Talardd Arms in Carmarthenshire

Y Talardd is everything you want in delivering excellence in great pub food. The food is prepared with both textures and flavours in mind. Though they’re not big on starters (just as well with their puds in mind! Later!) we went straight to mains, with a vegetarian guest in the group a Harrissa and chickpea spread on a flatbread with blended veggies in the mixed paste and cabbage and pomegranate seeds, tomato with pomegranate jus, looked and tasted stunning without being poncy. Huge Hunters Chicken with salad and chips (Genuinely large portions!) perfectly cooked and a Lamb and Leek pie to die for. Wish I knew what was in that mash, but what goes on in the kitchen stays in the kitchen……. The puds…. A masterclass in sticky toffee pudding, absolutely delightful and a vegan chocolate torte a perfect end to a lovely dining experience When you love what you do it shows in the result. Tonight’s food was a testament to pub food excellence.

Called in on the off chance. Very quiet , but it was a Tuesday. Both had steak tagliatelle which was very good. We both agreed that the steak was the best we had had in a very long time. Based on this have booked in for the Sunday roast

Sat there for 10 minutes nobody even acknowledged that we arrived. No sign of anybody. Nobody at the bar and no menus The place is a disaster, dirty, ugly, and no staff to speak of. A very sad state of affairs Textraveller

Lovely dog friendly pub. The garden is being landscaped to accommodate customers. The food is excellent. There is a pool table and darts board in the back room.

We stopped at this lovely and welcoming little place on our way past for a light lunch. We had cod bites, whitebait and a bowl of chips to share. Plenty of bites and baits for the price, with a nice side salad. Chips were nice and plentiful and the beer cold and went down smooth. Staff were welcoming and the price was great value for the quality food served. We highly recommend a visit, nice beer garden too and they are very dog friendly Spot on

Great pub had 2 real ales on at time of visit very well kept, dog friendly food is amazing choice of 12 desserts, food servings very generous lots of choice and options for different appetites. The burgers are great , my wife's veggie ploughman's was the best she thinks she has ever had

Called into YTalardd by chance...what a pleasant surprise...food was 10/10, Sunday roast beef , lemon and lime cheesecake was outstanding. If your looking for the roast home for home this is the place for you.

We went Sunday lunchtime and it was very quiet but the food and the service were outstanding

Decided to be lazy and go here for Sunday Lunch. It was great, I had a plate full of turkey Sunday Lunch. The best way to say how good it was is look at all our empty plates

Had a lovely time here. Lovely food and plenty of it. We had sausages and mash,chilli con carne,fish bits and chips and drinks. Reasonable price . Friendly staff and i would recommend going there.

The food was spot on, hot, well presented, reasonably priced. There was a wait but we were made aware when we ordered. I work in a pub and know how getting the balance right is a hard task. We will be back to sample some more of your menu

We arrived earlier than planned, which was just as well. Our first impressions upon arrival were good, with a nice fire going in the log burner, a very cosy pub. We were all disappointed that none of the steaks listed on the menu were available as all 3 of us would probably have gone for this option. We ordered our food at about 5.55pm and waited and waited, getting hungrier and hungrier, our meals eventually arrived at 6.45pm, so nearly an hours wait. This is pretty bad as there was only one other table of 4 people seated having a meal before us. The food was hot when it arrived, the chips were the frozen type and not home made, my huntsman chicken was a good size but not cooked as much as I would have liked. It was difficult to cut into with a blunt knife and I could have done with a steak knife as it was a struggle to cut through the large chicken fillet with thick bacon wrapped around it. My son didn't like the ketchup and noticed that it was tasteless. The bar man and his son were very helpful. The organisation of the kitchen possibly needs improving so that food leaving it is speeded up.

Good food, friendly staff, good place but unfortunately I wasn't happy with the wait, me and mother were waiting almost an hour for our meal to arrive and we felt very hungry after a long day so I am disappointed with the staff I think they lack customer care and might need more training but if we hadn't of waited so long I would have definitely came back but unfortunately we won't.

Always a great meal with plenty on the plate. We have been here for food a few times. This evening we were served by a young chap that was polite, friendly and always more than happy to help. Definitely recommend.

A great little pub that is truly Welsh! The owners were lovely and so welcoming! We stopped for some food and a few drinks. The pies were amazing and homemade, fresh every day. The portions were big and we left happy and full. The pub is very dog friendly and our little pup also had plenty of strokes and love from everyone! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The pub itself could do with some updating but as the owners have just taken over, that is understandable. We had a great evening and so did our pooch!

Unfortunately not very organised no menu just told it was beef, turkey or both no time to have a drink before the meal as the meal arrived very quickly plated up on not very warm plates, no mention of gravy we had to ask there was only one person serving the meals so we had to wait for all of us to have our meals before the gravy arrived then there wasn't enough to go around! We had to ask for sauces i.e horseradish and cranberry but we do have to say the meal itself was very tasty and plenty of it but much prefer our meal not to be plated up so much better to be in serving dishes so you can then help your self rather than be over faced with an overflowing plate.

