Really lovely afternoon tea with my friend (my birthday present from her). Really lovely afternoon tea selection. Different from the usual. The only negative is the service charge they add on. This should be a choice the customer makes based on the level of service provided.

The worst experience in Cambridge ever! We were treated like a thief, I went to the toilet while my partner was waiting for me at the table and he got asked by the waiter to order because he looked suspicious (?!?!) when I came back.. he made a joke asking me to order for him not since he can’t without me!! So rude and disrespectful, also the glasses were dirty! Something that you would not expect from this posh place! We left straight away, I work in hospitality myself and this is unacceptable!!! PS just to be clear he was not playful and he didn’t want to make sure that we would have been serve fast,he was really serious and rude! When I said that to the receptionist she was not surprised so it made me understand that he did this type of things other times!!!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, beautiful décor, and comfortable chairs and tables. It gives the impression of being a place for great food and a refined dining experience — but unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to that image. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the duck curry dish, and it was completely bland, lacking both salt and flavor. Overall, the prices are extremely high for what’s offered. The only thing that was somewhat enjoyable was the dessert — it was okay, not amazing, but about what I expected. In summary: if you’re looking for good food, this is not the place I would recommend. It’s overpriced and doesn’t deliver on its promise.

The food was good, had the vegetarian breakfast and I have no complaints, also their latte was very good too. The atmosphere was quite pleasant however it was the service that let them down. To start with the lady at the entrance couldn’t find our 10 am reservation because she kept looking in the pm section, a simple mistake I know, secondly when ordering food and drinks, my partner asked if they could do sugar free syrup in her ice latte and the waiter laughed at her and rather rudely said that they don’t do that here. Next our drinks were delivered to the wrong table, again a simple mistake, but when these things keep happening it adds up. Finally, shortly after we had finished eating and plates had been removed (I think we had been in the restaurant for about 40/45 minutes total at this point) a waiter came over to check on us and when we said we where alright he hung about and then asked if we would like the check. Definitely made us feel like we were being rushed out. As pleasant as the food was, for £50 I would hope for better service but definitely would expect politeness and not to be laughed at by the staff for a simple question

Having had a fabulous evening here a month or so ago I took my son for a treat after a lovely long day visiting galleries and museums. What a different experience. I booked well in advance, we were plonked on a table, the different menu options not explained, asked repeatedly if we were ready to order drinks when we said we wanted to decide our food choices first, through the meal we were ‘served’ (there was no service only insistent questioning and swift clearance) by no less, and possibly more than four people. On arrival we had asked the reception ‘concierge’ to book a taxi (1 hour and 40 mins notice). On leaving she had not told her colleague, both seemed clueless, the taxi company was clueless. The person repeatedly blamed the taxi company saying both companies they use are unreliable. The manager became involved, offered us to go back in and have a dessert on the house, without even checking that we had just eaten a full 3 course meal with drinks?!! In the end we waited almost half an hour, had to repeatedly ask for updates, missed our train and arrived home a full hour later after 10pm They do say never go back after an excellent experience. Sadly I wish I had heeded this warning. And I don’t appreciate staff who blame others for their own mess ups whilst shrugging as though it’s my problem not theirs.

Food was good no complaints but the service was awful. The guy kept coming in and asking me if i was done with my food. When he came the second time i just gave up and asked him to take my plates even though i wasn’t finished eating. I shouldn’t be rushed to have my food especially when i am paying quite a good price for the food. It felt as if they just wanted us to leave even when there was no waiting outside and had plenty empty tables in.

Nice Restaurant The restaurant was much bigger than I expected. Very fancy inside. The fish and chips tasted nice, in generous portions. A genuinely big fish fillet inside the batter. The shepherd's pie was surprisingly small. It was quite salty therefore I didn't use the provided gravy. You need to order a starter or dessert or both in case you insist to order their shepherd's pie. The staff were nice and attentive. Clean and tidy environment. I will return to try other items on the menu.

I had dinner here a week ago today, a Saturday night, we had a Christmas gift voucher to spend. And thankfully we didn’t pay for this dinner. I ordered the duck salad to start. The flavours were nice but the duck was extremely dry. I then had the sirloin steak with prepper corn sauce, creamed spinach and Parmesan and truffle chips. The steak itself was okay didn’t taste great, however the peppercorn sauce was disgusting it literally tasted of fish. The creamed spinach had some breadcrumbs on top and wasn’t baked for long enough as everything was still raw tasting. My chips were good! Thankfully I didn’t pay anything towards this meal and the remaking balance my partner paid. However it was so disappointing to say the least.

