The Broadstraik inn in Aberdeenshire

Soup and sandwich couldn’t really go wrong, mmmm both soups were lukewarm warm, my San which brown bread was hard in parts, panini my friend had was lukewarm warm not much of it had been properly toasted. We should have put back but we didn’t. The tomato soup was delicious just a pity not that warm. My friend pea and ham was tasty also but Luke warm. Shame really as my first experience on the new opening was amazing. Would I return, probably, hopefully it was a one off.

I ordered a traditional sirloin of beef roast dinner and my wife had scampi My plate of food arrived on what I would call a fish plate piled high with food with a steak knife holding down a large Yorkshire pudding , I removed the Yorkshire which was cold to reveal the beef was a small steak which was not carved joint it had been seared on a griddle however the steak was very tender ,and was strangely garnished with pigs in blankets and oatmeal stuffing with roast potatoes broccoli and parsnips all covered in a rich gravy it was good honest food and cooking but oh dear presented properly on a larger plate would have much more enjoyable, my wife enjoyed her scampi we were made welcome and the staff pleasant

The staff are lovely, Alexis in particular. I've been here a couple of times for lunch/drinks, always been a good experience and nice food. I hope this gets passed on to Alexis!

Hands down the best roast I've had in Aberdeen/shire, the sea bass and steak fajitas where epic! service was fantastic - the refurb is gorgeous! Cannot recommend enough!

Went a Monday evening with family to celebrate a birthday, nice and quiet with great food and great service. Even the dogs got a snack and seemed to enjoy their evening

Myself and my family went here for my mum's birthday. Can not fault the food, portions were a great size and good value for money. Upon seating, we were provided fresh water for the dogs. Wait staff even treated our dogs to a treat once we had finished our mains. Staff took my mum's birthday cake out without being prompted - shame my mum had just nipped outside for a minute 😂 Thank you all!

The food was very tasty and great quality however the service wasn’t very good. If you’re going to charge food and drinks in this bracket you need a good service to match. For a table of 8 we waited around 40 mins for food and table was never cleared. Other tables were also disgruntled waiting. Such a shame as the Dutch mill has always been a go to when in town so was expecting similar experience. Have heard the same thoughts from other locals also. Will try again though in the hope service improves (especially with busy festive season round the corner) as food was good.

£6.40 for a can of irn-bru and a 330ml bottle of water...what is that all about?? it's an absolute joke, daylight robbery. how can you even justify that price?? it's disgusting you should be ashamed of yourself!

Brilliant meal for four people at the Broadie in Westhill. This was our first visit since the refurb and the place looks amazing. The service from the moment we arrived, to placing our order and receiving our food, was brilliant. The food was superb and the price was on point, excellent quality and value for money. Great to see all members of the team doing an incredible job, which is a reflection of the management team who are hands on with all aspects of the service. Great experience and we are already looking forward to visiting again soon.

Lovely surroundings, friend staff and good food

Staff nice. Was busy at lunchtime but emptied by 2:30 approx. My mum felt the place was cold for her temperature wise. Food was good. Not cheap but standard prices for this kind of place.

We had heard it had been recently taken over by the Dutch Mill. We went and had the best meal we have had out. The Fish and Chips were beautiful and the Beef Stroganoff very yummy too. My little boy had a burger, all plates clean and the deserts were beautiful. We will most def8nitely be back, i cant fault it at all.

Last minute decision to go out for some food. The service was first class. The food was really good. Didn’t need to wait long to be served it didn’t feel rushed. The cheesecake of the day maple toffee and walnut was to die for. Highly recommend this restaurant nice surroundings and atmosphere

First visit, was impressed on arrival. Greeted by member of staff, Hazel who attended to us and made us feel welcome. She was also attentive, pleasant and happy. Food was excellent, service great. Would go back.

Ate there one night too and food was excellent. Well done and congratulations to the new owners (The Dutch Mill I believe)! Highly recommended.

After a few false dawn's, the Broadie is back to it's best. The clientele has improved too.

Sunday lunch with all the family. Very good food and service. Delighted to see the Broadstraik has been renovated well and is professionally managed.

Had a nice meal with my family on Saturday. Was a bit noisy in the bar, but because the euros football was on, expected that. The food was nice, chicken goujons a bit overdone but edible. Wasn’t too keen on the dogs being allowed in bar, but they were well behaved.

I have been to the Broadstraik many times since it has been refurbished. They have done a fantastic job. I do agree with others that the bar area can be very noisy but you can now book the snug which is slightly quieter. With regards to the food. Every main course I have really enjoyed but i honestly can’t say that about the starters. They just aren’t great. The pate is different every time I have had it and I have never really enjoyed it. The pate from the local supermarket is nicer. The prawn cocktail is okay, the bruschetta is hit or a miss. The haggis bonbons nice but you only get 3. Although this will not stop me going back for food it does make me wonder if I will continue ordering a starter knowing they are not really up to much.

