We had booked 3 nights stay here but were a day late arriving as our ferry was cancelled, owing to fog. A 7 unit site with 2 showers with a toilet in the same room [En-suite]. One of the rooms was, imo, suitable for disabled guests. The facilities were clean with no extra charge for the showers. As the area was "remote" from the main site - hundred yards away and out of sight of the main site - access through the gate, into the shower/toilet block and chemical disposal point was by padlock code or Door Key Code. It worked and probably necessary as adjacent to the main road but slightly annoying. Good water supply and Grey water runoff easily accessed. The most expensive site we used in our holiday through the Outer Hebrides but West Harris Trust is a Community Charity so any profits presumably channelled back into Community Projects

Stopped off at the cafe on our way around Harris Service was ok and coffee and cake delicious However seats were wiped after each guest left and not dried. All a little overkill, particularly as no attention was given to crumbs and debris on the floor 🤷🏻‍♂️ Staff were ok but didn’t engage with any of the visitors, all of whom were tourists and would I’m sure have loved some form of interaction. Such a lost opportunity.

We had a good lunch here. It has a few indoor dog-friendly tables (which is good with the local weather!) as well as several tables outside. The serving staff had the feeling of young people learning their first jobs, but they were polite and well meaning. The food was good quality and the prices were in keeping with the islands, where transportation and other costs mean food is more expensive. Would come again.

Found this fabulous, modern restaurant which is Pet-friendly during our holiday to Lewis & Harris. I usually have to go inside a restaurant to check if they are pet-friendly, but this place has a clear sign outside with guidance - very smart & helpful. Two tables set aside for guests with a dog inside along with outside seating area. Varied menu and a spacious dining area with great views. Staff helpful & friendly - Unice had special attention which was much appreciated. Thanks to All.

Very nice and a perfect shelter from the rain. This is a community enterprise centre that has a restaurant included in it. There is also community space and an art gallery/shop. The restaurant was light, airy and clean with a lovely view. The food was simple but high quality - very nice home made soup, burgers etc. The servers were youngsters. I see others have been critical of the service but, if you this as foremost a community centre, I think the service is pretty good. Large, clean washrooms were also much appreciated, especially as we travelled with a disabled person.

Lovely setting and great quality food that was cooked beautifully. Huge improvement on previous restaurant management which was approaching being a rip off. Menu selection could be slightly wider but appreciate that isn't easy in a small community. The options on the menu are cooked excellently though with decent portion sizes. Great for families and spacious for high chairs etc. Unfortunately someone at our table had dog allergies which we told staff, so was disappointing the head waitress put tourists with a dog right next to us but other than that, great.

Visited midday when restaurant was half full. Pleasant welcome and allowed to sit where we wanted. Only ordered 2 coffees and a portion of chips but asked if we could have cheese on those and was instantly told no. Not really a difficult request and never even asked the chef if it was possible. Chips came and not really much of a portion for the cost. No cutlery and no serviettes. No one came to ask if everything was ok and for the type of restaurant you would expect them to come to you once you’d finished and then bring you the bill. Had to go and sort this myself at the counter. Quite disappointed in the service. Coffee was nice though.

On the booking form you're asked if this is a special occasion - it was. We were celebrating my 50th birthday. Don't know why they asked, we weren't seated at a window so had to enjoy the view around other people's heads and there was no mention of the occasion at all. The starters were delicious - tomato soup and haggis bonbons. The staff were friendly and efficient. The main courses were a disappointment on the whole. The fish and chips - fish cooked to perfection but the chips had clearly come out of the freezer and were oven chips. At £16.50 we expected better. The chicken and pesto tagliatelle was lovely for the first few mouthfuls, but became greasier and oilier the more I ate. I left half of it. The atmosphere was fairly non existent - as if people were scared to speak. The noise from the kitchen was a bit overwhelming - especially when metal trays (or metal somethings) were banged with force onto metal work tops. We had anticipated a lovely meal and were prepared to pay for it. In the end we felt slightly conned.

We have visited Talla na Mara before and been impressed by the imaginative design of the building, and the light and airy restaurant. However, the entrance now looks unprepossessing, and an untidy-looking campsite has appeared near by. I agree with the reviewer from April 23 who commented, ‘They should make up their mind whether they are a restaurant or a campsite!’ It was also off-putting, when we entered the restaurant, to find a waitress going round and round the floor with a broom, when it was only 7.00pm. The service did improve as the evening went on, though we heard comments about how busy and rushed they were – although only about half the tables were occupied. Perhaps the reservations system needs looking at, if staff feel that bookings need to be more spaced out. The food was OK, but we cancelled our booking for the next evening.

Food only just very average, visited with family, left feeling disappointed! Firstly, no daft beers available, sold out, no mussels, scallops or mackerel, also sold out. Seafood chowder very smokey taste, children’s garlic bread very well toasted and dry in taste. One of the children’s meals ( chicken goujons ) did not taste very good, strange taste to them. Seafood linguine lacked seasoning, however good portion size, once seasoned was ok. Steak was a little tough, not much taste to it. Fish and chips should be avoided! Batter very heavy, chips with skin on, frozen, oil needed changing, would have improved the taste, small amount of chips. Really disappointing meal, over priced for sure, service sadly also only just average. It’s a strange restaurant, in that it’s location is beautiful, but no real view as obscured by gazebo. It has some kind of gazebo attached to the front that looks onto the sea, but from the inside the restaurant it makes the view blurry. No atmosphere to the restaurant, it would have been lovely to have had some gentle Scottish music playing in the background, it really needs some character and charm. It’s charging more than average prices for less than average food and service, the location is beautiful but can’t really be seen when in the restaurant due to gazebo as mentioned. Disappointing experience in respect to restaurant, would not recommend or return.

