(5 out of 5)Service = Service was great. Not complaints. (5 out of 5)Food/Restaurant = The food was nicely flavoured but the saltiness was too much (in comparison to many similar places). The rice was very oily. The bread and salad was good. (3 out of 5)Overall Experience = For the restaurant level pricing, I would expect a bit more in terms of flavours and not an over reliance on salt. I did try this once before the Government' August 2020 'Eat Out To Help Out' incentive and it was better that time. I don't mind paying a higher price for a 'difference' whether quality or quality. (3 out of 5).

La comida aquí es una tienda de kebab bastante estándar. No lo clasificaría como un restaurante turco decente.La comida es abundante y el servicio es bueno. Lo que luego decepcionó a toda la noche fue la camarera tratando de cobrarnos de más al final de la noche. Fui ayer y comí un pollo para llevar.El pollo tenía muy poco sabor y humedad. Fue aceptable pero muy poco emocionante. Por lo general, no me molestaría en escribir una reseña para un bocado rápido, pero fue durante Covid - 19 y se suponía que comer alimentos que no había cocinado yo mismo era un placer.El servicio fue mediocre.En general, una experiencia nada especial. Hay mejores restaurantes turcos en Mare Street, no te molestes en este.

Looks like it has been renovated recently - nice interior and delicious food. I had prawn stew, my partner had whole sea bream, and our friend had jumbo prawn kebab. All super fresh and really delicious. Nice tea and Baklava too!

Had the lunch deal which I think is £9.50 so a main and a drink . Mine was looked like it was cooked a day or two ago - had to send it back . The replacement one was better but didn’t look that fresh. Rice was overcooked . Salad, chilli sauce and bread was nice . Maybe the chef didn’t have a great day . The restaurant also needs to ensure food is fresh and cooked on the day !!

Estuve allí con mi novio y salí sin cenar. Tienen una hamburguesa en el menú, pero no estaba disponible, pedimos otras cosas, pero fue terrible y cualquiera vino a preguntarnos si estaba bien. También para pagar tenemos que llamar al personal muchas veces. Lugar para no ir si quieres disfrutar de tu cena! ! !

Visitata Londra a febbraio, con amici del posto abbiamo pranzato in questo ottimo ristorante, pietanze molto varie e particolari gustate appieno, prezzi modici e personale cortese e attento.

Our friend recomend us here so we walk a mile to the place but when we arrive after we sat on the table we asked to order take away because 22:15 it’s late even when the website say it close at 00:00. Took our food out but still very confusing about what’s extra price and whats not.

Never had a turkish pizza before but thoroughly enjoyed it. An extensive choice on the menu. My wife was very pleased with her lamb kebab. The staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Been here with work colleagues time and time again over the years And if we went back it means that it was good enough for us to keep it as an option however, the service is now terrible , the food comes late , cold and not as expected The staff don’t even try to apologise or explain

Had an absolutely terrible experience with this restaurant and would advise never to use. Ordered meals online Rice was missing from both meals that had been pre paid for. I telephoned to say some of my order was missing to firstly be told I was not supposed to get rice as it was an online order. Then apologized and said I was right I should of received rice, to be told next time I am in the area to pop in a get it, I demanded it now as I had guests and had paid for it to be told , he didn't know why I was making such a big fuss over a bit of rice! Appalling attitude to a paying customer after you the restaurant have made the mistake. I run and manage a business I could never take that attitude towards a customer esp if I/my company was at fault. What they need to remember is its us customers that pay your wages. !!!!

Arrived at 7pm Friday evening the place was dead,got seated ordered our food and drinks,they put some salad and bread on our table which looked like it had seen better day then the main food came out well we have eaten here many times before and the food has always been hot and loads of it,my god not the case this time,chicken cooked to death dry as a old bone horrible,rice very oily tasteless really bad,then on top of that we sit with the dirty plates on our table for 25 mins and had to ask them to remove them ,this place use to be great what the hell happened to it sorry we never be going back ever.

