I throughly enjoyed our visit the food was excellent as well as the service A couple of pints of Whitstable ale went down very nice unfortunately we live 200 miles away so we won’t be going on a regular basis but when we’re back visiting we will definitely go again

Great place for meeting friends

One of the best pubs to be in Ashford. We felt so comfortable and well taken care of. There is customer parking available. I would love to go here again.

Recommend the Hogs & Mash & a bottle of Merlot. No need to book. Just turn up & enjoy. Staff are friendly & there's plenty of room inside & out. Give it a go. Updated 07/08/2024. Hogs & mash still on menu but a few things have been scrubbed off which is a shame. Found chips under our table & on the seat when we sat down to eat. Nice country pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Good portion sizes.

Big pub with a large garden. Very busy. Slow service. Food expensive. £19.50 for chicken fajitas. Which were average. Plenty there but not very tasty. Nice interior. Clean toilets. Average pub but food overpriced.

Good value pint, recently (?) renovated but SN have packed seats into every square inch of the garden and building so zero privacy. Good welcome from staff.

Beef burger lovely, didn't have the sauce, and the chips were rustic and tasty. Onion rings too much batter and oily, no onion. Not like the old days. Service polite .

This used to be my go to place when I was taking people out for a nice dinner, however I was told that it had gone downhill lately, not one to believe other people I went and had a look for myself last night. When I made the booking the evening before nobody thought to mention to me that when we got there I was going to be told that they didn't have over three quarters of the menu and that basically all they could offer us was a burger. The lady behind the counter was very nice and friendly and she also seemed extremely embarrassed about the situation, however this didn't help me out much as we had driven over 30 miles to get there. Unfortunately I won't be going back here again.

Sorry guys, dropped the ball massively. A quiet Saturday night (half full) and we ordered to be told that there was no plaice , so changed to duck, no duck and then after the third change they came back and told us sorry one of the starters wasn't available and what is this new thing these days where wine is just brought and dumped on the table, what happened to tasting or pouring. If it was cheap I'd forgive it all and suk it up, but it wasn't 5

Great pub with really nice helpful staff

Had a table at half 2 didn’t get food until 5 pm. Didn’t get seated for half hour meaning our 100 year old Nan was waiting in the car. Kids were coming for lunch ended up having dinner instead starving and upset. Free mother drinks as advertised didn’t bizarrely start until the next day nor did we get any money off or compensation for waiting so long. Really disappointed and would have been okay if there was some acknowledgment or compensation for the inconvenience. ( the elderly members and young kids ) staff were friends though and clearly felt awkard about the head offices false advertisement of the free gin for the mums on mothers stay, bad form !

The Swan and Dog in Great Chart is a gem. Staff are super friendly, the food is tasty and well-priced, and it's got a lovely laid-back vibe. If you're looking for a quiet pint and a bite to eat after a walk, it's the perfect spot – definitely beats the bustle of Singleton Barn (Which is still a good pub too)

Probably one of the worst meals I have had in a long time , roast dinner , meat was so tough carrot and swede mash was puréed Yorkshire pudding was awful , then came the dessert choc and raspberry tart very bitter , none of us were impressed will not be eating there again

British Pub with lovely food and atmosphere, friedly for animals as well, really enjoy. They've got gluten free and vegetarian menu. A little bit cold inside and the menu is overpriced unfortunately but not that bad.

This is the 5th time we have been in the swan and dog and every time we visit, everyone is so friendly and inviting, food is amazing and we highly recommend coming in for a nice meal or a social drink, thanks Jo👍👍👍

Quiet, and a good place to meet up with a party of friends. Staff were great. Food was mixed, fantastic cooked food but questionable sandwiches.

The Swan and Dog is a pub come eatery offering a selection of well kept, well priced, Shapherd Neame beers and ales plus a wide (perhaps too wide) selection of pub style food. Really good in the summer with a large, comfortable outside space to savour the food and drinks.

Had a fantastic meal here recently with a friend. The menu was varied, fairly priced and portions were of generous size. I had the sea bass which was delicious. The waitress poppy was very attentive, polite and couldn't do more for us. Will definitely return in 2024

Christmas day lunch has been wonderful here today... First of all the food, staff and atmosphere were all perfect and secondly the amazing responses to all my questions, changes in people and orders and other things that came up were just so quick and considerately done. The whole team made a stressful Christmas so much better for us.

First time coming here after hearing really good things. The food was delicious, good portions and well presented. The atmosphere was lovely; nicely decorated, clean and cosy. The service was a bit slow and was awhile until we ordered food but the staff were kind and friendly and I think it was only a bit slow due to being a few days before Christmas and quite busy. I look forward to going back to try other things off their menu. Highly recommend.