This restaurant was an unexpected find like a treasure at the end of a rainbow. We were a party of 5 for lunch. The staff were lovely and I had the most amazing salad. It’s in a beautiful location and thoroughly recommended.

This was a very welcome stop, offering a delicious array of cakes. We arrived dripping wet having been caught in a storm whilst cycling the Hebridean Way. The staff were welcoming. My only complaint is that service was very slow - even taking into account the Hebridean way of life - this was just poor process.

We were staying in two of the three campervan pitches at this site, which is in a stunning location, and decide we would do a breakfast the following morning here. We went into the complex to check on opening times for the morning, which were on the board at the restaurant door as the restaurant was closed at that point. Next morning we went to find that the restaurant was not open at the prescribed time, we eventually found somebody to ask when they were opening as we were looking for breakfast. The manageress then came to tell us that they would not be open as they had a special group arriving that morning. We pointed out that this could have been intimated previously as we were now going to have to go find someplace else as we had packed up the campers. To this she replied that the only way she could have advertised the fact was by internet, I suggested a sign on the door the previous evening may have worked. This must have hit a nerve as she got the chefs to do us some very fine scrambled egg with smoked salmon and good toast. There was a problem , but it was solved well and we were neither hungry nor dissatisfied and the local crafts people did well out of us as we had been held there. So a result all round. The restaurant is a little clinical and has a stark feel to it, but the view is good.

Very disappointed in our recent visit for a family meal. The waiting staff where the worst I have experienced. Especially the managing waitress. She was loud, unfriendly, dressed unprofessionally in ripped jeans and hopeless at her job. The food was just OK. Fish pie was very heavily flavoured with mustard. The Harris lamb did not have much flavour. I doubt it was local Harris lamb. Portions where very small. The view is all that was good about this resturant.

Called in for a light lunch and was not disappointed, the place was quite busy but service was still good. Good variety and reasonable prices and brilliant view (even though the weather was not great)

The location and design of this restaurant and craft centre is wonderful, with its expanse of windows overlooking a beautiful bay. We called in hoping for a snack, and had a delicious lunch - fish and chips served with minted peas, an original and tasty idea; and fish pie with a garnish of grilled mussels - looked as good as it tasted. Service was friendly and efficient, and the view was outstanding!

The place feels a bit odd. The decor is somewhat spartan and everything is hard surfaces, but the food is superb. Simple, but scrumptions. I had the Moules Marinieres and they were gorious. I highly recommend the Cranachan, which contained Scalpay honey.

A great place for lunch when touring Harris. The menu is excellent and the staff were extremely friendly. The views are stunning and I’m sure if you were lucky enough to get a hot day a seat outside overlooking the bay would be bliss. Very glad we chose this spot for our refuelling.

Found the staff unfriendly and not very welcoming. We went for lunch and when our order arrived it was incorrect. When I mentioned that I had also ordered a soup the waiter only said ok. Not an apology. However, when we went to may the waitress apologised. The food was well presented but the soup was not particularly hot. I felt it was over priced as they have the monopoly in the area

Had dinner here on Monday 15th April. Both had fish and it was lovely. Children enjoyed desserts too. Friendly service too. Nice to have an eating option in this area of West Coast now that Hebridean Art café is no more.

We went early in the week for dinner. Quite a good menu with lots of seafood. Service was good and friendly and the views looking out to sea were lovely. A wee bit disappointing that they didn't have about 4 of the items on the menu. We made our choices and were not disappointed with our food. Well cooked and presented and very tasty. We would return and recommend it.

Been here before and knew the cafe/restaurant was pricey, but when on holiday you don;t mind paying a bit extra for quality and to feed the local economy. However, with limited stops for refreshments we were prepared to wait (45 minutes) for 5 cyclists. Ordered the fishcakes (or so we thought) but all we got was one fishcake (which was lovely) on a small bed of watercress. Nearly choked on the £8.50 price tag though. Shame it marred an otherwise great day out. I would have been embarassed to have served that up for the price.

Foncez!

Met up with family here for lunch on a sunny October day. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed the food. The seafood chowder was delicious and filling. The sandwiches looked very tasty and the bread was lovely. Coffee and cake afterwards was excellent too. Some lovely home baking. My only grumble; my flat white could have been hotter.

Very good food and attentive service. Not sure why this place is not heaving and perpetually fully booked. Other places in Stornoway were booked solid but were not as interesting. It must be newish so it’s reputation as a restaurant hasn’t yet spread.

Woodlands Center is located in Stornoway. It is a very peculiar wooden house, a teahouse made entirely of trees, and it is built in the jungle. The scenery is beautiful and the temperature is cool.
