Tank in Gloucester

Tank has closed down and been replaced with Guilt Trip coffee shop 😔

Firstly this is a review of Guilt Trip, not Tank which I had been to several times before and had no problems with. I hope Guilt Trip up their game soon or this place won’t last long! We were greeted by some delicious looking donuts, and an electronic menu featuring different toasties. My partner chose the goats cheese toastie only to be told they couldn’t do that as they’d run out of the necessary ingredients. This was closely followed up by a following statement saying that, actually they couldn’t do any toasties at all, but a reason for this wasn’t given. This was lunch time so not ideal! So instead we ordered two donuts and two coffees and were told to sit down at a table and they’d shout us over when they were ready. As we waited we ate the donuts which were actually quite good, although not the best i’d ever had. I was shouted over for the coffees but when asked for warm milk for my Americano, the server said she wouldn’t be able to do warm milk and looked surprised by this request when I asked for it, but said she could give me some frothed milk from the machine, which turned out to be warm when it came anyway! Both servers seemed quite surly and not very welcoming, like they didn’t want to be there. We were in a rush to leave as we had a cinema booking to go to or else I would have stayed and complained. It seems the couple sat next to us had experienced some issue with the younger male server too, as when we got up to leave, the manager had come up their table couple after they’d obviously asked to see him and overheard the lady saying the server had been rude to her. Doesn’t bode well if a coffee shop doesn’t offer warm milk and seems alien to the concept when asked and they’re running out of basic menu items at lunchtime. Also the menus were just photocopied pieces of A4 paper and some of the items on the left hand side had some of the text missing so you couldn’t even read it properly. Bring back Tank! Much better as it was before! Doubt I’ll return

Hmm. It's recent take over/merger/joint venture doesn't seem to have been a hit with the evening crowd when I was there on a Friday evening. More coffee orientated as you would expect from the new front of house but Glos Brewery beers are on tap

First time here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not too busy for a Saturday afternoon. Enjoyed a few pints of the local ale. The bar staff were friendly. Will be back to try more ales in the future. Didn't have any food so can't comment on it.

Unfortunately no longer Tank which was a bit of a disappointment as Tank has many happy memories for us. It's now a coffee and doughnut place that doesn't serve alcohol until after 5. I wish them well with their business. Lovely people, just need to iron out some teething problems that are inevitable with a new venture. I hope Gloucester is kind to you.

Our evening started well. This is a nice "industrial" style pub, showcasing Gloucester Brewery's beers. When we went to order food, we were warned that they'd just got some new pizza bases, and they might be a bit hard. However the pizzas were completely inedible. We got a refund. But the fact that that food was even put in front of us was totally unacceptable. I understand that people might think I'm exaggerating, but I'm really not. There was no way that these could be eaten. The bases were black. I totally recommend Tank for drinks, but don't even think about eating here.

Fabulous staff, we were served by Toby who was very friendly and helpful. Visited on a Wednesday when they have live acoustic music, very chill. Happy hour 5 to 7 Monday to Friday. Will return.

It was nice, but the staff hadn't been trained properly which wasn't very fair on them. I ordered a cocktail and had to walk them through how to make it. Staff that aren't fully trained shouldn't be left alone. It was no problem for me, but I expect other customers wouldn't be so nice. It puts the staff in an awkward position and is not good for the business.

Good food but the tills have NO printers and thay promise to email a receipt and promised to call me but 2 days later still no call and no receipt. No good if you're there on business and need to claim it back.

This place is a real gem for Gloucester. The staff are always friendly, helpful and informative. They went above and beyond to accommodate dietary requirements. The acoustic performance (weds evenings) made for a great atmosphere with very talented musicians. I will visit again and would recommend!

Can't fault the Tank, excellent beers, good food and friendly staff. Love it, and the quiz on a Monday is well worth a punt. If you're lucky you might get a shot of the mighty Tiki rum

Great building, brewery. Out of the session ipa by 1pm on a sat, they only opened at 12. Poor show. Food was great but they only had lager, porter and apa on the pumps other than cider. Did enjoy the old j Rums.

Great pub. All beers are brewed less than 100 meters away. Great pizza 🍕 too. Can't recommend enough.

A bit too pricey given what is on offer. Some of the keg beers are almost £7! The ales are more reasonable, as you would expect, but still a bit overpriced.

Brilliant pub serving their own amazing beer and gin, as well as local ciders. This became our local while we were on holiday in Gloucester! Very dog friendly, staff brought water, biscuits and gave ours a cuddle. The food was fantastic too, we had pizzas and snacky bits. The cheesy pretzel was easily my favourite!

A great pub right at the edge of the canal by the bridge in the Old Gloucester Docks. Brilliant ales from the Gloucester Brewery (recommend a pint of the Cascade). They have guest ales too and a few nice ciders. A great bar menu with quality pizzas, burger and other bites too. They staff are always really friendly and helpfull. This is great addition to a quality pub crawl around Gloucester town which is beginning to come alive again with the help of genuine pubs like The Tank.

