Taj Mahal Amble in Northumberland

Sunday lunch with a difference for sure, a range of Indian style tapas, 4 different mini dishes, 2 onion bargis, rice and a chapati, absolutely delicious and very reasonable, around what you pay for a traditional Sunday lunch , service is 12 until 3 , I would recommend this restaurant.

Booked for a Friday night. Had starter, mains and sides. All dishes were excellent and flavours were amazing. We were served by Yasin who was really helpful. One of the party had food allergies and the staff were accommodating and attentive to ensure all the food selected was okay. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

We asked the Taj Mahal to cater for an event at Coquet Yacht Club, for 50 people, and they did a fantastic job! 3 different curries with rice and poppadoms all ready for us to collect & serve at our club. The Home style lamb, vegetable bhuna and butter chicken were a real hit with everyone. Brilliant feedback from all of us happy & well-fed people. If you'd consider doing it again for us, we'd love to do similar again!

Just found the Taj Mahal in Amble, Northumberland. Booked at 5.30pm and turned up at 6pm. What a lovely welcome and excellent service throughout, even with a food allergy to deal with! Best Tandoori chicken liver starter ever had and Monkfish main to die for. Really impressed with this little gem and will return when we re next visiting the area!!! Thanka to all and compliments to the chef.

Although we hadn’t booked and the place was really busy, the staff found us a lovely table and looked after us very well. The menu has everything you would expect from a great Indian restaurant and more! The dansak was really tasty and the homestyle curry from the Chef’s Specials section was phenomenal although rather spicy but you can ask for any dish to be adjusted spice wise which is a bonus. We highly recommend this place for quality of food, great service and good value for money.

We had a takeaway on our last night on holiday, it was ok but not outstanding. The korma was a bit bland, but the biryani was lovely. The curry for the biryani was missing and I had to drive back to pick it up, which was annoying. They were apologetic and gave us some popadoms.

Amazing food, couldn't recommend the restaurant enough. All the meals were exceptional from vegetarian dishes (paneer and mushroom), salmon bhuna and veggie side dishes. Friendly service too. Wish we lived in Amble, lucky locals.

We had our eye on this place after walking past at the weekend and it was full. We were on holiday for a week so popped in later as a walk in on a Wednesday early dinner. The staff were really welcoming and kind to our kids. Service was fast. We chose some mild curries and a chicken goujons dinner. We ordered suitable stuff for the kids off the adult menu and they were fine with us sharing dishes. Both our primary school age kids hoovered it all up and had a great time. The restaurant was relaxed and pleasant for families. Great food. Our son particularly liked the peshwari naan and I’ve never seen our daughter shovel away so much korma chicken. All very reasonably priced. Great Curry place would recommend for families on holiday.

I was on holiday with my family in Amble and as I walked down the main street, I saw an Indian restaurant. I went in later and the waiter sat us down and served us our drinks promptly. The waiter recommended me the 'Malai Tikka'. This was a dish I had never heard of so I tried it and I did not regret it. The food was absolutely astonishing. For people who do not enjoy spice, this is an amazing dish. I would love to come again soon.

Been working in amble for a few weeks now and I have been very impressed with the management and service provider by the team.I've been getting take aways and the food was excellent but when i went to dine out I was blown away by the food and service it was so tasty I had to get a takeaway for breakfast but that's me. Food was not authentic lacked flavour and spice. Veg pilau was made with frozen veg (including Brussels sprouts!) and packet golden rice. Very disappointed but restaurant atmosphere and staff were fine. Don't bother if you really want a curry! Overpriced for the quality of food.

I came to this restaurant a couple days ago. I was on holiday with my family and we love Indian food. We walked in and the lovely staff showed us to our table. When we walked in, it was full of people. The food took some time to arrive but it was worth the wait. The food was the best Ive ever tasted. I will certainly come back here again. One of the best Indian restaurants out there for sure I definitely recommend trying.

Had a takeaway it was the Spring Lamb which could have been more saucy and more spicy even though it said medium. Bombay Aloo potatoes were soggy and not food, swimming in an orange gloop. Large size portions and helpful service.

I visited this restaurant today and it was very busy since the lockdown had lifted and the food and service was spot on

Sad to give a poor review, but nothing else fits our experience. Tepid food of poor quality, served on cold plates with an hour lapse between arriving at the table and the main course being served. Service was woeful, and NON of the serving staff were wearing the mandatory face masks. One member of staff did have a mask, but it was worn entirely UNDER his chin. Overall, this was probably the worst Indian Meal we’ve had in more than 35 years.

As we had our dog with us for a week in Amble we knew we could not have a sit in meal so opted instead for takeaway. We had Chicken Tikka Biryani and Chicken Tikka Korma with peshwary nan and poppadums. All were delicious and very good value

Ok we were staying locally as we were away on holiday. Being from Birmingham and have had tried many Indian restaurants and takeaways, & as a family I think we know what we are talking about food wise. Order was taken over the phone and collected. Food was ok not the most flavoursome dishes that we have ever tried .Almost, like lots of sauces poured over chicken or fish . The chicken was not the most tender that I have tasted . I buy halal chicken at home as it’s always so tender , what ever you use it to cook . Both the pilau and boiled rice was light & fluffy. Shame really as we ordered very early . Possibly if I lived locally I may not return. May have just have been an odd night .