As a regular diner in The Ivy, I appreciate the reliability of the food. I typically eat at The Ivy 10-20 times a year and although the food was good, the visit overall fell slightly below expectations. Our party had the 1917 set menu which was good value for money - the quality of the food was excellent. However, the service was a bit lacking - our main courses were slow to arrive, as was the bill when requested, even when we flagged there was a train to catch. It was a meal celebrating a guest’s birthday which we mentioned at the start, and there was no acknowledgment of this. We had to ask for water to be refilled and cutlery was given to the wrong person/they forgot who had ordered what at times. Overall, I would recommend the set menu, but compared to other branches of The Ivy the service was lacking. The front of house staff on entrance were friendly, but inside the restaurant, the service didn’t quite match this. More attentive service would have made this a 5* visit. Still giving 4* because of the food and I appreciate it was half term and so the restaurant was busy.

We came for afternoon tea for my daughter & daughter in laws birthdays. Whilst the afternoon tea was ok it was not as good as last year’s experience/food. One of the afternoon teas was dairy free, the scones were a third of the size of the normal ones and came with coconut yoghurt (why not vegan cream?), she had two choc brownies which were very nice, a second small dish of coconut yogurt with coconut flakes and a dish of mixed berries - most of which were still frozen; and this was £2 more than the cost of a normal afternoon but didn’t look as good. They were both given a ‘celebration’ treat for their birthdays which wa nice but one had a giant round eclair with strawberries, the other was given another dish of frozen fruit with a candle in it - a chocolate brownie would have been more appropriate. When I made the booking, about three weeks prior to our visit today, they said they catered for dairy free dietary needs but whilst there today I felt my daughter in-law had the short straw. Such a shame as we have previously had great experiences here but I’m reluctant to go back.

Hi I attended you Ivy Cambridge with my partner on Friday 31st January 2025…. Firstly the food and staff were excellent, however the access wasn’t….. I am a wheelchair user and cannot walk at all, upon attending the restaurant my partner walked up two steps to let you know i had arrived as i was told there was a side access…. However i had to push I over 200m over cobbles , watching the floor to make sure my wheelchair didn’t hit any divots and then around the back , past the rubbish and through the trades entrance …. This is disgraceful in 2025 , a simple 2 m folding suitcase ramp that is easily moved and very lightweight could have prevented all this and i could have just pushed up the ramp and into your restaurant….. however i felt embarrassed and like a second class citizen…. This really needs to be addressed … the ramps are no more than £100…..

Unfortunately we expected better food and service for the price and atmosphere. Coming in to see art work and servers in suits made me believe we were in for a treat. I ordered an 8oz sirloin medium well and got it well done. When I flagged down the waiter and asked him for a refire he held up the plate in the light and examined it for a minute then set it back down and said he sees pink so it’s what I asked for. I laughed because I thought it was a joke and asked him where he sees pink and he just pointed at my well done steak and said in the middle. I gave it a low review because you come for the service, food and atmosphere but if the food isn’t what you ask for, and the service is completely unacceptable then the atmosphere seems overdone. He came back after I ate half my overcooked steak and asked if it’s okay and I told him it’s definitely well done but I’m already eating it. He said he can redo it but by then I was done dealing with his service. I took a picture because it was so confusing.

Service: Fast, attentive service. Waiters are switched on, observant and really know their job. Drink, food orders and other requests are immediately handled. Attentive and not pushy. They’re smartly turned out and polite. I’d even say, quite slick in their service. Food: Excellent menu, sophisticated and well blended layers of flavour, texture and presentation well executed with care any attention. Some dishes have an element of theatre in their presentation. Steaks are well cooked. Cuts are pretty good. Sirloin excellent. Rib eye on the bone not worth the extra (go with the sirloin) due to fat content. Taste is bang on par. Coffee and Stilton are also par excellence. Atmosphere: 1930’s art deco / almost dada colourful style. Good linen. Good silverware and crockery in keeping with the whole experience. Candle lit tables by evening and the lights lower by the hour. The atmosphere is relaxed yet somewhat formal. Easy to have a good time. Summary: class but not pretentious. Not Michelin star - but not as common and bland as your normal chain, even the nicer ones. Great food. Great complimentary service. Restrooms have the scent of amber. Service charge is steep - and automatically added to your bill. Recommended, for a treat as it is expensive for what you are getting (dinner). Particularly recommended if you like your food and wish to be treated extremely well in surroundings that deliver on what you’d say “is a seriously nice place”.

