Silver Fish Chip Shop and Restaurant in Powys

Couldn’t be bothered to cook so of to the local chippy one where you can eat in. So arrived at the Silverfish plenty of seating to choose from we had the three grandchildren with us. 2kids beef burgers and chips 2 scampi and chips one haddock and chips plus curry sce. Kids enjoyed burgers couldn’t manage all the chips The scampi’s were a generous portion and enjoyed. I had the cod and chips with curry sauce it tasted great compared to some the rubbish at home bread and butter was great and the chip butty tasted great. The prices were fair and all enjoyed the food. There’s something on the menu for all the family give it a go

Horrible I ordered chicken strips and I was given a disgusting looking parcel, the nice crispy chicken was covered with mix of sauces. Whole evening was ruined. Not very clear when they take your order and the kids chips was smelling maybe fried on the same oil as other food. If you have allergic with sea food I advise not to visit as they have one oil for everything.

I always enjoy my fish and chips from here. Lovely staff and lots of them - you never have to wait too long. The menu is extensive and you can dine in or takeaway. The prices are the best in town. The chips are not greasy they are fat and crisp with softer ones at the bottom! The portion sizes are generous. Totally yummy! Highly recommend. - no photos for this they never last long enough! I always have the cod - it’s bang on every time 😊

Very disappointed to be told the only table I could sit at was the one next to the door because I had a guide dog!!! It was 7 o’clock at night on a windy night and the door was propped open The restaurant was very quiet and there was plenty of room but the owner said they did not allow dogs. I explained she was a registered guide dog and she was braking the law but she said she didn’t care and I could not sit in the restaurant. I was left feeling very upset and embarrassed. Can’t believe in 2023 disabled people are treated like a second class citizen

We were looking forward to our fish and chip lunch having just traveled 80 odd miles to stay near by for a few days. However we were very dissapointed with this establishment.The staff were very rude and not very inviting. The tables were sticky as if they had not been properly cleaned in ages. I had to visit the bathroom before ordering, It was just about passable but needs updating. The meal itself, cod and chips was very greasy , too much batter on the fish and the chips tasted as if they had been re-cooked. Considering fish and chips is not a cheap meal these days this came to £18 with a cup of tea each tea was like dishwater, i watched as the server chucked the tea bags in a pot and swished some hot water around for 5 seconds then poured out this foul liquid masquerading as tea. All in all this place needs updating and the staff need retraining on how to cook and in customer service. Sorry to be rude but I would not recommend this place at all it was awful

All I can say is you need to go!! Value for your money, so tasty had the cod chips and mushy peas . Soooo! Yummy😋. Had specially wrapped as was going way out of the town still hot on arrival. I was served an inedible fish here this evening,didn't find out till 10 miles down the road on my way to Ludlow, if you are not local do not buy any food from this chippy.

What a find! After visiting Powis Castle we decided to visit nearby Welshpool to get a bite to eat and came across this just around the corner from Morrisons. Brilliant value fish and chips a lot cheaper than similar places in England and very tasty too. Shall definitely revisit when next in Welshpool a lovely little town and a great chippy.

Popped in on spec for a bite to eat. Very welcoming staff. Fish was cooked fresh and covered in a very light tasty batter. Nice mug of tea to finish off meal before we head home. Thank you for looking after us.

Local but haven't used for years but fancied fish and chip two chippies in town one overpriced and rated so tried silver fish surprised restaurant has been done out really nice had two fish and one chips curry sauce only £13 it was lovely fish was wow will definitely use again eat in restaurant another visit had the roe best I have had two were biggest perfectly cooked price quality excellent fish chips again lovely

The price is alright but really that’s all about it that’s great. Fish is extremely greasy as you cut into it the grease oozes out. Chips are alright but once again greasy.

Cracking curry rice and chips after a lobg drive

On holiday from Essex so not a frequent visitor. Fish and chips were so tasty, very reasonable price and excellent portions!

Great fish and chip shop, have visited a few times and the staff are always friendly. Price is very reasonable, but be aware this place is cash only, which is probably it's only downside.

