Last minute home delivery order. All the dishes were fab, Vindaloo, Madras and CTM with the usual sides etc. Great quality and taste which was delivered ahead of time on a sat evening. Oh and loads of King Prawns with the Madras. If you're in the area give these guys a try, you won't be disappointed.

The food was absolutely amazing! The most delicious Indian we have ever had. Service was really excellent from start to finish. We were visiting Watchet and if we're ever in the area again we will definitely go back!

Food was lovely, just the right level of spice and the portion sizes were bang on. However, the service was very slow but in mitigation this could have been as it was a Saturday night.

We are staying at a local camp site so ordered a take away was lovely and hot when we got back to caravan the food was lovely the chicken tikka masala was a bit watery for me but still tasty nice the restaurant looked clean fresh and tidy staff friendly and polite will deffo recommend

Nice restaurant in Watchet, there is a small car park opposite which is free after 6pm. Extensive menu with all the usual favourites. Busy on a Monday evening shows how popular this restaurant is with the locals. Good variety of larger beers. The pudding menu is worth leaving a bit of room to sample.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, and service was good. The food is not bad, but is far from authentic Indian food, it's much too sweet and rather bland, lacking much complexity compared to the real thing.

Ordered a takeaway from here whilst we were on holiday. Possibly the best Indian we've ever had! Food was piping hot, despite us being quite far from the restaurant, everything tasted incredible and the portion sizes were more than generous. Would highly recommend if you're looking for tasty food!

We read the reviews on here and thought it sounded good so we went for a takeaway and my goodness it was good, very good in fact. One of the nicest Indian meals we’ve had. We couldn’t sit in because we had our dog with us but the restaurant looked very clean and ‘well dressed’. I would highly recommend The Spice Merchant, the flavours are spectacular. Well done to the owners your food and restaurant are a credit to you all.

We ordered a takeaway whilst on holiday in Luxborough. They were the only Curry house to deliver to us. The food was piping hot when delivered and was really tasty. The delivery driver was very friendly and polite

Had a takeaway and it was overwhelming bland. Balti and tandoori king prawns barely tasted of ANYTHING. No flavour whats so every really. Super disappointed.

Collect a takeaway at 19.00 after ordering it online, The restaurant looks lovely too, brought ours home to Doniford Bay where we are staying, really gorgeous hot tasty plenty of it, authentically Indian & big chunks of chicken & cheese, delicious highly recommended. I actually rang & complemented them on such an awesome meal. Great Value for Money and added bonus.

Five of us ate there tonight. We each ate different dishes and we all tried each other’s too. The food was gorgeous. It looked beautiful and tasted beautiful. They quickly asked us if we needed something different for our Autistic Son. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The staff were lovely, so helpful and thoughtful. Would definitely go again.

Great food but Service far too quick and spoiled our celebratory night out. Arrived at 6.30 and had some poppadoms. Mains were there before we had finished the poppadums despite asking for a delay until we finished them. We were unbelievably out of the restaurant just after 7.00. The food however was perfect. Would recommend this place but make sure you ask them to slow down especially when they are not busy on a Wednesday night.

We had takeaway and it was a mixed bag! My wife's Rogan Josh was, according to her, very good. I had Chicken Madras and it wasn't so great - not spice enough and very vinegary to taste! Portion sizes were fine, service was on time so I guess it's pot luck on whether you enjoy the food!

We went on a very quiet Sunday evening. And it was amazing! One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. The food was delious and good value for money. And the staff were lovely. We interrupted them watching the euros final but they were really accommodating and not at all annoyed about it. Will definitely be coming back next time we are near watchet

Great Indian food at a great low price. Recommended.

Very large starters, tasty enough food in general and the meat eaters were happy enough but the vegetarian option was a total let down. Basically they took frozen veg mix from a supermarket (the one that contains tiny cubes of carrot with sweetcorn and peas) and added it to the sauce. No large vegetables at all, no cauliflower, Broccoli, beans etc. just the tiny veg, oh and one single slightly bigger piece of potato. The garlic naan was also just a normal naan that was soggy from garlic butter slapped on the top (swimming in it and totally inedible). Not like a garlic naan I've had anywhere else, and hopefully never again. I think 4 stars is generous but it was good value and service was ok. Vegetarian 2.5/5 Meat Eaters 3.5/5

When in Minehead, its the place for a good curry. Not the easiest place to get to due to the road from Blue Anchor being closed, but worth the detour.

