Large menu so we had the set menu. Asked if we could swap one item for beef noodles and waiter agreed. All food was tasty and good portions.

Distinctly average dim sum was not great all the wrappers were too thick and the fillings lacked flavour - the sweet and sour and rice and Singapore noodles were good but no more and the service was lacking and slow!

On our final evening in London, we decided to stroll through Chinatown in search of the perfect meal. By pure chance, we stumbled upon a large, airy restaurant that, while lacking a romantic ambiance, made up for it with an inviting space perfect for sharing a variety of dishes. Chinese cuisine is, after all, best enjoyed with an array of flavours shared amongst friends. We began with dim sum, and as each beautifully presented dish arrived, we simply couldn't stop. The flavours were exceptional, and the selection was vast, with every bite proving better than the last. As we left, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the serendipity that had led us to such an unforgettable meal—one that perfectly capped off our London adventure.

We ordered dim sum and the quality is above our expectations. Their egg tarts wasnt very impressive but looks are deceiving. The egg custard is just right in texture and sweetness. The pastry is flaky but yet not oily. The cheong fun is also good with the right texture and thickness. Their fried carrot/radish cake is very yummy with lots of crunchy and sweet bean sprout that compliments the taste of the fried cakes. Overall, service is good, waiters and waitresses are very attentive and accommodating.

We were only in London for a short time. There’s loads of Chinese food to choose from nearby, but someone recommended Tao Tao Ju. I’d never had dim sum before but was thoroughly impressed. My wife was delighted to find they cheung fun, something we can’t find even find in our home state. I’m saddened that I don’t have more time in London or I would be back tomorrow. Highly recommend.

I ordered a takeaway through deliveroo. Unfortunately I found a foreign object in it. I ordered Singapore noodles and sweet and sour pork, the item was in the noodles, I nearly choked on it. Please see photo attached. It is a hard piece of white plastic with crenelated edges, around 3 by 1 cm. It has a foul smell to it. I had to throw both dishes away as the strong bad smell had pervaded them. Deliveroo has refunded me for the meal but I really think you the restaurant ought to know about this. The little food I ate made me feel very nauseous. I am really worried about what this item is and if it was covered in some kind of poisonous substance. I have emailed but had no response

Food was ok! after receiving a couple of dishes we realized that one had not arrived. after calling the waitress and asking about the dish she started shouting at us as we had already eaten it, after shouting at us she left and returned to us with a empty plate screaming and what is this? here was the food (luckily we had taken a photo of the food) after that she realized that she had delivered it to the table next to us. Without even an apology he brought us the missing dish, and they made us pay for an extra one. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant mistakes happen but shouting at customers is absolutely not appropriate !!!!!!!!

This Chinese restaurant has consistently impressed me with its delicious cuisine. I've now been here three times, and each visit has been a delightful experience. The food is simply amazing, and I highly recommend trying the following dishes: * Prawn and Chive Dumplings: These dumplings are perfectly cooked, with a delicate balance of flavors. * Vietnamese Spring Rolls: Fresh, crispy, and packed with flavor, these spring rolls are a must-try. * Seafood Fried Rice: The seafood is cooked to perfection, and the rice is flavorful and satisfying. * Szechuan Pork: This dish is spicy and savory, with a perfect blend of sweetness. * A must try dish is their fried beans with minced pork not on the menu but you have to ask while ordering ! This is my favourite. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food in London this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Be prepared for a short queue as they are always buzzing with guests but surely it's worth the wait !

This place has a sentimental value to me. It use to be my dad's restaurant back in the late 80s. Called Fung Shing. Won numerous awards and recommendations from magazine and press for its Cantonese cuisine. Fay Maschler was a regular. You can actually still see the plaque on the external wall. I still have the Evening Standard Eros award for best restaurant in London sitting on my mantle piece. I use to wash dishes in the basement kitchen during my summer break for 10 hours a day. That's the real grind. Anyways back to the review. It was my friends birthday and we wanted dim sum after a few rounds of beers at the local Imperial pub around the corner at 8pm. Ground floor decor looks amazing. Gold and brown wood. Felt warm and cozy. (It use to be green back in the 90s) We sat upstairs which unfortunately was not furnished like the ground floor or as nice. Just plain white walls and plastic brown seats. So if you do go ask for a table on the ground floor. We ordered the classic dim sums and they came out fresh and hot. Har gaus is my test to see if t he place is any good. And it was over average. Good size Prawn and prawn paste inside. Missing the bamboo shoots which is a must. Siu mais were chunky cut pork. Taro mince fried pastries were good. Vietnamese spring rolls and the bean curd wraps were All over average. The tripe in black bean and chilli needed more time to cook. Was still chewy and still had that stale offal smell and taste to it. 4/5. Room for improvement. Service was efficient. Waitress recommended dishes from menu if needed. I think it's the only place if you want late night dim sum. In Chinatown.

