Tad Cod in Powys

Lovely, super, fantastic. Service was amazing lady was so friendly and welcoming. Tables outside. Food was lovely and hot and very tasty. Would recommend the Chinese curry sauce.

We phoned and ordered take away cod and chips which was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff are friendly also.

Visited today for traditional fish and chips and was absolutely blown away by the freshness it was the best fish I can remember having lovely friendly service all perfect can't recommend highly enough

Mince beef pie over and overcooked (first one was still cold so sent back}. Chips undercooked and dry but wasn't prepared to pay extortionate price for two servings of gravy. Won't be going back. Dreadful!

Picked up a takeaway from here whilst staying in Brecon in September. Very clean, friendly staff, quick service, well priced, great chips. Don't need anymore from a chippy!

Had a takeaway from here and they practically had nothing available, no sauces/ gravy and limited food options. I managed to select a meal and when I received it the chips were undercooked

My boyfriend and I come to Tad Cod all the time! We have nearly had everything off the menu and NOTHING has disappointed! The food is to die for and the customer service couldn’t be any better!

The best fish and chip experience I have ever had! I'm here on a little holiday and as we were walking up the high street, we smelt heaven and followed it. Really safe and clear social distancing measures in place so we could relax and enjoy our food whilst feeling as safe as possible! The staff were really friendly and accommodating, especially considering how busy it was! As for the food... it was THE BEST FOOD EVER! The batter was light and crispy and the chips were the just incredible! The quality of food is amazing and we all highly recommend! Thank you Tad Cod!

Currently on holiday in Brecon, went this chip shop last night and from start to end it was disappointing. For 3 portions of chips it took nearly 45 minutes, when we got back to the house the cheesy chips had a thick long black hair right in the middle, and a dead fly. It was absolutely disgusting. We will never return.

Went at get some chip for tea, system in place due to covid not really clear. But order taken and then asked to wait outside, pleased it was not raining. After about 20mins my number was called. Walked back to my accommodation and unwrapped my bag of disappointment. . Sausage was ok but the chips were undercooked,pale and mashed together , offered one to my dog who turn her nose up. On a positive the sausage was great

The sell of fish and chips wafted into the air and we were caught. Didn’t really need any but couldn't resist a bag of freshly cooked chips and a battered sausage!

Didn’t mind the wait for it to be cooked. Overall the cod and chips were just average. Staff were pleasant.

Good chips but we visited when it was busy and they weren't as well done as I'd have liked. Big queue, so I'm sure it was a one off. Great curry sauce.

Went to Tad Cod today after having chips previously in Brecon Fish Bar. That place was disgusting.The food was fresh and tasty. I had pie and chips and my husband had Irish curry sauce and chips. The pie was delish with a good filling. The curry sauce was a good consistency. Not too thick or too runny. Chips lovely. Even the vinegar was spot on!We will definitely go back....well done Tad Cod!

Went to Tad Cod on Friday, first time since lock down and the restrictions lifted. OMG we wasn’t disappointed it was absolutely delicious, the Cod was cooked to perfection with the most amazing batter, we had as always their homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas, they should win awards for it!! My daughter had the Cod fingers and she ate every single one, in fact she wanted to go back for more! But the queues were quite big outside their shop and I can perfectly understand why, it is the BEST PLACE TO GET FISH AND CHIPS. Thank you Tad Cod we will see you again soon.

Myself and my wife went for a trip out to Brecon for the day as the restrictions have now been lifted. As we walked through the town we saw quiet a few people waiting out side a shop. As we got nearer we realised it was TAD COD a fish & chip shop. We spoke to a lovely couple who were waiting outside and they said it was the best fish & chip shop in Brecon ( they travel from a town called Risca which is a good hour away just for the fish & chips) you have to wait about 10 minutes for your food as they cook everything fresh, which we thought was good as you never know how long fish has been sat in those warmers for sometimes. The couple recommended that we ordered while we were there so we could just collect it when we wanted. So we went and order and asked if we could come back in about 1 hour. The very friendly lady behind the counter who we spoke to apologised and said she had quite a lot of orders for 6, would it be possible if we came back at about 6:15 which we were happy to oblige as we could see how busy they were. So I ordered a large cod & chips and my wife went for the posh cod finger butty.On returning we went in to let them know we were back and we were told our order was ready (At which we were surprised as it was still busy outside). We went and sat on a bench just over the road from TAD COD and OH MY GOD we can see why it’s the best fish & chip shop In town. The fish was cooked to perfection the fish just crumbled as we ate it and the batter was the best I have ever tasted.My wife’s butty was amazing too we didn’t realise the tartare sauce was home made until we saw it in my wife’s butty so I popped back over and bought some to have with my fish ( it was to die for). What can I say about the chips. Well just exquisite, crispy on the outside and lovely and soft in the middle, by far the best I have had in a while or even ever. Thank you TAD COD for helping us have a great day in Brecon. We will definitely be back.

