Taj Tandoori in Cambridge

I'm staying in Cambridge for a couple of months and ordered a takeaway from here, based on the reviews. For starter, I ordered the onion bhajis which were a good portion size and tasted nice. For main, I ordered the garlic chilli king prawn dish, which was somewhat disappointing. It had a decent flavour, but it didn't contain king prawns - they were quite small and squishy. The sauce also lacked the thick texture one would hope for with an onion fried dish. Overall, okay, but didn't live up to the reviews.

Had a fantastic time all the people were very friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty we had a party for the newly weds. They surprised us with a cake and ice cream for the couple which the couple enjoyed. Thank you for the lovely evening truly enjoyed by the whole family 👍

Service with a smile, and outstanding food. Can’t say fairer than that, except to say that The Bengal Tiger is my favourite curry in the country, and I travel a lot. Cannot praise this place highly enough

Hadn't booked and even though the restaurant was busy we were soon found a table. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, checking we were ok. The food was just amazing. Delicious. Definitely recommend

We thought we’d messed up because we came out late. We checked out Taj on Trip advisor and they were super accomodating. Front man sorted us out proper. My white skinned English lady had some questions and he went into the kitchen and made sure she had a perfect curry. She is good at spice tho. He made sure we felt full of flavour. Front man (I’ll get his name by the end of this review.) took us off menu and told the kitchen what he thought we’d like. Not saying the menu is bad, just how he is. Respect to EDIT: Naim was his name. But please don’t let him take all the credit. I have to give huge huge ginormous respect to the chefs. They are the heroes. The glue. And my white skinned lady

Out of principle I would NEVER visit here! Rude staff. I came here with my family late evening with no other open Indian restaurants nearby an hour or so before close time to be turned away. I asked the man at the counter why we couldn't sit in to eat, and he said we are only doing deliveries at this time. When I asked him when they stopped eating in he said NOW. He could have got us seated as we were new customers espeically when the restaurant was still busy with several tables occupied! I have a small kid and a baby and the owner had no compassion! DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR! NOT SURE HOW THEY GET GOOD REVIEWS, probaby paid.

Delicious food, excellent chef and service and accommodating!

Never misses, every time food is phenomenal, service is fantastic and the flavour is just outstanding. Loaded chips, biryani, butter chicken, jalfrezi, masala, you name it, it’s delicious!

An out-of-town Indian - definitely worth the travel time. This is a superlative Indian restaurant where the food is taken seriously (credit to the chefs, but also to the restaurant for finding the chefs). Full of locals, not tourists.

This is our 4th time visiting the restaurant. It is without a doubt the best curry I've ever had. The food and the flavours are just incredible.... not only is the food delicious but the service is just as good. You made to feel extremely welcome and there's such a happy atmosphere inside the restaurant. We visited tonight as it was our daughter's Birthday and thank you for really looking after us and for the Birthday surprise too! We can't wait to come back soon... we shall continue to tell everyone to come and visit you!

Finally got around to visiting you try their Sunday roast and we'll definitely be visiting many more times. The meat was beautifully cooked and spiced. The potatoes were crispy and the Yorkshire pudding was an inspired choice of flavors. They were also great with children: I was a little worried about the lack of kids menu but they were very accommodating and our normally fussy 3 year old filled himself to bursting!

Genuinely great restaurant, great variety of dishes and some top notch cooking. Couldn't recommend the staff curry highly enough, up there with some of the best curry's I've eaten. Attentive service, good value and great atmosphere too. Would definitely seek this place out if you're in Cambridge

Have been living near cherry Hilton for a few years but just discovered this hidden gem! Absolutely enjoyed everything there, especially the staff curry and the garlic naan. Service was exceptional, everyone was so friendly, would definitely visit again.

Absolutely fabulous food but sadly really chilly in the restaurant. Kept our coats on as we were so cold. I assume there may have been a problem with the heating and that this was a one off.

Seating is ample and comfortable, and love that they have bollywood music playing in the background. If you live in Cambridge, or are just visiting then I would highly recommend Taj Tandoori.

Place is excellent. Visited here twice over the weekend while visiting Cambridge. Food and staff are both great. Great atmosphere with the Bollywood songs in the background. Will be back again on our next trip here.

Found this great place while visiting Cambridge. Arrived and was pleasantly greeted by the staff. Venue was very nice Food was fantastic, especially the mixed grill platter. The lamb was very soft and there was nice ghee mixed with garlic taste on top. The garlic naan was soft was full of flavour. Was all very reasonably priced. Will definitely come back on the next trip to Cambridge.

best indian i’ve ever had!! if you want the perfect meal - have two people share lamb samosas, the nargisi kebab, crispy kale chaat, onion bhajis, and the railway mutton curry with rice. Absolutely incredible. The owner is so funny and friendly, treats you like family!