A new menu since the last time I was in and WOW!!! Dropped in for lunch and my eyes were to big for my belly….these guys don’t know small portions. Great value and the biggest, best tasting onion rings I’ve had for years - pickled and cooked in a beer batter….washed down with a beer these are worth a visit alone. Lunchtime so only a couple of halves and went for the two Gloucester Brewery specials Pacific a nice fruity beer and Jungle a stronger fuller flavoured IPA. I’ll be back with my team from work next week!!

Nice vibe and a brilliant selection of ales. Will always visit when in Glos but the cost this time was a little too high... £9.90 for a pint & a half!

Nice enough venue, seemed quite quiet, very disappointing operating as a cashless venue, will not be returning.

Tank, more like w*nk. They didn't want our custom and so we left after one pint. I shan't be visiting again and I hope they go out of business.

Fab pub, good range of drinks and food

I like beer. I wanted beer. They had beer. I visited, I liked, I drank. Repeat until current wife tells me to leave. Sad face. One for the road.

A lovely atmosphere topped with excellent service. The food was exquisite paired with an extraordinary selection of drinks to choose from!

Nice little bar in the docks. Probably struggles a bit for customers due to being next door to a Weatherspoons.

Heard that this place was supposed to be good so called in on a visit to Gloucester. Despite how it brands itself it doesn't have that much of a range of beers and lots were crossed out anyway. Asked barman what a certain beer was like and he said he didn't know, said just wanted to know what type (IPA, Stout, etc) and response was no idea - but you can try some. Bottle I ordered, they left the cap on so I had to go back to the bar. A food menu looked OK but seeing fairly anaemic looking pizzas and plates of chips that looked like something from a school canteen we didn't bother. Staff were friendly but seemed out of their depth, one minute one frantically trying to do everything then three or four getting in each others way. Maybe a bad night - really want to support independent places like this but they need to up their game and no assume that people will come.

Popped in for some food and a beer. The Mac'n'Cheese was lovely. Had some very tasty garlic bread and fries on the side. Excellent choice of beers and they were delicious. Second time of visiting. Will def go back next time we are in Gloucester.

Amazing ambience, very warm and cosy seating area. Food here is great, love their chicken pesto pizza and tubby dust chips 🤩 They also have a great selection of local brewed beer and cider.

Popped in for some food and a few beers. Excellent cask beers and a nice guest beer (Arbor) and a fantastic burger. Cooked perfectly, juicy and nicely pink and tasted amazing. Served by a lovely older lady behind the bar. A great experience and can't wait to return.

Wondered if the burger was worth the money but actually it’s been hugely upgraded since my last visit and it was totally amazing. Appreciated the advice from the older lady who provided excellent service. The beer was the best I’ve had in Gloucester, consistently top quality. Def be back here again v soon.

Great visit to Tank. Lovely time where the drinks were moreish, the staff are willing to have fun and are very accommodating. Thoroughly recommended.

Came in for the pub quiz, won the quiz only to be told we didn’t and there was a mix up, then when I went to the toilet I overheard the quiz master call us “cheating bastards” to the “winners”. Awful experience never coming back...

To start off, the location is great and the building has a lot of character. My fiancé & I were then quickly impressed by the drink selections & their preparation. The staff was not only knowledgeable and friendly, but also super fun to hang out...

We have been to Tank numerous times and recommend it without reservation. Great atmosphere, great food, amazing craft brews (kudos to Gloucester Brewery) and the best cocktails we've ever seen, courtesy of Niki. The entire staff is first rate. Cannot recommend this place highly enough....

Fabulously relaxed experience with visiting friends. Sat outside in the sun within local ales for the boys and Fox’s Kiln Blood orange gin for us ladies. This particular, locally distilled, gin was on the recommendation of the bar staff and what a triumph it was...

Good selection of ales and the food is excellent too. We had a sharing platter and friends had pizza. Bit tight for space when busy but great little venue.

Enjoyed the Gloucester collection of brewery , the staff were so accommodating and offered us to try their collection before I choose my drink , highly recommended for their hospitality and will be definitely back.

Ate at the Tank on their fun and competitive Quiz night. Ordered the mozzarella pizza and the new halloumi burger from the specials. Absolutely loved the burger - creatively made, lovely ingredients and very tasty. Would have quite happily ordered it again the same night!...

Dropped in and found a gem, friendly greeting from attentive Staff, ordered drinks and found a table. On ordering food staff keen to know allergies etc, food well presented and tasty. Prices competitive and will definitely will visit again .Recommend the Pull pork burger 👍

Great visit to Tank. Staff were friendly and helpful. They are Dog friendly, which is key for us with two large dogs. Have a wide selection of drinks and the food was delicious. Menu selection is limited but we do prefer that. We had loaded pizza and loaded fries. The pizza dough was fresh and perfectly cooked and the fries were tasty with just enough toppings. Great visit.