We phoned to ask if they cater for vegan diets... "we are not a specialist vegan restaurant but can cook vegan dishes", so we booked a table for two, on the opening night following reopening after covid restrictions being lifted. My friend ordered meat dishes and I checked that everything I ordered was in fact vegan. I was slightly concerned when the Manager brought me over a Yogurt dip and as I never touched it, asked if I wanted it leaving for my main course. I reminded him I had asked for vegan food - he appeared confused. It's times like that, when you question the authenticity of the vegan food you are eating. The rest of the staff were very attentative although, I had asked for my dish to be cooked to madras strength, but was a bit bland; a real shame really as everything else was ok.

Myself and my wife are regulars here and Had the valentines set menu on Sunday and it was fantastic. Lovely selection of dishes not normally on the menu. The smokey chicken tikka starter was unreal and hopefully will be added menu permanently. Always great customer service and get a friendly welcome from shake karim and the staff!

Taj Mahal certainly put the spice in Valentines Day, with their takeaway Valentines set menu. It was amazing, from starter to desert! The lamb and chicken dishes were seasoned perfectly, with an amazing blend of aromatic spices. Amazing food, fantastic chefs and customer service.

Lived in amble for a little while now and this is my first time getting a take away from here. It was unreal, food was so fresh and boiling hot. One of the nicest Indians I have ever had. Fair price and a huge menu to choose from. 100% will be back and totally recommend.

Arrived for my takeaway.. Waited extra 10 mins but being busy is a good sign, I thought normally! My vegan lentil Dah without ghee turned out to be butter chicken ( really!!)... Not good after I'd put it on the rice/chips! Attitude could have been better on my return. But they aren't bothered as money is already in their pocket. Apart from that, rest of families meal OK apart from the cheep frozen chips. Taj Mahal need competition in this area.

Ordered a takeaway and was told it would be 40 minutes which was fine. When I arrived for the correct time I waited 20 minutes and then asked how much longer. I was told it would be ready when it was ready and they were very busy! I then waited another 10 minutes and asked for a refund. They waiter was extremely rude and said I couldn’t have a refund straight away and I’d have to wait! I explained I had already waited long enough and he just walked off. It then turned up another 5 minutes later. I won’t ever go back due to the rudeness, the waiting time and to be honest the food is average at best. I have only used this restaurant as it’s the only Indian restaurant within a few miles from Warkworth.

This is the second time we’ve been for a meal in the last 2 years. The food is fabulous. BUT both times we’ve been they’ve tried to charge us for poppadums when we didn’t have any! As the food was so good we decided to give them a second chance this year but this time they tried to charge us extra for all the dishes we had and when queried they wouldn’t show us the menu. SO VERY Disappointed. Maybe they think that if youve had a few drinks you become totally unaware of what you’re paying for! Hope they don’t do this to the regulars!

The service is impeccable. My starter of king prawn on puri was excellent. The Tikka Korai would've been the best ever if better quality chicken had been used. This one was tough and chewy. I would go back.

I was expecting to be wowed but the takeaway chicken tikka masala and special pilau rice was just about ok and that’s about as far as it goes unfortunately.

3rd visit here. I’m not usually a fan of curry but this was a lovely meal -two very tasty and spicy dishes, good and prompt service and reasonably priced. This was our best visit yet. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great anniversary takeaway. We have visited here several times & always impressed with the quality of food. Being our wedding anniversary & unable to go out we decided to order a takeaway, we ordered meat samosas, sheet kebabs & onion bhaji for starters, with lamb tikka,garlic chicken tikka, chicken madras & chicken tikka balti, pilau rice & garlic nan. Portion sizes were good, quality of food was really great. Miss being able to sit in for food, but takeaway was equally good. Highly recommend a visit.

Decided to get a take away from here however we were left disappointed. Ordered the mixed kebab to start, chicken fine but lamb stringy and difficult to cut/eat. We are used to Indians that use all fresh produce however the veg used in the veg bhaji appeared to be frozen and the rogan josh curry seemed to be made from tinned chopped tomatoes rather than fresh. Portion of the side dish was small, meat in rogan josh was not generous, keema rice was good but the nan bread was very doughy and could have done with longer in the tandoor.

Very nice place and always accommodating. The Thursday night special is well worth having and has a large range of items. Best to book if you are making a long trip as it is always full on special night.

A good move to brave the storm and walk to this restaurant from apartment to enjoy a great meal. it was busy which is a sign of a good place and the amount of takeaway orders that were being collected was tremendous. The staff were very attentive and the food was served very promptly. It tasted delicious and there was plenty of it. Prices were very reasonable too.

Just had a meal at the Taj Mahal and it was fantastic. Other half ordered monk fish curry and I had chicken tikka masala and it was absolutely delicious. It really was the best tikka masala I have had. So rich and flavoursome. The total bill was just over £80 and we had 2 bottles of Prosecco with that. Very reasonable. We are going back before we leave on Saturday. Brilliant.

Just went tonight for the Thursday night special, we did not book and were fortunate to be able to squeeze in, really busy. A cold winters night but the room was lovely and warm. Friendly waiting staff. Delicious food. Good service.

Wonderful Tandoori chicken, always great curries, good quantity , all good accompaniments, not too expensive.

This really was excellent Indian food and not at all oily....could not fault any of our choices. We went for 2 starters and shared a main so as not to be over full....this worked well
