Tafarn Jem in Ceredigion

Just looking for somewhere to get a cup of tea and a cake and we came across this little place. Only taken over by its new owners about a year ago and they have made it warm and welcoming. Really very nice people indeed and I wish them all the luck in their new adventure. Tea was great as were the cakes and if we are ever in the area again, will look this one out for a nice evening or lunch time meal.

We booked afternoon tea for last Saturday, and it did not disappoint. The food was delightful, the hosts most welcoming, and the view stunning (even though it was raining.) We had such a positive experience, that we've booked to go back for the Grill Night next month. Well done Paul and Vanessa, you've breathed new life into the place!

excellent home made cakes and food combined with lovely views, with very friendly and helpful owners. definitely worth a visit. will be back to visit the pub side ASAP

Called into "the Jem" for lunch today. Lovely food, sweet and savoury, and a fabulous view from our table.

We were the first customers in their newly opened tea room! Lovely staff and excellent food! Great portion sizes and quick service. We really enjoyed our meal overlooking the stunning views from the window. Lovely pit stop if you’re driving through the beautiful Welsh countryside. Will come again!

Visited my son in Lampeter today and took him to this lovely pub for food. Have to say that we both really enjoyed ourselves. We received a warm welcome, owners were friendly and happy to chat, food was extremely tasty and very plentiful (no room for dessert!!). The pub is a very "Covid aware / safe" space, and the precautions that are in place here are very reassuring. Well done and highly recommended. Sorry, but we will be back very soon.

We been promising ourselves an evening meal out for a while. Not wanting to go to far, we thought we’d try Tafarn Gem. We had booked but had chosen a summer’s evening and surprisingly Tafarn Gem wasn’t busy. We were made very welcome. The atmosphere though not busy was very nice. We had a nice table with a stunning view. The food was excellent and we enjoyed it, washed down with a few pints. All very nice and I would recommend Tafarn Gem no problem.

If you want home made food and a great service, then this is the place to come. Thursday nights are a bargain with a selection of main meals and desserts to choose from for only £14. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the view from the restaurant is fab. Can't fault it.

Booked a table over the phone for three, and asked if it would be possible to have a table in a quiet area, (at this point we were unaware that it was a pub and restaurant lay out) I was told the following rather abruptly, "Well no, it's a restaurant". After the phone call, I spoke with my friends, and we were unsure whether we still wanted to visit the establishment, however we decided to go ahead with the booking and make a decision on arrival as to whether the table would be suitable. Upon arrival, we purchased our drinks at an empty bar and noticed that the restaurant was rather full and very open plan, with no feeling of intimacy. There was a suitable table in the bar area which appealed, and I asked if we could eat there as we are uncomfortable in large communal areas. Once again I received an abrupt response from the barman telling us that that is for for drinkers and they sometimes swear, and that your table for three is over there in the restaurant area. At this point we decided and informed the barman that we would not be eating there, having had such an unpleasant experience up to this point, and felt that the establishment was very inflexible. We were all quite upset by the experience and will not be returning. Such a shame as the establishment is in a lovely setting and, (judging by the comments of other reviewers) the food, especially good.

Went to this lovely Pun on a recco from the owner of the Cottage we were staying in. Thurs night is Steak night so you get a Steak meal and a pudding for £14.00 What a Deal!

I have always wanted to call in here but each time we have gone past it has been closed. Luckily, on our way from home Lampeter Agricultural Show yesterday it had just opened so we called in for lunch which was home made and delicious. I had the steak pie and hubby had faggots, he also had the rice pudding which he thoroughly enjoyed. Both hosts are extremely friendly and the two dogs Lily and Jake are adorable. The view from the restaurant is amazing. We will definitely call in again when we are passing as long as it is open of course.

Great food here and reasonably priced. Had a Gammon last time there and it was the tenderest I have ever had. Great selection there too. Highly recommended

Yes Tafarn Jem is a true GEM. The beer is well kept, the cuisine is so palatable even though the menu may seem restricted in choice it suited my wife and I in every way. We travelled from home to the Brecon area for a day out and finally popped in to Tafarn Jem and we now intend to call in regularly for a meal. Make sure you have room as the portions are generous the 12oz steak I had was cooked to perfection with sufficient trimmings but if we choose to have a starter then the 8oz would be a wiser choice must save room for a pint!! The regulars at the bar are a cheery bunch too but most of all thank you to the serving ladies - your enthusiasm and social discourse has to be recognized as a major draw to those seeking a really decent local to frequent on a regular basis.

Found this pub just by chance when looking for food on the way home from holidays. We were a party of 5 people and everyone really enjoyed their meal and service was great. The pub has a very scenic location too. Would definitely recommend.

Wanted a nice pub with relaxed atmosphere for a meal with friends. First time at the Tafarn Jem & it ticked all the boxes. Friendly, clean & welcoming. Food is all fresh & homemade with a vegetarian selection on request & served with a smile. We went on a Thursday which is 'Grill' night with steak, gammon,lamb & chicken options. Perfectly cooked & perfectly presented, we all came away very happy and will definitely return.

Lovely food and great customer service when we came in for a meal at short notice. Good portions and half size normal meals for the kids.

Food fantastic, and very good amounts, people very lovely and chatty, lovely homely decor, service very good. We visited on a cold dark wet night in mid-march, so the views that we know are there were not visible. Good parking. Excellent and relaxing evenings dinner out.

What a fabulous place to eat. The food is outstanding. The staff work very hard to keep this pub at this level. We had the fillet steak and chicken curry with rice. Both delicious.