The staff were lovely and very helpful with strange things we asked them to do. I have already recommended several people. Will definitely be back 😀

Went here for lunch, as was recommended by a friend. Nice interior, and had recently been refurbished, I believe. We sat in the sung, as directed, then had to wait 20 mins for our drink order to be taken. We ordered food, I ordered steak and Guinness pie. When it arrived, it was cold. It was edible, but certainly wasn't hot. We were in a rush, and as we had been waiting for quite a while at this point, I just ate it and we left.

Went to the Broadstraik Inn for lunch with friends. Unfortunately my drink was served in a “chipped” glass. Not a good start. The food was O.K. But the vegetables (carrots and peas) were undercooked. Chose the apple crumble and custard for desert. The waitress told me to be careful because the dish was very hot which it was. Unfortunately the apple crumble was not. It was only “look warm” Fortunately the custard which was serviced separately was very hot so it helped make the apple crumble seem hot. Overall experience was that although the staff were very friendly and efficient and the food quite good it was a “wee” bit overpriced for the portions served out.

Met friends here for Sunday lunch and we all enjoyed our meals. Tasty chilli con carne, burger, sea bass and chicken goujons were all good. Got busier later but plenty staff available. Apple crumble was good but small portions. The double macchiato was disappointing but I enjoyed my glass of Camden Town!

Not long been refurbished and under new management. Food is good, but as in most restaurants, it always depends on the chef on duty.

There for a drink with my brother in law. I only ha a non-alcoholic beer as I was driving. No problem.

We visited as a family.Parents and Grandparents for our son/grandsons second birthday. The service was amazing . The food was excellent. To cap it all the wee man was given a small cake and candle. Thank you for making his day so special.

We had lunch here today for a Family Birthday. The staff were so friendly, the food was great and so was the service. My Husband was especially delighted with the Stornoway Burger, and the kids loved their food too. Family friendly. Would recommend.

Please don’t go if u want a romantic night. It’s more like being at Archibald Simpsons but triple the price!!!! No music, just everyone talking and mean some shouting as they want to hear there voice above others , Thought would try as a few venues on doorstep , but cheapest wine £25 wine , is like £7 at supermarket!!!! Understand they got to make a profit for refurbishment. But if they made prices reasonable , but take a way makes more for prophet, but would be proper cliental!!!

Good Food, good service. Lovely place

Food very good staff very helpful. However, the noise was unbearable. Such a shame because everything else was great. Unfortunately, I don't know what can be done about the racket I do hope this can be sorted.

We were for a family dinner on a Friday evening, service was good - the right level of attentive. The food was good - especially the desserts. There was certainly a retro feel to some of the options - gammon steak (excellent) and beef stroganof (good if a tad on the salty side). The cheesecake and the brownies were all delicious. We live close by so are delighted to have this venue open again, it was sorely needing the refurbishment and the new owners have done a fantastic job.

Nicely updated venue, but for me the food was average, I had the Stornaway &pork burger, presentation not good, a dry bun, one leave of lettuce one slice of tomato no sauce, no cheese, there was a side thimble of I think pepper sauce, no coleslaw, just a burger & chips, the burger it’s self was dry, the chips were the frozen type, I think that to have obviously spent good money on refurbishment, it’s a shame that the food doesn’t in anyway reflect the surroundings. And for that reason I probably wouldn’t recommend

Lovely meal and atmosphere, was very busy

I’ve been looking forward to this for months. I used to frequent the Dutch Mill when I worked in Aberdeen. I’m over from Abu Dhabi visiting family and my mum booked a table for a group of us. My Stornaway Burger when it eventually arrived some 90 minutes after ordering was lovely. The onion rings were unfortunately soggy and under cooked. To finish off we were asked to leave as another party were waiting, never mind the long wait and lousy service we received.

Refurbished building is lovely. Bar area was packed with younger drinkers. Food similar to canteen quality. Staff friendly but despondant. Whatever is going on in the kitchen is not working. Took over an hour for food to arrive, slightly cold and very average. This restaurant will either get better or close, it won’t continue like this. If it’s still open in six months give it a go.

First visit since it reopened and was busy for a week day lunch so thought always a good sign. Service was fine, menu is ok, portions are tiny for the price. The kids portions same size as adults. We order onion rings at nearly £4 s portion i was expecting home cooked onion rings not horrible frozen ones not even cooked properly. Processed crap! We had the burgers, came missing items returned with no apology, then when food appeared again item added wasn’t even cooked properly, still raw, and now the rest if my food was cold. Return again, however by this point the rest of the table had finished their meal. Again no apology when my Plate was set back down to find now burn food, clearly just thrown everything from my Plate back on the cooker burger black, when it has been perfectly cooked, chips rock hard.. by this point we couldn’t be bothered . Kids meal was processed, horrible cheap scampi, with that horrible fishy smell… They did take one burger it off the bill, but seriously felt like i was punished for their mistake. Wont be darkening door again any time soon, such a shame used to be amazing

This place is great. There is a daily pie, and curry option. What more do you want? Plus the rest of the menu has a great selection. Only thing I would change, is the starters need some stuffed garlic mushrooms. 😋

Excellent Food, Excellent Service by Ethan but it was very noisy although, to be fair, it was a busy lunchtime. Noise could definitely be off putting to some customers.

