Tai Won Mein Noodle House in Medway

Been going here over 10 years now. The portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Always lovely food and very quick service. So pleased they are back open.

We visited on 8th June 2021, we ate inside, COVID-19 restrictions in place. The food is well prepared here and is hot when served. They do a takeaway service but don't deliver. My only negative is, they don't offer a online menu so you look at what they offer before you go. Overall I do recommend it as we come back often.

Great noodles House! Generous portions, great flavour. I would suggest one main (rice or noodles with meat) and a sudden dish for 2 adults. Been coming for years, glad it's re-opened

It’s a great Chinese noodle restaurant. The portions are generous, the cooking is good (plenty of wok hey) and the prices are sensible. It’s not intended to be Michelin star, but I would recommend it if you want an authentic Chinese noodle dish without pretension.

Haven’t been here or used this place for a while. Ordered a takeaway, which was thoroughly enjoyed and great value. I’m glad there potion control has continued. Not sure why it always leaves me with a dry mouth but i don’t mind as it always tastes good.

New to the are and have been looking for a worthy local take away. We have tried a few other Chinese restaurants and non have lived up to it yet. I decided to pop in at lunch and order take away. By 12:00 they already had quite a few customers dining in and more arriving so that was a good sign. Ordered chow mein, rice and ribs. Walking home I was wondering why the bag was feeling heavy- this is because the portions were huge! Very tasty and hot. We be sure to visit again. The staff were also friendly and welcoming.

I like it here. Clean restaurant with basic decor. Food plentiful and really good price. 2 main courses and 2 alcoholic drinks for £21. You can’t beat that. Staff friendly. Would recommend.

Been waiting to try this place since I spotted it walking around during lock down.Looked intrested.Yesterday afternoon finally tried.Good quick service.Is a cash only place, but the food is amazing and very fast if u really hungry works out well.Will be back next week.

02/27/2020 : This place has a clean modern feel and decor to it, lots of space for groups and a menu traditionally found in a lot of Asian reliable-favorite restaurants. They serve starters and a variety of noodles (soups, fried, vermicelli, deep fried). You get a generous portion and good value for money. You order and pay up front but the cashiers and the food is brought out to you pretty quickly. This is a favorite of ours when we visit Gillingham altho we were surprised why our noodle soup was practically FLAVORLESS last night! It was almost like the chef forgot to put salt or any form of seasoning, we had to double-up on the soy sauce. Hopefully this was just an oversight as we were a bit disappointed with this last night -- for the first time!

Went here for a quick bite to eat with my other half and my sister. The food is good and comes out very quickly. There is a lot of it and as most of the meals are under £7 it's good value although £1.80 for a glass of still water is a bit steep. There are plenty of beers, wines and spirits available but the soft drinks are limited.

Cheap and very cheerful. Ordered some noodles as a take away with some friends and I can say the food was nice! A bit typical Chinese food but the beef was cooked well and the portions are really big. I couldn’t finish all of it! I’d recommend if you are thinking about it. Mine was a little spicy as they seemed to chuck every single chilli grown from Mexico in there but other than that it was nice.

I was there with family, we were trying theirs roasted duck with noodles, mushroom soup, and roasted pork - all of the dishes were too salty. Meat was hard to bite and the meals doesn't look nice.Overall, if you will be hungry - You'll be fuul \cuz portions are big. But as above - the flavours I will rate for 3/5.People working there seems to be very busy, with no time to say ''hello' to customers.I will no come back there.

So easy to enjoy along with a good selection on the menu ,fast service and hot food sometimes too much ,but they have boxes you can take what you don’t eat home.Small charge but it’s worth it.

Always large portions and if u can’t eat it all get a take away dish (50p) charge and finish it at home ... been going there since 2006 and price increases have not been huge .. was £3:50 a dish in 2006 and only average price now £6:50 per dish ... definitely worth a try x

Been coming here years (sporting a hangover & without one too I’d hasten to add) and you literally cannot win. Huge portions, piping hot and bloody delicious, nice and affordable. Order the pork dumplings with your meal (they’re gyoza) - you’re welcome.

