The staff are amazing and the food is cooked to order and arrives steaming hot. I had the best jerk chicken and rice meal and of course the turkey starter dish is so good. I can't fault Sweet handz they are amazing. It is super good value and the fried red bream yummy. on entering one will find themselves in what looks like a small restaurant and bar. There is more seating upstairs and also a small outside area. The staff are friendly and the customers vary from those who treat it as a café, some as a restaurant and some as a bar. I have eaten Gizzard with plantain, Pounded yam and okra soup with assorted meats.. and a new one for me- Face the wall. a big bowl of warming stew with a starch. The menu's a mix of African and Nigerian and also Caribbean and the food is superb. Parking is available outside for free in the evenings

Went there with my partner for a quick bite. We were greeted by wonderful staff in a lovely warm atmosphere and went upstairs to sit. We ordered traditional Ghanaian beers and had quite a feast! Tsofi, Fried yam and kelewele to start, with yummy red pepper and shito to die for! For mains I had waakye which is the Ghanaians rice and peas and probably one of my most favourite things to eat!Theirs did not fail me and delivered on flavour when paired with meat stew and Gari foto. I do think it could have included a few more pieces of meat; mine only had 4.She had jollof rice with chicken and we both loved the flavour. As I write this, we have decided to go there this evening for round two! Lastly and most importantly, the staff were very nice and attentive, friendly and give a nice cool vibe. I'd definitely recommend anyone to try out the yummy food at Sweet Handz!

OMG the food, I have been craving it since out visit on Sunday. I can't wait to go back as soon as possible. The peanut stew was so good. It was all good, served piping hot and fresh I can't fault it. I had this turkey starter, it was yum I was the envy of my fellow diners. I did reluctantly share :( I wish lived closer I would certainly do a let less cooking.

Staff were nice in all fairness, but food was very underwhelming. The kelewele was found to extremely soft and oily by some of us. As for the mains, one member of the group had banku and tilapia which was nice enough. The rice used for the jollof looked like brown rice and the stew that accompanied it had a strong tomato purée and onion taste; it only had three small pieces of very firm meat mixed in.I am not very fussy eater, but decided not to eat my main as a result of the above. It would have been nice to have been offered an alternative dish but I very much got the vibe of "we can't do anything about the fact that you don't like it".I paid for my meal and left; sadly,I wouldn't go back there again.

First of all the lady who served us was lovely and very attentive, new to Ghanaian food she explained the menu well and was very helpful. Me and my friend chose to share 2 plates, one been jollof with stew chicken and the other curried goat with rice n peas. I'm a big fan of Carribean food and I have to say this stew chicken is 100% the best I've tried. The chicken fell off the bone and jollof was seasoned perfectly.I'm relatively new to London and so happy to of found this place, the prices are definitely fair and I'm already looking forward to coming back and eating again... Before I visited sweet handz I indeed did check online to see the reviews of the restaurant. The majority being very positive which is great and some negative. I never allow the opinions or experiences of others to determine anything. I came with an open mind and heart & my gosh did I enjoy it! The atmosphere was so welcoming from the moment I walked in. I came to dine with my friends, some that have never had Ghanaian food before and they were greatly satisfied! The service was great too, A nice run family business. The staff was able to recommend amazing starters and main courses for my guest and cocktails to accompany with some traditional Ghanaian beers and soft drinks. I'd recommend this place to people who are looking to have authentic Ghanaian food! Go there with a open mind and heart with no expectations. Peace love & light x

I took my 2 sons for a customary Ghanaian meal on their birthdays and googled for a restaurant nearby. The menu options was rather massive and confusing and it became obvious that it has been widened to include West Indian cousine which was fair enough, but it made it rather confusing with complex combinations or set menus. The food we ordered itself (jollof rice and "watche", which is rice and beans, and bean stew), was rather bland, lacking the "oomph" you would expect of the typical Ghanaian preparation. None of the mouth watering spices was evident. I almost cried! The service itself was average, and confused pricing meant you ended up spending over £12 per head for a decent meal combination. Surely, they can take a hint from an Indian restaurant or Chinese setup. What about a Ghanaian buffet?

Didn't know what to expect, other reviews seemed mixed. Decided to give this place a try for a lunch deal. Both my friend and I were happy with the decision. Upon arrival I assume I met the owner, she was very friendly and helped my friend, who has never had African cusine, with his choices. The food tasted great, we were served quickly and thanks to the lunch deal it was a great price too. It's difficult to find authentic African cuisine, so I'm definitely keeping this place in mind next time I may be in the area. I encourage people to give it a try with an open mind.