We loved it. Good food of course, but also a neat place, beautiful tables covered with linen and a relaxed atmosphere. Staff and owner extremely friendly and the price is very reasonable.

Absolute gem nestled in the lovely Watchet. Food was delicious and fresh, pickle tray and poppadoms 😋😋. And to top it all off...incredible prices, less than local takeaway prices back home in Plymouth. Keep being fabulous Spice Merchant...you have a wonderful establishment💯👏

Visited the Spice Merchant with friends who live in Minehead when visiting. Absolutely fantastic food, I had probally the best king prawn patia I have ever eaten and have eaten it in many resturants. Lemon rice which was delicate, light and delicious. Peshwari nan which was homemade and fresh, I also ordered a side of mint sauce and lime pickle, which was extremley genorous for the minimal price charged. We also shared a few vegetarian dishes, all fresh and delicious. Service was very efficient and polite, when we first arrived we felt cold due to aircon, maybe on to chill 2 large tables, who had almost finished, we asked if could be turned down which was done with no fuss. Could not fault The Spice Merchant in any way. Will definately be back and try some other dishes next visit. I used to live in the area, maybe if The Spice Merchant had existed when I was there I might never have left!

We live in Minehead. When ever family or friends visit we take them to this wonderful restaurant. The food has always been perfect as is the service and the prices. We would recommend a night out here. We have never been disappointed highly recommended.

Went there for a birthday meal, a great menu different to my local in Cornwall and far better value. Everything cooked to perfection would highly recommend it

Absolutely amazing food, we could hear them cooking it from scratch and it still came out really quickly with friendly staff. Prices were so reasonable and they were able to cater to our dietary requirements. All the meats and prawns tasted so flavoursome and fresh. Thinking about staying at our hotel another night just to go back here!

I have to put an honest review. The service was good but the food not so good. Definitely not a bhuna dish. No flavour more like a plain vegetable curry. The rest was just about edible I’m afraid. Unlikely to return as really did not enjoy the meal.

Just dined there. 4 tables being used, including mine when a family came in, one look at the 3 year old immediately told he was going to play up, sure enough after three seconds he started crying. Why on earth did the staff put them in the middle of us when there were unoccupied tables around the corner, away from everyone. I don’t run a restaurant but isn’t this very, very basic common-sense or did they feel that everyone should have their relaxing evening ruined by this family. I only managed my starter before leaving. Recommendations to the management, put noisey families away from other customise who have come out for a relaxing meal.

Went for a relaxing evening meal, was really chilled until a family came in with a spoilt child who immediately started playing up. Instead of putting this family away from everyone, they put them smack in the middle of everyone, despite there being unoccupied tables around the corner, away from other diners. The management seriously need to rethink their strategy, not everyone thinks a bawling child is good for a nice evening meal. I had my starter before escaping. I’ll not return, pity, as I’m working down here but the management’s unawareness means I’ll not have another evening ruined.

watchet is not a lively place. it just lets days pass by. shops and restaurants being closed is common as are short opening hours. so we felt fortunate to actually find a place serving food that was open. entered the restaurant and ordered a takeaway. one table had customers but by the time we left 5 tables were occupied. business looks ok. ordered food. obviously ordered curry. not exactly a culinary cornucopia when u have an indian is it. but we all love it and rightly so. curry is awesome. 4 of us. when i ordered mine which was a curry and a keema nan bread the man said to me 'no rice?' which is one of the most annoying things that regularly happens to me. i know what i have ordered. i know what i want. is rice the main profit margin food they have? is that why they ask? anyway, the food was ok. not awesome. it was ok. it was good enough and we didn't complain. it's an average Indian

Tried special biryani which was very greasy, the vegetable curry that came with it was very runny, garlic naan was not very nice at all, wet and soggy. Have had better food from here in the past. Also quite pricey.

