We have just had a fantastic meal at Taj Mahal in Oban. We always come here whenever we are in Oban and tonight's meal was as good as ever. A nice welcome on arrival. Food delivered promptly. Great service. Waiter checked that we were happy with the meal. We had poppadoms and accompaniments which were delicious. Our mains were chicken Danasak and chicken balti (hot); both very tasty with very fresh, tender chicken. The naan was lovely too. Can't fault this place. Will definitely come again.

The food was not that great but really missed the hospitality and kindness that India is famous for and came here looking for that. Hope they improve upon interacting with customers The manager wasn't much interested and the staff also just wanted direct answers.

Unfortunate to read the bad reviews about anti-Indian discrimination after my visit. As I’m white I didn’t experience that; the food was not the best I’ve ever had but it was certainly decent and worth the money! I left very filled and enjoyed the kind service I received. Go in expecting a passable meal and you’ll find yourself pleased and happy.

Tasty good sized portions. Had the lamb banana kashmir and veggie dopiaza. Service friendly and nice atmosphere, even when it was a Sunday.

As soon as we entered the hotel at 9.30 , some bald guy acting as a manger was behaving rudely that only takeaway is available. My kind request if you cant serve people late night , so please change your restaurant timings and please learn to behave first with the customers . No hospittality at all. Shame

Absolutely the WORST experience in the entire UK. Been to so many eateries of different cuisines, including many Indian restaurants, but none as horrible as this one. The bald manager/waiter had no intention of hospitality and behaved awfully. Very mean choice of words. So we walked out without even having our meal. One would rather like to starve than adjust for his demeaning words.

The service at Taj Mahal in Oban was terrible, with an extremely rude waiter. The chicken tikka was stale and barely edible. The naan was okay, but it didn’t make up for the rest of the awful experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

Never been to such a horrible restaurant, let me explain 1. I walked in the restaurant to have my dinner the waiter shows me hand and asks me what do you want here ( I assumed he would greet me) 2. The chicken which i ordered was not fresh, I didn’t even ate the full dish. 3.Waiter has a lot of attitude, i asked him please advise me some special dishes of your restaurant 2 times, than he responded the first time as ( Everything is in the menu please read), second time when asked the same he just reads the menu for me.

Very good address in Oban, not easy to find but the restaurant is worth the detour.

We arrived in a group late... sure, but the boss was not obliged to accept... No smile, no grace, no women either... this clan of men was unpleasant to the highest degree... a bottom of racism surely finally...we can ask ourselves the question...not bad food but served in a hostile context...hello digestion!!! Good Indian, happy to split an adult main between kids and food was excellent. Decor is fairly standard but nothing to complain about.

The chicken chilli garlic is so delicious try it the next time you're here the best takeaway in town in my opinion never had a bad meal from here everything is consistent and and always hot so when you get take out by the time you get home you can enjoy your delightful meal without having to ruin it by heating up in the microwave . Worst indian food i have ever tried, its not even authentic and the men who is working there are rude and inpatient. He literally took the cutlery off the table so that they do not clean anything. And he asked me to spell my bottel of cola into tho cup so he can take it away because he thinks i can drink it fast and put it in the cup,rudest person ive ever met and the food is gross.

The food was amazing, we came two nights in a row. I especially enjoyed their peshwari naan. Will definitely come back next time we're in Oban and would recommend to anyone visiting the area as well.

I have been to the Taj Mahal a number of times over the past couple of summers working in Oban, and it is one of my favourite Indian Restaurants I have been anywhere. The food is delicious and plentiful and the staff are polite and helpful. Would highly recommend!

Our dining experience at Taj Mahal was fantastic. We tried a variety of vegetarian dishes, including Bali and stuffed paratha naan. Each dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully prepared. The staff were exceptionally nice and welcoming, accommodating our custom requests for child with ease.

We had dinner at Taj Mahal and it was awesome. The vegetarian dishes were delicious, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Amazing tikka, great great service

We had a very nice diner tonight, friendly staff.

What a huge disapointment. The butter chicken curry we ordered was tasteless. The naan and rice bland. They should be ashamed of themselves to call this Indian food. Just a waste off money. The reason I ate it all because I paid too much money for it and I was really hungry.