Nothing is too much trouble for their customers ,we go on every family occasion and always made very welcome . See you next Sunday for Mother's Day

We went here mid week about 5.30 and it was empty. This place is the obvious choice as it's up the road from where we work. It was my colleague's leaving do and there were about 8 of us. Some ordered chicken, some lamb and I had Lahmacun. They give you warm bread, salad and dressing to start with which is soooo yummy. My Lahmacun was nice. Everyone enjoyed their food. The waiters were friendly and cracking jokes and more importantly the service was excellent. The prices here are reasonable too. I will be going here again for a take away Lahmacun. You should too!!!!!

I feel so disrespected really poor customer services I came for dinner with family when we got their it was practically empty once we sat to eat the resturant started getting packed we had just finished eating we hadn't finished our drinks and my daughter was still eating they came over to our table and started taking our plates and drinks saying they had people waiting so we had to get up I got up payed and left never going there again so angry

No había pan o ensalada dado mientras espera. Orden llevó más tiempo de lo previsto, nos ignoraron totalmente. Los dos camareros en un punto se levantó mirando nosotros y riendo. Sentía que no podía ser molestado el servicio fue extremadamente decepcionante. No volveremos a comer allí de nuevo.

The food was really good. Nice freshly grilled chicken and lamb. We tried both the shish and dona kebabs. Rice was super nice. the staff were very helpful and nice.

Reallly I'm not surprises with this place, they are exceptional with everything from start to finish.

Went here with a medium sized group- looked like classic good quality Turkish fare. Unfortunately service was terrible- initially an order was missed which they tried to blame on us for making a late order (we did not). After being assured the order was on...

Just had my meal here with my family, service was ok, food was ok, everything was ok..i wouldnt rush coming back, very obvious it was short staff but they just dont look very happy :/

What an awful experience, came for a nice meal with my husband, but the staff are extremely rude, don't talk to you, ignore you, rush you in and out, take your plate without asking. Pepper was in salt pot and salt in pepper pot, not impressed that I ended up with pepper on my dinner when I can't stand it, dried pea in rice, chipped dishes. Just an absolute awful experience.

Really quite ordinary Turkish food. Service was rapid, prices not too bad, portions fine. Every dish was fine, nothing special, bland and filling. Falafel were dry, bland. Tasted like packet falafel. Stuffed Vine leaves were wet, mushy, bland. Chicken shish was fine. Bread seemed fresh, not especially tasty. The contrast with my local, Numara Bos Cirrik, could hardly be stronger. One example: there, the bread is spectacular, grilled over the wood barbecue with flavour from the meat you've ordered. Tad had the merit of being cheap and quick and filling and convenient for where we were on a rainy day.

The food here was nice but the service is absolutely poor. No greeting as we entered, no one asked if we were okay and had everything we needed, everyone stood around with their arms folded. As we left no one said anything not even a thank you or bye. I will not be going here again its a shame because the food was actually nice. My advice get some customer service training!

Food was great but some of the staff clearly don't want to be there. No response to any conversation and just generally rude. It's a shame because we really enjoyed the food.

Very disappointed. The portions were small and they charge you extra for rice! This is usually standard with any meal but not here. The price is quite dear and they really to scrape with the quality the meat it was dry and bland. This was not worth what we paid and we won't be going again. The staff were also quite rude not a good experience.

Food looks tired, salads are not fresh. And the stuff is just not helpful and nice to customers at all. I don't like this attitude! I know so many good Turkish restaurants but this one is the worst I've ever went here in London! And if you want to pay woth card the spend minimum is £10 !!! Otherwise they will charge you 50p ... Which I really don't mind to pay 50p extra but never faced this in other Turkish restaurant ...

Went few times amazing food, love the mix maze and mix kebab. But the service not always is good. sometimes they forget to take orders or during payment they use the contactless without asking it.

Have been coming to this restaurant for manny years now,often get take away food as their kebabs are amazing but decided to eat in, it was very quiet and staff were smiling and willing to help, the food was good, and bread was made fresh which was a nice touch, will be coming back very soon

I came here with 3 friend's and we were seated very quickly . You get the lovely bread with a big portion of salad to start . The bread is verry good and fresh . The staff are always friendly and i have never issues with them .For sure I will go again

We had a family dinner there. Choose mixed doner, lamb shish and falafel. Food was not bad, but it really needed more aroma, spices etc. The fact is that 2 of us felt terrible stomach ache later. THE STUFF - not friendly, one of them looked drunk (and was drinking during work), made a mistake with our orders and act really like jerkThe food was quite expensive - comparing with quality - too exprensive! Best meat i had in a while. Havent visited hackney for a long time, its changed a lot, my friend took us out to Tad, food was great, staff where kind, service was excellent and the price was just right. I recommend the aubergine and kofte roll, most szilling taste.