I visited this place for a lunchtime takeaway a couple of times (more fool me); most recently today (06/08/15). Never ever again! The young woman who was serving; her sour attitude could make milk curdle! She was miserable in her manner, no conversation, no customer etiquette nor eye contact. She scraped the remnants of a pot into my takeaway container. When I asked what she'd put in, she showed attitude. I know now that I should've examined the contents there and then...well we live and learn. On opening the container back at my office, the rice was extremely dry, not an ounce of moisture in it; like it had been sitting around in the open, under dry heat for ages. Despite it brown colourful appearance, the rice had very little flavour, the peas were hard outside and powdery inside, and it was difficult to swallow without sauce for lubrication. The meat was the most unpalatable I've ever eaten, and I'm not exaggerating, promise!; huge chunks carelessly chopped into boulders, hard to cut, and smothered in a thick, lumpy, acid-reflux-inducing tomato type sauce. They also charge £1 for the tiniest pot of coleslaw imaginable. I ate a couple of spoonful's and called it a day. Its really disheartening to know that a restaurant can get away with serving such poor quality food and having such bad attitude. Shocking! I assure you, this is not how Caribbean/African food should taste. I don't make a habit of writing reviews, but wanted to save at least one person their hard earn cash. You have been warned!

I have always found the service at Sweethandz to be warm and inviting. The staff have an excellent knowledge of African cuisine which further enhances the dining experience. There are often regular customers downstairs at the bar engaging in conversations about current affairs and football. The food brings back memories of my travels to the continent. I highly recommend the tilapia fish with stew and jollof rice; I imagine if you visit once it will soon become one of your favorite places for a night out as well. ...Alicia London ;)

I first visited this restaurant in 2013 and the food was absolutely lovely well cooked and this service was great but baring in mind this is three years ago, I decided to go again on the 04/07/2015 thinking that it would have actually upgraded but I was totally wrong. Funny enough I had brought a family member and was actually very embarrassed. We ordered £74 worth of food just for the fact that we was so excited about catching up with our traditional food. The starters which was kelewele, tshofi, prawns and suya was fine. Now for our mains we ordered red red with fried tilapia which was soaked in oil and was nowhere near crispy, the red red was clumped together and dry, my Jellof rice was loaded with the strong flavor of onion and dry, the stew that came with it was basically tomato puree, the salad was cut up lettuce and cucumber with a dollop of salad cream on the side. The food also took 40min to come out baring in mind the lady told us to order everything together so that it would flow when coming out. I will not be coming back to this restaurant and to top it off it was a waste of £74. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Went with a few friends and noticed a smell, we carried on ordering via the rude waitress who was acting like she couldn't be bothered to take our order. By the time the food came we had already been given the fake red wine. And as we attempted to eat our starter the kebabs (seasoned meat on screwers) we realised not only was the meat un chewable (uncooked) but that the smell we originally smelled was the meat they had used for these kebabs which was deffo off! We complained to the waitress and she took one look at the meat that we had to spit out and that was still raw inside and just said "yer" all of a sudden she pretended she didn't understand or speak English when were explaining as she quickly cleared the plate away. No Atmosphere, the mains took forever to come even though there was no one else in the restaurant. As an African I would me et go back to this restaurant and that's saying something!! Waste of money on a deal and you have to pay extra for the decent dishes.

The menu has just about the right variety of local dishes, and despite the waiter mixing up my order with my friend's, the food was tasty, carefully cooked and delicious as always. Make sure you order the Kele Wele starter: classic!!The ambiance is modest and clean and the restaurant offers a take away and delivery service (occasionally). If you a looking for a venue with a local feel, and a touch of Ghanaian (that includes laid back waiters!) then you've found your right spot. I was amazed with the time in witch the food came out and how nice and clean the resturant was. The staff and the service was wounderful and very friendly. My friend and I had a delightful evening at Sweet Handz. The restaurant is cosy with a warm and welcoming ambience, as is the venue name. The Manager, Rebecca also known as "Aunty" and her staff make you feel at home all the way through. The atmosphere is sweet and homely reminiscent of Ghana with the lovely African music playing in the background, adding to the scene. The restaurant is upstairs small, cosy and clean with comfortable seating/tables, a high ceiling and nicely decorated. We enjoyed the food immensely and were able to choose anything on the menu (starter and main each), with a voucher deal which included a complimentary glass of wine. You can also use a Tastecard here with a 241 deal (Mon-Thurs). We really enjoyed the local cuisine and friendly charm and felt a world away from the Holloway Road. We were treated so well, it made the evening for us and we will certainly be returning bringing some more friends. We came to the restaurant in a voucher deal that we thought was too good to be true. It was! They charged additional cost for food that was actually part of a dish. For example, they charged for meat and plantain in the red red dish. This was obviously a way of trying to recoup money but meant that they did not honour the voucher and were also dishonest. They will lose custom because of this as I had planned to bring a large group but I won't be returning. Being tricked and paying more than you should leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Avoid!