I recently visited The Ivy in Cambridge with my family, hoping for a great dining experience, and while the service and atmosphere were impressive, the food left much to be desired. First, the positives: the service was excellent. Our waitress was not only professional and polite but also took the time to explain the menu in detail. The restaurant itself had a lovely, stylish atmosphere, and the bathroom facilities were also spotless, which was a nice touch. However, the food was a major disappointment. Despite being hungry, none of us could enjoy our meals, which I found concerning—when you're hungry, it's hard to not enjoy something. The dishes seemed like they had been frozen and reheated, lacking the freshness and flavor you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. My family members echoed similar sentiments. For me, food is the core of any dining experience, so unfortunately, the poor quality of the food really impacted my overall enjoyment. I’d rate The Ivy 2/5 stars—it’s a beautiful setting with great service, but when the food falls short, it’s hard to overlook.

Horrible experience. The restaurant completely messed up our steak orders: both served as “no blood,” even though I ordered medium and my friend ordered medium with no blood. When we politely raised the issue, the manager not only refused to acknowledge their mistake but also insisted we pay for the server’s fault. To make matters worse, he told my female friend to keep quiet and only allowed me to speak, which was deeply disrespectful. Despite having surveillance cameras, he refused to review the footage that would have shown our calm demeanor and their mistake. No apology, just blame on us and forced payment for their fault. Terrible service and unacceptable attitude. I’ll never come to this place again.

MORE AT Google

I have never left a negative review before, but I must say this was the worst service experience I’ve ever had. The restaurant failed to resolve a very simple issue: they got steak’s doneness wrong, yet insisted on charging us for both steaks and claimed that we had ordered incorrectly. To be honest, I can totally understand if it was miscommunication, and we don’t even mind if we are told in advance that changing the steak would mean extras. However, we are pretty sure that we ordered with clear requirements, and the fault was not from our side: I ordered a medium with no blood and my friend ordered a normal medium, but we got two with no blood. When dealing with bills, the manager’s attitude was unacceptable. He told my female friend to “keep silence”, explicitly saying that only my male friend who met the specific situation could talk to him. He also said to us, “That’s it, pay the bill, I have other customers,” as if we weren’t customers deserving of proper responsibility and respect. In the follow-up communication, the team even shifted the blame onto us, saying our attitude was poor. If there were surveillance cameras in the restaurant, it would clearly show that we remained polite both when speaking with the server and while discussing the bill issue. Our voice was not higher than manager’s. We didn’t receive any apologies about this attitude, and they still believe they can treat customers like that. Paying money only to endure such treatment is truly disappointing, and I’ll be avoiding this place in the future.

Was great when it first opened - not so much now. Went to lunch 29 Dec and one of the two starters was cold and same thing happened with the mains. The manager offered to ‘take off the service charge’. Very funny. You don't have to pay the service charge anyway. Won't be returning as the place has obviously prioritised profits over experience. Shame.

I'm still reeling at the fact I've just paid £120 for two steaks, one cocktail and two soft drinks! Whilst I can say the steak was 'good' - both sirloins were tidy cuts, and cooked accurately to rare and medium on request, it simply can't justify the astronomical price! Combine it with the most mediocre and lacklustre service (got our starter order wrong, didn't know the drinks order so asked us to point in the menu and couldn't advise on ingredients of the sauce) I feel well and truly ripped off with this instagram-lovers paradise! Style over substance and charged for the privilege!

Food was okay, nothing remarkable. Server tried hard but didn't understand what we were asking for when we asked for a blackcurrant juice and a soda water. Instead we just got a lime and soda. Later we got the kid's dinners before we had starters.

Update 27/12/24 Fabulous as ever but don't forget to book! They still have my palm lamps, but one day..... As with all Ivy's, there is nothing to disappoint. I wish I could buy those two palm lamps in the window, but alas 🤭

No parking nearby. Not easily disable access. Service was lacking from our waiter, but other service staff were better. Good food, quality ingredients, well cooked and enough choice.

Christmas Eve — the drinks were watered down, the server was crabby, and the wild mushroom pasta was watery and bad. It felt festive but the actual experience at the table was not enjoyable

Visited with my family for Christmas Eve as the decor is beautiful and always a good atmosphere in other Ivys we have ate at. We fine dine often so happy to pay for good food however it’s more ‘pub grub’ Was left feeling disappointed. I chose to pay the subtotal without this optional service charge as I like to choose and decide on ‘tips’, I was immediately asked why I wasn’t paying this which I find uncomfortable and quite rude. The lady then went to the tills opposite and whispered to her colleagues in front of us whilst they turned to look at our table. The attitude then simply changed and we felt awkward. Never again would I wish to visit here.

