Been here a few times now and always found the staff to be Very friendly and accommodating. Same thing when we visited on Thursday 1st August. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely family feel pub with a great atmosphere. Food was great as usual and plates were nearly overflowing. You wont leave hungry once you’ve made a visit to this lovely village pub.

Enjoyed a great evening with friends. Delicious food at reasonable prices, good beer and wine, excellent hospitality and service from Kathryn. Highly recommend. Will be back for sure and also for Sunday lunch

Attended as a party of 13 for my granddaughter 18th birthday. The pub was busy but the owner and staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was beautiful and plenty of it. Lovely village pub with a good atmosphere and happy feel about it and this is down to the owners and staff. Highly recommend a visit.

We booked the sycamore for a family meal of 14 which I will say was very well organised. All our meals arrived hot and together, everyone enjoyed the meal. The young wautresss were good as was which appeared to be the owner . As a family we would all recommend this pub and we will definitely return soon . Reasonably priced too Keep up the good work .

We enjoyed a fabulous meal here today for an early Father’s Day celebration. Kathryn and Mark were exceptional hosts and the food was delicious. We were looking for a traditional country pub and found this online so thought we’d give it a try. And we’re so glad we did! Would highly recommend. Thanks to Kathryn and Mark for looking after us so well. We look forward to our return for steak night.

Very welcoming. Cheerful and helpful staff. Good food, and very hearty portions. Really good value. We didn't book, and discovered we'd arrived on their "Steak Night". It was clearly a popular night, because a lot of the tables were reserved, but they found space for us. The bit of effort it takes to find The Sycamore Tree is worth it.

A warm welcome and great service. The gluten free member of our party was delighted with the more extensive menu than other restaurants in the locality. Special care was taken regarding his allergies. Food was beautifully cooked. We shall be returning!

Wow, yet again an outstanding meal at The Sycamore Tree. Always such a warm welcome from the kind staff. The menu is varied with lots of options on the Specials board too. Being a Vegetarian, I always have such lovely meals here. Though today, I fancied trying their new Juicy marble vegan steak. Nothing was too much trouble when pre-booking. I have to say, it was even better than I had anticipated. What a treat. The quality of the food is like no other. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his Chicken dish and said it was cooked to an excellent standard. A clean, relaxed, cozy pub with such a lovely atmosphere. Situated in the most beautiful little village. We will continue to come back here over anywhere else, as nowhere else compares. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. It will always be my absolute favourite. Thank you Mark and team, as always. Finally I just wanted to say how we really missed seeing Mike’s friendly face today. We wish him a speedy recovery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back again soon.

What a gem of a place! We visited here for my daughter’s birthday and it really was a lovely evening. Great staff, excellent varied menu with lots of choice and a large gluten free section if required. All 5 of us enjoyed a really delicious meal and lovely drinks. What a lovely, friendly pub in a gorgeous little village! We were viewing a house in the area and decided to test out the local perks - one being this lovely little pub and the local farm shop. We weren’t really familiar with the area so having such a warm welcome and friendly chat with the owners really helped us decide to put an offer in. The food was delicious - not that we were able to enjoy too much of it as we were both a bit stressed while we patiently waited for news!! Thankfully our offer was accepted not long after we left and we’re so excited to be moving to the area (all being well!!). We are very much looking forward to having a new little local that clearly puts the community at the heart of what they do. Thank you ☺️

Thank you for an excellent evening celebrating my mum's 70th birthday. The restaurant (private room at no extra cost for a large group) was absolutely perfect. Our group was made up of 8 children & 10 adults. We added a few balloons and decorations and the room was ideal. The food was very, very tasty. Every person within the group was pleased with their starters and mains, which were both generous and delicious. I would highly recommend. Thank you very much.

We visited for Thursday Steak Night. It's been quite a while since we last went to this lovely pub and yet again, it did not disappoint! Friendly staff, perfect Steak and good service. The chips were a little over cooked but that didn't spoil it. The onion rings were delicious! Unfortunately didn't have room for desert!

Haven't visited this pub in years. It was my birthday so my son suggested this restaurant for 10 of us. Oh my gosh, it was amazing. Food was fantastic and so much of it. Not overpriced either. Excellent portion sizes, delicious food. Do not eat before visiting, or you won't be able to finish the food on your plate. Staff were wonderful, friendly, attentive and so lovely. I would 100% recommend this restaurant. A wonderful evening was had by all. Thank you x

Booked a table for our Anniversary only to be told via an email that the table had to be cancelled due to a glitch in the booking system. Good job I checked my emails before leaving, otherwise my family and I would have had a very embarrassing trip.

