Alcombe Tandoori in West Somerset

Visitited this so called Indian restaurant for a prawn dansak and tandoori chicken starter absolutely rubbish , the tandoori chicken didn't look as if it had been cooked in a clay oven and prawns very hard and tough , suspect frozen pawns from local supermarket. Another customer they have lost .☠

Excellent service and delicious food. The menu had a great selection of starters and main courses. We booked a table online for Saturday night and very much enjoyed the evening. Look forward to calling in again the next time we’re in Minehead.

It's not Indian restaurant, maybe Bangladeshi? The food was so bland..

Niet heel bijzonder indiaans eten. De bediening is niet echt heel vriendelijk of behulpzaam. Ze doen hun ding en klaar. Gelukkig weet onze dochter wat lekker is en die heeft de keuzes gemaakt en besteld. Het was prima, maar heb wel eens beter indiaans gegeten. De zaak heeft ook niet een sfeervolle uitstraling en interieur

Not 100% halal. Selling halal and non halal meat, prepared in the same kitchen. Full marks to the guy who answered the phone and provided the information. Risk of cross contamination is high. Can't comment on food or the quality as didn't end up ordering.

A little bit more expensive than being at home, but that’s ok, because you get what you pay for! By far best curry I’ve ever had, I absolutely loved it!!

The food was made to perfection. The Bombay lamb, chicken tikka jalfrazi, the naans were fluffy and how they should be. The staff catered for my childrens needs and catered for my son’s nut allergy.

A little disappointed, as I had read the outstanding reviews and thought this is the curry house to go to. Food was hot but not very flavoursome, Keema rice and naan was a little disappointing.

Great quality food, excellent service and brilliant value for money.

Me and my son ate here on 29th May, we ordered King prawn puri which was absolutely delicious 😋 we also ordered chicken madras, Garlic chilli masala with chicken, lovely flavour and spicy both with pilau rice and a garlic nan bread. I can honestly say I will definitely be back next time I’m in Somerset, the staff made us feel so welcome and where very friendly. This place is a gem, I wish we lived closer because we would definitely be regulars.

Visited Minehead over the weekend and got a takeaway whilst there. Chicken tandoori mixed grill, rices and onion Bhaji were very good and highly recommended. However could only give a 3 star as the Prawn Bhuna had zero flavour and had we eaten in it would have been sent back! To be honest with the prices charged it should have all been top class! Very disappointing and it won’t be on our list to visit again on future trips to Minehead.

Be careful if you use their online ordering system, I’ve just driven 45 minutes to pick up a takeaway having ordered & paid online. They say they didn’t get the order?? No apology

Lovely little Indian restaurant. Able to change my curry to meet my fuzzy needs. The chilli and garlic chicken was to die for. £15 banquet night is a bargain and a staple of our Tuesday nights. Highly recommend

Popped in here on the off chance whilst in the area. Staff were very friendly and although busy managed to find us a table. Good selection on the menu to suit all taste buds. Food was excellent, really tasty and good quality ingredients

Been here before and it’s been pretty good. But came in a busy Saturday and it took over two and a half hours to get our mains which is, frankly, mental. Everyone else in the restaurant and the people waiting for takeaway were in the same boat. The owner was inadequately apologetic and kept gaslighting the customers over how long it going to take for the food to come. “Be patient, 15 minutes” becomes another 40minutes. Cold plates

My wife and I visited Minehead for the weekend and wanted somewhere away from the town centre for dinner. Booked online on Saturday lunchtime for that evening. Arrived and found a vibrant restaurant, mostly full of locals eating and with people waiting for takeaways. We had a friendly welcome and great service. The food was exceptional - my wife had a great birianyi which the waiter offered to make it as spicy as she wanted, and I had the green chicken goan curry. Great value and lovely staff. The only thing we’d suggest is that the lighting is made a little more subtle, but that didn’t stop us having a great evening. Highly recommended.

A quiet night on a Monday. Staff friendly. Service good except asking if they should bring our main course when my partner was not at the table. So I said no and asked for it a little later. My side dish was cold so returned it. A new hot one arrived soon. My main dish was too spicy hot for me. When described as medium as below. Karai Cooked with onions, green peppers and tomato in a special medium sauce with a wide variety of flavours. Served in an iron skillet. I had kept the mint sauce from the popadoms so could chill it a little, to eat it. When speaking to the manager when receiving our bill I tried to explain it was not medium but hot. I was told it was “special” and I should have said when I ordered that I didn’t want it hot (?) How can I know that when the description is medium? They did however not charge me for my side.

