuggets de pollo secos con una salsa de limón. Y el Char Sui era terrible - rodajas secas de cerdo - desagradable. Creo que fue la peor comida china que he comido en décadas.

We arrived at 5:45pm on a Friday and were sat upstairs in a quiet room which was lovely. By the time we left at 7pm there was a queue out the door. I was craving crispy hoisin duck pancakes and ordered a half duck. The duck was a little luke warm but it was yummy nonetheless. The meat was plentiful and lots of crispy skin. The waiter shredded it next to our table. A half duck was plenty for 2 people and really all we needed to order for dinner. We had the char sui bao which were ok with fluffy bread but the char sui was a bit chewy and glutenous. We also ordered egg fried rice and fried green beans with pork and this was fantastic! The green beans were lightly seasoned with onion and garlic with lovely rich soy sauce. We could hardly eat much of our second course so took most of it home (it was great the next day). We ordered too much but spent £70 for 2 of us, so not a super cheap meal. Our waiter was great he was very efficient especially when everyone in our section finished at the same time.

I went here with a friend on CNY. We didn’t book so there was a queue but it moved very fast so we were only outside for about 10mins. We were seated at the back of the restaurantb- which I really recommend - as it’s a big room with lots of natural light due to a conservatory style roof. The service was good and we were also visited by a Lion dance wish was great! Food came very quickly and was delicious! The only thing i would say is it would be nice if the staff told us what dishes they were putting down on the table, as my friend didn’t eat some dishes and we got our food mixed up not knowing who’s was who. But overall the food was great. The price is a little expensive so I wouldn’t come here all the time but I really recommend for a special occasion or family gathering

This is my go to place in Chinatown. Great food and friendly staff. The Dong Po pork belly in five spice and sweet vinegar is sublime and the Dim Sum bamboo basket is great value. A Chinatown gem, can't wait to come back.

bad staff Talk with me very badly

We had dinner with only Chinese ravioli of various types, some very good, a couple a little tasteless, but overall still good, fresh products and you can see (and feel) that they are homemade by them. The wait outside is a bit long, almost 30/40 minutes, but the service is quite fast.

Parecía ser sobre todo un revestimiento frito y caramelizado. El arroz frito estaba muy bueno, con una porción muy buena. Y eran 81 libras para nosotros tres. Tenía una reserva para las 9 de la semana que viene, pero la cancelé después de comparar precios con otro restaurante grande. La diferencia de precio puede no ser enorme, pero sé que la comida en el otro lugar es fiablemente bueno.

Ordered.. Wonton noodle soup. Was average. Red pork cheung fun. Very good. Chicken feet in black bean sauce. Felt was over steamed. Had better at other place's. Siu mai. Very good. Probably one of the best I had in London. BBQ pork bun. Was okay. Seafood crispy noodles. Was great.

We came across this restaurant randomly. It is located in Chinatown. Waiting outside the door too long. Eating below average. It is mandatory to spend at least £15 each. Too chaotic. The service is fast.

Ordered some dim sum via Deliveroo on the 18th Jan and found one black and one ginger hair inside the Har Gau. Emailed restaurant 3 times since and had no response.

I had my experience in this place with two friends and it wasn't the best. Aseptic environment, rude head nurse and poor and not fresh food; the only positive note was that the owner removed from the bill the dishes in which we found clear execution errors: the pork was pre-cooked, hard and not fresh and there was a hair in one ravioli. I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

Based within the busy part of Chinatown. I come from a Punjabi cultural background so we are used to food with great authentic flavours, herbs, spices, however the food was bland especially the "egg veg fried rice" and the "shredded chicken fried rice" which required additional spices and flavours to bring the dish to life. The "beef black bean sauce" dish was average as the beef felt very cheap and the sauce felt it was from a Tesco's jar. The positives are the Dim Sums which are very nice but you only get 3 Dim Sums and all other Cantonese restaurant I have visited give you 4 Dim Sums per portion. Finally my main issue was the waiter, which I requested him to remove the service charge, which the waiter replied "it is only 5% £3.50 don't worry" I did not want to cause an issue and paid for the service charge as I felt force to do so, however a service charge is voluntary because the customer is not obligated to pay it and to apply pressure to do so is extremely poor customer service, so I will not be going to this restaurant ever again regards to the service and the average food. If you are happy with quick easily pleased food then this is your place but if you come from a household which cooking fresh, flavoured, spicy meals is your soul then avoid this place for me it seems like a gimmick. I would recommend a fabulous restaurant in London named, Rules Restaurant near Convent Garden which is the oldest restaurant in London to current date.