After 4 months of shielding and now being able to travel outside of the 5 mile rule, my husband and I decided to travel from Swansea to pay our favourite fish and chip shop a visit.I can’t even begin to tell you how much we have been looking forward to this day !We are regulars and travel all the way from Swansea as it’s such a delicious treat.We phoned through our order which was going to take ten minutes to cook, we ordered our favourite cod fingers and chips. When we arrived they weren’t ready so waited in the car as I’m still having to shield, they took and extra ten minutes which was done because they are usually worth the wait.We drove to besides the canal where we sat and tucked into our meal.When we opened the bags the chips looked dark and crispy and tasted terrible. They were very overcooked to start with and the cod fingers were also overcooked. The batter was so crunchy and the fish inside overcooked too.We are as much of the fish as we could but ended up leaving the chips.. they were barely edible ! If it wasn’t for the fact we have to limit contact with anyone I would have gone back and complained.We have previously left such glowing reviews and know the standard that Tad Cod are capable of. They never failed to disappoint but this time they were dreadful and I have to say it’s such a shame. We couldn’t even share it with our toddler as it was all too crunchy for her.Such a wasted trip and left feeling extremely disappointed and won’t be returning unfortunately.There were people waiting outside and I can only suggest that they were inundated with orders but at the cost of the quality of the food and as a result will now have lost a customer.

Had take away fish and chips last night ...really great thank you ......we have eaten in the restaurant before lock down and it was also really nice ...we will be. Back .

Fab fish and chips cant fault the service and the food been going weekly since they reopened after lock down. Social distancing and hand sanitizer all available. Everyone is lovely cant do enough for you, as for the fish and chips totally amazing. Thank you everyone at Tad Cod.

I visited Tad Cod on Friday and I have to say it was the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time!The cod was freshly cooked, the batter was so light and crispy and the chips were absolutely gorgeous not at all greasy!Good value for moneyWill definitely be back!

My children picked up a fish supper for Friday night The chips were saturated in oil and quite dark very mushy texture not appetising ,the fish cake was of poor quality very flat and a dense texture ,threw it in the bin ,and the fish we had assuming it was cod was swimming in grease ,my daughter had three pieces of chicken (chicken tenders)they were fine but cost £3.50 for 3 tiny pieces the equivalent of mc Donald’s chicken nugget size ,we have eaten here a few times when they opened but clearly it has gone down hill fast ,a shame as brecon is quite small and we like to support local businesses

How hard can it be to get chips right?! Worst chips I’ve ever had. Truly. Brown and slimy. Tasteless curry sauce too. So disappointed. Sorry Tad Cod, but we’ll never be back.

My wife purchased fish and chips for me and her father one Saturday in early December, the resulting take away was overcooked, saturated in grease and inedible. She paid £13 for a meal that went straight to the bin. She described the service as 'surly' , and added that a male staff member of staff went out for a cigarette mid way through cooking! The early optimism of August has evaporated and Brecon is back to its hit and miss take away fare

Tad Cod have a very good reputation in the area so my partner and I had to check it out! We definitely will be back!! It was faultless... generously sized freshly cooked cod and crispy chips. It was very tasty! Staff we lovely and friendly and our dogs were warmly welcomed in the restaurant and even given dog biscuits, this was a nice touch. The restaurant was very clean and is open in the evenings making it a perfect place for dinner. Looking forward to our next visit.

Takeaway, large cod & large chips. Cod was cooked fresh & was wonderful. Chips were excellent and very plentiful. £7.30 in total. Excellent food, hot fresh & very good value.

Called here on a visit to brecon. Only went in because we couldn't find anywhere else and it was dog friendly.