Proper Welsh village pub. Simply furnished but cosy. The food is out of this world. Virtually all homemade, huge portions freshly cooked to order. Sunday lunch is something to behold! Choice of 2 meats, 8 yes 8 vegetables, Yorkshire pud, and 2 gravies. Puddings are to die for. Good honest country pub food and very reasonable prices served with a smile 😃 Don't expect flash fake surroundings but if you want to eat go here but go hungry!

HONEST HOME MADE FOOD & DOG FRIENDLY PUB Me and my wife were staying in the area and looked up dog friendly pubs near me. How pleased were we, especially when the food came out...if you're hungry this is the place to eat! The prices are great! We had chilli on nachos and Hunters chicken. I had to finish my wife's chilli as the portion was too big for her! The only suggestion we have for mains...maybe separate the chilli from the nachos in its bowl so they don't go too soggy... We opted for a takeaway desert - blackberry and apple pie with custard...it was delicious and the lemon and lime cheese cake is amazing! All home made food and the NEW LAND LADY HAS ONLY BEEN THERE 4 WEEKS would definitely go back and would recommend it! I've gave a 3 star on atmosphere as it was a middle of the week and quiet. If you're on holiday or a local please give this place a try!

Fantastic home cooked roast. A bit of confusion to start with, however this was easily sorted. Massive portion of fantastic food. I would recommend.

6 of us stopped at Y Mari Glyn unaware that it has changed hands some 3 weeks ago. I am so glad we stayed! The food was fresh, simple and delicious. My garlic mushrooms tagliatelle was superb, portion very generous and at a really reasonable price. Toby, a partner in the new ownership was a fantastic, energetic and refreshingly honest server and made us laugh several times. Moreover, Toby's Mum bakes the cakes from the dessert menu and to say they, too, are delicious, is an understatement 😋 We live in Devon but we are planning another trip to beautiful Wales in September when I will be booking a table at Y Mari Glyn again

Y Mari Glyn (as it’s now called), is a lovely country pub. The landlady is very welcoming and friendly. We had an excellent homemade meal. We will definitely be calling again. Diolch yn fawr.

Talardd now under new management. I live in the village and had a Sunday roast there on 05/02/23. It was absolutely beautiful,all freshly cooked, tasted lovely & plenty of food for one person 😋 Credit to Simon,Sue & Autumn & their chef Julia. 10 out of 10

Lovely friendly staff. We had a very tasty and filling meal. Having read another review about the whitebait and aoli, we definitely recommend it.

This is now the Y Mari Glyn, under new management, they do the most delicious meals & are very friendly. I recommend it very highly. 🙂

I went to the Talardd with a party of friends. I was very disappointed with the dinner it was only warm and the plates were cold, trifle was awful. Not going there again.

Changed ownership very disappointed Poor menu compared with that of previous owners more pub grub than what had been available at lunch time previously. Had been Visiting twice yearly and been served wonderful food excellent menu choice. Won't be returning for food when next in Llanllwni. Sorry.

Just got back from a lovely meal here, beautiful home cooked food, portions were extremely generous - including the children's portions! it reminded us of a proper country pub. Lots to choose from on the menu, and the staff were extremely accomadating and friendly. We are on holiday in a nearby village, and have said when we come back in a few years time we will certainly visit the Y Talardd again! Thanks! 😊

Called at The Talardd as we were passing by a Friday evening. It was fully booked and extremely busy but we had a lovely welcome and Nia fitted us in. We had a fantastic meal. I had Welsh rarebit and my partner had garlic mushrooms, gorgeous. For main we both had sirloin steak and it was outstanding. We will definitely be calling again. Can’t recommend enough. Fab courteous helpful staff. Good selection of beer and gins which is my favourite. A must try for everyone.

Turned up here at 20:50 with 8 hungry travelers. We were greeted with a decent choice of Beer and the availability of the staff to fit in our late orders for the kitchen. Quality was good and the portions were more than generous! Recommended.

Today's Sunday dinnerventure took us to the Talardd Arms in Llanllwni. Lovely home made dinner that was full of taste and very reasonable priced as well. Gravy was immemse and the staff were very welcoming. Highly recommend guys and we will be back 👌🏻

Wonderful warm welcome, open tuesday lunchtime and serving food! 19/03/19. Closed again second time visited this year, closed both times doubt if we shall bother again??? Last chance! This site says pub is open but small notice on side of porch gives new opening hours Evenings only Mon. Tues. Weds. Didn't bother reading the rest. WILL NOT RETURN! So few pubs open lunchtime hereabouts??

Wow the food was great I had a praw cocktail starter with garlic bread side it was huge no need for the garlic bread quiz was funny not too stuck up snobby quiz it was fun Food great quiz great staff great we will be coming back even if we are last!!

Decided on a whim to have dinner here on a Saturday. I probably should have booked, but the welcome is friendly and they found a table for me. The beer is excellent - I recommend Towy Gold - and the food is wholesome, tasty and filling. I chose the Chicken Platter, which was advertised as being too big to fit on one plate - and what came didn’t disappoint. Thoroughly recommend Y Talardd.

