The Bengal Spice in West Somerset

We were in the local area found this place on google, upon entering warm greeting. Asked about takeaway told yes had some chairs at side. Restaurant full really busy, food coming out looked lush. We ordered a nice size order, food did not take long to come out at all good points. Onion baj were lush some of the best. Poppadom for 75p each you think get more than one mint dip, when ordering five think it was, normally we would see a few dips different ones. The chicken in the dishes were lush. The lamb dish I had was nice. The korma was a no go, very pale in colour strange had a flavour then masked by very bland watery flavour. The naan very damp, we had three different ones. I liked mine the other two said about not great but might have been because In plastic bags. Some nice points and some lacking in area but how busy they were just put to that. Might try again.

On holiday for the week and local pub wasn't serving food when we got there. Called in Bengal Spice on way back. We both said probably the best Indian meal we had had. Chicken fell apart with lovely tasty sauce. Had the balti and jalfrezi, equally nice. Friendly staff and reasonable prices . If found earlier we would have gone back

The BEST Indian we’ve ever had! Here for a weeks holiday and came back for another one on our last night! Meat so tender and staff are all lovely and attentive.

A little gem hidden away, they managed to fit us in last minute on a Sunday, and served up really good food, starters and mains excellent, that was a table of 10, As we are from Leeds it’s unlikely we will be back but l wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Popped in on the off chance for dinner staff were very welcoming. Good menu choices with some good specials. Food was all excellent quality and really enjoyable also good value as well. Definitely recommend a visit.

After reading the reviews I didn't know what to expect, but l was pleased that I do my own judgement. The service was very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The food was lovely. I had Vegetable Samosa which had a lovely kick to them. I followed that with Chicken Korma. I was not disappointed with that at all. There was more than enough Chicken in the sauce for me. I like a bit of meat, but I always get more than I can eat. The sauce was very tasty. The garlic Naan bread was not disappointing either. I left with a full belly and a smile on my face. If I'm in the area again I would definitely visit again. 5* food and service. Thank you

Had a take away last night as we are down from Bristol, staying at doniford bay. Worst Indian iv ever had. Poppadoms were over cooked, the chicken tikka had no flavour at all. The mint sauce was just a pot of yoghurt. Onion salad was a pot of pure white onion. Every bit of it went in the bin. Don’t waste your money

We eat here quite often whilst staying at Doniford bay. The staff are always polite and helpful. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. My favourite is the Lamb passant but also enjoy the rogan josh. Would highly recommend 👌

We have eaten there and it’s been ok. Have ordered takeaways and they’ve been ok…mostly. But two days ago, when we opened our takeaway, we found that the poppadoms were extremely brown, blackened at the edges, burnt to a crisp. I emailed them, no reply yet. I know that incinerated poppadoms 🔥🔥🔥should never be a great setback, and it wasn’t particularly, but I was slightly sad to think that someone must have knowingly put those cinders in our bag, knowing that there was every likelihood of us becoming distraught and heartbroken, weeping uncontrollably, projectile crying, on opening our bag and seeing the blowtorched carnage they’d given us. If we’d been eating at the restaurant they would not have brought this to our table. There is an element of trust when collecting takeaways because you don’t know the quality until home. Hopefully we will one day recover from this trauma and live to eat another day 🤔🤞🤞 Update: 2 weeks later, still nothing back from them. It’s no loss, other places to go and we’ll make sure it’s not another one owned by them.

We've been to the restaurant several times over the years and today I ordered online, It took my delivery order with my postcode saying what time it was going to be delivered but when I checked my order online it didn't show it. When I rang them about my order the person who answered the phone said we don't deliver to your area, said sorry and put the phone down. Thanks very much for spoiling my wedding anniversary surprise for my wife who asked me to marry her on the 29th of February 32 years ago.