We decided to visit as we were staying close by, food was lovely however if we came again it would be more suited to couples rather than family as the menu is limited in regard to what our children would eat, staff very efficient and friendly lovely restaurant area

Stopped here one evening on way to our caravan.Had the dog and he was very welcomed along with ourselves.The Pub is lovely and also the owners.The food was delicious.Will call again (and again,and again!)

We have visited Tafarn Jem regularly over the last 18 months. The food and welcome are always excellent. We always feel at home. Had the place to ourselves today as it is "out of season". Nevertheless, the food and beer were still good.

Así que fue una gran sorpresa encontrar un fantástico pub, con un servicio de primera clase, un encantador y amable bienvenida, generoso y de una buena comida de pub y una gran selección de cervezas. A veces los mejores lugares son las que dejan sin aliento, y que volveré ahora sabemos!

Encantadora posada con unas vistas impresionantes del valle. La comida es excelente! Menú tradicional y el chef hace un trabajo maravilloso. La acogida es agradable y amable y tienen dos cervezas en perfecto estado. Ojalá viviera cerca. Hemos visitado tres veces en los últimos cuatro meses y cada. Altamente recomendado.

En este pub llamamos en una noche muy húmedo y ventoso a principios de septiembre y recibió una cálida bienvenida de los habitantes y el personal. Nos ofrecieron bebidas y rápidamente nos llevaron a nuestra mesa. Ambos pedimos el especial jueves de cadera con todos los detalles que lo servían con rapidez. El bistec era ordenados media cocción y era absolutamente delicioso. Ambos teníamos la casa hizo que de nuevo los postres eran muy buenos. Cerveza local complementa una experiencia muy agradable.

Stopped off for a drink on our way home. The bar / restaurant area was clean, but a bit dated. The views of the hills and valley were fantastic. Our drinks were served well, albeit that my large glass of white wine was a small one and it wasn't very chilled. All in all a pleasant place to stop. Just to mention, well behaved dogs are welcome (a couple eating food had their 2 pets with them). All in all, a good place to visit!

We tend to go to this pub most times we drop our son off to college. The food is always well prepared. The beer is well kept.

Came for a family lunch with the husband and the toddler and it was scrummy. Decent portions, plenty of salad/veg on the side, and very friendly owners. Lovely views across the valley.

Visited late on a Sunday evening and we were lucky they were still serving food! Food was excellent and good choices on the menu! View is amazing and friendly owners, will definitely return!

We went here twice whilst staying in the area and both times the food was amazing. On our first visit I had salmon and my husband had pork stroganoff both were delicious. I had the meringue which was scrummy. We went back for the steak & sweet evening and again we were overwhelmed by the amount and the quality of the food just wished we lived nearer! Thank you

Just returned home from having a wonderful lunch at this great pub. The views from the restaurant are to be recommended, as was the food. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. The choice was amazing from Scampi Provencale to Home made faggots and mash, all reasonably priced. We highly recommend this lovely pub restaurant and can't wait to return.

Supper night, 1st Friday of each month. Choice of 3 main meals or a bit of each - last month was lamb moussaka, melt in the mouth steak pudding or vegetable curry. Never having tasted moussaka before was pleasantly surprised, suet pastry on the steak pudding was light, filled with lots of tender steak. Can't comment personally on the curry as I don't eat it but many of the customers were going back for more. Delicious food, served by lovely staff in a great setting.

Lampeter Tangent Club met here for one of our monthly meetings. It happened to be the pub's " steak and sweet night". What a treat! All 10 of us enjoyed our meals. Fantastic service, delicious meals, good atmosphere. All for £12!!My steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. The dessert was a homemade meringue with fruit - really yummy!

We visit this little Jem at least once a month from March until October. The food is delicious, beautifully presented and great value. The hosts are friendly and the service second to none. We took our granddaughters here for a meal and the portions for the girls was just right and they were able to choose from the menu. Thank you.

Tafarn Jem is conveniently located on the A482 between Pumsaint and Lampeter in West Wales. If you're looking for pub food and quick service while travelling from Llandovery, Ammanford or Llandeilo to Aberaeron or Aberystwyth, it is well worth a stop here.We called on Thursday evening when they had their 'Steak and Sweet' special menu for £12. What an excellent value for money! The steak came with chips, peas and fried tomatoes. You could choose chicken or pork instead. Then they had a choice of about five puddings. I couldn't ask for better.On top of that, the service was first class. Just a short wait for food. They serve Tetleys Smooth Bitter, therefore good beer as well. We were in and out in just over an hour. We'll definitely be back. Diolch

Just got back from having a lovely meal at the Tavern Jem. Myself and my daughter had the steak and a friend had Gammon. Everyone was really pleased with their meal. I had home made Tiramisu for dessert and that was heavenly. Would certainly recommend the Tavern Jem for food.

Very pleasant and warm reception at this rural pub/restaurant. Food was served quickly and well presented. Salmon was a delight as was my gammon! Decent real ale. Loo's were clean and functional. A delightful place and will definitely call again.

Smallish friendly pub with excellent food good value well cooked and full of flavour and great views. People in charge very friendly and welcoming Fully recommended

It was a lovely spot with fantastic views from the restaurant, down the valley. They very kindly let our dog in after we asked permission. Staff were friendly and the food was homemade. Veg especially, was cooked perfectly. The menu looked tempting, but it was just good home cooking. The advantage to Jem's over others in the area was, that it served food when you want it.

If there is 2 or 20 in your party, no worries, Dave can cope and enjoys catering on the basis 'the more the merrier' Dave's a great cook and his steaks are a legend and Lesley is an attentive and friendly 'waitress'. The meals are more than generous and the beer is well kept with some nice local brews on tap. If you've been for a long mountain tramp, or want a nice, cosy evening meal with friends and family, this is a great place to haul out.
