I regularly visit Symposium in Ellon and with restrictions from covid-19 we get a take away for now. All the staff are so friendly. We always get greeted on arrival and if busy they say they will be with us shortly. It has a great atmosphere and the white chocolate is delicious. I recommend it to my friends and they have come back agreeing it is a great place. I look forward to my visit each week and seeing Mandy and and her team. Keep up the good work.

Boyfriend and I went here for coffee and pancakes Thursday 12th December 2019.Place was half empty and dirty dishes still on several tables. Not a hello or good morning from the member of staff behind the till.. just straight to what can I get for you. Ordered a coffee, cappuccino and two pancakes one with butter and one with syrup. To be told by a different member of staff that there was only one pancake left. I took that and cancelled the other one. Paid £7.15, we sat down. Our drinks came and my boyfriends pancake. He asked for a warm one. It was near cold. My coffee on the other hand... in a glass? With no handle either..Totally wrong as I couldn’t even pick it up it was to hot, while I waited for that to cool town I was looking around just with my eyes and looking at the menu.. I started to realised I had been overcharged. It was only 70p over charged but 70p nonetheless. (Staff weren’t going about that much to ask) I phoned the cafe later that day to not get a reply. While we sat drinking our coffee I noticed that more pancakes were made.. so I couldn’t get one but some other gentleman could get one 5 minutes after I had sat down? Ok. As we were leaving we got a thank you.. better late than never with their manners.

Relaxing atmosphere, good food and good coffee. Friendly staff. Dreadful music. Lack of traditional food, eg. breakfast, bacon rolls. Soup usually good. Sometimes staff are working solo and at busy times this is unfair.

A fimriend and I visted very recently when it was fairly quiet. No queues or busy lines. Not one member of staff said hello or even "just be a second". We stood at the counter for 5 mins feeling awkward and silent. Took a seat thinking it was maybe table service. Nope. Still no one came over or spoke a word to us. Just off putting and a bit rude really.

Symposium coffee is always quite strong but has a good taste. There is usually a good selection of cakes and pancakes. With light lunches as well. Service is always friendly and good.

I wanted some lunch before going on a walk round the town and looked at various places. This one is very handy, being right in the square, but it could give the impression of being a bit dark and dingy. That would be unfair, as it's cosy enough inside, even on a bitterly cold day. There are 10 two seater tables. The staff were welcoming. I ordered a baked potato which was fine. There was a steady trade of people coming and going, many of whom were obviously regular customers whose orders were known by the staff. There looked to be a good selection of cakes too.

We often pop in here for a cuppa, pancake and a chat! Today we had lunch for a change and it was superb. Delicious home made pea and ham soup served with a cheese and onion scone, yum! Follow that with great coffee and home made carrot cake and I didn’t want to go home! The girls are lovely and chatty, the standards of tidiness and cleanliness seem very high and although unfortunately the cafe is in the shady side of the square the welcome is warm.

Enjoyed some good coffee and indulgent pancakes at Symposium in Ellon, it is situated in a small square off one of the main streets. Sales are cash only and you order at the counter.

Right next to where we stayed this little cafe was calling out for us to get coffee and cake. The cake offering was very good with lots of choice and the same with the drinks. Both were delicious - however, the service was so slow due to there being one member of staff trying to manage everything with a queue forming outside and orders coming in on an app. There needs to be more people helping.

Went in for a quick take away ice cream for me and the kids. There were 2 young girls behind the counter. 1 person was paying for their sit down meal and a mum and push chair were at the ice cream. Seemed to be struggling with Apple Pay and took an age to serve the ice cream. The other staffer was making coffees. A queue started forming and the mum left. Unfortunately I was ignored and the person who just walked on got served. I walked out and got served instantly next door. Not the first time happened in there. I won’t be back

Stayed here for just 1 night while exploring Balmoral and the local area. Room was lovely with a stunning view over the Loch. Even had time to try the golf which was a nice little course. Found the owners to be nice and friendly. Would stay here again.

Was having a family Christmas lunch there were 4 adults and 2 children, we were welcomed in,all proper procedures were adhered to, server asked about allergies before we ordered great but went down hill fast from there 3 of the adults had carvery we were asked what meats we wanted 2 wanted all 3 1 wanted gammon and turkey that was all we were asked. When the meal came she did not know what was on plate.Potatoes, vegetables etc were already on plate not in dishes to take what you wanted (as we were not asked what we wanted) the food was not even look warm and there were very full plates went back, it was not even asked when the server saw the full plates if there was a problem, as this was a Christmas family lunch and £60 we were very disappointed and would think twice about visiting again.