Really have nothing but praise for this place, we went there for my wife’s birthday, first time we’ve been there but it won’t be the last, food was excellent and was matched by first class service and a really warm welcome, just make sure you go there with empty stomach because you certainly get a lot for your money

Table of 11 ate Sunday lunch today and it did not disappoint. We'd pre booked our meals and they got it spot on. Food was hot and really lovely. Starters, mains and desserts were enjoyed. Just wanted to let everybody know how amazing this place is. We as a family have had food here numerous times and we are so impressed, first it’s dog friendly which is very rare, but also the food here is unbelievably good with plenty of choice, even plenty of choice for a vegetarian. Nothing is too much trouble for all the staff, our recent meal we pre booked the Christmas 3 course menu, OMG ! The food was so good all home made and a generous helping, it definitely got us in the Christmas spirit.

I was looking for a venue to organise my Dad's 80th birthday family meal for a party of 23 and the restauran looked to be a perfect size. We were able to book out the whole room and Mark was so helpful in helping us organise it. Great communication and were not made to feel a nuisance in the numerous calls to ask questions. We were able to take along a birthday cake despite this prob affecting their desert sales and even gave us plates too. The food was outstanding. A varied menu and foot was plentiful and hot! Lots of compliments from the family afterwards too! Thank you so much to Mark and Kathryn and their team for all their help and a lovely welcome! Special thanks to Kathryn for making the room look so pretty with the lights and popping up banners for us too! Despite the rest of the pub being busy as it was a Friday night nothing was too much trouble! We shall definitely be back!

Really lovely evening for myself and my husband. Amazing vegan/veggie/gluten free options. The food was really delicious and great value for money. Our waitress Kathryn couldn't do enough for us. Beautiful old school pub feel with a separate bar, lounge and restaurant. We had no room for dessert (the portions are sizable) so we took dessert home with us. A vegan billionaires tart that I'll be eating later 😋

15 of us and 2 dogs had an amazing lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday. The food and service were excellent. To find a dog friendly pub with such amazing food and service is wonderful. Vegan & vegetarian food all catered for as well. Have eaten here many times and the service and food are always super. Our thanks go to The Sycamore team!

All I can say is WOW! I was so overwhelmed to see a whole Gluten Free menu, alongside the normal menu. The food was so good, my husband and I really enjoyed our meal. I am going to give this place the shout out it deserves to all my Gluten free Buddies. Thank you to Mark Chef/Landlord and all the staff for such fabulous services. We will be back for Sunday lunch very soon, making sure I ask for their homemade Gluten free Yorkshire puddings, which they need a little notice for as made in advance. Dog friendly too. We had visited the Sycamore before- a lovely old village pub not far from Bridgend. Decided to go for our wedding anniversary and so glad we did! So many dishes to choose from, and many homemade. We had the Thursday night "steak special" which was excellent. The chips are really good. Lovely atmoshere and the staff couldn't do enough for us. They even welcome well-behaved dogs (ours came with us). Thank you all for a perfect evening.

Amazing meal - always - we come about every two weeks for steak night, fabulous steak, locally sourced from nearby Honeydew farm, chef always puts too many chips, onion rings and salad. Had Sunday lunch here today. The roast lamb dinner was excellent, but the sticky toffee pudding was one of the best. Will definitely be going back here in the near future. Also would like to mention that there is a very good variety of gluten free options.

Last year it was Covid, this year no petrol, but whatever trials and tribulations, you must visit The Sycamore Tree. As with last year our three dogs were greeted with a Bonio, and their human companions by the warmest of welcomes and superb food and attentive service. Nothing is to much trouble at The Sycamore Tree. If you are in the area, you must, must get there to dine. But make sure to leave plenty of room, the servings are expansive, and every dish a delight.

The Sycamore is the perfect pub if you like great food at good prices, a really warm welcome and, very important for us, somewhere we can take our two dogs where they are made to feel as welcome as we are! Try the Thursday steak night- big steaks with all the trimmings and wine at a great price. We always enjoy our visits to the Sycamore - it's our favourite by a mile!

I visited the Sycamore Tree with my wife and baby. We were given a warm welcome by all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble in helping with the high chair and making us and the baby comfortable. The food was also excellent and very good value. We will definitely be returning.