To be sharing 1 star is very upsetting, we have been coming here for a number of years but tonight’s meal and service was utter appalling. The food was dry and felt like it had been under a heat lamp for a long period of time and the comments made by the waiter were appalling and very unprofessional. When a waitress asks the waiter “who is the drink for” you expect a response of “the gentleman in the middle”….::what I didn’t expect was “the ginger one”! I don’t know the type of people this company employees but I suggest the re do their education and learn how to conduct themselves in a professional environment . The most annoying part was we had already paid the bill and left a £30 service charge and the drinks were purchased separately, when the comment was made. I will not be returning and neither will any of our party! I suggest you send your staff to a workshop to gain some manners and people skills.

Unfortunately the pie we ordered was cold and had to be sent back but otherwise we enjoyed the meal.

This pub/restaurant has a nice atmosphere but it was very cold inside, we all had to wear our winter coats at the dinner table. One food order, chicken, was clearly over cooked and very dry. Asked for another one which came, but was not cooked inside, it was actually still raw in the middle. My daughter is 7 months pregnant and if she had not cut it in half, this could have been very dangerous. The other meal, chilli con carne was pathetic, hardly any meat and the rice was full of cheese, they had obviously run out of rice and it looked disgusting. The drinks and deserts were fine. We were never asked if our meal was okay, as you usually get asked halfway through but overall the staff were friendly. Obviously I refused to pay for the chicken and chilli. I will never go to this pub again, probably the worst food I’ve encountered in 10+ years. They need to get a grip of the kitchen staff. Just check your food before you indulge. Very disappointing!!

Excellent staff and super quick service there was one let down starter of calamari was over cooked but the nice juicy steaks all made up for it did find the menu bit hard to read could be made out a bit clearer lovely pub all in all really nice

A great restaurant with a good menu selection. The food is amazing and well presented. Good range of drinks too. Can get busy and it's recommended to book, particularly for the evenings. Nice outdoor seating area, perfect for the warmer days. Free parking in the car park around the back.

Lovely pub, but the food I had was pretty inedible, I had duck with soy and it was so salty , it was like I had emptied the salt pot into my mouth, awful. Such a shame.

Great food. Great roast dinner. New favourite for Sunday roast in Ashford.

Passing through en route to the rugby. Wonderful evening meal. Staff went above and beyond. They were friendly and accommodating. Thoroughly recommend and would definitely return if in the area again.

You can't go wrong with the duck fajitas! The fish and chips weren't bad.

Great pub and atmosphere but the food is not consistent across the board. We had a big table for celebrating and it was a mix of great looking fajitas, overcooked pizza, and undercooked pork belly s. The pork belly had no crackling at all, sat on mashed potato swimming in far too much very watery gravy and overcooked red cabbage. All in all very disappointed. Drinks were good and the atmosphere is nice.

A lovely pub in a picturesque spot. The staff were charming and chatty. We arrived around 4:30 Sunday afternoon. Ordered two Nut Roasts to go with our drinks. Food was really lovely. Wonderfully cooked and presented. A very lucky find. We will be back :)

Avoid!! Went here for a roast dinner and a couple of children’s meals. Ordered a roast beef and was shocked when it arrived, there was 1 potato cut into 3 and half a carrot and half a parsnip & then some leak! I have never before finished a roast dinner when we go out, but I was still hungry afterwards & had a packet of crisps! The beef was ok, was quite fatty and very finely sliced and you only get 2 pieces, for £19 you expect more! I ordered my children the sausage and mash and pizza. The sausage and mash arrived, the sausage was ok and the mash was literally like glue, stuck together and lumpy! My daughter loves mash and wouldn’t touch it. The pizza ended up being the top half of a baguette with cheese and slices of tomato on it- for £7 😐 I have no words! The toilets, don’t get me started on this, they were disgusting. There was pee all over the toilet, on the lid, seat and floor, it was disgusting, and it was the only toilet working, so I had no choice but to clean it before my daughter used it. There are lots of staff behind the bar and in the restaurant area, the manager spends a lot of time walking around talking to people, when they should actually be checking these areas to make sure they are in good condition for their customers. I 100% would not recommend this place!

The food was excellent, we were sitting by the bar area as we had our little dog with us. We still received table service and were treated professionally with a smile. My son had a burger while I had the cod with potatoes brava. We also shared a portion of Vietnamese chicken wings. I really enjoyed our food. Looking forward to go back to the Swan and Dog.

Food was not great had pork belly and it was just uncooked fat. Service was average but nice looking pub with a good feel. Nice for a drink and maybe a snack.

Relaxed atmosphere, excellent service and superstars staff!