Had a lovely meal, staff really nice and friendly, with a reasonable price, didn't have to wait too long for mains, poppadoms came out really quick would recommend, cannot wait till our next visit.

Great Food but too busy, we booked in advance 3 weeks prior while staying at the local Haven site and reading fantastic reviews here. Arrived 7pm as per booking and shown to last available table by the toilet at back of restaurant. Given drinks and popadoms in timely fashion, then 1 hour 15 mins to our main course, no big deal as busy but queue for single toilet by our table and constant stream of users. Food when it came was lovely but unfortunately the ratio of staff to customers did not work, also there were take away orders at the same time as a large group in restaurant. A real shame as I was looking forward to a lovely meal but in the end could not wait to leave.

Probably the best curry we have ever had! Stopped here on a wet windy October eve whilst staying in the near by Haven holiday park & wow the food was insanely good, the service was outstanding, couldn’t fault it! Totally recommend 👍🏻

Exceptional food with even better service. This is an absolute hidden gem. The food is simply fantastic with service that’s just as comparable, from the moment we arrived we felt welcome, the best compliment you can ever give to a restaurant is how quickly you return, we already can’t wait to go back. Better than anywhere on the Ladypool Road 130 miles away in Birmingham which is the Home of Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine, fact.

We were staying at the Haven just up the road and stumbled across this Indian on a visit to the town, so decided to book. We were not disappointed, the food was really good and good value. The staff were very nice and helpful. Sadly because it was a Sunday, it was very quiet and we were the only ones in there towards the end of our meal. We would definitely go back if we were visiting again

Visited in September on an event weekend and couldn't have had a better experience. To say that, what I had, was better than any Indian meal I've EVER had, doesn't do it justice. Service was impeccable, food was well presented and was a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. You know when it's gorgeous when the table is quiet, except for appreciative noises and every mouthful makes you close your eyes and savour every mouthful. Started off with with the vegetable platter which was crisp, but not greasy, and were so morish. I rarely have onion bhajees, because they're usually soft and all you can taste is the oil, but could've gladly eaten more. Their signature mint sauce was something else, and judging by the standard of the starter, I couldn't wait to see what the main course would be like. Main course did not disappoint, it was was the best biryani I've ever tasted. Some Biryani's are just too dry, and although this dish came with a vegetable curry, it certainly did not need it, but both dishes complemented each other perfectly. I don't know what spices they used but they did this dish proud. If you’ve never experienced good naan bread, you are in for a treat, as this bread is the perfect combination of chewy and crispy, buttery and garlicky. It’s exactly what every Indian dish needs to complement the otherwise bright and intense flavors. The only thing that took a long time, was trying to decide on what to have, as everything looked gorgeous. The menu catered for vegans and vegetarians and even carnivores would enjoy the vegetable dishes. This restaurant is, therefore, not your average and atypical Indian restaurant. The attention to detail, specialised dishes and level of presentation were incomparable to any other restaurant I've visited. The standard held here is more akin to a top restaurant in a city, rather than a historic small village in watchet. Both my partner and I would highly recommend this restaurant, as it was to us, and will definitely return again.

My review is based on just one instance of take away but based on the food, I wouldn't dare to visit again. Chicken Tikka Masala was a red sludge while Chicken Pasanda was a sweet yellow version of the same. Appalled at how little effort was put into making these dishes anywhere close to what they really are. We ordered Dal, and a couple of other dishes too which were all below expectations. Naan was the only saving grace.

We drove from Minehead for a meal here. Food was so tasty, very clean restaurant and the lady that served us was very friendly. We have no hesitation in recommending The Spice Merchant.

Long time since we had a curry and couldn’t have picked a better restaurant, the service was excellent and food including choice was very good, all at a very fair price. Only small gripe the tables are very close and tight fit but we will be back.