Sunday Lunchtime was very busy the place was maybe about 75% capacity all the staff were certainly very busy and although we waited about 30 minutes for the meal it was explained that everything was made freshly from scratch no microwaving. The meal (steak for me fish for the wife) was excellent very tasty and everything did taste fresh, the staff were polite helpful and articulate, I'll certainly go back.

Great service and food. Great staff. Very, very noisy, though and I could stand it anymore. I have a decibel app on my phone and it was hitting 90dB, hearing protection required. It was a Saturday night, and they fitted us in at short notice. Deffo would go back but earlier in the evening.

Best burgers we have had in years, and the desert was out of this world, staff so friendly and so helpful. defo go back there.

What a disappointment, our first visit since the extensive furbishment. On entry the building is bleak, characterless and unwelcoming. The bar is a vast empty space with unfriendly staff and no "warmth" to encourage you to stay on a cold January lunchtime. Such a shame it could have been so much more.

Sunday night dinner in lounge with dad . Second visit to Broadie and again was more more than pleased with service , food , surroundings etc Dad had the home made steak pie with real chunks of beef , perfect he said and he is hard to please at 99. I tried the Broadie burgers main and wow that’s quality steak burgers and would say best I’ve had in 64 years . All round great to see the 120 year old establishment fully restored to high quality fit out and working well . Excellent. Alan

Todays lunch ‘Mince Pie’ perfect a real fav so clean plates all round however, a pie surely needs to be baked in a PIE DISH?

Excellent service and food, I was very impressed when one of the meals was not quite right, the Manager was Brilliant straight over and offered a different meal, dealt with the situation friendly and profesional. We visited the Broadstraik inn on the 06.01.24 for some food our table was booked for 16.30 and we were seated by then,we ordered our 4 drinks which came fairly quick,and then ordered our starters and main meals at the same time 1 Prawn Cocktail 1 Chicken Caesar Salad 1 Soup Of The Moment 1 Haggis Bon Bon And for our main meals 1 Pie of the Day 1 Beef Stroganoff 1 Seabass 1 Mixed Fajitas Which were all very good and we really couldn’t fault anything with the food or the service it was really nice to see the restaurant area running to a full a full capacity would we visit again most definitely thank you for a wonderful experience well done 👍👌

We went to the Broadstraik with friends being our first visit since it reopened with high hopes. The interior is lovely and has all the makings of it to be a great place for good pub grub. 2 of us ordered the chilli con carne which said on the menu came with rice. We were both surprised instead that what was served was a large dollop of chilli with chips on the side, no rice. Grated cheddar cheese was on top which had melted and made the chilli really greasy. There were no other accompaniments like sour cream, guacamole or tortilla chips. It all seemed very basic and as one of our group said like school dinners. The service was slow and a waitress took away plates of some of those who had finished eating while others were still eating which was a bit off putting. None of the staff checked to see if we were enjoying our meal. Please Broadstraik make some changes and up your game. Really would like to see the venue flourish but needs to do better. Wouldn’t rush back

Taking in the New Year at the recently refurbished Broadstraik was so good. Food was excellent , staff were brilliant could not do enough for you , the atmosphere was just what you wanted to bring in 2024. Yes the Broadstraik is back in more ways than one, well done Finlay and your staff for a great night.

Hello, I was in yesterday with my son and fiancé for a meal. It was the first time we had been in since you had reopened. I have been going to "The Broadstraik" since I was a little girl and I have seen all the changes. Even when there was just the little bar at the front of the building on the left-hand side as you walk into the building. ( I was a very, very little 😉🤣) To say you have done the place justice is an understatement. The time money and care you have breathed back into the building does not go unnoticed. I stay out in Tarland now and word of mouth is everything. My friends are organising Christmas nights out with you and we will be coming back. So congratulations and keep up the hard work. I am very happy with the reopened and revamped Broadstraik Inn Bar / restaurant. The service was very good. The food was very good . The prices was very good to. Looking forward to going back. Went thro to the bar area after our meal very nice and modern.

Everything excellent just really noisy maybe could do with some plants to absorb the noise.

My friends took me here to celebrate in style Another birthday to age me even more..must remember to keep much more calm. The meal was delicious...the service too... Venezuelan waitress made us feel at home too.

We came here for dinner on Sunday afternoon. The food was absolutely amazing. I would recommend the Strathdon Chicken which was cooked to perfection. The missus had the Roast Beef and she said it was so freshly made and tasty. We will definitely come back...

Lovely warm and friendly pub and restaurant. Lunch was great, service very good and food excellent. The new owners have done a great job with the place. Going again next week.

Not a family friendly bar, far from it - would not recommend. Being a local I was hoping for a better experience but every aspect was worse than i could imagine. Don’t order the bangers and mash, you’ll thank me later!
