Castle Green in Ceredigion

This place takes you back to simpler teams. No gimmicks just got honest food. As soon as we came in we were welcomed warmly by the owners, an older couple clearly a stalwart of their local community. Initial thoughts were the decor could do with an update but once we settled in we realised that here they let the food do the talking. Huge portions and as much meat as I've ever had at a carvery and even then they offered us more. A great selection of veg and potatoes and a grand entry of cauliflower and brocolli cheese. Match this with their homemade stuffing and you're off to a flying start. After all of this they waitress still came to the table to let us know we could go up for me if we wished, however, today I wasn't up to the challenge. Once we'd finished our huge plates we moved on to desserts which were the initial draw here when my Mrs spotted this place online. They didn't disappoint, we had 3 between the 2 of us. If we ever find ourselves in the middle of Wales on a Sunday afternoon again we will defo be popping in. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment as it does get busy as its only small

The most delicious Sunday Dinner I have ever experienced, the atmosphere is immaculate as it feels akin to my Grandma’s kitchen/dining area. Brian and Mavis are very kind and can always have a good laugh and rapport with the customers. We feel a true part of the local Lampeter community when we dine here.

Absolutely lovely food, lovely staff and a lovely atmosphere. We had a table of 14 as it was my grandmothers 80th and it was no trouble at all. Owners and staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you castle green x

We were visiting the area and booked for Easter Sunday carvery. Delicious food with a choice or 4 meats or any combination. Lovely service, like being in a family home rather than a pub and our dog was welcome too. Would recommend.

Mavis and her husband are absolutely lovely people and the food was brilliant. Best carvery I’ve had and even let me go up for seconds 😋. To top it off they warmly welcomed our dogs and even gave them a goody bag to take home. We previously accidentally only rated 4 stars and trip advisor won’t let us change the score but be assured we all had a 5* experience thanks to Mavis and husband! - the Jones’

Wow what can I say. Went for an evening carvery and it was the best meal ever. 4 choices of meat and the thickest slices given . Once we had managed to finish the huge portion we were asked if we wanted more. We were really made welcome and at home. Bryan and Mavis were fantastic hosts and even cared for the dogs we brought with us -sending the dogs home with a full box of meat off cuts. Thankyou so much. We visited here as a family of 4 for a mid week carvery. The food was excellent and the couple who run the place were very friendly and welcoming with the kids. Would definitely recommend and we will be back when we are next down our caravan in Ystrad Aeron. Thanks

8 of us were away for the weekend in Tregaron and we had booked in for Sunday lunch. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to attend however we rang to see if they could do a takeaway option ! This wasn’t any trouble for Mavis! The dinner was wonderful and the meat was amazing! Hopefully will be able to return soon to eat at the restaurant instead of a takeaway but thank you Mavis for being so accommodating!!

A group of 8 of us plus 2 babies & 2 dogs were booked in for Sunday lunch as we were staying in a local cottage. Unfortunately, one of our cars broke down so we weren’t all able to make it. A quick phone all to Mavis and she arranged for us to bring our own plates from the cottage and fill them high with the most delicious roast dinners. What a fantastic place for a drink or two. Didn't try the food as it doesn't do food on a Monday. Apparently they did 145. Sunday lunches so give it a go.

Lovely hosts, great food, cool ambience!!!

A great carvery with a good selection of meats especially the welsh lamb. The homemade puddings were a hit too! The hosts couldn't have been more welcoming, so friendly, it really made the evening. We also got to try some Bara Brith that our hosts bought from their own kitchen for us to taste. A really wonderful evening that added to our family holiday!

Honestly this place is just a total Gem from the second we walked through the door the friendly cosy atmosphere is just incredible feels like home. Called to see if there was a table for 2 available for Sunday lunch and luckily there was. We had a delicious carvery, 4 different meats, all very succulent and tasty. A wide range of veg which were all delicious. Highly recommend this popular pub and the best thing was the warm welcome we had from the owners and staff. Were do i Start as soon as we walked in we were greated with a smile and 'Croeso' Mavis had time to talk to us although it was very very busy she got our drinks and took us to our table were we then ordered our Starter portion was masive then off we went to the carvery 4 Meat and then Home made Y pudd roasties parsnips and 6 vegetables/gravy The meat was cooked to perfection tasty and plenty of it then Bryan came through a few times to meet and greet inbetween cooking We felt like family having Sunday Lunch Wel recomended and i wil be returning EXCELENT

Excellent carvery with choice of 4 meats and very good variety of vegetables. We both chose the welsh lamb which was delicious and large in portionsl. To full to have pubs but there was a good choice. Service was excelent and very friendly. Please note payment by cash only. Parking 5 mins away in Sainsbury pay and dislplay. Couldn't beat this meal! What a find, thank you trip advisor for pointing this place out and no doubts as to why it has recieved 5 star reviews on here. Drinks were very well priced, but the food was absolutely amazing! The bar was very traditional and quirky and the restaurant area was very nice and clean. Staff were great and couldn't do enough for us. They even bought out water and meat for our dog without even asking! We had, what most would agree a bit of a potential disaster... Only 1 slice of chocolate cake left, but 2 children under 10 who had eyed it up! .....the staff took the conundrum upon themselves to solve and we were very kindly presented with 2 fabulous plates of (smaller) cake slices, filled with icecream and sprinkles... The children were more than happy! The Sunday dinner was absolutely gorgeous, melt in your mouth meat and considering my family live off roasties, everyone left fully satisfied (after being offered more potatoes!) couldn't fault the staff, everyone was so friendly and made us feel comfortable and well fed. If we find ourselves in the area again, there would be no hesitation to eat here again. Thank you all from the family of 7 plus 2 children!

Was recommended this place for a Sunday carvery. Did not disappoint!! Very homely comfortable atmosphere. Choice of 4 meats, we had Welsh Lamb and Beef. Plenty of vegetables and even mushy peas!!