What a great little restaurant. The food was excellent with generous portions a lots of choice. They were so accommodating as one of our party is on a very restricted diet and another only wanted starters. Nothing was too much trouble and every request dealt with without any problem and with a smile. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

Brilliant restaurant in the heart of beautiful Watchet sommerset. Lovely menu full of Indian delight. I had the lamb tikka cooked to perfection with a lovely keema Nan. Very friendly welcoming staff who seated us no problem without booking. Very reasonable prices. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. A pay and display car park is conveniently positioned a few minutes away. This restaurant is a little gem for those wishing to add a little spice to their visit to this historical little town.

It is very basic inside, nothing special. It’s small and I am not sure if they have got an air conditioner, as it was a bit stuffy. So initially I did not expect much from my meal. But OMG, did I enjoy it when it has arrived! I can’t remember what it was called, but it was with prawns. These were the freshest prawns and they were so many on my plate! I did struggle to finish it due to quantity, but I made sure it was polished in the end 😁 This was our family meal, we were 6. We all had different dishes, but all were very happy with what we have chosen. We all said that the food was delicious and not overpowering with spices, like in many other Asian restaurants, so we actually could appreciate the taste of seafood, chicken and meat. So, thank you chef, you have made a very nice experience for us in Watchet, this was a meal to remember.

What a find, We were on holiday on a camp site near Watchet and my daughter found this gem, We ordered a delivery to the campsite, was delivered quickly and tasted so good, specially the Onion Bhajis. We loved them so much that we went back a few days later to get more as a snack as we watched Dirty Dancing at the open air cinema at the Marina. Highly recommend this restaurant for the great food, great staff and top service.. xx

Tasty food, freshly prepared. Very generous portion sizes! Curries are flavourful and nicely seasoned. Keema naan lacks a bit of meat and the curries could be spicer but overall I would recommend.

A group of 17 of us (8 adults and 9 children) decided to eat out. We knew it would be difficult to find somewhere to accommodate us all. We called a few places and were turned down every time until we called the Spice Merchant. They were more than happy to feed us all. We received a very warm welcome. The restaurant was very pleasant and very clean. We sat at two large tables, the adults and children separately. The service was excellent. The waitress checked with the parents first if there were any restrictions on the children’s orders and then took the orders directly from the children, which was a lovely touch. Despite the fact we were a large group and that there were other customers in the restaurant, we were served without delay. The food was delicious and a very good value for money. We really enjoyed our meal at the Spice Merchant. The meat eaters, vegetarians and fussy eaters were all happy with their meals. The menu is varied and apart from the classics it also features several dishes not usually found elsewhere. We were well fed and felt very welcome. Not only we will come again given the chance, we highly recommend it.

The food and service are outstanding in this reasonably priced restaurant. It does not look that inviting from outside, a bit modern and bland. But well worth a visit.

Very nice cosy restaurant, staff were happy and very kind to our requests, we brought a birthday cake in and they were happy to light the candle, and bring it to the table.

I read some mixed reviews about this restaurant but most of the bad ones were vague and seemed like a load of moaners or men who think adding chilli as the main ingredient means something has flavour, so I placed my order. It was absolutely delicious. Even dishes without a lot of spice had beautiful flavours. My son usually rejects Indian food but he cleared his plate, so the back-up sandwich was not required. There was not a single bad dish. We ordered for 8 people so it was a variety of dishes that we tried. The onion bhaji was to die for I absolutely recommend the spice merchant. I just wish I lived here so that I could order again!

We booked for a Tuesday night about 630pm and was surprised how busy the restaurant was with both diners and take aways. The service was good and the food lovely. Plenty of regulars here i suspect (several groups knew each other) which is a good sign. For our own part we thought the menu was varied and it took a while to chose but we had great dishes served promptly. Very tasty. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. We were pleasantly at what we thought was very good value. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Would recommend a visit if you are staying in the Watchet area. There is a payable car park opposite (West Pier Car Park), and a couple of others a short walk away.

We visited this Indian during a stay at the Haven Holiday Park. The lady serving was lovely and welcoming. The food was delicious and fresh. Reasonable prices and portion sizes are more than generous. I would highly recommend a visit.
