What a hidden treasure, we found ourselves needing a place to eat and came across this pub when using the cars satnav. Very nice food and staff to match. They interacted with the kids and helped us choose the best for them.

menu might have well have been a brakes brothers catalogue, all bought in, processed, reheated and slapped on a plate...drinks are 3expensive and the place looks like it was last decorated in 1979...

Our first time here for a delicious carvery with great choice of vegetables. Spacious venue yet cosy with traditional Devon pub restaurant feel. So perfect for gatherings or more intimate dining. Helpful, friendly staff. We'll be back! 😋

Used as a. meeting place for cousins who had never met before some 40 of in all. We had a terrific day and were given a large room to discuss our Ancestry, shake hands and have hugs. Also a good area to use a projector and to display photos. One of our group described our ancestors journeys from Egypt of some 10,00 years ago to our much more traceable ones here iin the UK back from the 1,500's. We have already booked to be back next year.

Love this place, always seems quieter that it deserves to be. Lovely staff, beers and carvery was great, usually have a burger but thought I'd change it. Stayed in the carpark in campervan.

Food prices are extortionate, a small flat piece of chicken a few well cooked chips and peas, £16.50. Fish and chips, a small piece of fish £16.00. Service not very good, waitress took order but got it wrong.

Carvery was alright, nothing special but decent overall

Poor service, poor food. Add a little seasoning, leave things in oven a bit longer and you'll be good . £7 for dry dessert and tasteless ice cream is a bit much too.

we went a couple of years ago and it was lovely. Last night the food was terrible. We had the carvery which was dry and tasteless. And I don’t understand why some of the veg was curried. My granddaughter had chicken nuggets (4) and a handful of chips for £8.50 which was a total rip off. The food was over priced and awful. Won’t be going back

3 out of 4 meals were good, but the 4th wasn't. However this was deducted from the bill when I complained.

Popped in Saturday afternoon for some food I had the beef brisket lasagne & my Husband had the Thai curry. Food was lovely & Staff were friendly too. Going to return & try the carvery!

Sorry to say but was very disappointed.i ordered a prawn salad with Marie rose sauce . There was no tomato no cucumber about a tablespoon of prawns and swimming in the sauce .Hubby had lasagne and enjoyed it . For pud I had Italian gateau nice but quite small for the price

Excellent meal last night. Carvery was really good, with choice of meats - all very good quality. Range of vegetables and option available to go back for more if wanted. Very friendly and helpful staff. Chef provided extra snacks (pork scratching) for our table. Can highly recommend as great venue with excellent food and lots of free car parking.

Very dark inside and a bit of a musty smell. Some of our group had the Carvery. Not a pleasant experience for them. Meat was stringy and chewy and veg had seen better days. As an upside I had the fish goujon sandwich which was actuality very tasty but then it was a posh fish finger sandwich and you can't really get those too wrong. Unfortunately won't be visiting again.

Four of us had lunch here. The menu was good and the food was excellent. It is also a dog friendly pub/restaurant.

A decent place, really nice staff. We went for Sunday roast, which wasn't anything special...decent price for decent food. 1 x meaty carvery and 1 x veggie carvery, 2 x desserts @ £7 each and 2 x drinks for £45. Lots of larger tables in so does a good trade. Would recommend for those on a budget, those not wanting airs snd graces and just wanting a regular meal. Keep going chaps.

Went for a Carvery there first time in years. Food was disappointing roast potatoes looked warmed up after being over cooked, other potatoes not cooked properly, the stuffing looked steamed or not cooked in the oven at all? If I was honest the whole meal was luke warm.

I remember that the Swans nest used to serve good food. But not now. Sunday roast was pretty flavourless. Lasagna was a dried up, small piece of probably extra microwaved pasta. 'Local sausages on mash' were very bland. Compared to the bistro in Totnes serving 3 fantastic local sausages on mash for around the same price, this was not good. Nothing could be described as succulent or very tasty. A pint of cola is also extremely expensive here, close to what a cider costs. I and my family won't be coming again.

It's a really nice relaxing country pub. The food was amazing. the service was second to none.

Excellent service for large group on a Saturday afternoon. Young staff competently took large drinks order and the food orders, which came out of kitchen in timely fashion. Food was excellent.

This was a lovely country pub, with lovely food & very friendly staff. Rolo the dog is friendly & adorable with a proper little smile! The atmosphere is peaceful & the place is surrounded by beautiful wetland habitats, so we saw some fabulous bird life too. The meal was really tasty & the portions are generous. After our meal, we were able to order drinks & chat with family with no pressure to leave. This was one of the nicest pubs I've been to in a very long time. Thank you to all of the staff for making us feel so welcome, it was worth the trip down.

Only had a drink and crisp, slow to get service initially but were quick and friendly afterwards.