Usually chippy menu we had ours to eat out in the town square but you can sit in. Food was nice and would call again.

During a stay in Brecon we had food from Tad Cod which was 3 bags of chips, 2 portions of chicken & piece of fish. There was nore than enough chips for 3 of us & we did not eat all the chips as there was too much but they were the nicest chips we had tasted for a while. The chicken was lovely & so was the fish. When we return to Brecon we will definately order from Tad Cod again.

I was so pleased to learn about a new chippy in Brecon, and do my best to support local businesses- unfortunately I had a really awful experience here. The chips were so burnt and soggy, filled with grease. I took them home, and my friend said he could smell something burning (it was the burnt chips) so I ventured back and was told it was the type of chip and there was nothing wrong with them. I get that in hospitality it's impossible to get everything right but I was not even offered a refund or a different batch and was sniggered out of the shop. Won't be back - a great shame.

We ate in the restaurant. When I ordered at the counter the waitress seemed to mishear everything I asked for (quite annoying). We then had to wait about 15-20mins for food (which is quite a while considering it's a chip shop). The cod bites were the only thing that were nice. The mushy peas had hard shell bits (not entirely mushy). As for the chips, they were brown and poor quality potatoes. Surely a chip shop of all places only need to specialise in one thing (chips) and they can't even get that right. Would not recommend!

Moored our hired narrow boat in Brecon Basin after long days cruisingand poor weather and asked a local for recommendation for good fish and chips.

We both had large cod and chips to takeaway, the fish is freshly cooked so we had a 5 minute wait which was fine. The cod was very nice, big chunks and well cooked, the batter was tasty and not too thick but could have been a bit crispier. The chips weren’t nice, they were very greasy, soft and mushy and cut so small they were mostly bits. Shame to be let down by the absolute basics. I’d have rated 4 for the fish and a 1 for the chips

We am from the Midlands so we know a decent fish and chips ! And can say we was not disappointed absolutely beautiful food. Staff was very friendly I would go back to brecon again for the chip shop!! Amazing Irish curry sauce.. Recommended

Soggy, greasy, soft, cold. Somehow over cooked and yet undercooked at the same time. The photo says it all. Honestly, the worst chips I've ever had. These should not have been served to customers.

We hadn’t been to Brecon town centre before and fancied something quick to eat. Not being a fan of chip shop chips as I always prefer my own deep fried version, we ordered the cod fingers and chips.

Being local to the area, fish n' chips has been a Hobson's choice over the years, so when my daughter told me she had shared cod and chips with her friend from the new chippie', and that she was duly impressed, I took note. The following week I was left to my own devices, so I took the opportunity to try their fare. I decided to eat in and ordered the large cod and chips and tea, the food arrived ten minutes later - a large battered cod and a mountain of chips! The fish and batter where delicious and the chips better than their competition, the mug of tea the perfect traditional accompaniment ! The staff where amiable and industrious, and the restaurant area, though small was clean and pleasant. I said this seems a traditional chippie - closed on Monday, early evening closing and quality food, long may it continue.

They were very clean and efficient they cooked our order while we waited the chips were what we call real chips like fish shops used to cook and the fish was beautiful huge chunks of cod fish you had to physically chew not tiny flaked cod real chunks like old fashioned chip shops used to make , I would defiantly buy from here again a gastro pleasure and I would recommend people try it for themselves I don't think they will be disapointed

Ordered takeout fish and chips about 7pm one saturday night in March 19. Staff were very pleasant and polite, you order and pay, then your food is cooked to order - usually a good sign. Cod was skinny and consequently overcooked, batter was ok, nothing special, Chips were cut too thin for my taste and contained lots of scraps for the bin. Brecon is not the best place to want fish and chips and this is certainly not the worst chip shop in town.

We were so impressed with Tad Cod! We've had a takeaway here and also had a sit down meal in the café. It's lovely inside - really clean too. The people and owners who work there are also very friendly. I've never been that keen on fish and chips as it is often dry. However, Tad Cod fish and chips were incredible, I don't know how they make batter like that, it was so tasty! The chips are proper home made chips too. Thank you so much, you should all be proud of yourselves!

Freshly cooked fish, well worth the short wait to have it straight out of the fryer. Light crisp batter, added bonus fresh chips and homemade tartar sauce.
