Carlos Bbq & Takeaway in Cambridge

Ordinarily don't leave reviews - but what a place. I ordered, and after 10 minutes the chef said he didn't see me - and was so open and honest about it - and offered to give me the food for free. Despite me stating happy to pay for honesty, he insisted. Been eating here for 19 years - a great touch.

Only thing better than their food is their hospitality

The lamb doner, you can’t miss the hot sauce, it’s very delicious, the best lamb doner I’ve ever had. Great with rice/fries. There's more salad and it's healthier when paired with fries. Serve with rice for a more filling meal and less with a salad. Dessert was Bakklava, a bit sweet for Chinese people, but acceptable. The skin is crispy and the inside is filled with green, which looks like mung bean paste (I guess). The boss also gave us 2 cups of Turkish black tea, which smelled like British and German black tea. It was a bit hot in the sun when I came in the afternoon and I was sweating while sitting, so I recommend coming later. But there are many people at night, so you may have to wait for a table.

They serve you what they want and charge what they want. The food is not very good, my falafels were hard. The only thing that stood out is that it is a family atmosphere and that is nice

Ordered a yogurtlu kebab, a kofte with some sauces on it. I was given a cold, clammy lamb doner with some sauce on it. The lad rudely tried to explain to me that this is how it traditionally is - even though I came here in the past, ordered the same thing and got served the correct dish - either this man doesn’t know anything about Turkish food, or he’s trying to scam his customers. He also went on to act confused when I asked for my fries, saying this dish doesn’t come with fries. Even though it says all kebabs come with fries.

I’ll be honest, this place is hella mid. The meat wasn’t flavourful, and the chips were cold. That being said, I’ve heard from others that the food has banged on previous occasions - but it wasn’t the case this time round. Worth giving them a try though! Their meat is all halal.

Alhamdulillah First time in Cambridge. The food was exceptional, we had the steak also the lamb done. After the meal we had turkish tea we complimentary baklava from the owner. Will recommend to come to this establishment. Many thanks to the team and may Allah grant you all barakah.

What can I say about Carlos. He’s a great guy and always makes you feel welcome either with a complimentary tea or with his infectious greeting. Food is always on point and seems to be always open. Fridays a bit crowded after jumah so get there early.

The service is very good, the portions are large, and the taste is beautiful. Two people can't finish the meal at a cost of 25. The rest is packed away. The boss also presented delicious chicken wings and pastries. I will come again next time.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy the lamb doner. I was doing deliveries from London so was in a hurry and stopped by to ask for a kebab wrap that's relatively quick to prepare. He recommended the doner which was at such a distance from the till that it was hard to tell if it looked good or bad. I then asked for a chicken donner and got back to me van. Opened the wrap and lo and behold it was a 'lamb' doner. (I must say, no complaints about the size it was big). Due to the good customer service and lack of free parking, I didn't bother going back inside the restaurant. The meat was like that ultra processed salami tasting not even fresh or hot type of doner; the salad and sauce was decent. In conclusion, he should've been honest and said the doner wasn't nice. I feel like if I was super drunk I might have still not enjoyed the meat. It was afternoon time and too early to be serving drunk peoples food

The one and only. A Cambridge institution that has been feeding the happy happy Mill Road masses for years. Carlos night is the highlight of our week.

Average food, not bad, not good

The costumer service was excellent and so it was the quality of the food. Honestly I would recommend this place to all of my friends if I could.

One of the best meals I have had. Cooked by a master with love. Everything was beautifully marinated and BBQd to perfection. Carlos is an incredible host, waitress was so kind and lovely, genuinely a great lunch and will back again no doubt about it!

Best lamb doner meat I've ever had (so far). Lively atmosphere as people come and go, eat and chat to Carlos. Decent prices for the quality, and has a more of a home kitchen vibe than a typical kebab shop. Carlos is an attentive and generous cook, but is a salesman, so make sure you are confident in your choice of meal unless you are willing to pay for something else/extra.

This seems to be a local favourite, and a meeting place for the local community. Service is very kind and helpful. The issue is the food, lack of taste, meat was tasting noting, rice looked old. We left with not the best feeling in our stomachs, and most probably will avoid in the future. Price is also quite high for the quality.

Original Turkish Doner The chicken doner is made from freshly chicken and not a frozen stuff. Amount of food is generous. Really enjoyed it.

Carlos is an absolute legend. He is generous with everyone, and also gives away a lot of food to places like homeless shelters etc. Carlos was my go-to takeaway supplier throughout the lockdowns. There's simply no better food-value for the money you spend here. I come here often for this huge lamb shank, turkish tea and baklava.

Love this place, Carlos is a local legend! A really friendly guy who always makes you feel welcome, food is good and 9 times out of 10 you'll get a complimentary cup of tea or coffee while you wait for your food, great atmosphere and multi cultural, people from all walks of life sitting and eating together, great conversations to be had!

Today after thinking about trying Carlos BBQ for such a long time I finally did and I'm so glad I went! We ordered the chicken shish, falafel and hummus and everything was cooked perfectly and super tasty. Carlos was so nice and friendly and gave us lots of extra food so we can also say that the lamb is really good too. We'll definitely be going back soon and want to try more things on the menu. Awesome delicious falafel wrap which tasted great and was well worth the price. I asked for additional halloumi to be added to my wrap. Also enjoyed the Turkish tea and coffee. The chef/owner is kind, warm and very accommodating to all patrons visiting his establishment. Definitely worth a visit

I wish I had an option to leave 6 stars because this little restaurant is nothing short of amazing. We came in with a family of 5 (2 kids + grandma). We have ordered 5 doner kebabs. The owner is such an amazing guy. In addition to the food we have ordered, he gave us free chips and tea. Then, when we tried to pay for the 5 doner kebabs, he even rounded down the bill. At that point, my wife and I knew: this is an old school owner who is not money-driven, but rather loves his job and enjoys interacting with his customers (he even showed us how he makes his amazing tee). Let me put it this way: I have never left a review before (my sons had to help me navigate through), but I had to do it this time because I had to show my support for Carlos BBQ and his owner. Wonderful experience!!!