I had family visited me over Christmas and stayed over, they ate at Tad on boxing day and kept wanted to go back, I haven't had so much grill for a while but it was worth it; as the owners are generous and kind, the staff were great every time and the food was excellent. Thank you Tad

Booked a table for 12 to gather a few friends. Generous servings as most of my friends ended up taking their food home as they couldn't finish their plates but it lacked taste a little bit. Service was fine and Turkish tea was on the house but still, we found it a bit expensive.

Went dinner with my friends. The dinner was okay but very disappointed by the service.- it took 10 mins until the waiter came to our table for order- one of the starters didn't arrive- extra wine and beer included in the bill. (When we pointed out, no apologies at all and came back with a wrong bill again!)- it took another 10 mins until the waiter came with a credit card machine.Personally I think there are a lot of better Turkish restaurants in London. I will never go back there.

Service is impeccable, food is the nicest despite a lot of local competeition! The best place you can go for chicken wrap, humus and beer on Mare street! (my only complaint is the that the efes was warm and had quite a massive head on it!) still my favouritte place though!

I work nearby and have wanted to go here for ages so arranged this meal with mates over half term. I love Hackney cos there's lots of places to eat and I love Turkish food. I've ordered a Turkish pizza in the past from here in my lunch hour but the staff aren't the quickest. The place wasn't busy at 12 noon and I tried to get some advice from the waiter re: what to order but he wasn't keen on helping. He kept pushing for the specials of the day. I had the chicken special £6.50 which was delicious with veg in it and lots of sauce. You also get rice and salad with it. The salad had way too much lemon in it and it tasted so tangy I only had a bit. The portion size is more than enough for one person. We asked for extra gherkin and the waiter didn't know what we meant. Staff need to improve their customer service and English. My mates had lamb and loved it. I'll go here again as the food is just sooooo yummy........

My office usually visits Tad on a Friday for our work lunch. Never had one bad experience with the food or service. It can be pretty hectic during the lunch time rush, especially if you're taking away but don't let that put you off. The food is amazing!

Went for a birthday meal on Sunday. Food was varied and cooked to perfection. Sea Bass is brilliant. Well worth the money.

Must try place, I have been coming to this place since 2012 and it's perfect for family and friends. The food is delicious and the waiting is great.

Mare Street in Hackney is an area in transition. No longer is it a drab, slightly desolate road that cuts through the borough from Cambridge Heath Road heading north. With the Hackney Empire Theatre lying at the peak, Cambridge Heath Road is home to many varied restaurants. We chose to eat at Tad after seeing a show and found it to be a spacious venue with a friendly welcome offering a very varied menu although mostly Turkish based. Out of four of us, two chose a set menu1 which comprised of a cold meze to start with a large plate of varied meat to follow. The lamb chops were particularly succulent and tasty and were served on a bed of rice.Really nice food and well worth the money.

I love it. I come here all the time. Amazing lamb spare ribs, lamb casserole etc. It's simple, cheap and no frills decor. Much better than the one just up the road (sorry Anatolia)!

Absolutely beautiful turkish food, very welcoming, just a shame that the grill was out of order, so I was unable to have my beloved Lamb Beyti, but their substitute lamb was amazing, highly recommended and reasonable too x

Im a regular here for all the right reasons. Great staff, knowledgeable and always happy to swop out ingredients for a picky one like me! Great selection of classic turkish dishes. The specials change often and are always worth selecting.Individually handmade freshly rolled pizza bases help make their Pide just delicious. I find it hard to move away from ordering it every time. Plus it is accompanied with a delicious Efes on tap.

I went here midweek in the early evening and the place was filling up.It looks very unassuming from the street, but if you have travelled Turkey or The Balkan countries you may just recognise it as an authentic place. Starters of caramelised liver and of sucuk sausages were huge and tasty and you get the obligatory, but tasty side salad and the chargrilled onions. Mains were 2 types of yoghourt kebabs and were really beautifully prepared and as good as anything i've eaten in Istanbul.Highly recommended and the Romanian waitress was polite and funny too.