I went with a friend to eat here, the food here is really good, the waiting staff are friendly and food was served promptly and hot. Definitely good for a nice lunch

Came for lunch ordered two meals + chinese tea, you order at the counter once you have decided from menu.The food comes quicker than you could prepare it yourself, it is incredibly reasonably priced and very friendly service.Price £14Seating does not encourage you to stay for hours and is probably not an ideal first date venue. If what you are looking for is a meal served quickly that will not leave you hungry would strongly recommend.

Dropped by for lunch, decent sized portions and served freshly cooked, better than the usual Chinese restaurants/takeaways in the area. Service polite and fast, Definitely recommend.

The food is big , cheap to buy it tastes nice this is my first time and it was absolutely amazing and delicious. They have big portions so we as a family of 4 we ordered two different meals and it was 12.69.

if its a great plate of noodles or even just a good bowl of soup this place has it all and in large large portions. Excellent food simply served good service great value for money.

Tai Won Mein Noodle House always delivers consistent and large portions of fast hearty Chinese food. Particular favourites are the crispy tofu and vegetable noodles! A must go to in gillingham

My granddaughter and I popped in here after here swimming lesson as she wanted noodles for supper, so I chose this after checking the reviews. This was easily the worse noodle/ Chinese food I have tasted anywhere in the world. From the taste and sight, the food is full of colourings , greasy , poor quality meat, and awful tasteless noodles. We had two different meals and both were really poor. I could not fathom how they got your meal to your table in a couple of minutes from placing the order, unless this is pre- cooked and reheated. Both dishes were swimming in a greasy goo sauce, mine bright orange, and that was meant to be a chicken chow mein.

Me and my girlfriend love this place. The food comes out so quick, the plates are big as well. We tend to not finish it all but we always buy a takeaway bag and then eat the rest later on the day.

If you are expecting 5 star dining you are in the wrong place. If you want clean no frills environment with fresh hot tasty food it’s perfect. As with most places, treat the staff with respect and you get good service.

Great food. Large amounts of food for the money paid. Great service. Friendly staff who are always welcoming. Cash only though so make sure you are organised.

Staff were very rude and disrespectful. Asked for a takeaway box as had to pay 50p on top of the money I paid for my meal. The chicken satay was awful. Won’t ever be coming back here again.

Have frequently visited what is known as “the noodle bar” since I was very young. The service is super quick here. Your food can be on the table in under 5 minutes. The portions are absolutely huge to say the least. Often have to ask for a takeaway box for the extra food. Lovely staff and great tasting food. The squid here is amazing! Couldn’t recommend it more. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a “fancy meal out” option more of a cheap lunch or dinner. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you receive.

Always take people there for lunch and it’s become a tradition. Good portions very reasonably priced. Never had a bad meal here. Try the mixed fruit juice, made fresh nice 👍

Cheap and cheerful. Quickly cooked and served with a smile. If I ate here again I would ask for some chopped chilli, garlic, coriander for the top of my chicken noodles as there wasn't much taste. They are catering for the masses so not much surprise there, but I had a rib starter that was garnished with chilli, garlic and coriander and put what was left on the noodles and they were fine.

Came with friends a while back and they all enjoyed their meals. The prices are decent as well. Don’t bring food in, they won’t let you eat it here.

Go regularly, get a lot for your money and reasonably priced. Staff are great and very relaxed. It’ s on Gillingham High St but don’t let that put you off.

Good value for money Due to large portions. Good variety to choose from. We visit with a friend who is dairy and wheat free and easily chose what to order.

Came here for a lunch and as usual the food was great and service quick and friendly. Ok, someone here gave it bad review for service, so lets put this right. It is not waiter service, you decide what you want, go up to the Till / counter and pay for it. You will then receive a small bowl of free Prawn crackers to eat while you wait for your food. They then bring the food to your table, there are signs telling you this.

Visited yesterday at first glance this restaurant does not inspire, looks fairly basic. However the reason for going to a restaurant is all about the food and here this place fulfills on every level. The price the quality of the food and the quantity of food do not dissapoint. Well worth a visit.