Absolutely amazing service and food here. Got to meet the famous Carlos too who loaded me up with this dish that was spectacular. It has brocolli, pasta, rice, grilled wings and this sauce that had a slight kick to it. He offered it with a yoghurt sauce. Ask for his recommendation on the day when you visit. He'll hook you up.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the UK, Turkish food is unbeatable in general, but Carlos BBQ is different. He makes the Döner from fresh lean meat his soup is so original it’s just one of the tastiest restaurants. And on top of that the good Customer service from Carlos, Masha’Allah he’s really good 👍🏼

Deliveries are awful. The food always arrives with something missing and they muck up the order everytime. This time my lamb Shesh came without tzatziki, hot sauce, salad and cabbage, so basically I got rice and lamb. Also ordered a coke and received a Fanta instead, rang the place to ask about it and the lady said she didn’t speak English! Not a great experience, I love going in because the owner is amazing, but the deliveries are just awful. Very disappointed

A delightful experience, a halal Turkish restaurant in the corner of Cambridge city

I ordered takeaway from this restaurant and paid for lamb shank with rice and mixed chicken shish with lamb doner kebab. Unfortunately, I was totally disappointed with the meal. While the lamb shank was okay, the chicken shish was very bland and didn't come with any sauce, which was a letdown. To make matters worse, when I called the restaurant to report the missing lamb doner kebab, the woman on the other end of the line wasn't very helpful. She simply told me to come back to the restaurant to collect the missing item, which was inconvenient as we live quite far away and had already walked to the restaurant. I even asked for a refund of the difference in price, but they refused to do so. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal and good customer service.

This place is legend! Carlos is the nicest guy and friendly person you will meet. This was one of me and my friend favorite place in Cambridge for breakfast or dinner. My fav is Omelette, green salads, kebabs and not to miss a glass of Turkish tea is so refreshing.

We went from Bedford and were looking for halal food. All restaurants around were pricey and overrated. We are glad we found this. The owner is a humble Turkish guy who offered my daughter free sweets too. Food was amazing.

Carlos is undisputed King of Hospitality Didn’t know what to order even though I’ve been there 100 times before… This time I was with my Mom who doesn’t know the cuisine . Carlos as always suggested that we eat what he recommends . Best decision ever… Falafel , chicken , kofte plus two different hummous. Extra big plate of salad and fries pretty much unlimited . Since 2004 I can’t get enough…

The owner of the restaurant is forcing you to order certain things and makes you pay triple the prices in the announced menu. I had soup, beef shwarma and piece of chicken with some rice and it is for 20£. I even didn’t ask for that I told him I want shesh and he forced me to get what I described. Morover, the food tasted very bad. This is my first and last time ever. Not recommend it at all. I wish I can give this restaurant a negative stars. He think he wins the money but he lost a customer and his reputation. Take care guys, the announced menu has fake prices.

Tried their self-made lamb donner. Tasted great, fresh and juicy. Not rubbery like other places that buy their donner pre-made.

We popped in here on the way to the fireworks for food.. We had chicken burger and chips, and I had a cuppa tea. The food was delicious, particularly the chips. The tea was just how I like it, builders tea. Will definitely be coming back for another visit! Highly recommend.

I'm turkish myself and visited Cambridge from London and was really hungry until i found this amazing place to eat so as soon as i entered it had a great surrounding and delicious food 👌👌. Softest lamb shank on earth at #CarlosBarbacue on #MillRoad #Cambridge Literally melts off the bone. Tastes divine. Stunningly melt in your mouth mulaaim. Served on a bed of perfectly cooked burghuri, and a crunchy salad on the side. I asked for extra donor meat and forgot to take pictures of the out of this world perfect #hummus and the extra chilli garlic sauce and chilli sauce. Usually I would down it with a bottle of chilled Uludag ice cream soda. Had to make do w coke zero. Didn't touch the insanely delicious baklava and desserts. Such a good girl in am. But here it is. If your in Cambridge do not miss out on Carlos's Barbecue on Mill Road. Everything from the chops, the shank, to the tawuks, in lamb or chicken, the donors, burghuri, hummus... It is a simple kebab shop with a few chairs and tables. The atmosphere is alright for a kebab shop. The food is great and this is one of the main reasons to visit this place. The service is very good and the owner always polite. I prefer to dine in as the food tastes best when served straight from the grill.

Not a typical Kabab shop! Carlos is a very nice guy. He is super friendly and offers great hospitality with exceptional customer service mind! Everyone loves him. I enjoyed my mixed kabab and salad on rice with extra chilli sauce 🌶. The portion size was generous and the dishes tasted really good. 👍🏼 He offered a traditional Turkish tea for me (on the house) which was a nice touch!!! Thanks Carlos!!!! Update: Last weekend, I visit Carlos BBQ again for the 3rd time and tried his special menus- slow cooked lamb shank. It was super delicious!!!!

Great find during our stay in Cambridge! Carlos is friendly and cooks the food and brings it out! My son and I were thrilled to talk about o him! Carlos said he started his business when he was 19 over 30 years ago! He never goes on holiday but his wife is going to make him go soon for their anniversary! The kebab was delicious, falafel wrap was delicious, the baklava so tasty, and rice pudding was divine! If I’m ever in Cambridge again we will stop in!