We have been here a few times now with our group of friends. The food is really good here and some of their dishes are ones I haven’t seen in other restaurants. The restaurant is quite expensive once you have all the extras such as popadoms and dips. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Always visit the Taj when we want a curry with friends and as ever had a lovely meal. The chicken tikka burger was different to most burgers you could find elsewhere and delicious.

Came here for a friend's birthday meal. The food was amazing, the service was great and the manager was very attentive. They even threw in a surprise for my friend's birthday at the end. Totally recommend it.

Simply the best. The Taj continues to be levels above its competitors. I would even go as far as to say they probably don't have many these days, as they are just so far ahead. I've been eating at the Taj for over 10 years, just a few times a year, and on every visit, they have somehow levelled up; it amazes me that they can continue to improve, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's changed in my next visit. I enjoyed every second I was there, from the warm welcome to the friendly departure. Every mouthful was extraordinary. Great food, great atmosphere and great price.

We had an amazing meal this evening at Taj Tandoori. As soon as we arrived we were met by the team who took great care of us all evening. It was my husbands birthday and we were delighted when his desert came out with a sparkler and happy birthday being sung. The food is spectacular. So flavoursome and the portions are great. We had a variety of starters, mains and a desert and everything was presented beautifully and well enjoyed. We will definitely be coming back again!

We booked Sunday lunch for 16 to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were looked after extremely well and the food was excellent. The hash explosion starter was delicious and everyone enjoyed their Sunday roasts. The desserts were lovely too.

If you like Indian food, and Sunday lunch, and if you want great service and good value for money, then go to the Taj next Sunday. Just got back from a birthday lunch with friends and it was so good. They manage to mix the tradition of a British Sunday lunch with amazing Indian flavours. I really liked it. Don’t forget to take your own beer and wine.

This is my go to curry house when I visit Cambridge, lovely food and great atmosphere. I had the karahi Gosht which was outstanding. Forget your fancy places in the city centre, this is where it’s at.

Loved Taj Tandoori. Our server, Mo, was very friendly and enthusiastic, and made sure my friends (who had travelled from overseas) had a great time. Food was excellent, particularly the fish bhuna and the yoghurt chat. Will be back again!

I had an absolutely delicious meal at Taj Tandoori on a Sunday night recently. What may seem an unpretentious restaurant from the outside, Taj Tandoori is a warm, welcoming place that serves mouth watering pan Asian food. As a vegetarian, I particularly enjoyed the Mumbai Gobi Manchurian, crispy cauliflower florets cooked in a sauce of ginger, soy and fresh Indian spices. I can't wait to go back!

As well as a more traditional Indian evening menu, Taj Tandoori also do a Sunday roast with a lovely spicy twist every Sunday from 12-4. My husband and I recently went and really enjoyed the Sunday roast. We had the chicken and the lamb. I'm personally a massive fan of the tandoori chicken, it's really moist and flavourful, and my partner loved the lamb. We also had a lovely hash brown starter and a crumble for dessert. As someone who mostly doesn’t drink alcohol, I also appreciated the nice selection of mocktails and juices. I'd actually say this is now my favourite Sunday roast in Cambridge, and the staff looked after us really well. I'd very much recommend it if you fancy trying a British roast with an Indian twist.

Not our first visit, but probably our last for a while as their attempts to be creative seem a bit hit and miss. On the upside the staff were absolutely lovely and the premises are large and airy. We liked their creativity and their byo policy, which saves money and guarantees you can drink something you like. On the downside only half of our dishes really delivered and the award winning (allegedly) Mackerel Three Ways should win an award for being the most profitable dish ever created by a restaurant! We reckon it cost them about £3 and they charged us £19! 😬👎 It was very disappointing and we'd never have it again. As for everything else, the Shashlik and Naans were great, but cost top money, so they should be, right. Anyways, we fully indulged and we spent around £120 for four of us, which we felt was probably around £30 too much for what we had. If you like something different give them a go...if you like a good quantity of quality food, there are better restaurants nearby.

Spending the weekend in Cambridge decided to go for a curry night out. Found the restaurant easy enough and it wasn't overly busy but not quiet either. Was taken to a table. The main grip we had was waiting an hour for the food. As a married couple the conversation soon started to run dry. After a while a nice gentleman came over snd apologised for the wait. Eventually the food arrived. We couldn't fault it , very flavoursome and decent enough portions. Through the meal I noticed the chairs had seen better days and could do with a lick of paint as on some it had flaked off. The restaurant was clean though snd the staff very nice. The price was average with a service charge included. Overall our experience I would say was a 7 out of 10. Would I recommend? Probably not. It wasn't poor or great... just ok
