Taj Mahal in West Somerset

We have eaten here twice now and each time the quality of the food and service have been excellent. I would highly recommend the chefs specials as each is both good flavour and quality.

Brilliant food and even better service, they are always so lovely in here and always cater for vegetarians which is great, can’t recommend enough

The curry was tasteless and watery. Would not eat here again. Decided to take the remainder of our meals home to make it more palatable. We were charged £1 for each tray they provided!

Wonderful food excellent service reasonably priced we had starters brill and Balti Chicken Curry with the most succulent Nnam garlic bread we have ever had it was not dry. Fab. Central on the main road we popped in with no reservation and was welcomed seated and service 'second to none'. We will return on our next trip maybe October half term break.

Visited Minehead with family. We’d been out for the day and had returned to the Old Ship Aground where we had accommodation for one night. We were deciding what to eat and whether to just stay at the pub and eat there as they do good food, but my brother particularly fancied a nice curry, so we Google searched for a local Indian restaurant, and found the Taj Mahal. Google listed the opening hours as 17:30 - 21:30. Checked Tripadvisor for reviews which were ok, but they listed opening hours as 5:30 - 9:30am??? Checked Taj’s own website which stated open every day 17:30 - 22:30….brilliant. We’ll have a few drinks in the Ship, then head to Taj for food. We arrived at 21:10, and as soon as we opened the door we were told that we couldn’t dine in, takeaway only, as they were closing. People were dining in and tables were available. We told them that their website says they open till 22:30, and that we’d foregone the opportunity to eat elsewhere on the back of that!! No explanation, no apology for false info on website, and certainly no change of heart with allowing us to dine in!!! So we expressed our disappointment and left. Really bad customer relations, no sympathy for the situation we’d been put in. How easy is it to change your website at least? We tried other eateries close by, but all stopped serving food. Thankfully we strolled up to the local Wetherspoons, had a warm welcome and luckily it was curry night, and they serve until 11pm!! Really good curry with popadoms, naan and a pint for £12!! Any wonder why some of these eateries close down and say why they struggle against the likes of Wetherspoons? Well not really when you treat people like the Taj Mahal treated us!! My advice…..don’t bother with TM, go to Wetherspoons, decent curry, half the price!

Tasteless Takeaway and Overpriced at £40 for two Worst Indian We have ever had !! Best avoided, I'm Sure there are better Indian Takeaways In Minehead

Service ok, food tasted stale and not very nice, mint sauce for popadoms was like dishwasher. We would NOT eat here again. Minehead NEEDS a GOOD Indian restaurant that has lovely food. This one does not!

Busy, friendly Indian restaurant on Minehead’s high street, The Avenue. Menu has all the dishes you would expect in a British curry house and everything we have tried (and we are regular visitors here) is good. Booking advised on a Saturday night.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant, great staff, excellent portions but also of good quality . We were not rushed, very enjoyable evening.

I recently ate here with my daughter and 2 grandchildren. We found the staff extremely attentive and very efficient. The food was delicious and would definitely recommend.

We've been to this restaurant on previous visits to Minehead. This time we took family members with us (8 adults and 2 children). We were well looked after by the pleasant staff. The food was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable as well. Our granddaughter announced to the waiter that it was her 4th birthday yesterday and they brought out a complimentary ice cream with candles which was a lovely touch. As a curry lover, I would recommend this restaurant.

Having read Trip Advisor reviews we visited the Taj Mahal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The decor and ambiance were pleasant, the staff were efficient and smart and the food was delicious and well presented. Car park available across the road (free after 6pm). Would definitely revisit if in the area. Lived up to its Trip Advisor reviews.

The restaurant staff were great over the phone, great in person when collecting our food. Polite, and busy restaurant on a friday night. Great value, great taste, quality curry, and belly the next morning, fine. Perfect for our Butlins holiday. Tip, start delivery to Butlins.

Needed somewhere in Minehead that served food after 8pm (horrendous journey should’ve taken 3 hours took 6) and for some reason virtually everywhere in what is a tourist destination town stops food service at 8pm?! Thankfully the kind gentlemen of the Taj Mahal could fit us in. Great choices of dishes on the menu whether you want old favourites or some more individual specialties - they claim their garlic naan is the best you’ll ever try and we had to agree as it was absolutely delicious as were our curries (chicken tikka and tamarind chicken) and decent portion sizes too. Cobra beer on tap is always good and the cost for our meals was pleasantly reasonable. Very pleasant service to boot. Absolutely happy to recommend and would gladly return if ever in Minehead and feeling hungry.

My favourite food outlet in MInehead. I visited quite a few during my stay in the town, and they were all pretty good, but this was exceptional. Absolutely delightful staff, friendly and very helpful A superb menu with dishes that I have not previously seen, and which were just delicious. Everything about this restaurant is first class. The service and presentation were exemplary. Highly recommended

Having had a nice in-house meal a few months ago, we got a takeaway last night and it was extremely disappointing. After being quoted 45 minutes for collection, it wasn’t ready when I got there, so extra waiting time. I wasn’t too troubled as I thought it would at least be nice and hot! It was actually only warm when we got it out. The lamb vindaloo and chicken makhon dishes had only 4 pieces of meat in them! Sauces were all quite watery, and no sign of chillies or ginger as stated in the menu, only powder. Considering the prices, this was very disappointing.