The man was serving was abrupt, the food was rubbish,worst meal I ever had,no atmosphere and the place stinks of dogs, never would I go there again 😮

Went to Swans Nest for Sunday lunch, the girl thought we were a party of 3, but that was the time we booked for, my partner said no, it should be table for two, then she thought it was table 25, but it was table 23, no problem though, my partner asked for a few drinks of beer, but the girl had no idea what he was saying, so he went up with her to the bar himself, we had beef as it looked lovely, but it was very fatty, roasters lovely, gravy watery, parsnips were okay, very dry though, Yorkshire pudding okay, swede not much taste, will probably go back, so went to pay at the bar, my partner showed his credit card but the girl ignored him completely, and went to the back to bring more bottle out, again the girl completely ignored him, and she walked passed us for the 2nd time, we were ignored by the young girl behind the bar, so we looked around and saw two staff and they took the bill and we paid, however, we will go in the evenings, as my partner said when he took his parents on a week day for lunch, he said the food was much better, but we will never on a Sunday again.

Our first visit absolutely beautiful decorated for Christmas. Excellent service carvery about to close but still plenty of food.Has a little play area. Very friendly dog called Roly. would highly recommend

Arrived 12.30. It was fairly quiet. Waited a long time to be seated. Drinks ordered,we waited for so long, that we had to chase them up and to order food. Meat was tasty and plentiful, but the vegetables were so very dry,as if they had been out for hours. Disappointing.😒

Tuesday evening .The Carvery looked nice but the roast spuds and parsnip were dried out very tough to cut and chew. We wondered if was left over from the weekend . I wont be going there again.

Never been to this pub before but what a surprise. Really good atmosphere, delicious food and plenty of it. The staff, all of them were polite, friendly and helpful. I don't live close to it but would love to return. Several of our group have been before and said it was always like this. So top marks to the owner\manager they are on top of their game. Well done.

Absolutely stunning Pub/Restaurant the staff are all lovely and down to earth. The food is exceptional the atmosphere is warm and homely they had the fire on which was sooo nice 🥰 they are great with my little girl and went above and beyond for us. Best place for a roast in exeter by far and the price is reasonable.

Wow! This place is great! Amazing roast! Generous portions of meat, choice of meats and beautifully cooked spuds with perfect selection of veg. We eat out fairly regularly and this is the only place that offer a fruit salad on their sweet menu and it was a huge portion! So refreshing! Friendly staff and our waiter was brilliant! Made sure we were happy, was polite and courteous. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be regular customers from now on. Thanks Swans Nest 👍 See you soon 😊

Run down old relic. Grubby and faded. Would not recommend sadly. Very highly priced too.... Dining area smells of stale cigarette smoke...!!! 🙄 Yuk

Catered to our needs very well when it came to our 4 year old who wanted something not on the childrens menu (but I daren't pay for an adult size). They were more than happy to accommodate this request, which made for a happy start to the evening. The waitress was great, and food was delicious. Most of us opted for carvery, those who didnt tboroughly enjoyed their meals. I'd forgotten about this place for many years, and I'm glad I came across it again. Thank you for having us 🙂

The decor is a little tired and the food, while perfectly palletable, far from exceptional. Rather large a lacking character. Service good and friendly.

The setting was lovely and staff were ever so friendly. I had beef and gammon which was delicious and so many vegetables. I personally like my potatoes crispy and well done but they were not here. This is a case of preference for me though. They tasted healthy which for some I guess would be good I just prefer mine really crispy cooked in oil. Overall a lovely place.

Popped in here after a few long hours spent in Marsh Barton. Was looking forward to the carvery but we just missed it. It was very quiet as it was their in between time but food was still being served. We opted for 2 carvery baguettes and 2 red Thai curries. All were absolutely delicious. Service was good and food well priced. Will be back again to try the roast!

Great traditional carvery, very very impressed. You can even go back for seconds on the veg. I didn’t need to as it filler me up

Really poor service, had to ask for menus and then for our order to be taken. Drinks came very slowly, and were mixed up. Table only half cleared after we'd finished eating with one plate still there after we left. Waited so long for the bill we eventually went up to the bar to pay. Wasn't busy enough to explain the very poor service. Food was OK, typical carvery.

Food was absolutely fantastic and very friendly service, we used the car park to stay the night after dinner (with authorisation from staff) and the setting was lovely. Would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back again!!

The food was really good here. Fresh hot and delicious. Good veggie options as well. The dessert I has was good too served with both pouring cream and clotted (on request).

