We have visited Tai Pan now Tai Wu many times before. We love the food. Our children has come back for Easter and hence we decided to have lunch at Tai Wu, Manchester, Sunday the 7th of April. I did call up to book a place but was told that just turn up. So I thought, it must be quiet. Wrong!! Massive queue. Nevermind, you have to wait for good things in life. So we settled down to wait and eventually was led to a table. Wait for it, Table 13! Maybe that was an omen. We ordered drinks, starters and main course all at the same time. Drinks and starters were served in due course and then there was a long gap. We had some left overs from starters, seeing that the waitress gave us some take away boxes, which we thought were strange as usually that is given at the end of the meal. Still waiting. It was very difficult to get any attention of any of the waiters but eventually caught the eye of one. We explained that we have not been served the mains. It was getting late and we did not want to get caught up in the football traffic as Man Utd was playing Liverpool. The waiter apologised and we asked to take away the main course rather than eating there. That spoiled the whole experience. On top of that we had to pay for the service charge as well which should have been waived. I have emailed the restaurant about our experience but did not receive any acknowledgement and hence putting it out here. However, the food remains excellent and up until the mains, we were having a good time. Hopefully, this is a one off!

We came pre theatre in Manchester, but made it a late lunch rather than early dinner so that we could get dim sum. We were a party of 5 so got a range of dim sum, some veggie, some meat, all were excellent. Service was good and the food came quickly. Good value too. Recommended. (BTW the restaurant is now called Tai Wu, but still at 81-97 Upper Brook Street)

Nice food, comfortable environment and the staff are attentive. Parking is a little tricky as you would have expected it to be a bigger car park with it having both a Chinese supermarket as well as the restaurant above which also caters for weddings etc. Came for dim sum and it was very tasty, with quick service. Would come back again as it is very authentic here and everything was just right

Food is very good. Would have got more stars, but I found out at the end of the bill, They charge £1.50 per head for two pots tea between eight people, considering they just keep Topping up with hot water and not a pot of tea for everyone, and They added 10 percent sevice charge on top of it. This was not mention or printed on the menu or leaflet.. When enquiry was made, the waitress was very rude.. So the food gets full mark, but the way they operates leave a lot to be desire.

We visited here as it is close to our son’s uni accommodation and it was getting late and we had a long drive back home afterwards. We popped in on the off chance so were really pleased they could accommodate us at short notice. The restaurant itself seemed quite busy and we were asked for our order pretty much straight away. And that level of urgency continued throughout the meal. In fact it felt incredibly rushed to the extent that plates where being cleared before my son had finished his food (a personal pet hate for me). To top it off, I spilt some food on my blouse and proceeded to dab it with a red serviette from my side plate. Unfortunately the dye transferred to my white blouse and has basically ruined it. The food was ok; soup was nicer than the mains but they were fine. I thought it was quite expensive for what it was but then everything is surprising price - wise, these days. I’m not sure I’d return, especially wearing white!

The food is authentic, suggest group people come together so can order many different types of dishes. Come here many times already, but this time we order the crispy roast pork belly. it suppost to be hot and crispy ,but this time it's room temperature, not very good, but their dimsum still recommended to order. The egg fried rice also tasty too. Their milk tea and ice lemon tea is a bit too sweet for me, I like to order their hot tea. But their location is not right in the city center, but very close to the university of Manchester, the restaurant ground floor is orient supermarket .

I wish it would let me submit a No star because it was worse than terrible. I went here for my partners birthay meal. Instead of this being a nice experience were left feeling very upset and angry. This was a meal for 4 people we all ordered dim sums and mains and prawn crackers. Instead of the dim sums and prawn crackers comming first. Our mains dishes came first. It was a mess our table, No organisation staff were not helpful. Chips came last half way through the meal. There was no consideration. Staff were too busy to help. No communication when putting dishes on table they just left them. I complained and they told us it was our fault for how it was ordered. No common sense. When we explained how unhappy we was they wasnt bothered they just took off service charge. This was not the first time in this place we normaly have had good experience which I explained but for sure I will never return. It has definitely gone down hill. Lack of customer service. Worst mistake booking a table here.