Gillingham has quite a few eateries but this is one of the best. You have to choose your dishes though, not everything is good (I wouldn't recommend the deep fried prawns, chilli beef, crispy duck or ribs). But the fried dumplings and any of the noodle dishes (fried or in soup) are really excellent. My favourite is the Singapore Udon noodles - just the right amount of spice - but if you want something healthier go for any of the soup noodles. The item on the special menu called Chinese Vegetables is an amazing big plate of Pak Choi in a garlic and ginger sauce. Portions here are big but they will always pack leftovers into a take away box if you ask them.

The restaurant is not much too look at but the food is excellent! Will definitely go there again.

Been using this place for many years, its good quality and you get plenty for a reasonable price. Staff are always friendlyand i have no complaints.

You go in and are given a table. Choose from menu and order and pay for food (and drink) at the bar. Drinks arrive with prawn crackers. Large plates of food arrive, more than we could eat. Can't fault it.

Dropped in on a Friday night. Good food, good service, good value, what more do you need?. A no frills eatery that I would frequent again.

Massive portions. Had to take home the left overs, couldn't finish it all. I thought as it was on gills high Street it wouldn't be nice but I was pleasantly surprised. Staff are really welcoming also.

Sat down at the table with menu. Chose what we wanted. Waitress walks straight past us speak to a couple who just came in takes them to a seat. My partner complained and told her we were sitting there waiting to order. She apologised then walked off again without taking our order. We left and wont ever go back.

Excellent food with plenty of choice. Large portions and all freshly cooked. Service is fast with very friendly staff. It is in a pedestrian precinct but there is a pay and display car park (£1 covers you in the evening) one minute's walk away at the end of the street, If you chance it and park outside the restaurant, you usually get plenty of time to move your car to the car park when the wardens show up as there are big windows looking out to the street. It's a cash only operation - no cards - and you pay when you order at the counter. Because the portions are so generous, you can buy a "doggy bag" for 50p which is a lidded carton and a sturdy plastic bag. We always have to get one of those. Amazing value all round.

I've been coming here for a number of years and since moving locally make this the place of choice. Great quality food, noodle soup, pork and duck dishes are delightful. Hearty portions, fast service, great prices and welcoming staff, the value for money is second to none.

Considering this place has been in Gillingham for a long time it still churns out good Chinese food. Ordered over the phone and picked up within 10 minutes - can fault this. Both dishes were of good quality and tasted excellent.

If you like noodles this is a great place. Very friendly and fast service. The food is good and reasonably priced.

We last visited a few years ago but popped in again recently for a meal. The portions are huge, very tasty and very cheap. Service was good and the food served quickly. Will be returning.

Great restaurant very good value for money and such generous portions. Even though I couldn't even eat half, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Atmosphere was lacking, had some girls in dressing gowns come in whilst we were eating. Still would return here again despite that.

Used to come here quite a bit many years ago, seemed to lose its wow factor so stopped coming. Read the reviews so thought it wise to try again, the W-factor is back! Fresh prawn crackers brought straight to the table, the usual enormous menu to dive into. Be careful ordering, the portions ARE large, have a look around at other customers food or watch what the waiters are carrying before you get carried away with your order.

The price is cheap, the food is good and the quantity good.Used this place loads of times for lunch and never had a bad meal. it must be good because I keep seeing groups of older Chinese men eating in here. It's not the sort of place you come to for a romantic meal. At the end of the day it's a noodle bar where you sit on a bench . The service is always quick. You always get a small bowl of prawn crackers with your meal as well.They also do takeaway. Give it a go.

The food here is so good, and the portions are huge! The price is very good, you get so much for your money! It is very relaxed though, I wouldn't dine out in the evening here.

This is a quick, easy, place to eat. Yes is very basic, yes you sit on a bench, yes it all comes out a the same time. But, its well priced, you get loads on your plate and its cooked well and tastes great. Its so good even the Chinese locals eat here. Have the soup with noodles and meat, or the Black bean. Our favourite is the chicken on skewers with peanut dip, that is good, better than I have had in China town.

I always go there for a soup lunch,you cant go wrong with £2:50 soup if you dont want something big and hearty.service is polite and always prompt.

The food here is always delicious and you are always given a great service. The food portions are extremely good for your money and is great for a nice treat out.

