Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

I can’t thank Jess and the team enough for their hospitality and care shown to us yesterday for a family event. 43 of us in total. They went the extra mile and couldn’t have done more to help in what has been a tough time for the family recently. I am sad to see the other reviews, as a family we have eaten at this little coffee shop for years. Small local businesses should be supported so they survive. I would go here any day for a coffee and lunch. Thank you Jess x

Agree with other reviews where the narrative has been "ridiculously expensive". That not being the main negative. We have visited before. This time hoping for improvement in customer service. The young girl found us a table straight away and was very polite. However. The older female staff were rude. One looked us up and down when we asked if we could please have a menu. After we were seated. I asked the other older lady chatting to the family at the next table to us. If we could place an order. She snapped at me saying she would ask one of the other girls to take our order. She spent more time speaking to her "table of friends" about her retirement than making sure non regulars were taken care of. Worst service I have experienced for a very long time as a regular cafe goer. Won't bother again.

I have been visiting this establishment for 28 years with happy memories but unfortunately our more recent experiences have been tarnished . “Wait to be seated” sign when only one table occupied, not sure that is necessary. A pleasant waitress helped us chose a seat, another waitress brought the tray containing our order and immediately asked would you like to pay now ? We then felt obliged to pay there and then and was then asked cash or card? The order was left on the tray for us to remove, normally if waitress service I’d expect it to be removed from the tray before being asked to pay. This made us feel like criminals. There were 4 members of staff and just the two tables occupied so not as though anyone could leave without being seen. I understand on busy occasions and for those seated outside it could be difficult to keep a check on all tables. I wonder if maybe money should be taken at the time of order to avoid this or let us approach the counter to order and pay there but there was also a sign asking for customers not to come to the counter preventing this and meaning you could not look at produce on offer ahead of ordering. I do understand there may be people trying to leave without paying, but please don’t treat us all like criminals.

After being invited to the above for lunch on Mother’s Day I would like to thank all the staff for there warm curious welcome. Four adults, and one baby seated in a quiet corner in a wonderful conservatory, was just the ticket to celebrate Mother’s Day. Food was excellent, with a wide range of menu available, the hot food comprising of turkey or lamb, with all the trimmings was very well presented, and tasted beautiful. We finished off with a sweet and coffee, and would highly recommend this venue, value for Money , great company a must if your ever in the area. three Matthew.

This cafe could be great as the staff are pleasent but unfortunately the food is awful. First of all our Capuchinos served in smaller than usual cups for £3.30 were hot milk with virtually no coffee. We sent them back and the replacements were just about acceptable. I received a cereal bowl of watery unpleasant luke warm soup with a tiny roll probebly previously frozen. What I should have got was a soup bowl of hot soup and a fresh crusty roll for my £5.95. My husband had pork pie, pickle, salad and a massive great lump of cheese. None of it was nice, the pork pie tasted old the pickle hard and the cheese was grainy. I saw quiche and salad served to someone else and it looked poor. I don't mind paying more for good food but hate paying over the odds for lousy food.

Tall Trees have no vegan lunch options and very few vegetarian ones. The quiche was nice but had clearly been heated up in the microwave and the salad that accompanied it was very meagre. No sauces or dressings given or offered. No milk alternatives for tea/coffee except soya, which I'm usually fine with but found this one undrinkable as the taste was so unpleasant. Staff were pleasant and service quick, but no-one asked at any point if I was happy with my meal. It's a nice garden centre but I won't be hurrying back to the cafe. Overpriced and disappointing.

Meeting friends and we were early so stopped for a drink and something to eat. Gluten free cake menu was a little restrictive….. but they had some and it wasn’t the plastic packaged stuff, it was like homemade. My other half had savoury scone with chilli jam and cheese which I’m told was good. A coffee and a pot of tea with cakes for £14.05. Not cheap but not expensive and allowed us to waste a little time in comfort and warmth.

At £3:25, one of the most expensive latte's I've had for a LONG time! Not only that, it was so incredibly hot, I had to stir and blow it for ages before it was drinkable. Then, the flavour was just SO bland, almost like just hot milk. Please send the manager to somewhere like the Rutland arms in Bakewell to see how coffee SHOULD be made! Oh, and it's 25p cheaper there too.