Another wonderful evening in the Talardd. Stuffed to bursting with delicious grub, lovely log fire to keep off the chill and an atmosphere to warm your heart. Nia and James (plus the staff) make it a great family pub. A birthday well spent. Diolch pawb.

The landlord was very friendly but I was really I'll after eating here. I had toast for breakfast then lunch here. I gave some of my burger to our dog and the dog and I were really poorly for a few days.

I have just had the most perfectly cook fillet steak (blue) served with a sauce that was to die for. This meal was on the special board I just has to go on too the main menu, can’t wait to go back and have it again.

Service was good but the food was mediocre. 4 in my party sent theirs back as it was inedible. The owner was very apologetic and offered us alternatives but nobody wanted to eat anything else. Spoilt the evening

It was our first visit and we weren’t disappointed . All three courses were fabulous . Spoilt for choice both in terms of food and drink. They apologised for the slow service as one of their chefs had phoned in as their house had been flooded but the service wasn’t at all slow. Will definately make a point of returnung

Food really gone downhill. Have given it a couple of chances because we used to love it so much - but last time in the bar wasnt a nice experience. Food was again - really disappointing, we didnt get a warm welcome, and we had to sit and listen to 4 elderly men swearing constantly at the next table - which went completely unchecked by the staff. Have now decided never to go back.

Stopped here with family on the way home from Carmarthen, i had the sirloin steak and chips and it was to die for, cooked to perfection, great value for money, friendly staff and a lovely little pub. I have called many times in the past and will be calling again as I have never once had a bad meal here

Beautifully quaint country pub serving excellent food with a surprising amount of options. Polite and friendly staff. Well kept beer. Would recommend this pub for romantic or celebrational meals out.

Visited here with my wife and two children (aged 7 & 10) whilst on short break in the area. Initially visited on a Saturday evening and all had really lovely dinner, great pub grub with generous portions and really friendly service.

We were a party of 14 and all ordered different starters and mains. Everyone was happy with their food and we were given a large room at rear for the family dinner.

Absolutely fantastic meal tonight. All chefs alert seek out this chef and get a lesson how to cook the Great British chip.

Traditional Welsh pub, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Prices vary and i haven't tried the food, but i've heard its great too.

This is a very convenient country pub if staying at Dolcoed, a relatively new naturist campsite, which is about a quarter of a mile away.

Owners are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit for great atmosphere. Events held throughout the year.

Good food well presented, good selection of ales/lager and cider

Whilst staying at the School House in Pencader, we were recommended to the Talarrdd Arms in LLanllwni, it was a great find !! first time saw us returning each evening for our main meal. Good food and great menu. The pub is run by James who is the chef and Nia. It is a pub for the local people and very popular, one needs to book as gets very busy. The bar and waiting staff were very good and friendly. All the food is locally sourced and James is a great chef. Would definitely recommend.

Called in with friends on a Saturday evening to be greeted by friendly staff. After being shown to our table for four there was a delay in getting menues due to a table of 10. Whether there were not enough menues or they wanted to get the large order in first I don't know but that is the reason for 4 stars and not 5. Having said that the delay was not to long and when the food came it was very nice indeed. I would certainly recommend a visit when in the area.

Sorry, but we are disappointed locals following the fairly recent management change and it’s unusual for us to grumble as we’re easy-going individuals. As ever, the young waiting staff are friendly and efficient. Full marks to them they earn their stars. Management attitude is an issue here for us. Our two visits following the take-over have not met with success. Willing to forgive and forget our first call when, hungry and tired, we called at about ten past eight for a meal to be told that the chef had finished for the day as it had been busy (but could serve us a pudding) we headed for the Belle Vue down the road for a predictable welcome and delicious meal. Our next visit was overshadowed when a meal was served that was not as depicted on the menu. We asked to speak to the Chef but he was too busy and his co-partner did not appear when asked so the meal was eaten as we were a group of four. Additionally, it was unfair to leave the young waiters deal with this and so we dropped it until it came to pay for the meal and the opportunity to express our displeasure. The new managers here do need to learn about customer service. To blame your young waiting staff for not informing you of an un-highlighted menu swap done three months ago (how silly of us not to know) is totally unacceptable and then audaciously imply that as a customer your protest was unreasonable is wanting. Replacing prime cuts with a cheaper inferior product at the same (costly) price is going to cause customer dissatisfaction. The food at Talardd is of an OK standard but not so good to get away with this. We wish the couple well but gently suggest to treat customers respectfully and refrain from being defensive when customers offer mild criticism. The Talardd is no longer on our calling list with plenty of local pubs offering a good standard of food and service .

We haven't been here for 40 years but what a welcome: Friendliest service we have ever had. The food was lovely too. We had a lamb shank and a surf and turf. All delicious and we will be back again soon to try other things on the interesting menu at the Talardd.