The restaurant is stunning very clean with a great atmosphere. However the food is really not even average at best. The Ivy burger is literally an overdone burger patty in a bun with one piece of lettuce for £19. £30 for steak with no sides £5 for sauce and £7 for what are basically oven chips? The staff are friendly until you ask to remove the £18 optional service charge then they become very rude. The ivy is trying to be a fine dining restaurant with pub food.

It was okay. Food was lovely Decor too however it was quiet we ask to sit away from everyone due to anxiety and the restaurant was very quiet and then 2 men were plonked right next to us talking super loud too. It ruined the breakfast and when I spoke to the girl about it at the end she didn't care. Had to wait a while to pay too.

Eating English doesn't get much better than this. The Ivy offers everything from breakfast to teatime to dinner. Even if it is said here that it is a bit too expensive...I would say that the price is right. Today I had the classic fish and chips and for dessert a Christmas pudding flambéed with Calvados...both very good. Then eat in this kitschy, beautiful atmosphere. I can only recommend the Ivy Cambridge

We booked the Ivy for a birthday celebration afternoon tea. One of us had a gluten free afternoon tea which we pre-ordered so the restaurant was aware. The scones were good but the three other desserts (as shown in the photo) were a bowl of berries- 75% of these were still frozen and you therefore couldn't eat them , and what can only be described as a small bowl of natural yoghurt with coconut flakes on top and a brownie. The service was poor. We had to ask twice for sugar for tea. We requested some extra jam- this never arrived. No-one checked if we were okay or asked if we wanted more drinks. We decided to have a cocktails- it took a few minutes to attract the attention of a server, who asked us what we wanted so we asked to see a menu, which was brought, then she didn't return to take our order so we had to attract the attention of someone else! When they brought our cocktails we had to ask them to clear our empty dishes that has been sat around us for 15 minutes. Two of us had a left over cake which we asked to take home. This just came in the bottom of a large bag which they then charged us for! When we enquired why it wasn't in a box but rolling about in a bag the server told us they had not ordered enough boxes. Overall, the service just wasn't there which for a restaurant, that apparently is meant to be amazing, was disappointing.

Went for breakfast. Full English could do with a bit of work… one Richmond sausage and one piece of bacon (with mushrooms, tomato, friend eggs and toast). Thankfully we had a beautiful view of Kings College for the price we paid! The Turkish breakfast bap was tasty but I have to admit I did miss not having any butter on the bap. Maybe a British thing… Great coffee, saved the breakfast!

The food was either great or so so. My husband loved the venison meatballs but my sirloin was thin and dry and not worth the $. We had the Fondue to share as a starter and it was very small - easily could have been a starter for one person! It also needed some apples and carrots to dip in the cheese. I also would have preferred if the sourdough bread wasn’t cut so thin and toasted - give big chunks of bread on slices. No forks were given, it was big slices of bread so you had to re-dip after each bite - not a big deal for my husband and I but would be a bit awkward to do with a friend or date. I would recommend the restaurant adjust the way it is served and go more traditional with chunks of bread and apple and baby carrots and provide fondue forks, and give more cheese if they want to keep it for sharing, otherwise make it for one person. Also important to note It isn’t a traditional fondue, it is made with cheddar and some cheese I had never heard of but it is delicious! The kid’s Mac and cheese was tasty but my daughter wouldn’t eat it because it had breadcrumbs on it and flakes of green stuff, which is my fault for not asking about that (the constant picky kid battle continues *sigh*). The other people in our group liked their food overall, no rave reviews but no complaints. The service was awesome. Our server Balil (I hope I am spelling that right) was so sweet. He went above and beyond!! Even brought the kids at the tables pillows when one fell asleep (it had been a long day). He was very accommodating and attentive. The restaurant is lucky to have him! The restaurant itself was a nice space, high ceilings, lots of art on the walls stain glass windows. Quiet as well. No blaring music or anything so you can have a conversation easily at a large table of 9 people. The bathrooms are huge and clean but the water that comes out of the tapes is scalding hot, even out of the cold tap - I tried 3 different sinks but was unable to get water at a temperature that wasn’t boiling hot. A quirky little thing- they were playing Toad and Frog audio books in the bathroom which was fun. All in all it was a nice meal. Very pricey but standard for the city where everywhere is expensive.