We have been here a few times and never disappointed. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The tables are always thoroughly cleaned in-between diners. Enormous portions and very good value for money especially the ice cream that was lovely and I had 3 scoops which was only £3. I am a wheelchair user and found it very accessible. Best Covid compliant eating place we have ever visited - extremely dog friendly which is important to us as our dog is so much part of our family (they even have treats for them). After some long time in the dreaded lockdown, it was such a relief to visit this very welcoming country pub. The new landlords, (August 2018), have had little good fortune during all the Covid disruptions, but have battled on, adapting their operating model to adjust to whatever the Welsh Government has asked for. We were drawn to their Steak Night option, 2 steaks plus a bottle of house wine for £36, and were well satisfied. The care the pub has taken to keep their patrons safe is evident from the moment you walk through the door. The service is quick and simple, and we both felt at ease and glad we had made the effort to get back out again!

We called on a whim on our way home after searching for somewhere to eat for a while, we stumbled upon this place through trip advisor. We were greeted with a warm welcome, given comfortable seating and there was a cozy atmosphere. The drinks menu was really varied and the special cocktail was both strong and delicious. The gluten free menu was absolutely huge and contained several items that usually contain gluten, I was spoiled for choice. Everything was delicious too with huge servings. If we were local, we would definitely visit here regularly. A gem of a place, highly recommended.

Researched a lot into where to go for food around our area that we hadn't tried before. We were not disappointed at all. Had an extremely friendly welcome, the staff appeared happy and very keen to accommodate us. The pub/restaurant all very well prepared for (the dreaded) Covid guidelines and restrictions.Food was AMAZING! Very generous portions but we still couldn't refuse dessert after the first two courses. Looking forward to returning to try other dishes on the menu.

We’ve used the sycamore many times during lock down for delivery. Every time the food has been great. The pies, burgers, kids meals and vegetarian options have all gone down brilliant with the family. Nice staff and always on time.

Just had the steak deal - Two superb sirloin steaks and a bottle of vino . Steak , one rare and one medium ,cooked to perfection and the trimmings just right . Golden chips and onion rings . Couldn't fault the service and well on top of the covid-19 requirements . Fish deal on Fridays - think we will try that next friday !!

Sycamore Tree in the lovely village of Colwinston is a fantastic village pub. Friendly staff and good menu. In these strange times they have really made an effort to make your visit Covid safe so you can visit in confidence. Highly recommended. If you’re locked down in the Vale of Glamorgan then give it a go, great walking area as well.

With three dogs we were looking for somewhere that was dog friendly and originally thought that the outside heated marquee would be ideal, but on contacting Mark, he assured us we could easily be accommodated inside. This little gem is not so little with ample space for tables and dogs. The Sycamore Tree treat Covid very seriously and have put in very well thought through safety measures, so everyone is comfortable and safe. The dogs were settled with a Bonio from behind the bar (thanks waggy tails). We had the soup which was superb, and followed this with a curry each, all well cooked fresh, packed with flavour and with ample portions. We did not have the steak, but the Thursday steak deal, sounded outstanding value, and certainly worth investigating if you dine here.The Sycamore Tree will definitely be on the list for a visit when we are next in Wales.

First visit here and was not disappointed, Covid info was explained which was easy to follow. Three of us ordered different meals and they were all beautiful, freshly cooked and plenty of it. Sian was very busy making everyone safe and welcome. Will be back once restrictions allow.

Came here on Thursday for steak night and we were not disappointed. The pub is truly embracing the Covid-19 regulations with clear directions, sanitisers, socially distanced tables and they have even converted their car park into a marquee seating area (again socially distanced).We were greeted by a welcoming gentleman who sat us outside for our drinks whilst our table was being deep cleaned. Once inside we tucked into our starters of pate and creamy mushrooms which were delicious. We then had our 10oz Sirloins - medium rare. They were cooked to perfection and accompanied by wonderful crispy chips, garlic mushrooms, cherry vine tomatoes and home made battered onion rings (they were huge too!). We also ordered sides of (more) onion rings and cheesy garlic bread. Everything was delicious, the steaks are local (from Llantwit Major) and great quality and, they were cooked perfectly, though the onion rings were definitely a step too far quantity wise :) It was great though because we were able to take our leftovers home with us to enjoy. Thanks so much to everyone at the Sycamore Tree for a great night with great food. We are looking forward to coming back. Highly recommended.

As this was our first visit to the Sycamore not sure what to expect, esp in these time's, But had Great Service, Track and Trace info was taken straight away and shown the procedures for the facilities. The Meal was Fantastic and I have got to say Again the Staff were Very Helpful. Most Definitely coming Back.

We were party of 8 so seated in marquee, loads of space around tables and well planned one way system. Staff were well trained and efficient. Nice pub grub. Felt very covid safe.