5 of us were in town to clear a relative's house and had 2 nights to stay. We had booked here for Friday night and enjoyed the meal so much we came back the following night and had an even better meal. We will make a point of coming back to Minehead sometime in the future just to eat here again!

We visited from out of town on a Friday evening. Overall the food was great and we really liked the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant. Sadly, we didn't think much of the service. The staff seemed very impatient and didn't have much time for us. This was reflected in them bringing out our main course whilst we were still eating our starter, despite us telling them we were still eating when they tried to clear some of our starter plates. When they began putting our mains on the table we told them we weren't ready and we were still eating our starter and they just ignored us and started putting them down. Really strange. The restaurant was open till 10:30pm and we arrived at 8:30pm so it wasn't anything to do with them trying to close.

Visiting from Cardiff. Only Indian Restaurant in Minehead. Staff friendly and helpful,with great welcome. Great food,and good helpings. Not expensive either. Highly recommended.

Came here as part of a little trip to Butlins, pre-booked table about a week ahead of our trip. A quiet 40+ year old couple with no children out on a romantic evening to start our little weekend holiday.Both mine and my husband's curries were watery with very little depth of taste, we couldn't actually really tell the difference between my pathia and his Madras. We ordered a side of chips along with various other sides such as rice and naan to be told they don't have chips. Who doesn't have potatoes to make into chips? There are two supermarkets directly opposite?!Ate (what we could of our meal), went to the desk to pay and leave, we did at this point (again) express our disappointment in terms of the quality of the food and this is where the service turned to not being the friendliest. We had already complained at the table that the curries weren't very pleasant, to which we were told they were "on the phone to the police" as "we were refusing to pay". I don't believe that they were on the phone to anyone for a second. We never refused to pay. Upon reflection I wish now we'd have stood our ground a little in terms of payment (due to the poor quality and lack of availability of food). They must do this a lot as with hindsight I felt very bullied into being made to pay £30 for a naan and rice - which were the only things that were actually fully edible. We never mentioned not paying, never made a scene, to be treated that way is not acceptable and like I say with hindsight I wish I'd done a little more to stick up for us at the time.Avoid at all costs is my advice! Daylight robbery for crap food.

We visited here on Sunday night and couldn’t fault this place at all. Covid safety measures were in place with staff wearing masks and having to sanitise hands on arrival. We ordered 4 separate dishes which were all cooked to perfection , the prawns were the biggest and tastiest ever had and chicken very tender and fresh. Portion sizes were big and curries could be adapted if needed. Being from West Yorkshire there are a lot of Asian cuisines and this topped them all!

Really enjoyed the meal at the Taj being from Birmingham where we are lucky to have a lot of really varied and excellent SE asian restaurants currys elsewhere can be disappointing. The taj food is excellent cooked as we requested nice and spicey great portion size and really tasty. Lovely choice of salads and pickles with the poppudums. Really recommend it.

Quick local delivery, order over phone only!!, set meal for 4 plus some extras. Standard offering found to be a bit mild for us but you can ask for more spicy versions of same meals, I think without any extra charge. Will do this next time .Most of Minehead's eateries have not moved into 20th century yet and have no on-line ordering. Time to improve. Did anyone say Just Eat?

We popped in here whilst on a brief getaway to the area. We ordered a take out to eat back at our digs. The person on the front desk was very polite and the food took 20 mins to arrive. it was great and had no complaints whatso ever , infact we enjoyed it that much we back the next night for a second meal. highly reccomend.

Went here a few days ago and all I can say is wow the curry was outstanding. But also the staff showed me so much appreciation being a NHS staff through this busy time with the virus . They gave me so much respect and gave me a few things to say thank you . Them saying thank you was enough but the extra stuff was really appreciated. I will be definitely be coming here again . Tried to get in on Saturday eve but literally could not get a table - the lady said it would be half an hour so we went for a pint nearby and on return she’d saved us a table.... moral of the story - book a table! Great food as ever especially the skillet served Shashlick. Some places serve awful lamb that’s not up to standard but not here... I’ve been going there regularly for nearly 30 years and NEVER had a bad meal or experience- it’s family run, very friendly and reasonably priced too with free extras for regulars sometimes . Ash and his father have always looked after the locals but without compromising visitors... very well run and I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Taj Mahal is a very cosy and friendly place to eat. The cuisine is tasty and freshly cooked and the set ice quick and efficient.

My wife and I really appreciate a great Indian food experience. This was one of the best. I would have taken pictures of the dishes but, unfortunately, they were too tasty and disappeared before I gave it a thought. The service is extremely efficient and friendly and the dishes are exactly what you should expect when ordering your favourites. The garlic naan is exceptional, dripping in delicious garlic butter and very soft and tasty. We asked for chilli rice, not on the menu, and it was perfect. I really don't think that putting pictures on would do it justice, suffice to say that you must visit when you are in the vicinity. Total satisfaction is what you will get if you appreciate good, honest, Indian cuisine. As a final comment, we visited on a Monday evening, early, and it was already nearly full.