Been here with friends before for lunch and it was always decent. However, this time came for dinner and it was one of the worst Turkish restaurant experience. Rubbish service followed by mediocre food. The bread was cold and stale, didn't offer any salad and the mains were just eadable because we were hungry . There are so many Turkish restaurants nowadays.....avoid this one for sure.

A friend and I happened upon this restaurant by chance, as it was less than 5 minutes walk from the Hackney Empire. Having had a quick look at the extensive menu, and the prices, it was clear it satisfied both our dietary requirements.As you walk in there is a large glass L shaped counter displaying numerous fresh looking salads and various uncooked meats. Probably not very hygienic! The restaurant is very large and the decor is somewhat low-end cafe style.The place was fairly empty and we were immediately given a choice of table. Menus were brought quickly and our drinks order taken. The menu had enough choice to satisfy meat and fish eaters, and also vegans, and none of the main courses was more than £14.00.My friend ordered minced lamb on a skewer, I ordered grilled seabass, with salad instead of the usual rice (no argument and no extra charge).We started with a portion of humus and buckwheat salad, both which were sufficient for two people and very good. They were served with Turkish flat bread, which was cold.Before the main courses were brought out, two good size salads, a bowl of onions in pomegranate juice and a bowl of onions were brought out. These were all complementary and very good. Our main courses followed shortly.My friend described her lamb as ‘excellent’. It was served with rice and what looked like buckwheat. The portions were very generous. My seabass was good, though slightly overcooked and the accompanying salad was enormous.The waitresses were polite and smiling and provided efficient service including changing our napkins (paper) after the first course.The bill for two with sparkling water was just under £34, which, for the quantity and quality, I consider very reasonable.One final word – I have read some of the reviews of this restaurant where people complain about surly, rude staff who do not speak English, and bad service. Our experience was the total opposite.I would go back if I wanted a reasonable meal in that area.The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but I did not check accessibility of the lavatory.

For what you would pay for a meal for 4 to be isn't usually a complete table filled with many dishes (so there is hardly enough space left for your drinks!), but that is what you should expect at Tad, for under £50.00 for full sized people full to bursting point with drinks included in that price!Don't be mistaken this is not a fine dinning atmosphere, its a Bistro, its street food but the environment is well laid out, lots of space, not overlooked, very clean.I recommend the Halep kebab, it is cooked exactly as it would be in Turkey, falaphel, lamachin, and everything on the desert menu is a must try, all food is fresh, you can tell it is even if you don't look over the bar style counter at all the fresh ingredients.Prices are very good for what you get, yes they also do take away too!Friendly staff and great chefs.Parking may be difficult as this area is all bus lanes and permit holders only but these restrictions only fall in the hours as sign posted, you may find a space on another street but leaving your sat nav on display in your locked vehicle is strongly not advised!All in all an excellent eatery!!!

Food was tasty. Russian salad was a bit small. We thought it was slightly overpriced. The staff wasn't really that welcoming. They were not horrible at all but lacking a smile and a bit of personality. Maybe it was coming to the end of their shift but the food was tasty.

Me, my wife and daughter had an acceptable meal including two main course chicken dishes and a lamb dish only. We also had a bottle of wine. We also "enjoyed" sitting out on a featureless but busy London road for the duration. We definitely did not enjoy the £70+ bill presented to us an hour later. £70??? For less than a pound of meat and a bog-standard bottle of wine? Give yer 'ed a shake Taz! Get real.

My daughter I visited TAD (3/7/2015) being weekend she booked us a table for 2. The place was quite busy and sat to a small table! The food was good when arrived and good portion but certainly the service was poor despite the fact that there were 3 or 4 waiters. We were half through our starter when the main food came in! The waitress do not appreciate that you need to check if the customer has finished one course before just putting another dish on the table! Very poor service and lack of coordination and when asked for a spoon we had to wait for a while and remind her because the waitress forgotten us!

As soon as me and my wife entered the restaurant we where waiting ages to be seated although the restaurant was not busy. We eventually got seated and where not given menus. It took me 10 minutes to get the attention of one of the waitress who eventually got us two menus. The waitress's are so stuck up and rude not a smile, not a hello and not even an apology. Food was ok but nothing amazing. I would not come here again.

