This cafe was so lovely! From the beautiful decor to the fab service, me and my mum were so impressed! We were both served quickly- we had toasties and a hot drink each, which tasted delicious, and the plates that the food was served on had a lovely flowery design. Also, the toilets were clean and nicely decorated.

Fabulous little place, lovely clean crisp look, with little bits of chintzy china. I had the avocado on toast with eggs and salmon - it was terrific, perfectly poached eggs, fresh zingy salad, crisp sourdough toast. Wonderful with a perfectly made large flat white. The cakes look divine, but I was just a bit too stuffed to indulge. Next time, as I will be back.

Lovely little hidden cafe in Chelmsford - worth a visit. Big menu from light bites, to larger meals, from breakfast options to salad options, great selection of coffees & homemade bakes. Lovely little garden area too for warmer days! Have visited a couple of times and will definitely return.

A little oasis in the town, this lovely little place is a gem. The decor is a delight, the staff are so friendly and helpful. Food is plentiful, well priced and so tasty! Definitely try the lovely cakes. Everyone should visit. It was a lovely day so we sat in the little walled garden at the back in the sunshine.

The cakes and service are amazing at the Sweet Pea Cafe. There's always such a variety in the cakes, some with lots and lots of tasty buttercream and toppings which I personally love but on the flipside if you want to opt for a more healthy option the vegan breakfast or smoothies are also amazing. And they also have a vast menu of sandwiches and toasties for those looking for lunch. The tea room itself is light and airy and this coupled with the use of delicate china to serve the tea and food on as well as the friendly staff make it a really lovely place to go.

Visited here this week with or granddaughter. This cafe is bright, clean and cheerfully decorated. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. We all had a breakfast which was lovely and not at all greasy as can sometimes be the case. Have been here before for afternoon tea and it couldn’t be faulted. Will always visit here when in Chelmsford.

Sweet Pea is our favourite cafe in Chelmsford, we drop on all the time. This time I took my parents for lunch and it was as nice as ever. The ladies who run the place make their own cakes and they're different every few days. We didn't have room after a round of toasties, salad and soup (with a whole mini baguette) so we took some home. The mint aero was delicious but the lemon cupcakes are divine. You get a very generous portion size on everything and everything is fresh. Try the black forest hot chocolate if you're going to go!

The eggs are fresh, the bacon crispy, just a hint of herbs ;the tea is clear and the coffee strong. I would say this is a hidden gem and I’d love it to stay that way , a good but quiet atmosphere and attentive but not overwhelming service…. But I also want Sweet pea cafe to get the business it really deserves. Sooooo a stunning five well deserved stars!

I recently booked a afternoon tea at this cafe for my friend’s birthday I have been to this cafe before it was lovely with a choice of cupcakes sandwiches salad and crisps with a choice of tea or coffee all for £40 that was when you could book it but now you walk in for afternoon tea which you get 1 round of sandwiches a slice of cake and a scone of plain or fruit with cream and jam all for £40 this in my opinion has gone down hill I felt ripped off there was no effort made and I won’t be going there again which is a shame

I am intolerant to wheat and dairy so finding a cream tea is challenging to say the least. Sweet Pea took that challenge and I had an amazing cream tea for my birthday. I went with my family and they also had a cream tea. What amazed me was that my cream tea looked no different to theirs. For anyone that is GF or dairy intolerant or both you will know that this is really unusual. The cream tea was plentiful (so much so that I couldn't eat for the rest of the day), pretty and very lovely. I really enjoyed it and didn't have any repercussions at all. It wasn't hugely expensive either and the staff were lovely. Thank you Sweet Pea

I visited the cafe with 3 friends for their Christmas afternoon tea. It did not disappoint! The home-made cakes were delicious as were the sandwiches. I asked for hot chocolate as I don't drink tea or coffee - I often get charged a supplement for this in cafes but not at Sweet Pea which made a pleasant change. The table was laid beautifully with lovely crockery and Christmas crackers. Our drinks order was taken promotly then we didn't have to wait very long for our food and drinks to arrive. I was relieved to see that this place turned into another independent tea room after Buschall & Flynn's closed - they're certainly a bit thin on the ground in Chelmsford. I was also pleased to see that the place was reasonably busy when I went in there, despite being away from the High Street. I enjoyed my cream tea - it was very filling, and very nicely presented. I particularly appreciated that they served the jam and clotted cream in pots, rather than giving you individual portion bottles of jam and tubs of cream, to minimise waste (though they still gave what I thought was an excessive amount of cream). The scones weren't the best I've ever eaten, and my table showed signs of the previous occupants, but I did arrive just after the lunch rush, so I was just glad to get a table. I hope this new venture goes well!