Came here for an early dinner based on a few positive reviews saying how vegan friendly this place is. After an excellent meal I can confirm it is. The very friendly (Manager?Owner?) assisted us and showed most of the veggie dishes were fine for us. The food was delicious and the service was excellent throughout. An absolutely horrible place. My wife, son, and I entered this restaurant at around 9, where we encountered a rude bald man, who we presumed to be the manager. Before even bothering to offer us a table, he told us “not to expect any food with pure Indian flavour” which immediately made us doubt the cuisine authenticity. Then he proceeded to state that he did not “want any complaints or bad reviews from people like us”. That was what triggered us to leave the restaurant in search of a place with an adequate, if not friendly, attitude towards their customers. Just because we were Indians did not mean we expected to eat our regular spicy food. But we don’t tolerate this attitude at all, and don’t advise anyone to visit this pathetic place.

Great place to eat. Very busy place but they had a table for us. Why would you go somewhere else? (my wife would - he doesn't eat curries? )

Curries totally ruined with coconut. I bet this isn’t how the owner eat them but it’s done for people who don’t like curries. If you don’t like curry you might like these. Loss the coconut especially in a vindaloo or madras. I love a curry but can’t go back to this place ever again. We had 4 different curries nobody finished any and all were disliked.

Had the best experience here last week. Great food, beautiful restaurant, and above all, good and FRIENDLY service. The owner came out and we had a pleasant chat with him. The tandoori roti was huge and soooo good. If I didn't live 4000 miles away I'd come back all the time.

Note to Indian or Indians by origin: Please do not attempt to go to this place. There is a strong visible bias not to entertain Indians or Indians by origin. The manager or the person taking the food orders made it very clear that this is not food that Indians are used to. In fact asked how long have we been in UK. Not sure what the intent was. We did not know that this place has a strict policy of a minimum food value (about £14/person). When we started ordering two items, the manager promptly cut us in middle of the conversation and said please read the last page to see the terms and conditions. It’s on the bottom right corner on the last page of the menu. If they are so particular about it, they should print it on top of the menu on the cover. Why keep it at the back when you are so strict and particular about it. We said that we will order later based on how we feel after having the first couple of dishes. We were not hungry to have food ordered extra and then thrown away. But we were told that we need to order everything in one single order only. The whole attitude was so unfriendly and unhospitable that it wasn’t worth staying. We had to walk out since we don’t believe in wasting food. The restaurant needs to look at their etiquettes and soft skills. No wonder the reviews are not great either.

The food was fabulous. I'm an Indian food expert, and the flavors were excellent. The butter chicken was exceptional. We came to this place on an evening where all the restaurants were full and got turned away from a half dozen other places and the wonderful people here opened up space and we had a fabulous dinner. Bravo. Much recommend these guys.

We arrived for dinner at 9:30 PM and ordered two starters and two entrees. After we finished our starters, we were asked if we were ready for the main course at 10:20 pm. Main course arrived at 10:30 pm, and within 5 minutes a different server interrupted us to state that the restaurant closed at 11. Food was great, although I received chicken instead of duck for my tikki Masalla. I wouldn't recommend this place after 9:30 pm as the service quickly becomes rude

Very disappointing. Owner was very abrupt, and food was not nice (lacking any flavour, and it had an odd texture). Worst coconut rice we have ever had, and garlic naan was dry and no garlic flavour. Wish we had stayed home and had a sandwich instead.

To be honest I don't understand the bad reviews at all. We went there yesterday and the food was super tasty and the service was perfect!!

Spent 2 nights in Oban, arriving late into the evening on Day 1. This was just down the lane from our accommodations and thankfully open. We had an amazing meal, great drinks, excellent service. We had dinner there again after the Staffa Island Tours day. The meal had been so amazing that we wanted more and they did not disappoint!

Food which we got does'nt even smell like Indian, so Bland, tomatos and onions in the curry was cut into halves and not even boiled, and chicken biriyani is just the pilau rice with turmeric and salt, and they are using Tesco's pita bread as i saw the man in the till opening the tesco product and giving inside the kitchen not freshly made at all,i would not recommend anyone else for this hotel, absolute waste of money, pls dont spoil the name of the Indian food by giving these cheap product and cheap taste

Very nice restaurant located just outside the town centre near the cinema. Staff are attentive and helpful. Ordered a starter and a main. The portion sizes are very good for the price which is on the lower end for the area. For the starter I chose the vegetable samosa which came with a small salad and a lightly spiced dip which were both flavourful and thoroughly enjoyed. For the main I opted for the chicken korai with pilau rice and naan as sides. Each came in its own dish along with a warm plate to dish onto (All dishes/plates for the mains are warm/hot to the touch). Again plenty of flavour in every part of the main. I would highly recommend this restaurant of you are staying in Oban. It is also just along from a large carpark (about 100m) and a number of B&B accommodations.