Whenever I visit my son in Manchester, we immediately go here for lunch. I decided to book well in advance because it was Friday lunchtime. When we arrived the place was absolutely rammed with a substantial numbers waiting for a table. Within 5 minutes of our on time arrival my name was called out, much to the surprise of those queuing, and we were at our table. As far as I could make out we were the only non-Chinese in the restaurant; something I like and which reinforces the quality and authenticity of Tai Wu’s food (it used to be called Tai Pan). At this point I should mention that the service is incredibly polite and super efficient. Everything happens at pace which is very characteristic of a good dim sum restaurant. All of what you expect to see on the menu is there, but I would like to make special mention of the char siu cheung fun and the Beef Ho fun; it’s all fantastically authentic with none of those ‘designer’ dim sum dishes you find at some ultra premium places. It also happens to be very reasonably priced. I can’t recommend this place highly enough

What was Tai Pan is now Tai Wu. Tai Pan was an old favourite, and the front of house staff who have stayed behind even recognised my voice on the phone. It now offers a smaller menu, which is actually much better because here are fewer spicy stodgy northern and western dishes, so I would presume a southern, Hongkonger or Cantonese chef. The price is dearer, but so are many other restaurants of all cusines all over the place. The most important thing is the flavours are still there. Those that are dense and fragrant are still dense and fragrant, those that are light and plain are still light and plain. And the portions are actually bigger, for we need fewer dishes to get filled. My friends who have dined with me there many time all agreed that this will still be a place to meet and eat in future.

Dim sum is extensive and excellent, s&p squid is to die for and the stuffed duck and mixed meats are made in heaven. Wonton noodle soup with extra char su for two people? Sorry sir we don’t do that any more, you will have to bye a full portion of char su between you to go with the soup,Ok we did this and two of the largest bowls of wonton noodle soup you’ve ever seen turn up. Wontons where mediocre at best, noodles masses of them, but the soup base was disgusting, week insipid dishwater would’ve tasted better. The large portion of char su was actually quite nice but totally Unnecessary as a small amount of meat on each bowl of soup would’ve been adequate as has always been the case in the past. I have to add that my friend and I have worked in the Manchester black cab industry for over 35 years and know the quality of Chinese food in the city, and have used this restaurant for many many years, both in large and small group’s, and we know they can do better. Now to the salt and pepper ribs. Usually nicely roasted and dry and very tasty as I said earlier we have been here before many many times. They were dripping in oil and very underdone. Tried one, not so good again under done fatty pork tasteless.Took the rest home with half a plate of char su we couldn’t finish because of the giant soup, for the dog.To summarise this meal with a fallow retired Manchester black cab driver after just coming from the funeral of another cabbie, it finished of a rather black day to say the least. So two soaps without char su, plate of char su, two salt and pepper ribs, two bottles of Chinese beer, pot of Chinese tea which I’ve never been charged for before. Plus service charge.£69.84.There having a Giraffe. One might ask why we didn't make a fuss at the time as we certainly would have done in our younger days. but two old friends in our mid seventies one with Parkingson Disease have to forgo such excitement. We can use the services of Trip-advisor instead and word of mouth, and not give them our business again. And a lot of the lads on the cabs will probably follow suit and also pass this on to there clients.

We held a 20 person 80th birthday party at the Tai Pan this evening and it was a huge success in every department. Contacted the restaurant via email several months back and got prompt, friendly responses including menu options. Confirmed final numbers a few days before the event and locked down the menu (we did a variation of a set menu which the staff on the phone both advised us on and accommodated) and everything that came out on the day was exactly as promised. Throughout the evening the staff were attentive without “hovering” and they timed the different courses expertly - checking in with us to allow for a pause mid-meal for a birthday toast of champagne! The food was all excellent - freshly prepared, flavorful and despite the volume of people needing serving at once everything was delivered across our two large tables piping hot. The restaurant has dedicated parking in a lot right outside and is located on the 1st floor but has an elevator / lift which can be important for the 80th birthday crowd. Everyone enjoyed themselves in our party and the staff at the Tai Pan were a big part of making the event a success. I fully recommend this restaurant.