Certainly not one of the best Turkish joints in London. But the food was authentic and it is well priced. The portions are generous and the staff are kind enough. Everything is simply Average.

They do prepare food for functions or parties…. Well they say they do…. Getting hold of the manager it is a nightmare, most of the staff don’t speak English well enough to organise an event over the phone. They are completely unreliable, itemised bill was just a scribble with not detail information. I would not bother with them and their attitude.

We dined here for an early Sunday lunch and we were very please we came. It was fairly quite, but it was early. We enjoyed the food that we ordered and the service by the waitress was excellent. We had a toddler in tow and it proved to be a child friendly restaurant. The starters are quite generous, so take this into account when ordering your main meal. We found the house red wine to be very good indeed.The only downside we found was that the toilets did not have baby changing facilities!! Lets hope they get some.

We went pre concert. The restaurant was almost empty and very cold. The staff were very surly and barely even greeted us. They got our order wrong by missing out a dish and then putting it on the bill anyway.The food itself was ok but ive had far better Turkish food elsewhere.I wouldnt advise making a specific trip to eat there but if passing after a few beers then might be worth popping in for a kebab.

Impressive menu, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. It's a popular restaurant and so gets very busy, despite this the staff are friendly and efficient. Only downside was the tables are rather squashed together so we felt rather jammed in.

Tad is my number one for Turkish food - their waiting staff are always friendly and good on service and I think their standard of food is the best in the area. Always visit this place over the rest normally have lamb beyti or the falafel with a mixed mezze shared and it's always great. Comes with salad and rice so you get a great full meal. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting turkish and not sure which spot to eat at.

Went to tad last month with a group, it was my friends girlfriends birthday, i have become a regular now, the staff are very welcoming, considering its very busy in the evenings you can be assured the food arrives on time and the taste is always delicious, I use to goto Anatolia but I have not be there for over a month now, the service and the food at Tad is better. I would recommended it to anyone with family and for parties.

I've been to tad a few times were erveything was good, as time went by the service was getting worse n worse, the waiters and waitresses got really bad attitude, they are so rude when seating you down and even when taking the order, I went in for chicken donner which they didn't have at lunch time so I ordered lamb donner instead, my partner ordered land kofte (adanna) and they bring a lamb batik with yogurt on top which they tried to convince us it's the one we ordered but we know out food, the then changed it but by the time they changed it and brough the food over I've finished mine, no apology for the wrong order and it's the worst experience I've ever had and wont be recomend this place and won't ever go back to eat,

My wife and I have been coming to Tad for years, it's a tradition before or after attending the Picturehouse cinema across the road. Last night was so awefull that we have decided not to go back. The service is never great to be honest but that's not why we come, however our waiter and waitress were particularly rude and arrogant on this occasion. my wife ordered the Salmon steak, a dish she has every time and this occasion they presented her with the tail of the salmon which had very little meat and did not taste fresh. They did not protest too much when we informed them although there was no apology at all. They brought me lamb instead of chicken and the told me it would be another 20 minutes to get the chicken. They did offer a shish chicken straight away for both of us which we took. It was quite an underwhelming dish and dry as a bone. I had to wait 10 minutes and ask 3 different waiters to finally get some garlic and chilli sauce which was no more than 2 tablespoons. They also took forever to bring us a salad. For desert we had Baklava which was just one type and wet, total rubbish. And the worse part is the waitress rolled her eyes after we ordered it. I don't know what's happened to this place over the last couple of months but it's really gone downhill and I would not recommend it anymore.

The expansive menu at Tad can appear at first intimidating to the average restaurant goer such as myself. For one to distinguish between kulbasti and bobrek it takes a few reads of the menu. However once you crack it the place is the best place for quick eats in the area. Welcomed by some of the friendliest Turks I've ever met (i grew up with a Turkish family) even the most intoxicated of visitors will get their food with the minimum of fuss. Try the lamb beyt, wrapped up, and find yourself in here more than racists in Ukip.

Our London local and it seems to be having a renaissance. A couple of years ago it was mediocre, now food is really good and even vegetarian options are excellent. Nice busy buzz in the evening with friendly helpful service.