Bonne cuisine chinoise, copieuse. Les dim sum sont excellents et les nouilles sont également très bonnes. Le cadre est un peu froid et l’accueil un peu bourru mais le service est rapide et efficace. Prix raisonnables.

Entering into this restaurant on a cold winter day was wonderful as it was cosy and warm inside. They have an extensive menu, and the Cheung Fun is a favourite. All the food is well prepared and flavoursome. The Chardonnay white was excellent and a reasonable price, particularly for this part of town. Service is efficient.

I do not recommend this restaurant.. I received dirty food with hair in it.. but the taste was very bad.. They charged me rudely for the soup, shreim n toast and rice, but they discounted the price of the Sweet & Sour chicken that had hair in it.. for the taste and filth 👎

Food is overall good, Siu Mai , and prawn and chive tasted good. Singaporian fried rice noodle was yum but a bit spicy. Chicken Fried rice was a bit dry and plain. Overall customer service was good .

The Dim Sum were pretty good. I liked the xiao long bao and prawn bean curd cheung fun but they were warm not steaming hot. The chilli oils and sauce they gave us were nice tho. However, the roast duck and honey roast pork were pretty disappointing in flavour and portion. The egg fried rice was okay. Overall, the restaurant is really spacious and the waiters were nice but it will depend on which dish you order food wise.

The best salt and spicy Squid in China Town? Cooked to perfection and not too dry, lovely aroma and spice. This place always has Chinese guests, always a good indicator of authentic food. The sweet corn and prawn soup along with the seafood noodles were good too. Above average price but goes with the location and quality of food. Will keep on coming back.

No-frills, delicious dim sum. I’m a big cheung fun fan and often struggle to find places that do it well, but Tao Tao Ju is the best in London. The BBQ meats are also fantastic, though be aware they contain bones. The prawn wonton soup was another highlight!

Terrible. If we didn’t wake the waitress up she would have left us at the entra e waiting for no one. It took forever for just 2 dishes and all we could hear was the guys washing the dishes with their marigold gloves on

A lovely menu filled with umpteen quaint Chinese dishes, with the prominent focus being dimsums. I had the prawn cheung fun & the peanut-pork-prawn steamed dimsum, and a portion of jasmine tea (which was delicious & felt like an unending pot, given the generous portion size)

I went to Chinatown because I wanted to eat Chinese food, but at least there weren't any touts and the ratings were good, so I went there. There was something a little uncomfortable about the attitude of the manager or woman. Anyway... I don't think the amount of food is great for the price. Maybe the food we ordered was the problem, but what we ate was just so-so.

This is REAL Chinese not anglicised takeaway. 3rd visit for me and my friends because their dim sum is EXCELLENT. Not just the usual har how and siu mai...but yam croquette, black bean ribs with chilli n garlic, prawn & scallop... They have photos of most popular dim sum so you can point. Very good tea that compliments the food. Excellent, polite, prompt service. I got half a roast duck for takeaway. Yum yum. Came with small pot of totally delicious sauce. Good price. A discretionary service charge is included in the bill (but you can tip your server directly if you wish). Due to recent changes in the law, servers now receive their tips. It is illegal for management to keep it . Seating is very comfortable and spacious. You don't feel crowded even though it is often busy. Never been there in evenings so can't comment on that menu. But, the wise and hungry will go for dim sum which is (as far as I know between 12 and 5pm This is a high quality restaurant who care about their good reputation and behave impeccably. If you don't know - please take their advice...tell them your budget and likes/dislikes and they will help. The Chinese know what goes with what, what will enhance what. After all they've been around 4,000 years and many cultures owe their cuisine origins to the Chinese. 6 stars if I could give them.

Don’t take anything apart from dim sums.

Went on Christmas Day. The queue time is about 30 minutes. The meals are delicious but very expensive. Perhaps because it was Christmas, the price of each dish on that day was higher than usual, and there was a 15% service charge. In addition, the most recommended dish we ordered is the beef Ho Fun. The dim sum we ordered is a bit normal and not worth the price.

Every time I want dim sum I visit Tao Tao Ju but this was the first time I visited since 2021 and to be honest, the price doesn't match the service anymore. Dim Sum dishes start at £7.50 (EACH) upwards (which is expensive compared to before) the taste was good but could've been hot. Didn't get the complete sauce selection on my table, just basic soy sauce. Service was okay but took forever to get the bill. There used to be more Cantonese speaking staff in there but all seem to be mainlanders now. The ladies toilet sink was not working as when we informed the staff they didn't offer a solution and no hand sanitizer. Overall we paid over £60 just for 6 Dim Sum dishes and pot of tea. I understand the prices for food in china town has gone up significantly and almost feels like a luxury to dine out these days but the only reason I used to come here was because I thought the price and service reflects the price but not this time.