Called in for lunch to Tall Trees as it was convenient for my mother and daughter, we sat down and were shown the menu on a blackboard, perhaps 6 choices. It was not in clear writing very scrawny. We ordered a jacket potato, quiche and a pate with bread. At the time I couldn't read the price of my pate, but the others were £7.95 I think and I thought to myself it won't be any more than that as mine wasn't a cooked food!. We received good service a little disappointed no one came to see how our food was as you normally get, the pate was lovely, not enough bread provided. It consisted of a baby bread loaf, tablespoon of bean salad, tablespoon of a type of coleslaw and a slice of chicken liver and cranberry pate probably a bit bigger than a Mars bar. All was very nice no complaints there. But when we came to pay it was £9.50!!!!!! for the Pate I couldn't believe it. I expressed my disgust to the lady assistant and she said she would pass on the comments. This meal was not even cooked at service unlike the quiche and jacket potato how does it justify £9.50!!. The menu needs to be written in clearer writing it was worth no more than a £4.95 starter!.

We decided to have a drive out and visit Tall Trees for a morning out & have some ‘brunch’ as our last visit was very pleasant! This time not so much! We arrived at the cafe with a very cold welcome is the only way to put it! We felt very rushed, the minute we sat down we were asked what we wanted quite rudely, no menus just pointed to the board on the wall. We opted for a toasted tea cake and a hot drink, The following were neither. A Luke warm tea & coffee and a large stodgy tea cake that didn’t even look like it had seen a toaster served with rock hard butter.. not ideal. As soon as our food had arrived the lady came straight over with the card machine asking if we were paying cash or card, I was a little set back as we hadn’t even had time to start our food! There was a few members of staff stood behind the counter, they all looked miserable and not at all welcoming, we quickly ate what we could and left due to just a bad meal and feeling rather unwelcome! Really disappointed and felt a waste of a drive out! Hopefully it was just an off day, as I said we had been before and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'd been here before with my wife (who's a very keen gardener) and had been impressed by the food and service. This visit was just me, after a day of walking locally. Once again the food was fine. I had a tasty blue cheese scone (one of my favourites), but I also asked for a side salad, which wasn't on their "official" menu. The waitress said she would make one for me, which she did, without any fuss. It was very good.I was served speedily and the waitress was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. I'd be very happy to return, maybe for a full lunch meal.

My wife and I have visited Tall Trees on a number of occasions, sometimes even buying garden centre products while we are there. The main reason we go there though is for the cafe. It's not a 5* restaurant and if you want that, go to a 5* restaurant. It's a garden centre cafe and a really good one at that. The food is home made, the drinks are on par with the best and the service is very good. If, like us, what you want is a snack, a drink and a comfortable seat in a pleasant atmosphere then try it. We have never been disappointed.

I have completed almost 400 reviews and the recent poor reviews of Tall Trees bares no relation to my experience. Best thing to do is try it yourself. We all have different standards and expectations My review is five star because for what I paid this is what I got. A fabulous large scone. Probably the best I have tasted in a very long time. In fact this will be my benchmark going forward. Top Scone. My family had a variety of items and all were as expected. Very nicely served in a clean and pleasant establishment. The hot chocolate laced with cream and marshmallows would have beaten me but my Dad in his eighties wolfed it down. I hope that my un biased review will tempt you to try it. Thanks to the team. I went with my wife for a cake and a drink. I foolishly chose the savoury cream tea which you would imagine consisted of a scone and tea. My wife had a latte and cake. My scone was unremarkable and fruit tea was nice. My wife thought her drink okay (not worth£4:25) and cake was dry. The total bill was 13:95 and surprised that cream tea contained no tea(extra charge made).staff having received our query were both brusque in manner and less than welcoming. Overall an experience not worth repeating especially as there are several welcoming and affordable establishments nearby.plus I have now learned a cream tea doesn't mean tea,!!!An overpriced haven for those yearning to be educated in mediocrity and unexciting fayre. Called in on spec for a late-ish lunch. This is an independent café in an independent garden centre, quite a rare combination these days. The café is fairly small, with a chalk on blackboard menu that seems to change frequently, featuring local produce. Portions aren’t over large, but we thought this was an example of quality overriding quantity. Really tasty dishes, original menu, table service, friendly staff, prompt attention. For a garden centre caff, this is really good, and if we ever pass this way again we’ll make a point of revisiting. We approve. Eat here.