We visit Tai Pan at least on a monthly basis for dim sum and they never disappoint. Everything comes out quickly and tastes super fresh and is by far the best place in Manchester for authentic dim sum. They have a vast menu (which includes English translation) at great prices. Portion sizes for the non-dim sum dishes are also very generous. Highly recommended the salt and pepper squid - one of our faves which is always perfectly battered and seasoned every time. The staff are also really friendly from start to finish, even those who weren't waitering on your table will say bye with a smile when you leave. They also offer free parking on site plus a Chinese supermarket on the ground floor. If you like Glamorous on Oldham Road then you will love this place as its 10x better!

We were a table of 4 and a child and recommended by our son to visit but unfortunately chose father's Day which was very busy and fairly chaotic. Ordered drinks and starters, after 20 minutes drinks arrived, then after another 10 minutes one starter came out, then 10 minutes later rest came out. Finished starters and waited patiently for next courses. We understood they were very busy. After 45 minutes one main course came out. We all then waited for rest of meals to arrive and again no food appeared. After another 10 minutes we'd had enough and complained and lo and behold the food arrived within 3 minutes. What was that about? Most annoying was that the next table of 10 people sat down after us and received their food promptly. Food good but dreadful service. Probably chose the wrong day but felt we were given bad service after watching good service at next table. But for the fact we were with our family and didn't want to further cause a fuss we wouldn't have paid the 10% service charge. Not a good day.

First visit here and quite impressed. Nice enough place, decent staff and varied and extensive menu. Had plenty and all food good quality freshly made and hot and not a significant wait. Would return.

Visited this restaurant purely on Tripadvisor reviews - and did not disappoint! Food & especially the service was excellent. Definitely would return again, if only for their yummy salt & pepper squid starters. We got seated straight away, restaurant was pretty quiet late afternoon, most people out shopping on Black Friday early evening.

I met up with friends and their 2 small children for a late Saturday lunch on a recent visit to Manchester. The restaurant was heaving but despite not booking we were quickly seated. As they were regulars my friends just ordered "a load of stuff". In general their choices were great and I tasted some new things (tripe and whelks). The dim sum were all delicious - all sorts, crispy squid, steamed buns, har gow, the aforementioned tripe and whelks. We also had some beef and seafood noodles - the wide noodles were very good although the sauce on the seafood noodles was a bit bland and gloopy. Service was quick and friendly.

Normally in a group of 4/5. We used to be regular customers. Now we go about once a month. As in the title, the food is generally ok, but certainly nothing to write home about. Lunchtime specials are good value. Flavours are good, as are the dim sum. Rib prices are high. Soft drink prices are extortionate. We all drink soft drinks as we are alI drivers. Only go there as it is convenient to park.

We've been coming her for years and the food is delicious. Dim sum is one of the best around Manchester and dinner is just as good, would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Food good as usual. But the waiting time is a bit long and not enough staff so the service is just ok.

Never should u go here to eat best to go to local take away and eat at this place is not worth the visit. Anyone planning on going here do so at there own risk. Very bad people and discusting attitude . This place needs to be shut down like last time when it was closed by the enivoroment enforcers it should have never opened again. be advised to avoid.

These dishes, I found them excellently done and quite filling. They are also healthy. I do look up to the next time I visit Thai pan Restuarant to sample again. If you have never tried them, treat yourself next time you have the opportunity. In addition the prices are quite friendly and very competitive. The service is personalized which helps you understand what to eat especially if you are not of Chinese descent.

Pedimos dim sum. Máxima No pidas agua. No comer aquí.

I go to The Wok for years. Love my sweet and sour Chicken with soft noodles if is freshly cooked :) sometimes happens that the chicken taste dry and chewy but most of the time is ok. Wondering why they have been closed for so long but finally they reopen and today I am going to get my favorite 😍

It is a very Hong Kong-style tea restaurant. Hong Kong-style milk tea, Hong Kong-style mix coffee with milk tea, fried beef noodles and BBQ pork, chicken & duck are all delicious.