Called in on off chance had not booked, was shown to table by very courteous waiter. He fetched poppadoms and drinks his manners were impeccable. Food was amazing place was immaculate and can't fault my evening at all. All in all perfect will call again

Quick easy online ordering for takeaway. Piping hot delicious food. Sundries often dobnt fare so well with takeaways, as they will have understandly been waiting around for a bit, but the puppadoms were the best ive tasted, crispy yet melt in the mouth. My default go to dish, Lamb tikka pathia, is really good, delicous suaxce, maybe could have doen with a couple more chunks of meat, but that is only beacuse the portion was big and there was a lot of sauce, in terms of meal size the meat was adequate (I was very full aty the end) would recommend ordeing some roti to mop up the delicous sauce. Staff were really pleasant and welcoming

Went early so not many people in staff were friendly.great choice of dishes at a great price.when the food arrived it was well presented and the flavour was even better.

Had a family meal , service was a little slow to start with but very busy and manager wasn’t there but once he came back everything was great again and manager came and greeted us . Always have a fab meal and wine . My tiger by the river of king prawns was very yummy 😋

Had a meal here last night.My wife had the pepper lamb stir fry .Lamb was tender. The sauce was thick and flavoursome. I had the kali machine bahar. I really enjoyed it. Plenty of chicken sauce was nice not to hot. The cheese and garlic naan was OK, more like a pizza due to the cheese being on the top of the bread and then put under a grill Could not fault the staff and the price of a big bottle of cobra was excellent value Would have no hesitation going there again

Our first visit.We've just had Chicken Balti here... and poppadoms with the chutneys. There was a Tamarind and Chilli chutney, we'd never had before... wow, hot and delicious... as was the main course. Wish we lived nearer... definitely recommend.

This is about our 6th visit and it has never skipped a beat. Service alway excellent and welcoming. The drinks are very reasonably priced and the food is just off the scale wonderful. My favourite Indian restaurant by a margin.

Lovely food, all waiters very charming and calm atmosphere even though they were busy.

We came here tonight for a late dinner at 10pm and we are so lucky that we did. The food was absolutely delicious but what stood out the most was the staff. They were so kind and the service was excellent, but even beyond that they played with our 9 month old and gave her a little toy and lollipop to take home! We enjoyed everything about our visit and wish we lived here so we could come back often. Since we can’t do that, we hope you will!

Don’t know what these 1 star ppl are on about. This is a really great restaurant, great food, courteous service, and friendly atmosphere. It was full when I was there, average weekly night, so I think some people let their wokism guide their reviews. Just a really good Indian restaurant, period. Thank you.

Great food, kind and helpful staff

Visited on a Friday evening and had a lovely meal. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the poppadoms fresh with a good selection of dips. The curries were very good, nicely spiced and plentiful - the star of the show was the Onion Bhajis - the best we’ve ever had - all in all, a great experience.

This place does the best curry I’ve had in a long time. Would recommend for date nights. Service is brilliant and a wide variety of options. Excellent.

Staying at St audries bay holiday park, ordered and delivered within 40 minutes, was expecting a mediocre meal but was blown away by what we got, an amazing meal delivered hot, quality of the chicken 5* and the flavours spot on, I don't do reviews but on this occasion thoruoghly deserved

Food is lovely. Really enjoyed everything we chose. Our waiters were attentive and polite. However, the individual who I assume is the manager was quite rude upon us entering the restaurant. There was a group of 5 before us and he was very polite and joking with them. Then when we asked for a table for two, the manager just pointed to a table, and then threw some menus down once we were seated. Overall, excellent food, but the service could definitely be improved.

Don't bother if you taste buds. I had a chicken bhuna takeaway. If it had been at home I would have taken it back.

Met up with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. The restaurant was quieter than usual but the service and food was as good as ever. Would recommend without hesitation.

Not been here for a while. Monday night was quite which was good for us but maybe not for them maybe. Good selection on the menu, good service and excellent food. We had the fish curry and it was excellent.

Excellent Indian food - you know you're in for a good experience when even the popadoms are home-made, and I'm pretty sure the same applied to everything we had. If we could beam up the Bengal Spice and beam it down locally, we'd be regulars. Thoroughly recommended.