We're regular visitors to this fantastic restaurant. As an avid Turkish food diner I find this serve the best Turkish food in hackney. Staff with personality, food with flavour and an atmosphere to match. Never ever disappointed.

We have not visited this area before and came across this restaurant by walking past. The food was very good and the prices quite reasonable. Will certainly be re-revisiting when next in the area.Recommend before or after a show at the Hackney Empire.

We went to the Tad after going to the Hackney EmpireThe food was tasty, but it wasn't out standing, the salads were shared between the table and there could have been more. To be fair they did bring extra bread on request, but the bread was a little soggy on the bottom, I've had it nicer at other Turkish restaurants. A friend said his Lamb was overcooked.

Wow - what a gem! Just down from the Hackney Empire and serving beautifully cooked, well presented and authentic turkish specialities for a few quid! We didn't order a started but they brought us a complimentary one anyway and the bread was to die for!

Go when you're hungry. The mixed grill for 2 is amazing. When it's warm they put tables outside. Good service too.

I went here with my boyfriend for the first time on the 12th July 2014. As we walked in we were taken to our table and they just put the menus on the table without even saying a word. I didn't want to seem fussy so didn't say anything. Then we waiting exactly 20 minutes for someone to come over to us to order a food, they didn't even acknowledge us my boyfriend had to go to the front to call someone over to tell them that we are ready to order. Food wasn't so amazing but edible, the rice was rather cold and the meat and chicken seemed a little on the raw side but still didn't want to make a fuss. After we had finished our meal, we waited for 20 minutes again to ask for the bill, by now I was so frustrated and angry that the service was so slow! The staff were more concerned about the World Cup playing and talkig to customers which were friends I'm assuming cos they kept going over to make jokes and laugh. When a staff come over to us finally I told him I didn't like the service and that we waited 20 minutes for anyone to approach us and to bring our bill but he walked off without apologising or saying a word. Basically I was talking to myself because I was ignored and quite offended! As me and my boyfriend walked out the restaurant the waiter that ignored me started to scream 'byeeeeeee' in a very sarcastic way! I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again! Worse service and not so great food! If you are local, go to Anatolia couple shops down, service and food is a lot better!

I went to Tad yesterday for a big family meal. We reserved the tables weeks ago, whereas when we got there the waiter had said half of our table was not reserved even though we had reserved it weeks ago. When it came to ordering drinks, the guy who took the order, took forever bringing the drinks; we ended up going to the bar and taking them ourselves. Because there were so many of us they couldnt cope. They knew we were coming as we were booked for weeks so why couldnt they get more staff and be more prepared. They had 3 waiters inwhich only one of them helped clear off the table after being asked to twice, although we did practically cleared it ourselfs. The food wasnt great, just typical turkish food. The humous was rotten. Service was really slow. The bill was way too exspensive just for something we would buy on our local turkish resturant for half the price and better service and food. I would NOT recommend this resturant at all.

Lovely, just lovely. Really nice well cooked and prepared food, tasty, lots of it and lots of little extras that added up the tastes. And lovely friendly, smiley service. They even sorted me out a delectable selection of doggy bags which made a lovely lunch the next day. Football on the telly should you keep your date waiting and nicely lit outlook over Mare Street. Not to be sniffed at these days in Hackney. All in all, this is my No 1 Turkish in the area now, by a long shot.

We've been a few times and the food has been ok but this time as I was picking my way through the onion salad I came across 4 chewed olive stones. I returned the salad to a very audible tut from a waiter. Then to my astonishment I found a pubic hair in my rice. We had not apologies from the staff.I would not recommend this place and would say its a health hazard.

The restaurant was full and we went as a large group of 16. We had been promised that it was the best Turkish restaurant in town by our foodie friends who were part of the group. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I weren't that impressed. It could be perhaps that we were in a very large group, but we thought the food lacked a bit of flavour and the meat was slightly overdone. We have definitely been to better Turkish restaurants in London. The service was ok but wasn't great, we had to wait a long time for drinks and sometimes had to remind them or repeat the order. On the plus side, I am not a very big bread fan but I found their flat bread to be very delicious. I think to give a fair review we would have to go back as a couple rather than a big group. In conclusion, we had a nice average meal but wouldn't rave about it.