This establishment is popular but I don’t know why. I have decided to rewrite my opinion on this cafe as my last report had poor vocabulary. Dear Ms Joyce. My scone was poor. I’ve had very good Sunday lunches at Tall Trees in the past. I was very disappointed today. I had the roast turkey. It was served with two roast potatoes, carrots, one floret of broccoli, green beans, cabbage, a chipolata and gravy. The turkey tasted smoked although they hadn’t advertised it as such. The skin was grey and slimy. When I asked about it, the waitress said it was ‘double roast’ and supposed to be like that. The potatoes were mainly white with just a corner browned. They were cooked though. All of the veg looked and tasted like they had been cooked yesterday and reheated. Everything tasted salty although I hadn’t added salt. The waitress said they did not add salt to anything. This was priced at £11.95. Although the waitress was sympathetic and said she had passed on the complaint I was left with the impression they thought the meal was fine. I won’t be going back particularly because they can’t recognise when they have fallen short.

As we'd dropped in before and enjoyed a coffee and scone we decided to try lunch. It was far too warm and stuffy inside, which made it uncomfortable to stay for any length of time, but no umbrellas were out on the decking area, so we opted to stay in. The waitresses were friendy and quickly responded with our drinks, but the food was a different matter. After a very lengthy wait (it seemed to be being prepared by only 1, very grumpy woman), it eventually arrived, but we were very disappointed by the quality of the food and the very meagre portions. For what it is, it's also expensive when compared to other establishments in the area. Poor service (in terms of the food), poor value. We had not visited Tall Trees since a previous encounter had left us less than happy. However we do like to support local business, so after a number of years we tried again. We ordered coffee, which when it arrived was not very hot! Now in fairness to the lady that I spoke too about it, she was very apologetic and did not charge me for the coffee! My issue is that she stated that the temperature of the coffee was correct as, in her words, that's how it comes out of the dispenser! If that is true then it ranks as the worst coffee imaginable. Coffee should be hot and strong, not Luke warm! If you can stick your finger in it, without fear of injury, then there is something fundamentally wrong with how its made.

I took my mum for lunch and we both chose a salad. I chose the salmon & prawn salad. My generous portion of salmon & prawns were served in a prawn cocktail sauce and accompanied by an equally generous portion of homemade coleslaw. Disappointingly the 'salad' was a small portion of fresh leaves. The 'salad' was served with a small portion of tasty bread. In summary it was a a rather odd combination of prawn cocktail and coleslaw with a tiny salad on the side more like a large starter than a main course salad and definitely not a healthy choice. My mums smoked salmon salad came with a reasonable number of slices of smoked chicken accompanied by coleslaw and a tiny salad of fresh leaves. We finished off with 2 coffees and paid £22. There were no drinks on the bill as we asked for water with our meal. It's obviously a very popular cafe so maybe we made a bad choice but there are plenty of other places around Two Dales that offer better value.

Spending a half hour at this excellent Garden Centre we decided to try the Tall Trees for a coffee and a scone. The restaurant/cafe overlooks the outdoor area and is light inside. The large home made scones are amazing and I've not come across such options before - Apple and marzipan, cherry and almond and ginger flavoured as well as the usual fruit scones. It was busy at lunchtime but we noticed that tables can be reserved and there was a really good choice of hot and cold mains and snacks. The walk way from Tall Trees leads back to a well-stocked gift shop with an interesting array of unusual items. Will visit again.

I took my daughter and her two year old for lunch and a little shopping last week.Although they managed a high chair (with no straps) there were no changing facilities at all. The toilets access directly from outdoors and have concrete floors. My daughter eventually changed the baby in the boot of the hatchback, very chilly as it is December! The food is very good but my daughter won't be joining me again.

We visited here for lunch. We had one wheelchair and one lactose intolerant diner both of which the charming staff coped with with no fuss at all. We had a lovely meal from the varied menu and will certainly visit again on our next trip to Derbyshire. The cafe is situated in a garden centre with a marvellous gift shop, which makes it the perfect venue for a "trip out"

We have been going to Tall Trees for 4 years. They do the best roast beef sunday lunch with meat that simply melts in the mouth. The meals are very generous and come with an ample amount of really tasty gravy-something which is often in short supply at other eateries. Yorkshire puds are home made and delicious and there is usually about 5 different veg with the meal. Desserts are plentiful, home made and delicious and if you only go in for a snack, the cakes and scones are to die for! Excellent coffee as well and service is always prompt with smiling and welcoming staff. A bonus is visiting the garden centre and lovely shop on the premises.