We usually come here as it's a cheap and nice little restaurant, however to tonight my partner had spicy garlic prawns and noodles, however the noodles where drowned in a sauce that wasn't very nice and she didn't enjoy it at all, I had sweet and sour chicken on noodles which is usually very tasty however today it was as if the chicken had been left on the side for ages or reused, overall our experience today was very disappointing to

Wasn't going out but decided to head to Tai Won having read the reviews on here.. They were pretty much all correct. Quick service, friendly and warm welcome. Plenty of seating even on a Saturday night and ideal for an informal meal out.

Came here with a work friend as she said it was her family's favourite place to eat! She wasn't wrong, it was scrumptious and will defo be going back with my partner!! Take a container with u as it's hard to eat it all and it's too good to leave behind!!

I have been here so many times, and im never let down, its hot, tasty and cheap for the huge plate of food you can get, you could feed 2 people with one plate for just £6-£7 without drinks or around £8-£9 with drinks. I will always go back for more as and when i can.

You can never really go too wrong with an all you can eat chinese restaurant. The food is always hot,and tasty. Although when it's busy it's not hugely plesant. The wooden seats are really uncomfortbale and not suitable for people with bad backs but other than that. Nice place to go.

Eaten here many times. The staff can be a bit abrupt and there is no service with a smile; but food is hot, tasty and cheap. Portions are HUGE so very good value for money.

We had just arrived in Gillingham and set about exploring the main street on a Sunday evening when all outlets were closed. The Chinese restaurant, open for business was a welcome sight. We did not regret our visit. Delicious hearty meal with other patrons, really friendly staff, who took time to explain the menu. Relatively inexpensive for a good portion of curry rice. Subsequently paid a second visit with the fullest of intentions.

The staff here are rude and unhelpful. The tables are all sticky and there was food on the floor. The food is served on huge plates (big enough for 2). If you don't mind the bad service and sticking to the tables/floor then it's cheap and you get loads.

Tasty food and good value too. Service very efficient although some might feel it a bit 'brusque'. Long tables with benches. Laminated menus on tables, order and pay at the bar/counter. A cheap and cheerful(ish) place that I use whenever I'm in Gillingham and want a good value and tasty bite to eat during the day.

Been here loads of times, Eat in and Take away. Its a bit like sitting in a canteen, but if you don't mind about the lack of ambience which is made up for by massive servings of hot and freshly prepared food, then you are in for a treat.

Strange to recommend as a restaurant, as not very comfortable and no ambience but food is fresh to order, generous serving and tastes good , rubbish service though not welcoming

Been here several times with family and friends and never disappointed. Excellent food served unbelievably quick at superb prices. Portions are large, so be careful not to over order. Staff are 'Hong Kong' efficient, but friendly with it. Recommended.

I usually travel a fair way for a takeaway from tai won mein, we used to go to the one in Greenwich!

I love that whenever I visit Tai Won Mein, whether it's to eat in order take away, I receive the same fantastic service and tasty food! Such good value for money as well!

Has been in Gillingham High Street for many years now which says something. It wouldn't win any prizes for atmosphere but the quality of the food is excellent - big platefuls, piping hot and tasty. Satay seafood and rice and a Singapore noodles both loaded with meat/fish two soft drinks for £15. Oh and served at lightning speed if you are in a hurry!

Very good food and plenty of it, excellent service and no problem with a guide dog puppy coning with us

The food is served up on a 15" plate and we have always found it a good size meal.

Every time we eat here is food is perfect, i have to say its the best around the beef hofun is amazing i will be back soon.

Went here today, had Sweet & Sour chicken noodles & duck noodles with two diet cokes & prawn crackers came to £15 so very cheap! The lady member of staff was very rude, slammed down our plates.. Not much atmosphere bit like a school canteen.. I would say the surroundings were off putting!

Another good meal - good food and great value for money. Staff are helpful and we had the sweet and sour chicken, Ho Fun soup, spare ribs, dumplings and seaweed. Oh and don't miss the Chinese tea.........

Great food but don't eat before you come, you will be full for the rest of the day. So many noodles. Staff are friendly and pleased to serve your every need. If you find the food way too much you can get a box to take it away with you. I have never finished a plate of noodles. It was clean and the tables are also cleaned as soon as you leave. Love the food here visit a few times a year and have always enjoyed it. Thank you Tai Won Mein & your staff as its one of my favourite eating places.