The Carvery is good. But choice of vegetables seems to have been reduced. Not the cheapest. But I suppose they have increased costs. Being dog friendly is a plus. Customers with dog sit in a different area to keep others happy

Had lunch here today with 7 friends, meal was brilliant, great choices and as my friend is a small eater the child’s portion was offered for the ham, egg & chips which looked delicious. I had the pie of the day and it was cooked to order and tasted amazing. Will be back again and would recommend

What a hidden Gem. Had a cracking dinner. The carvery was top notch. Way better than Toby carvery and other big chain carvery restaurants. Service was great. Excellent pub!!

Had a great Friday Carvery, not so good Sunday Carvery lunch. Just be careful with the sliced potatoes, they were slightly under done.

Terrible meal. Steak burger just your bog standard burger from the wholesalers, not a high quality burger it suggests and misleads the staff - even our server admitted it wasn’t what it described. Chips and onion rings swimming in oil. Staff messing about behind the counter and eating deserts off the tray with their hands - no gloves or PPE worn and messing around behind the counter and behaving in an extremely unprofessional way. Staff willingly slagging table off within earshot. Manager won’t accept that a frozen burger from wholesaler shouldn’t be described as a steak burger. Won’t be returning.

Really amazing food 10/10. But they've GOT to sort out the carpets and give the place a clean.

Just had a beautiful meal and the staff were some of the best I have ever met. People who grumble about a fair price want something for nothing and forget how much everything costs now. Thank you for a pleasant evening.

Stopped here for a break before driving home. A lovely welcome. Good food choices, nicely cooked and hot. A couple of nice ciders on tap. Sat outside with a nice outlook over the fields - could hear the trains but unfortunately not see them

5* Visited and I had the beef burger (added cheese, bacon and a hash brown of course!) it was delicious and lots of it! The chips were some of the best I’ve had too!

Proceed with caution, and have money to burn. If anyone thinks this food is good, they need their head examined and have clearly never eaten in a decent restaurant. Think airplane food - it's edible, but is it nice?? No Very surprised to see good ratings, I suspect they are regulars being offered freebies for their feedback.

Great pub stop over soft play & outdoor climbing frame kept the grandchildren occupied as well as lovely carvery..& lovely friendly staff will return..

We are locals but have never eaten here before today. Sorry to say that the food was not up to scratch for the price of it, based on today's visit, we won't be back and won't recommend to anyone. The food came out quickly and we were expecting it to be to a good standard, so were disappointed. The carvery is £14.95, and was not worth that whatsoever; had it been £8.95, I wouldn't have grumbled so much as my expectations would have been lower. Despite someone elses comment saying the meat was dry, the meat was nice, and so was the staff member serving it. The stuffing was awful, like tasteless porridge, stodgy and sloppy. The parsnips seemed to have been dry roasted with no oil or seasoning and were hard. The taste of all the elements on the plate was very bland, it was like a roast someone's nan cooked. The fish and chips were ok, but the fish was ever so slightly undercooked, and the nuggets kids meal was disappointing because we lost half of it on the floor - every time my daughter stabbed a fork in, the rock hard nuggets flew onto the floor, would have been ok, but the chips were like the scraps you get at the end of the night in a fish and chip shop. No one came to ask if the meal was OK either. We were hungry so ate what we could. All of this combined left us feeling pretty ripped off to be honest. Lower the prices, or improve the food.

Found this place by chance, so decided to pop in for some lunch. Food was absolutely fantastic, I had Thai red chicken curry, my wife had scampi and chips, and a friend we were with had chicken nuggets and onion rings. I did well as my wife doesn't eat many chips, so had most of hers, and several of our friends onion rings. Portions were good and prices were reasonable. The restaurant was oldie worldie with dark beams and furniture and had a very nice atmosphere. The only minor gripe was the background music which was a bit loud, could have done with being about half of the volume, so 3☆ for that, but 5☆ for everything else. Music was also great 80's. tunes. Service was also excellent and well attended. So, all in all highly recommend this Pub/restaurant, we will be back.

It's out of Exeter in Exminster, ideal for events has a large seating capacity. Serves good food from the carvery.

I believe new staff are here now very welcoming food is as good as ever short on cake selection when we went but I'm sure they where just selling out !

8 of us had a very nice carvery with deserts, all was excellent.

Went for a birthday meal, I think they were overwhelmed by the numbers, I had a rump steak but the chips were not cooked enough the steak was so tough I took the meal back myself (never done this before) and the waiter forgot to give me the money back and started serving someone else while I waited at the bar. We had waited a long time for the meal,a lot of people were disappointed with the meal and it was the main topic of conversation. The cavery got better reviews, Other than that the pub was nice, the staff were nice but forgetful. They seemed unprepared the layout for the meal didn't make sense we couldn't converse. Wouldn't use them for a function but maybe a pint if passing.

Best pub I've been in. This place has a lovely atmosphere very friendly staff and as we where walking out of the pub an older couple said the food was amazing. We look forward to walking back here and to have a meal.