Just come back from a lovely meal with husband and daughter. All our meals were delicious. Lasagne with garlic bread and a fresh salad. Huge fish and chips and gammon. Followed by summer pavlova stack and churros. All the food was well cooked and well presented. Service was friendly and efficient. This was our first family outing since March. The tables are well spaced out with simple signage to produce a one way system. The outing felt relaxed and safe.

Visited on Friday evening. Food was amazing ( jerk chicken burger, beef madras). Excellent service and every attention to detail paid to make sure guests were safe with visible cleaning protocols and one way systems. Wouldn’t hesitate to return and recommend to anyone a little nervous venturing out in these strange times. Felt totally safe and had a great meal.

We booked a table a few weeks ago based on a review in the local paper and were looking forward to our meals, we weren't disappointed in fact it surpassed expectations. We had a drink in the bar before going to our table when the food was almost ready, the bar area was nice to relax in and have a chat. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was cooked to order and we all enjoyed the various selections we had ordered, I had sea bass which was very tasty followed by an amazing apple crumble. I can't wait to go back to try some of the other items on the menu. I think it's a good idea to book as there are limited tables as this is a quaint country pub.

The restaurant kindly fitted us in last minute for an early dinner.We ordered two mushroom soup to start followed by a red pepper and goats cheese tart and a salmon, mash and grilled asparagus. The soup and bread were delicious. The salmon was supposed to be served with a white wine and cockle sauce but this didn’t appeal to me so I asked for the salmon without it. I was offered an alternative plain white wine sauce or a garlic butter but I didn’t feel this went well with salmon so declined the offer.The mains arrived and mine was a small portion of fish sat on a spoonful of potato with 3 asparagus spears draped across the top. My husband’s tart was not as expected visually but he enjoyed it. It was served with some saute new potatoes and a salad.We were still hungry so ordered a bread and butter pudding and an apple crumble, both with custard.Everything was okay, nothing to really inspire but just okay.We used to eat here frequently as the good homemade pub grub was always delicious.Sadly I think the attempt at aiming towards fine dining has missed its mark as the cooking isn’t quite as en pointe as it could be. I know I didn’t want a sauce but my salmon was overcooked and the plate was screaming out for a proper portion of vegetables. I didn’t mention this as it was edible. We both ate supper tonight too which is ridiculous feeling hungry after a 3 course dinner and we cleared our plates on every course.The staff were lovely though and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off trying here. All 11 of us enjoyed our lunch and the desserts were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the churros - the best I've had outside of Spain.

I was lucky enough to win a competition on my local Radio Station, 106.3 Bridge FM to have a 3 course Sunday lunch for 2 at the Sycamore Tree. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The pub is all you'd come to expect from a lovely village pub, beautifully decorated, low ceilings and doorways, just perfect. Good selection of beers and at very reasonable prices. We had 3 courses from the Sunday menu and I must say it was fantastic. Everything was piping hot. So often you fine out and not all your food is hot enough. Not here, beautifully cooked, tasty, hot, well presented food. I had the garlic mushrooms to start, beef dinner with extra cauliflower cheese and apple crumble and Ice cream for dessert. My partner had paté, beef dinner and chocolate brownie. Superb. We checked out the main evening menu as well and it looks very inviting. We will definitely be back. Thanks.

Visited the sycamore tree last night for my sisters 20th birthday - there was 15 of us for food! The service was excellent and the food was even better! everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the chilli was one of the best i have ever had out, same goes for the cajun/beef burger, everyone commented on how amazing it was. would highly recommend this place. i cant wait to try it for sunday lunch :)

We won a competition to have a free 3 course meal here and visited today! Omg what a hidden gem it is!The place is in a beautiful location and the food was absolutely stunning..we felt so guilty that the 3 courses were free.. it was worth more than the price on the menu! It is such a cosy,clean and welcoming pub and the staff were amazing! We took our 1 year old son and he enjoyed it too :) We cant wait to re visit! Highly reccomend to all!!!!!

Having not been here since the new owners took over we decided to give our favourite place a try and I was so happy we did. New owners and staff very welcoming and friendly which always is a bonus. Menu has a good choice on the list so had plenty to choose from. When the food arrived it tasted amazing, proper fresh home cooked food. The portion size was just right as well. If anyone is looking for proper home cooked food then this is the place to try. I will definitely be returning.

What can be said... Utter brilliance! The staff, the food, everything! I had the 8oz burger, and one of, if not THE nicest burger I've ever eaten. Chips are crispy and full of flavour, I could go on praising how good this place is. All I'm saying is "I'll be BACK!".