Pun a with an ideal location, beer garden and areas of privacy. The food was easy to order and it came out at a good temperature to start eating with burning your self or having to complain to the manager it’s not warm enough. It was not busy when I arrived but the staff reasonably happy to assist when they are available. I would call this a country pub. There sis a car park at the rear but you can park to park in the street if you can find any space.

Friendly and comfortable atmosphere, but the value for money and service needs serious attention. The £16 burger and £19 beef roast dinner were edible and uninspiring, not at all worth their hefty price tags.

Ordered loaded nachos and a few beers after work. Very nice place to eat and nachos where 10/10 can only assume the quality reflectsthe rest of the menu. will deffo visit again.

Absolutely amazing service! Impeccable food and a great treat. Booked very late during the day and had a lovely table, the 3 members of staff who I saw were polite, friendly and helpful. Definitely be back!

Never been impressed with food on two visits. A very nice drinking pub tho.

First visit in a while - very disappointed. The chorizo cod was awful - tiny, couldn’t taste chorizo, terrible take patatas bravas and the samphire was non existent! Onion rings overcooked, nachos clearly sat under hot plate for ages even the guacamole had crusted over - undercooked rindy bacon on loaded fries and we asked for no salt on chips for our 18 month old which was clearly too much to ask. Also told there were no pizza left but as we were leaving another customer was being offered takeaway pizza! Definitely not what it was, wont be rushing back

Having to revise my 5 star review which I've stood by for years. That was until the menu change. The Swan and Dog was part of a chain of fantastic restaurants with wonderful food and exciting dishes. These restaurants were so popular they were bought outright by Shepherd Neame who stood by the original menus....until now. There is nothing remotely inspiring anymore and the whole reason to visit lost. A quick comparison of their menu with any of the local pubs will confirm. The variety has gone and whereas you could choose from around 6 different burgers, it's now beef, chicken, or plant. The staff are the same fabulous ones who have welcomed us over the years but until the menu changes significantly I will not be returning. I hope Shepherd Neame realise how badly they've dropped the ball here (and at the Old Mill and The Oak on The Green!!!)

Stopped here as I was walking in rhe local area, met by a friendly member of staff who served me a lovely cold pint and some very well cooked chips There is plenty of seating inside, however, as it was a lovely day, I sat outside in the sun and enjoyed watching the village life.. A lovely traditional English countryside pub.

Surprisingly quiet for a Sunday afternoon. When I asked for an aperol spritz the ladt looked at me like I asked for a gin and coke. Perhaps that's why. Needs to modernise and carer for the upmarket clientele of repton/gc imo.

OK food, friendly staff, a lot of dishes were not available. (One of our party had to choose five times as all her choices were not available). Will try again, hopefully just a bad day.

Not a great start, drinks order was wrong , one drink missing and one was wrong...only 5 drinks ordered, waited an hour for the main course while other tables who came in after us got served quickly, can only think that the order was put in late. When the food eventually came out it was not great, pork belly was lukewarm, mash had no mustard in it, chorizo cod was missing chorizo, seasonal vegetable side order was just a bowl a bowl of broccoli, chilli was tepid and looked reheated. Deserts were mediocre and small. For the price we expected a lot better.

How disappointing, The Roast pork was like a pork chop, no colour no crackling no taste, very small Yorkshire pudding tough as shoe leather “ maybe Aunt Bessie’s “overcooked cabbage and something else at a cost of£19.00 The Burgers (3) were hard and dry served with a handful of cheap chips. There was definitely NO quality to this meal. We’ve eaten there before but won’t be eating there again. The service was good but the food was very POOR

Went today but it seemed understaffed. Service was quite slow, waiting 45 mins for our order to be taken. Starter was great but main was really disappointing. Some of the bits were missing from the main and we asked for them but they never arrived. Ended up grabbing our own cutlery as the replacements never arrived. Disappointing unfortunately as its always been worth the visit

Having made a second visit, the first wasn't much to talk about, this time we had a family meal. The wait for our drinks order was unexceptable. The wait for the food order was unexceptable. The food itself was nice, if a very small portion for the cost. The wait for our desserts order is unexceptable. The service is less then except able. In all a very, very poor experience, and a third visit will not be happening. Plus to add almost £30 service charge is an insult. The service wasn't worth £30.

Meal booked for 6.45pm didn’t get main meal until 8.45, salads were very poor, croutons were so hard if eaten may of broken a tooth. Pork belly crackling was cold and duck fajita looked like dog food. Would never go back, even though they discounted the bill, told us 3 chefs had called in sick, wish they had told us earlier as we would have gone somewhere else. Very bad service indeed.