Exceptional in every way. We visited on a Tuesday and was busy which is a great sign. We had a table for 9 and the service was great and very friendly. The food was excellent. We all ordered different items and each meal was perfect. Thank you to all the staff front and back of house

Just had a fantastic meal with a group of us , fantastic food , atmosphere and staff . Can highly recommend but sadly didn’t take photos of food but we did as a group and looked loved . Great for big parties 🎉 too

We decided to try this place after reading rave reviews , but it shows you shouldn't believe everything you read, we had three courses a soft drink and a pint and the bill came to £90 we could not believe it so we asked the the young waiter to work it out again he did this on a calculator and not the till at such speed it was blur , i mean we paid £7.00 for 4 popadoms ouch! and £6.00 pound each for two terrible bought in kulfi ice-creams , for our mains we decided to both go for chef recommendations meals which were totally bland and tasteless , we where given chutney and other sauces which we thought were complementary but later found out we had been charged for , the staff were very friendly but to quick clearing our courses they just appeared out of nowhere I mean we both had mussels in a masala sauce to start and the the first thing they took was the finger cleaning dish which left us sat there with messy fingers , we will definitely not be going here again i mean even all of the awards they have had won were years back , my wife told me we would of been better off buying the ingredients and doing ourselves and saved a fortune I mean £90 for two for an extra £20 we could of fine dined somewhere .

Curry house worth the recommendation! Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional tasty Indian food! Food was served within short wait and looked good so that boosted our appetite. I have got just good experience and happy to be back there for curry night.

After a booking mix up elsewhere, we arrived without a booking. We were 4 adults and three children. Although busy they made room for us and made us welcome.

We were advised to book, being New Years Day. So we booked on a recommendation and were really looking forward to it. Starter was ok, but the mains were cold. When we told the waiter,there was disbelief, as I had continued to eat it. We never even got an apology. Paid up and left won’t be using it again

Latest review Dec 2023 - Sat in this time, a few errors in the service, like no mango chutney with poppadoms but was rectified after asking for it, only other issue was barely any meat in the Keema Naan, rest of the meal was good. Previous review june 2023 - (Takeaway) - significantly lower standards of food compared to eating in. Previous review last year 2022 (5 stars): These guys always put on a good spread! Never had a bad dish and deserve the awards they have and more.

Staying in Dunster for the week,decided to have a take away on our last night,ordered chicken balti,rice and chips..I wanted to write this review as some reviews were negative,staff very friendly and the food was first class,generous portions and beautifully cooked.....a few diners there when I ordered and more within 15 minutes of me picking up the order,the dining area and the place in general looked immaculate....visit,you won't be disappointed

There was a problem with online ordering so when we arrived to collect they hadn’t received the order although the money had been taken, they told me that it would be ready in 5 mins and I jokingly asked that they cook it properly. The staff were very apologetic and friendly, no issues there. The food was terrible, very expensive, small portions and apart from the Bombay potatoes no spice or herbs, garlic cheese naan, no garlic and a layer of congealed cheddar on top that was rubbery and tasteless, watery tarka daal and stale paneer in the chilli paneer with no spice and inedible pieces of rubber, what a huge disappointment and a waste of time, money and drive to collect 👎🏽 to top it all I sliced the top of my finger on the foil container lid 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

Felt we should put in our positive review as had seen some negative ones.We arrived roughly 6pm to an empty resturant so were a little hesitant.However soon the place had filled half full, some clearly returners who were greated by staff,also some takeaway customers. Both always a good sign! Our meal was delicious ,service prompt,price reasonable .Slight hic up when we were charged for 4 poppadoms when we had only 2 ,but we didn.t query this .Would definitely return when we stay again at the Caravan and Motorhome club site 5 mins walk away.

Probably one of the worst curries I have eaten . No vegetables in the veg biryani and the rice was dry. The food was bland. Not a good experience at all.

Staying with family at Butlins and tried to order a takeaway for delivery. The online order form leads you to believe that food delivery is available. However, having put an order value of £180 in the basket, I was then prevented ordering with delivery, despite being allowed to select “delivery and enter a delivery postcode”? When I couldn’t order, I had to phone them only to be told that they definitely don’t do delivery!!?

Simply the best 'traditional' and authentic curry house in Minehead...been coming to Minehead since 2017 and have tried most of the other Indian curry houses in and around Minehead but Alcombe Tandoori wins my vote... They produced the best tasting curries... Thank you and will call again...

We called beforehand to see if they could cater for a nut allergy only to have the phone put down on us. Absolutely disgusting. Lost out on a party of 9 guests. As you can see from the reviews that it’s says for itself. Obviously didn’t want the custom and couldn’t be bothered to help with allergy’s .

Just disgusting!! The so-called Indian food has nothing to do with Indian cuisine. It's actually a disgrace to the refined and rich Indian tastes. The curry is blend, coconut flavour overwhelming the "fresh" herbs and the medium spiced beef tasted awful. Pilau rice wasn't even proper pilau!!! Coloured vermicelli noodles added to the rice to make you believe it's pilau rice, funniest thing I've seen. The fresh drinks are from big bottles where it's really flat, no fizzy left!!! Then they charged way too much then what we calculated. Didn't bothered the start discussing this, I just wanted to leave this place to never return. Do yourself a favour and don't eat here!!!

Amazing in all ways: ease of booking, service and food quality. The staff are E excellent - friendly, attentive and accommodating. The food was the nicest we have ever had in an Indian restaurant. Delicious curry. Would recommend the fish curry called pearls of something- can’t remember. Also ordered other curries and sides that were also good.

Service so slow it was unreal. had starters then waited hour and a half for mains. Curry very bland, would not return!!