We eat regularly at Tall Trees and love the food. Everything is home cooked by a very talented chef. Tall Trees is not the most local place to us for a roast dinner but we come here because it is the best.Always made to feel very welcome and that includes our baby too.We wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I have been here a few times because it is the only place that I know if that serves four or five different varieties of amazing scones! However, the staff pounce on you as soon as you sit down. They don't speak, they just stand there. You dont even have time to pick up the menu. Every member of staff I have come across are miserable. They don't speak unless they have to and even then, its quite sharp, they don't even smile. However I had a pleasant surprise this time when a young woman with long blonde hair approached, smiled AND spoke to us before taking our order! Shocked! The food is quite expensive but it is nice, which is the only reason I keep going back.

Visited many times. Called in Easter Saturday for tea and coffee cake. Delicious. Called in again Easter Monday. Oh no cafe closes at 4pm. Spoils the garden centre in my opinion. Should close half hour later at least.

Food is always good and the service good with a smile. Unfortunately they don't allow dogs so if it's cold pooch has to stay outside.

We went for lunch and were not disappointed with the food, not a very big selection but its fresh so that's fine. Coffee very good. Staff helpful. Disappointing Christmas decorations and the Christmas lights in conservatory are very poor!

We visited here a couple of times and found that although the menu is somewhat limited, the food is very nice. We got the impression that this is very much a place for ladies who lunch! The quiche are very good served with a side salad and the portions are ample. Staff are friendly and efficient. All in all there is a very pleasant atmosphere and the garden centre and gift shop are worth a visit too.

For a garden centre, this restaurant is lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We both had quiches, which were like home-made and served warm with salad. There was a good selection of cakes, too.

It's the first time I have visited and I was pleasantly surprised. I only required a light lunch and chose the soup, which was served with chunky wholemeal and white bread. The carrot, coriander and orange soup was very tasty. It was piping hot and quite substantial. I also had a delicious home made cherry and almond scone which was served with butter, jam and cream. It was huge and the best scone I have for a long, long time. At £3.25 it was good value. There were some unusual and tempting dishes on the menu which left me feeling I would return.Staff were very friendly and happily supplied extra hot water for our tea.

Called in here by chance, the baguettes were fantastic withan excellent side salad, all home made the scone menu was very unique I wanted to try them all but we settled for sharing a lemon and ginger one, it was huge. Yes the menu is a little limited - it's a small premisis, and yes it's a little expensive but the food was excellent ample portion and well presented . The staff were helpful and friendly. All in all we would definately eat here again.

On the whole a lovely feel to this coffee shop/restaurant. But, do they really have to charge £2.15 for a standard can of coke!

Haven't been for many years when we used to drop in fairly often after calling at the adjacent garden centre. Pleased that we found it to be still in business. We just had afternoon tea this time and can't fault the service or choice of cakes etc. Hopefully we can call again more regularly in future and have a full meal. Recommend.

we live 14 miles away . this has been our default place to eat for 20 years. All home made very good quality food at reasonable prices. nice salads and quiches, excellent home made cakes . the usual meat and veg style meals on sunday as well.the scones are fresh every day and particularly nice , and very large . i am a 15stone cyclist and even i find them a challenge. The comment above about portion size must refer to a particular choice and expectation that was not met. they don't do enormous fry-ups, but you can eat your way through the menu if you are a big eater. I almost never manage more than one course .the conservatory building is lovely to sit in ;light and with a view of the garden centre .

We had lunch at Tall Trees at the weekend and although the food was good the portions were minuscule-poor value for money. We eat out a lot in the local area and I am sure that we will not be sampling Tall Trees again. Very disappointing!

Called in for a coffee was very disappointed with the place. It was dirty and scruffy, doesn’t look as though it’s been cleaned in months. The toilet facilities were disgusting as for the food, was this a Bakewell tart as there was no sign of the usual recipe. It was soft the pastry was disgusting I would not recommend this place as they need to close it and give it a good facelift. They also need Gordon Ramsey on the case!!!!!!

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????