Worst service ever… Tried first time Duck curry which came uncooked and onions in all curries were uncooked. Waiter service was worst when we came in he is not so welcoming and did not wish us and so proud behaviour taking order. Worst paying to this restaurant. We came from Edinburgh for visiting castle and tried eating some Indian food but worst service and worst food ever.

The worst restaurant I have ever experienced Firstly when I came in the staff was in a confused mindset weather to take or not to take us that was the most disgusting and more over when we got in and ordered the food it wasn’t even Indian flavour we ordered a lot stuff but only was saag paneer was good but rest of the stuff was not even cooked properly and then the story began the staff started explaining how it is not cooked so silly I being an Indian suggest not to go in please please not to visit it

My second time eating here. The first was about a year ago. We had an excellent meal each time. The menu is quite varied and both vegetarians and carnivores will find interesting dishes. We were the only ones in the restaurant this last time and, of course, the service was exceptional - it felt like they were cooking just for us but actually they were doing quite a lot of take-away business. Both times I have been there the proprietor was extremely attentive and gave us excellent suggestions. I'll be back!

Absolute worst experience in a restaurant i have ever had. The staff was extremely rude, felt a lot of racism towards Indians, inspite of being an Indian restaurant. Will not recommend anyone to go there

Quite disappointing to see restaurant staff be openly impolite and refuse to serve customers without reason.

Honestly, even 1 star is a lot. Refusing service to people based on their origin is extremely rude. We went there twice and were very immediately lied to and refused service as the restaurant was "fully booked" and was going to close soon. But we could see that it was open for a really long time and tables were empty. The second time they insisted on paying minimum 15 pounds per person. I mean, why do they even have a restaurant?

Worst place I have ever seen. They were lying about having reservations and rejected service even though they were empty. When we visited the place they lied about minimum order being 15 pounds which wasn’t for anybody else. They do not even deserve 1 star.

They gave duck in place of mutton on Christmas eve. Not so testy. Starter is ok.

The food was very good - negative trip advisor reviews almost put us off. All sauces were home made and fresh, side dishes flavourful and fresh. On this Thursday night the restaurant was not very busy, and due to a very cold night they put on an extra heater. Our waiter was attentive and professional. Overall a good meal out.

Food was tasty, but oily. Gluten free options were limited. Hair on naan bread. Ordered a Cobra, got a Cola. 🤷‍♂️

Food quality here is rather low. The butter chicken is disappointingly sweet, and it’s texture is odd given that it has coconut shreds in it. Same issue with tikka masala. Overall would not recommend The lentil soup was good however.

The curry and the biryani was a disgrace to be called Indian even if the restaurant is a Bangladeshi one. Please try to serve something authentic. Very good food and nice people. I forgot my mobile there and they brought it back.

It started with a weird vibe with the welcoming and order by one of the crew members. Then everything came smoothly, we took lite dinner at late time. Served quickly and it was very tasty. We finished everything in half an hour (When checked by the crew during our dinner, they seemed satisfied that we were eating everything) and no issue at all overnight as mentioned by others. We took the kashmir chicken and kashmir vegetables and it was really good, not dry, really sweet and with taste. Prices are correct.

Hmm. Independent of other reviews I would rate this a 3.5. I just don't think there was much spice to my dish and it was rather oily. I was expecting medium heat as indicated-and it had the same heat as bread and butter. The lamb tasted very good. Naan had the consistency of pizza dough. The waiter was attentive and service was fast.

Here's what I ordered last night: Chicken Biryani Spiced Poppadom Chuntey (chutney?) Chicken Chaat The biryani had cucumber. If you are having authentic food from the subcontinent you shouldn't have cucumber. No. Never. Poppadoms were plain. The chutney was not chutney. It resembles a jar of chillies aesthetically and smelt like tomato oil. I didn't even bother tasting it. Chicken Chaat? Lol. Nowhere near Chaat. It was a weird curry that had little to no flavour or spice. I ordered from here as well as another location to mix dishes and regretted both. We stopped eating both sets of food at the same time to save our stomachs from any future damage. My body thanks me today for that decision.

Pleasant restaurant with good food. Service is variable, judging by other reviews. Staff take orders and bring the food but don't seem interested in the customer's experience. When I thanked them on leaving the restaurant, the two waiters at the front desk carried on talking and ignored me completely. No 'hope you enjoyed your meal and hope to see you again' - possibly a consequence of a restaurant that is patronised by holiday makers just passing through Oban.

Delivery last night. Chicken pakora was a disgrace., nan bread cold and soggy pompadour.

Always get a nice meal here, the food is always prepared fresh and you can ask them to make a dish hotter or milder than described on the menu. The staff are very friendly, and the prices are reasonable.