The food was fantastic and some lovely different dishes on the Chef’s Signature menu. The mussels to start were superb and the flavours worked really well. We both had Salmon for our main course and it was well cooked and again lovely flavours. The peshwari naan was the best I have ever had - so light and fluffy and the coconut delicate. We shared a lemon rice which was not overpowering and portion size was more than enough for the 2 of us. Had a lovely Rioja which worked well with the flavours and reasonably priced too. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Restaurant modern in style. Would definitely return if we were in the area.

Went here on a Saturday night. Would highly recommend booking as the place was full and there turned a few walk in away. Service was excellent and very professional. Food is well above what you would expect and not overly expensive for what your getting. If your staying in Minehead I would recommend having a meal here

One of the best tandoori restaurants I have been to. Friendly staff and great food. Portion sizes were great the only downside was drinks prices - three pints of Diet Coke at almost £12 is a little on the pricey side especially when it’s flat and out of a bottle

Fourteen of us from a stag do at Butlins visited this restaurant and both the food and the service was excellent. Should we return to Butlins for another eighties weekend we will definitely be back here.

Service and food was at it's worst !! Especially the head person in the Bar Counter who doesn't even know how to speak Infront of customers. We were trying to figure out what to order and that person was shouting from there saying "Anyhow those people will order this specific item". Secondly their food, not even proper Indian food. As a reviewers we travel every week to some new restaurants and this one got the Worst experience in UK so far.

It was a meal for our anniversary. There were no tablecloths on the table. My curry was awful, it was extremely spicy which wasn’t pointed out on the menu. I normally have Jalfrezi which is quite hot, but this was something inedible. I tried to eat some but had to let my husband eat most of it as he doesn’t like food waste. No one asked if everything was ok with the meal. The young waiter there snatched the dessert menu from the table when we declined a dessert. He wasn’t friendly at all. We left and I bought an ice cream to stop my mouth burning.

Suger in every dish. Dont recommend veg masala to any one, it is full of tomato sauce and plenty of suger. No taste.

Delicious food and excellent service.

We were staying just up the road from this restaurant so decided to have a takeaway. Order was taken over the phone very easily and we collected at the desired time. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent , it was a fairly large order for 12 people, everything was there as per our order. Would recommend this restaurant for either a takeout or to sit in the restaurant.

Tasty food and a good range of dishes. Always busy here too Portion sizes a little on the small side though compared to other local Indian restaurants.

We booked a set menu for a large group but they didn't have Matar Paneer on the menu but it didn't stop them from cooking it for me. That was impressive. Could have done with a lot more heat for me. I did enjoy the meal.

We are on holiday from Cornwall & fancied a Indian. We ordered from Alcombe Tandoori, collected on time & what lovely food. All Indian restaurants have their own take on the traditional dishes but these were amazing, so tasty. You must try them.

Last minute curry. Was lovely but more chicken next time as there was only 4 pieces in mine.

Had a very nice meal with my girlfriend and my parents I had the vegetable turban and my girlfriend had the chicken mochak and my dad had the phatia king prawn and my mother had the chicken tikka balti and they were all very nice we hope to be back soon.

I wasn't feeling the bday vibe so ordered takeaway for home and a few friends. Ordering was easy . When arriving to collect ..the staff were vibrant and friendly. They were attentive despite havi g quite a full restaurant. Really made me smile. The food was 10 out of 10 . Everyone loved their meals . So my quiet evening turned into a lovely social event with lovely food and made easy .

I have always rated the food and service here extremely highly but on this particular night the food was far from it's usual high standard and the waiter did not listen to what we were saying and he seemed totally out of his comfort zone.

Great lamb and chicken shashlik collected. Full of flavour and spices. Lamb was a little tough, but that's the way I like it so all good. Chicken was tender and large chunks. Garlic nan was amazing. Salad and yogurt sauce was very good.

Service was nice and food lovely as long as it was quiet, payment took 3 reminders and 20 minutes after it filled up.

An interesting take on the 'traditional' Indian restaurant in a suburb of Minehead this was a pleasant surprise; good food with interesting flavouring that made this a memorable meal.

Visited here on a Sunday night and had a nice meal. Place was moderately busy and there were adequate staff to manage all the tables. Food menu has more than the 'standard' Indian dishes which was good to see.

Ordered two tandoori mixed grills, ended up arguing with the waiter as he kept saying it comes with a naan bread I wanted it with a curry sauce as the tandoori chicken does. Eventually we got the curry sauce instead of the naan bread. But if the customer says bring a curry sauce with it the customer should get what he wants

They have Cobra on the tap, good... poppadoms were nice and the tray of sauces more interesting that your usual. That's where it ends. Currys were quite watery, with scarce pieces of meat floating in them... I think I counted 6 tiny cubes of chicken...

Absolutely terrible food was watery, onion bharji was burnt, another starter not in bag, poppadoms where stale, naan bread was ver under cooked, called the manager he was very rude to my wife and then put the phone down. Wouldn’t eat here again if it was free, the awards they have must be fake and as for best Indian in Somerset well microwave curry’s are much better. Shame it wouldn’t let me put no stars as the 1 star is too much praise for this horrendous place