We had fish and chips tonight from silver fish and it was absolutely rubbish, the fish must have been a month old and the batter was thicker although that was hard, the chips needed cooking for longer and half were just chippings. I have used this chip shop for a few years now being a local resident but I will have to give it a miss in future. Absolute rubbish.

We have been coming here for many years and have never had a bad dinner here, quality chips and a large mixed kebab for him and chicken pie and chips for me. Nice clean and tidy place to eat in, quick service with hot food, very good value for money in our opinion. We haven't been for a while due to the situation the UK is in but made it today and its the same excellent chip shop that its always been.

Food tasted ok but was unwell for 3 days after. Floor covered in grease and a toilet that was about as clean as an Iraqi bomb shelter. Not going back

Value for money this place can not be beaten. Family owned for decades and not a lot has changed. Very honest food, sometimes it can be a little greasy depending on what time you go possibly not helped by the volume of food going through the fryers. Jumbo Saussge can't be beaten, large portion of chips would feed 5, kebabs are fantastic and the chicken strips would smash any KFC out the park. Best place in town for a good belly full of food!!

Just visited Silver Fish, really good value for money. Food was really tasty, and large portions. Only negative is that it is cash only, I would of preferred to have card payment.

Double, large cod and chips ... 2 x curry sauce ... 2 x mushy peas ... all for less than £13. Good portion sizes ... batter a little soggy ... curry sauce was good ... mushy peas ok - nothing special. Service was quick and polite.

Good sized portions, 3 x fish and chips was plenty for 4 adults and a 2 year old. Good prices, let down by the batter on the fish which was soggy, thick & chewy, it was more akin to yorkshire pudding on fish. Cash only no plastic, but there is an HSBC ATM about 50 metres away.

Had haddock and chips, fat oozed out of the batter on the fish and the chips weren't good, very few whole chips just slithers of potato which were passed off as chips. Won't call in here again.

Excellent service. Freshly cooked while I waited. I ordered fish and chips but there was a varied menu. Social distancing is in place you entered through one door leaving through another. Didn't have to wait long only one customer in front of me. Given choice of salt and vinegar. Sauce was available if required. Soft drinks available. Staff wore masks and gloves. Will definitely be visiting silver fish again. Popped in on Monday evening. Think they are not open all day as they previously had been prior to the virus. Check with silver fish before you visit. Enjoy your food from silver fish I look forward to eating in while shopping again when we are off lockdown. Enjoy people

The best fish and chips I know of

Great food, I'm a big fan. Good, well cooked fish and the chips are done perfectly! The only downside is that it's so filling, and the servings are huge! It's great food though, would recommend if in the Welshpool area.

We always come when we visit Welshpool. Great value and tasty chips. You can eat in and take away. lots of choice on the menu.

omg !!!went in at lunchtime food horrendous place dirty , sticky tables fish unedible chips cold, staff that just dont want to be there, waste of money.

From 11am to 5pm the staff are friendly, After that youll be served by a teenage girl who looks she hates life and has a sh*tty attitude. I noticed she tried to give me a few quid less that what I should have, when I brought it up she reluctantly went to the till and got what remained and literally threw it on the counter and went about serving me. The food ranges sometimes from okay to amazing. Depends on who's cooking at the time. I find the best time to go is around 3pm to 4pm.

Fantastic family run chippy. Great value for money.will definatley be calling again on our trips through Welshpool.

Visited my cousin in Newtown 3 years back, came back for the Fish n Chips as was good then drove from Bristol to Southportand thought we'd do a mid wales trip to go back to Silver Fish,.. What a disappointment the Fish was disgusting, batter was uncooked and fish was cold, now traveling could not return..chips were alrightso overall I'd have yo say would never return

Food was good. We sat in. Toilets however were another matter. Cleanliness needs attention.

We discovered this eaterie on trip advisor and decided to give it a go. We both ordered fish and chips and my partner had mushy peas with his. Both of us enjoyed our food and should we find ourselves in Welshpool again, we will be returning here for food