This is REAL Chinese not anglicised takeaway. 2nd visit for me and my friend because their dim sum is EXCELLENT. Not just the usual har how and siu mai...but yam croquette, black bean ribs with chilli n garlic, prawn & scallop... They have photos of most popular dim sum so you can point. Very good tea that compliments the food. Excellent, polite, prompt service. A discretionary service charge is included in the bill (but you can tip your server directly if you wish). Due to recent changes in the law, servers now receive their tips. It is illegal for management to keep it . But, this is a high quality restaurant who care about their good reputation and behave impeccably. If you don't know - please take their advice...tell them your budget and likes/dislikes and they will help. The Chinese know what goes with what, what will enhance what. After all they've been around 4,000 years and many cultures owe their origins to the Chinese. 6 stars if I could give them.

Chopsticks are just two poorly made plastic sticks. You have to order at least 15 pounds of food per person otherwise you can't eat there. The food in general is not good and is close to fast food quality. Satay chicken sticks are as tough as shoe soles and not well seasoned. The atmosphere is unpleasant and hectic. It could certainly be worse, but of all the good restaurants in Chinatown, this is one of the worse. Not recommended, definitely never go there again.

Absolutely disgusting experience. The chicken dumplings were like cardboard – I had to spit it out after just one bite. The duck spring rolls were equally terrible, also I felt like the meat was off. The rice was overcooked to the point it was like baby food, completely mushy. The prawns were disgusting with the weirdest flavour I’ve ever tasted, and the chow mein was utterly flavourless. The sprouts in the chow mein left a weird texture in my mouth too for some reason. For a delivery costing over £60, everything went straight to the bin. My girlfriend had to go down the road to the local Chinese to pick up dinner instead. This was the most disgusting food I’ve ever tried. Stay away!

I used to visit and also order to my home from the Leicester Square branch with no issues always delicious food. So happy when I moved to Bermondsey to find another Tao Tao Ju under 10 minutes away from my home, and how short lived that happiness was due to numerous food issues with the quality of food being delivered, which i’ll go into in a moment. Worse still is that a comment by me on their instagram in mid May was ignored as was writing them an email 2 weeks before this review raising the food quality issues in Bermondsey has been ignored and has shown me a total lack of interest and care. On two recent orders my items and issues were as below: The first had the cheung fun (pork and prawn) and they arrived hot but soggy and stodgy, with the prawns especially falling out of the all stuck together pastry. This wasn’t glossy and separate but a gelatinous mound especially the prawn though the pork only fared a little better. For that order at least the rest of the food (har gau, vietnamese spring rolls, chow mein and duck rolls) was the usual quality. A week later I attempted another order of similar items, omitting the prawn cheung fun as they were so terrible previiusly but ordering the pork cheung fun which was not quite as stuck in full, but still two of the 4 ripped in separating and again it differed from the quality in the Leicester Sq restaurant and from their pictures on instagram. Sadly this order was a let down in other ways this time too; while the duck rolls remained great the usually fantastic egg fried rice has been overcooked and was too soft compared to normal and the spring onions were flavourless and looked to have been left sitting a long time to lose their usual taste, the chow mein this time was bland to the point of throwing it away sadly and most disappointing was the two orders of my favourite vietnamese rolls which were chewy and not crispy at all this time. I hoped reaching out first to their instagram and then by email to say that while Leicester Square was always wonderful that Bermondsey was not living up to their quality could result in at the very least being acknowledged and an investigation as to why their appetisers and other items when delivered close by are coming as low quality. Instead they chose to ignore me.

This WAS my go to Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. However, after my latest experience I probably wouldn't go back. There were 4 of us in our party, we ordered the set menu for 4, and were all massively disappointed. It consisted of 1 rib each, 1 piece of prawn toast, 1 dumpling, 1 spring roll and a small handful of seaweed. Then we were brought 3 average sized dishes and a bowl of rice to share between the 4 of us. After asking if that was all we were getting, we were offered a complimentary bowl of noodles, and watched as the waiter was stopped on his way to bringing us the dish to be sent back to the kitchen by the waitress and then reappear with the same bowl but half the size. We left still very hungry and after paying £75 each felt very short changed and put off going back. In an area with such a massive amount of competition you'd think they wouldn't be so stingey. Avoid the set menus if you plan to leave with a full belly and wallet.

The restaurant had really good food and a really good service also, the atmosphere was good, we were upstairs and it was good, not perfect but good (downstairs it's better). All in one, was it a really nice restaurant.

The food was excellent as always. Staff kept our wine & water topped up; easy to get attn if we needed anything. It’s always a busy place but we weren’t rushed. Two hours for 5 dim sum, 3 mains, 3 sides, 2 bottles of wine. 12.5% service charge for table of 5 was earned. Vegetarian & meat eaters were both happy.

It turns out it’s not Taotaoju in China, and it’s really not that delicious. The price is more expensive than other similar Cantonese restaurants in London.

1. Pre-made dishes, I watched beef fried rice and egg fried rice being brought out of the microwave. 2. The food was not fresh. My friend and I spent an average of 50 pounds per person. We ate black rotten crayfish. 3. The waiter was very dirty. When serving the rice, I saw a waiter wearing glasses pouring the rice into the big rice cooker. As a result, she grabbed it directly with her hands. 4. Use a dirty rag to wipe the dishes. Each bowl is wiped with a dirty rag to dry the water stains, and it is done openly. It's disgusting.