It started very well when the pickle tray arrived - the best I have seen for a long time. The poppadoms were hot and crispy. The ambiance was lovely, proper cloth table cloth and napkins. Maybe a bit of sitar music in the background would have added to ambience. The staff and service are efficient. The curries were generous, tasty and plates hot. Maybe a bit more chilli heat would not go amiss in the curries. Prices very reasonable, happy customer.

Called at this restaurant after an eight hour round trip of driving for my partners 70th birthday as a curry treat for the end of day Ordered our food and paid but on returning home found my chicken tikka dasak was missing from the order Have used this takeaway for 24 years but when I rang them to say about a curry missing they said I didn't orderit RUBBISH I DID ORDER IT When I asked them to deliver the missing curry they would not do it We live 2.5 miles from them How difficult can it be??? Am extremely upset and angry My partner and I used to live in Williton across the road from the curry house and they had made mistakes before but rectified them What's so difficult they couldn't rectify this issue???? I think I was treated with contempt and dismissal as their prime concern was IN HOUSE customers Will NEVER use them again Just goes to prove after 24 years after having your money they don't give a s@@t Disgusting

Went to bengal spice williton with friends, it was amazing chicken Zafrani, brilliant staff and superb service, coming back soon :)

We had a delicious takeaway from this Indian restaurant and takeaway for the first time. Very generous portions and really tasty, the staff were friendly when I went to collect. I like the fact that you can order online and choose a collection time. Well recommended.

Lovely service, lovely food and made.ver y welcome and comfortable by the owner. My partner is a wheelchair user and was easily able to manoeuvre wheelchair to a comfortable seating position under the table . Great evening by all !

We’re in the 20th century & there’s still business like this one who are so far behind with staff who’ve not been trained in regards to discrimination, you cannot refuse a blind person entry to a restaurant because they have a guide/assisting dog with them who act as they’re eyes to keep them safe from danger ,shame on the boss & managers for discriminating & humiliating that poor gentleman, utter lack of respect & professionalism, now imagine you had taken great care in that blind man who visited your restaurant and looked after him, I’m sure your restaurant would be highly praised & you’d be in the news for something positive, shame on you 👎

They now have a dog friendly seating area so now are happy for blind guide dogs and other types of service dogs!!@ Even horses now apparently!!@ The bigger the better apparently my mate went in with his 3 great Danes and 4 dwarf sausage dogs and his xxxl bully they was so happy with him they gave his dogs plenty water 💦 So now they are ready for all creatures great and small

Refused a blind man and his assistance dog access to the restaurant. Of course the Bengal Spice were sued and had to pay compensation as they violated the Equality Act 2010. Avoid this discriminatory place. If this is how the Bengal Spice treats customers with visible disabilities, gosh knows how on earth they treat people with invisible disabilities. Take your patronage to businesses who respect UK law and value their paying customers.

BENGAL SPICE REFUSE ENTRY TO BLIND Seems the hospitality was forgotten at this establishment

Not sure what's happened but we have had takeaways and eaten in many times and its been great. Our takeaway was not good, watery sauce on curries, chicken was hard and dry, onion bagees so dry and full of oil they went straight in the bin. The food didn't taste fresh. Such an expensive disappointment 😞

I ordered a takeaway on line and turned up at the restaurant to collect it at the given time. The restaurant had a few dinner's but WOW the kitchen was extremely busy. The restaurant is run so proficiently I was well impressed, the phoneline was constantly going with people placing orders via phone, plus they had to deal with the order's placed on-line. There was 2 windows on the electronic system to show on-line orders and telephone orders so no mistakes could be made. I only waited an extra 10 minutes after my allocated time to pickup my takeaway and the staff were very apologetic. When I got my curry home I wasn't disappointed, it tasted amazing and packed full of flavour. Highly recommended this place 👌

Decent, not fantastic jalfrezi. Veg bhuna was enjoyed, as it had more substance. Ordered 3 pilau rice's but got 3 plain boiled rice's.

A nice restaurant where the take away meal was ready bang on the agreed time. The food was to a good standard although we were a bit surprised that there was not a vegetable sauce to accompany the biryani as we normally get in the midlands.