6 of us went to the Tank, some had a burger and some pizza then a tour of the brewery. The food was excellent and we tried a number of different beers that are brewed, great fun and very interesting Worth a day out

on first walking into tank the staff were very friendly and welcoming, i ordered a complex burger as i’m very fussy, but this was no problem for them as they made sure my order was correct and were very attentive. lovely bar staff and food...

Visited today, staff cheerful and friendly., lovely atmosphere. The coffee and cider good, pizza ok but vegan burger and chips terrible, couldn’t eat the burger.

Paid £17 for a burger and it was, I’m sorry to say, one of the worst burgers I’ve had in years. Not impressed at all. Pizza was ok but burger and chips was awful. So disappointing after the good reviews on here! Staff looked absolutely knackered, felt for them.

Came for the quiz night and food. The quiz was great - engaging host, challenging questions but not too hard, a variety of questions/topics and it went at a good pace. The food however was awful. I had pesto chicken & parmesan fries. They were a little burned, there was a tiny bit of pesto on the chicken (not fresh pesto), and a load of cheddar melted solid over the top (not the advertised parmesan). It was very dry as if it had been put in the oven to melt and left so long the cheese had hardened. I ate it, but only because nobody came to check our food was ok, and I hadn’t eaten all day so I was starving. My friends’ meals weren’t much better. I was expecting what was in the description - “Green pesto tossed fries, chicken breast strips, shaved parmesan” - they didn’t deliver a single element of that. Also no juice drinks (on the menu but they now don’t stock - I can’t drink fizzy drinks so very limited choices for non-drinkers. Won’t hurry back.

I choose this place because it was showing the rugby and was able to book a table. Once inside I’d discovered we’d found a little gem. From my first enquiry to the day spent with Nicki and the team was warm, welcoming, professional , within a great space with a great selection of great food and local ales, gins, cocktails, etc. It’ll be the first place I head when back in Gloucester.

Think it's a real gem. I love the old industrial look, gives it real character. It has that "feel" that's missing from modern pubs. The staff are friendly and approachable and the manager is a hoot. Ales for all tastes, cask or keg. Cocktails and ciders if, for some strange reason, you don't like ale...and superb malt whiskey to round the evening off. Nice background music as well, missing from so many establishments these days. Great evening, could not find fault...even the loos are a work of art !

The Tank is a great place to visit for excellent local beer. The new manager Nicky really knows her stuff and is really welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to our next visit already.

We were taken round the town by a local with the aim of visiting a few pubs. The fact we started here and ended here tells you we had an exceptional evening.

Friends and I had a weekend in Gloucester and wanted to grab a bite to eat. Initially interior is nice, open and relaxing.Once we decided what we wanted and started to order at the bar, we soon realised that they don't do anything different from the menu which we thought wasn't very inclusive and the staff seemed very upset to be serving and very unhelpful.We ordered the chips, which took a while for them to arrive, for it then to come and the meat to be cold!The staff didn't do a check in on us and also just let our empty glasses and plates on the table.The pesto chips were really poor and badly presented.Disappointed in our visit.

We found the place very nice and the staff were very friendly. However the price for drinks were quiet expensive.

Over priced for a plate of burger and chips, should have gone to the fountain but wanted to try their pulled pork and beef burger, expected something special for £16 but was just a burger and chips. Disappointing.

Don't go out much, so bemused by the no cash policy and having to say what table you are at on an early evening, when actually quieter than my earlier visit. Probably the best bar in the area though.

We visited tank last month for my daughter's birthday which was ace, so much so we went back last week and again was very happy with the service. The managers Nick and Connor were great an even sang happy birthday to my daughter defo recommend

£6.50 per pint. Great range of beers, some bice bar staff “you get what you pay for” as the bar staff put it without prompting. Possibly they felt bad at charging £3.25 for half a pint. What is really telling is when random bar staff come over without printing to tell you whilst you are drinking your vet what a good deal it is.

Disappointing burger for almost £16. Think twice and have a burger somewhere else, the cuality here is not worth that money, seriously. Friendly staff and good atmosphere inside though.

Good evening spent with friends. Not too busy

Visited with the family and we were sat outside. There was no-one (customers) inside and only one other table occupied outside. We were directed to the table outside by the member of staff who then promptly failed to come and take our order. Another table came and set next to ours... they got served. I don't know what's going on with this place. I go (not as often as I'd like, sadly) because I really love the brewery's beer (West Coast Red is a particular favourite) but when I wanna eat here it always seems a chore. It got to the point that after an incident with food in 2019, I only came for the beer. On this occasion I never even got to have that beer in the 30 odd minutes we were sat there like a quad of Billy-no-mates. We left and went round the corner to the Brewhouse.

Had a great family meal here. Great food and brilliant service. Dog friendly as well👍🐶. The beers are top notch.
